Merry, Merry, Merry Moments with Nathalie Leonelli

Hello crafty friends! It’s Nathalie here today to share some pocket page inspiration using the November release items. I love the extras this month and used several favorites, like the amazing Acrylic Christmas Light Bulbs and perfect Very Merry Chipboard Stickers, to document part of December 2019 in my 9″ x 12″ family album.

Supplies | November 2020 Kit, Merry PrintablesNovember Labels, Autumn Die Cut Tabs, Very Merry Chipboard Stickers, Merry and Bright Wood VeneerDecember Wood Veneer, Acrylic Christmas TreesAcrylic Christmas Light Bulbs, Holiday Baking StampChristmas Tabs Stamp, Fa La La 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack

I added a 4″ x 12″ insert (cut from a bigger page protector) which allowed me to use the large Merry and Bright Wood Veneer front and center! It looks fabulous paired with the Acrylic Christmas Light Bulbs. I repeated this great combination of acrylic and wood veneer on my title card as well.

For both pockets, I hand stitched a garland string with black embroidery thread. I love the contrasting result! Often, while I am working with a certain color combination, I check the monthly printables to see if any tags match my page. It’s great to have extra options and in this case I found two in the Merry Printables. You do not need any special software! I just dragged and dropped the two I wanted in a Word document and sent to my printer.

I relied a lot on the Very Merry Chipboard Stickers to embellish my photos, but I also had fun with the stamps—especially the Christmas Tabs Stamp along with the packed Autumn Die Cut Tabs. I used them together in several spots selecting just the right tab color and the right word strip amongst the multitude of choices.

I hope you are having fun with your November goodies! Like me, you will love documenting your December with them, a past one, or the one starting tomorrow! Happy December and happy crafting!

Sketch Day with Daniela!

Hi friends! It’s Daniela here, sharing a new sketch-based layout. Today I want to show you how to interpret a sketch and make it your own. Sketches leave a lot of room for interpretation, but also give you an idea of what to do to fill your page. Let’s take a look at the today’s sketch:

What hit the eye first is the big square consisting of four pictures. I had one photo that I really wanted to use, so I trimmed it into a square and decided to work with one picture only instead of using four. This is how my page turned out:

Supplies | November 2020 Kit, Autumn Die Cut Tabs, Holiday Foodie Stickers, Jane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Stickers – White, Very Merry Chipboard Stickers, Dark Green Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Acrylic Christmas Trees, Acetate Stars, Fa La La 6 x 8.5 inch Paper Stack, Christmas Basics 6 x 8.5 inch Paper Stack, Christmas Tabs Stamp

There are various titles in the sketch and I wanted to add all the elements the sketch offers, so I used stickers and die-cuts from the November Kit to have tiny titles spread around my picture. The yellow Acetate Stars added a shiny element that add a special touch to the page and also builds a nice contrast to the other colors.

I also wanted to follow the sketch by adding some stamped details, so I played with the Christmas Tabs Stamp and added black lines and words to the beautiful paper from the Christmas Basics 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack. Stars are the perfect embellishments for my picture, so I added another chipboard sticker and some acrylic stars from the Acrylic Christmas Trees pack, too.

Working with black and white pictures and fresh colors, plus black ink is a great way to create a modern kind of style. I feel that Christmas-themed layouts can be fresh and modern, too. Black accents and shiny details like acetates and acrylics help to create something different. Ripped edges and different paper layers also add up to a modern and playful kind of style.

I hope you like my way of interpreting the sketch. The only big change I made was reducing the number of pictures from four to one. The rest of layout follows the sketch quite closely and I really like the way it turned out.

Thanks so much for stopping by today and have a great day!

How will you create with this sketch? Share your sketch-based project with us by posting in our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group, or on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio!

Document December 2020 Prep: Volume 3

Today is the final Saturday before December, which means this is our third and final volume of Document December preparation posts here on the blog! If you’re getting your album or project read for the upcoming week, we have four more designers here to share their tips and ideas with you! Let’s get ready to record our merriest memories, starting next week!

Meghann Andrew

This year will be different than years past, and with a newborn at home, I feel the need to simplify my Document December album to be sure that I get it finished after the holiday season. This means that I am doing a few things to be sure that I am successful: 1) organizing; 2) looking to inspiration to help me create; and 3) doing what worked before over again.

First, I organized all of my Document December 2020 supplies on the top shelf of my project cart. Everything that I will work with is neatly organized here, including the inks I will use to coordinate with the Document December products! To make it more fun, I added some twinkle lights to the cart. I can roll this over to my standing desk whenever I have a few minutes to create.

This year, I am looking through my Instagram feed and on Pinterest for ideas to help me create, and since I have had this pin saved for years, I figured it was time I use it to inspire me! I used the Large Jane numbers in solid and outline, stripes and polka dots to create a border along this large envelope that I created to fit inside my album. This will hold ephemera and Christmas cards perfectly. Get inspired by what you see online and re-create it in your own style, using what you have on hand!

I finished my 2019 album just after the holiday, and I loved the project. If it works, don’t fix it, right? So, I turned to my 2019 album to see what I could re-create in my 2020 album. This list page, showing all that I hoped to document through the month, created on the flap of the calendar page was something I wanted to carry on to this album. To make it, I simply used the list December 3 x 8 Inch Journaling Tag and the Christmas Tabs Stamp to add twelve things that I wanted to be sure that I recorded. I followed up with my own handwriting to add to the list, and I love the way it turned out.

I hope this is your most successful Document December year yet, friends!

Jess Forster

Hands up if you are EXCITED for this festive season?  I know I am! This year I am focusing on creating a long term project: a 6″ x 8″ Christmas album dedicated to recording my favourite Christmas recipes. Some of my favourite memories growing up were made in the kitchen, baking with my mom. Since we are having a quarantine Christmas, my mom and I plan to Facetime every Saturday to bake Christmas cookies together. I was so inspired by the Christmas Cookie Cardstock Stickers, I wanted to use them in a fun and meaningful way.

Like the last two years, I am organizing my supplies in a Ikea Fjalla desk organizer, which will sit on my scrap table close to my 6″ x 8″ album. I have sorted the journaling tags by colour and grouped stamps, paper, stickers, and similar items together. Since this will be an ongoing project that I work on a weekly basis, I plan to keep it all within reach. Although I may not finish the album this year, my hope is to keep recording family recipes in this album in the years to come. Sometimes documenting your December can mean doing a deep dive into a holiday activity that you love. I hope this inspires you to document your own adventures in the kitchen. Happy Holidays, crafty friends!

Tracey Fox

December is right around the corner, and even though real-time documenting of the holiday season isn’t something I do every year, this year will be so different spending more time at home and not having nearly as much on my holiday to-do list due to cancelled events. I’m looking forward to filling some of that time documenting the memories we are making at home, and the Elle’s Studio Document December kit and extras make that so much more fun!

I don’t make prep pages for my annual 8″ x 8″ album of holiday-themed layouts, but I do like to get my supplies out where I can see them and reach for them as I craft. I’m trying out a new organization system and storage tool this year – puzzle trays! I bought a set of these super shallow, white plastic trays that are meant for sorting and storing puzzle pieces for an in-progress jigsaw puzzle, and I immediately thought about how great they would be for laying out unpackaged embellishments and papers in a shallow layer so I can see and dig through them as I am putting together scrapbook pages. When I am done with a crafting session, the trays stack onto each other in a neat little cube that I can pull out whenever I sit down to scrap!

Kristina Proffitt

If you know me, you know that I am a bit of an organizer freak. I wear that badge with pride and I’m going to share with you all how I’m organizing my Document December goodies for this holiday season!

In my office I have a scrapbook table that I stand up at to scrapbook and one thing that I love to utilize are rolling carts. I love them because you can put quite a bit on them and you can roll them all around where you need them. Right now, I have two of these carts: one that I keep underneath my table and one next to it. I decided to put my Document December goodies in this plastic desk organizer from Target on the top of one of my rolling carts. I love being able to see everything that I have and it’s super easy to just roll the cart out and start grabbing all of the super cute goodies to create with.

I also love to use little bowls and organizers to hold all of the bits and pieces from the Document December kit and extras. Everything has a home and it makes it easier to use and to see what all I have. Even if you’re not crazy about organizing like me, I promise ya, if you put your goodies where you can get to them easily and you can see them, you’ll be inspired to use them and document all of those fun December stories you’ll have this month! Happy documenting, friends!

We hope these past weeks of preparation posts have helped you get a handle on organizing, preparing your pages and getting inspired for the month of documenting to come using your Document December 2020 collection! Get ready to see our team’s finished Document December pages starting next week, which we will share with you here each Saturday in December! Happy creating this month, friends!

Setting Up 2021 For Success with Jess Forster

Happy Wednesday, friends! Today officially marks one month until Christmas and soon a brand new year. With the turn of the calendar, I find that January always bring renewed energy for documenting. Today I am here to share some of my tips and tricks for scrapbooking your coming year and how to incorporate the new Elle’s Studio 2021 products into that plan.

Supplies | 2021 Calendars, Monthly Highlights 3×8 Inch Journaling Tags, Highlights From This Month 3×4 Inch Journaling Tags, Weekly Die Cut Labels, Acetate Months, Daily Tabs Stamp

1. Have a design plan in mind
From 12″ x 12″, 9″ x 12″, 6″ x 12″, 6″ x 8″, 3″ x 8″, traditional pages to traveller’s notebooks, there are so many ways to document everyday life. For the last three years I have completed a 9×12 monthly double pocket page to record my family’s adventures. Before each year begins, I make some design decisions about photo sizes + products. Generally, I like to include a 6″ x 8″ photo of myself with four to five 3″ x 4″ portrait photos along with Elle’s Studio monthly products. Here is a recent example of a 9″ x 12″ monthly pocket page from June 2020. I like the idea of having a repetitive design scheme to reduce decision fatigue and using similar elements across all my pages. You could easily achieve cohesion on your page by attaching the Acetate Months to your printed pictures as shown in the image above. Here I use the word, “May.”

2. Have a go-to journaling system
After determining the size that I want to use, I then think about what kinds of stories that I want to record. I have written a few posts for the ES blog about the type of journaling I like to do. You can find those posts here and here. I believe that practice is essential to writing your stories down—you just need a place or space to remember them. Generally, I use Instagram and Facebook to remember funny moments, but if you are not technologically inclined, you may want to use the Monthly Highlights 3×8 Inch Journaling Tags or the Highlights from this Month 3×4 Inch Journaling Tags to capture your story.

3. Store like items together
Lastly, my final tip is to *try* to keep my scrap space organized by grouping “like items” together. That means stamps + ink blocks go together, while journaling tags and paper each have their own place. When it comes to smaller items like these Weekly Die Cuts Labels, consider sorting them into fun dishes that you have a arms length. As always, if something doesn’t bring you joy, don’t be afarid to sort and send them to a school or daycare.
Now that I have shared some of my strategies for documenting 2021, tell me, what are your crafty plans for the new year? Thanks for looking!

Holiday Baking Memories with Katarina Prevendarova

Hi friends! It’s Katarina here today to share with you my latest traveler’s notebook spread featuring the beautiful November kit and add-ons

For some reason I always struggle to finish my Christmas documenting. However, finding that my December 2019 TN is almost empty was a good thing, as I was so inspired by the new November products I just had to do a Christmas layout right away!

Supplies | November 2020 KitAutumn Die Cut Tabs, Jane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Stickers — WhiteVery Merry Chipboard Stickers, Dark Green Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Christmas Basics 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper StackFa La La 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Christmas Tabs Stamp, Holiday Baking Stamp

The product that inspired me the most was the Holiday Baking Stamp. I love this type of stamp—you can stamp on a piece of a cardstock, cut out and use as your own embellishment. That was exactly what I did: enjoyed some stamping fun and then a lot of really relaxing fussy cutting. Next, I adhered my cut outs onto the right side of my spread creating my own pattern with some extra dimension. These cute icons were a perfect match with the two photos of my son helping out with Christmas baking.

To add a little more depth and detail, I did some second-generation stamping and stamped the green sprinkles right on the background paper. I also used the Christmas Tabs Stamp together with one of the Autumn Die Cut Tabs to embellish my photos.

On the left side of my spread I used the green grid paper from the Christmas Basics Paper Stack as my background and I cut a piece of the pretty striped paper from the Fa La La Paper Stack to ground my photos, title and journaling.

I combined the Dark Green Puffy Alphabet Stickers and white Jane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Stickers to create my title. The cute “fresh from the oven” journaling tag from the November Kit had to make its appearance on this spread. I used a piece of the wood grain paper from the Fa La La Paper Stack to give the tag a little separation and also to bring the brown color to this side of my spread too.

For a finishing touch, I added three chipboard hearts from the Very Merry Chipboard Stickers. I love how everything coordinates together, which helped me enjoy putting this spread together even more. I hope I inspired you in some way today—maybe to use your stamps to create your own embellishments or to finish your past holiday documenting before the next holiday season comes in!

Thank you for stopping by and have fun creating with the November kit and add-ons!

Document December 2020 Prep: Volume 2

Welcome to volume two of our Document December 2020 preparation posts! If you missed our first week, check out that post here. Today we have three designers joining us to share how they are organizing, prepping pages and getting ready to make this the best season of memory-keeping yet! Let’s get some ideas from Patricia Roebuck, Marsha Farris and Jen McMurtrey!

Patricia Roebuck

Hello Elle’s Studio and Document December friends!  I think for all of us, this year will look different. For me personally it involves starting two part time jobs outside of the home. To keep and remember all of the details of this busy month, I have scored and folded the calendar to insert in the front of my album.  This will make the documenting more fun and relaxing when I sit down to document.

Prepping has always been a key to my success and will be more so this year.  I start by removing all of the packaging from the stickers and chipboard.  For the embellishments, I will keep them in the packaging until time to create.  For now, I have everything together in a plastic container from Target. Next, I start stamping and die cutting, and include these elements in the container.

I want to include some of my own titles to combine with the puffy alphas from the kit, so I stamped out titles in advance using the Candy Cane Large Jane Alphabet Stamp. Next, I stamped out the designs from the December Memories Stamp and punch or die cut these out. The smaller images on kraft cardstock will mimic the wood veneer pieces from the kit and blend in perfectly.

I want the larger stamped images to be layered, so I die cut circles from the Christmas Basics Paper Stack to adhere beneath. Last, I use a corner punch to notch out the corners of the December 3″ x 8″ Journaling Tags to resemble a ticket.

Little details like the corner punching, stamping, punches, and die cutting set me up to be successful, since I think this year is important for memory keeping. I can’t wait to see the memories we create together this year as we Document December!

Marsha Farris

Hey, Elle’s Studio friends!  I’m excited to share a few pages I have prepped for my December album. This year I am using a Citrus Twist Life Crafted album that holds traveler’s notebook sized pages. I will be mixing in a variety of page protectors and adding some out of the pocket pages. I don’t prep my entire album, but I do like to create a few pages and pocket cards ahead of time to make my process easier on busier days.

I created several pocket cards for my album.  Using some of the Elle’s Studio metal dies, I added a variety of see-through elements, including a fun sequin shaker heart on one of the cards.

I also added twine and machine stitching to some of my pages and pocket cards for a bit of additional texture and interest.  I chose not to number any of my foundation pages.  This will allow me the ability to move elements and layouts around as I create during the month!

Jennifer McMurtrey

I am so excited about this year’s Document December and have already begun to get all of my Elle’s Studio goodies organized. Because I believe in utter honesty, I have to say that my past attempts at completing a Document December album have failed miserably. This year, however, I am determined to finish the album and have fun in the process. To assist in reaching my goal, I have begun putting together the foundation pages and prepping for the stories I want to tell.

To keep this project low pressure, I am choosing not to number the pages so I am able to move things around if necessary. I love the December calendar and placed it front and center in the album. As we move through the month, I will mark any notable occasions on the corresponding dates.

My favorite part of Document December is decorating my pages with the adorable embellishments included in the kit. Even better is being able to use supplies I have on hand, such as the Large Jane Alphabet Stamps and Dies that I added to the folded portion of the calendar.

Wow, so many beautiful foundation pages! Be sure to pin your favorites to your Document December boards, and get ready for another post next week with even more ideas! We can’t wait to document December with you!
