Thankful Week: Documenting Gratitude in December with Stephanie Grimes

Showing gratitude in your memory keeping doesn’t need to happen only one month of the year, and today design team member Steph Grimes is sharing how she did this during the month of December, using our newest November extras. Let’s take a look!

Many people associate gratitude with Thanksgiving, but I believe in practicing gratitude year-round. When I saw the November Merry Printables, I knew I wanted to use them to tell a story of holiday gratitude in my December 2016 album.

Supplies | Merry Printables, Documented 4 x 6 Inch Journaling Tags, Holiday Foodie Stickers, Very Merry Chipboard Stickers, Dark Green Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Christmas Tabs Stamp, Everyday Tabs Metal Die

This spread documents the details of a special weekend with my niece and my mom doing fun holiday activities together and my gratitude for this weekend. I started by printing and trimming all the 3″ x 4” journaling tags from the Merry Printables because they would work perfectly with my photos and stories. I paired the “Merry Merry Merry” tag with the photo of us at the Christmas parade and the gray plaid journaling tag to tell a little about that day’s activities. I topped it off with a stamped tab from the Christmas Tabs Stamp which I die-cut using the Everyday Tabs Metal Die as a placeholder for my date.

The cookies and sprinkles designs in this month’s kit are some of my all-time favorites and I knew as soon as I saw the 3″ x 4” journaling tag in the Merry Printables that I wanted to use it with the photos of us making cinnamon applesauce ornaments. I am so happy to have it as a printable so that I can print again in the future! On the tag I wrote a little list of all the fun holiday activities we did together this weekend and added “bullets” using puffy dot stickers from a variety of Elle’s Studio collections.

I wanted my gratitude journaling to be a feature of this spread because I am always just so grateful for time spent with my nieces and nephews and we had such a wonderful time together doing things from my childhood Christmases. But, I also had a lot of great photos I wanted to include, so I decided to include a 4″ x 6″ flip-up interactive element on my page to house my gratitude journaling and a couple extra photos.

I wrote out my story of gratitude for this special weekend on one of the Documented 4 x 6 Inch Journaling Tags and used a bit of washi tape to make a hinge which I attached it to the back of a 4″ x 6” photo of us with our candy houses. Then, I added another 4″ x 6” photo to the front of my journaling tag to complete the flip-up. I added an Avery index tab to the flip-up element to indicate that it flips and stamped a phrase from the Christmas Tabs Stamp inside the tab. I finished off the journaling tag by spelling out the word “gratitude” using the Dark Green Puffy Alphabet Stickers and another sticker from the Very Merry Chipboard Stickers.

It’s important to me to practice gratitude for the good things (and the not so good things) in my life all year long. I hope this has inspired you to tell stories of gratitude outside of November—especially during the holidays. Thankful Week: Family Moments with Marsha Farris

Welcome to another day of our Thankful Week blog posts. Today, design team member Marsha Farris is here to help us get the special photos and stories of the people we love the most, our family members, in a traveler’s notebook. Let’s see another of Marsha’s stunning TN designs!

Hey, Elle’s Studio friends!  It’s Marsha here with you today, and I’m sharing a layout focusing on thankfulness. My family is so important to me, and I wanted to create a spread documenting how very grateful I am for each of them. I chose a few photos of my husband and sons that were taken a few years ago. I thought the pictures really captured their playfulness when they are together.

Supplies | November 2020 Kit, Dark Green Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Autumn Tiny Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers, Jewel Polka Dot 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Fa La La 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Christmas Basics 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Christmas Tabs Stamp, Large Jane Alphabet Stamp — Solid, Large Jane Alphabet Stamp — Outline, Collected Stamp, Everyday Tabs Metal DieEveryday Tabs Vol. 2 Metal Die, Pocket, Frame, and Flip Up Metal Die

To begin the layout, I selected items from the November kit and add-ons to fit my blue and green color scheme. I also chose to include a pocket page so that I could document several photos and have plenty of room for journaling. I selected a 4″ x 6″ tag from the November Kit, trimmed it to 3″ x 4″, and adhered a photo to it. Using blue and black ink, I stamped a tab and sentiment with the Christmas Tabs Stamp. I used the Everyday Tabs Metal Die to cut it out and attached it to the top of my photo with a mini staple. I used an ampersand die cut from the kit and a few of the Dark Green Puffy Alphabet Stickers to embellish.

For the other pocket, I created a flip up feature using a patterned paper from the Jewel Polka Dot Paper Stack and the Pocket, Frame, and Flip Up Metal Die.  I love this metal die! It makes creating flip ups so quick and easy! I created a tab to add to the bottom of the photo using the Collected Stamp and Everyday Tabs Vol. 2 Metal Die.

I typed my journaling, trimmed it into strips, and added it to a journaling tag from the November Kit. I also added a photo to another journaling tag and embellished it with a thankful die cut.

For the right side of the layout, I selected some patterned papers from the Fa La La and Christmas Basics Paper Stack, trimmed them into strips, and added them to the top and bottom of a piece of white cardstock. I created another tab using the Christmas Tabs Stamp and the Everyday Tabs Metal Die and added it to the top of the page. The Dark Green Puffy Alphabet Stickers were perfect layered over a banner die cut. To complete the title, I did some stamping using blue ink and the solid Large Jane Alphabet Stamp. I slightly offset the outline Large Jane Alphabet Stamp using black ink, and I love the shadow effect it created! As a final finishing touch, I added some of the Autumn Tiny Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers to the page.

I hope you have found some inspiration for creating a thankful-themed traveler’s notebook layout using the November kit and add-ons!  Happy creating!

Come back tomorrow for another Grateful Week blog post with inspiration to help you document what you are most grateful for in life, and be sure to share what these Grateful Week projects are inspiring you to create by posting in our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group or on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio.

Thankful Week: Holiday Moments Documented with Jen McMurtrey

This week, we are focusing on what we are thankful for in life, and how we can document it in so many different formats: from scrapbook layouts to mini albums. Each project this week will give you inspiration on how you can record the special things in your life at a time when we should all be looking for the good! Jen McMurtrey is with us today to kick off this week of thankfulness with a layout that records a special person and holiday memory. Let’s take a look!

Thankful, grateful, and blessed are three words I am really embracing these days. With all the uncertainties we seem to be facing, it is more important than ever to remember the many wonderful blessings in my life, such as my mom. This candid photo was taken on Thanksgiving Day a couple of years ago, and I love that it captures her totally in her element, basting the turkey and completely unaware that I was watching.

Supplies | November 2020 Kit, Holiday Foodie Stickers, Jane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Stickers — White, Burgundy Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Fa La La 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Jewel Polka Dot 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Autumn Days 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Mini Dated Stamp, Everyday Tabs Vol. 2 Metal Die, My Heart Metal Die

To begin this project, I selected patterned papers from the Fa La La, Jewel Polka Dot, and Autumn Days Paper Stack that embrace the color and feel of fall and cut them into strips. Next, I used oxide inks in coordinating colors on white cardstock to create a backdrop for the layout.

After the inks had dried, I machine stitched the strips of patterned papers onto the cardstock and lifted the edges to add dimension to the project. Next, I backed my photo and adhered it to the strips of paper with foam squares.

In case you hadn’t noticed by my recent projects, I am totally in love the with the My Heart Metal Die and cannot get enough of them. Case in point . . . this layout. Using the same patterned papers, I cut several hearts and layered them around the photo and on the left side of the layout before adding die cuts and stickers from the November kit and add-ons.

Additionally, I used the Everyday Tabs Vol. 2 Metal Die to create a tab that sits behind the die cuts I added to the top of the picture. I had planned on stamping a sentiment on the tab but ended up leaving it blank instead.

Last was the title, which I created using the new Burgundy Puffy Alphabet Stickers and Jane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Stickers. Below the title, I stamped the date using the Mini Dated Stamp and added journaling along the bottom border of the layout.

The Elle’s Studio November kit and add-ons are ideal for documenting your holiday memories, or everyday happenings of gratitude. No matter the occasion, this month’s products are sure to delight.

Thank you so much for stopping by and have a wonderful day!

Document December 2020 Prep: Volume 1

Welcome to the first volume of our 2020 Document December preparation posts! Today, and the next two Saturdays, we will be sharing inspiration, tips and ideas from our design team using our Document December 2020 products and monthly kit and add-ons to help you get ready for a month of merry memory keeping! Read on for tips on how to make this December project your most successful yet!

Amanda-jayne Baldwin

Hi, Elle’s Studio friends! This year I’m opting for a traveler’s notebook-sized 6.5″ x 9″ album, so that I can have a mix of pockets, notebook pages and even mini scrapbook pages! To help me prepare for the upcoming season, I have already downloaded and printed the free Document December Prompts Printable and placed it inside my album cover to help keep me inspired! This is such a helpful little printable! It’s perfect for photo prompts, journaling ideas, and even page titles!

I’ve also printed a few of the Merry Printables to include in this year’s album too! Having a few note cards printed and base pages completed will really help me to save time in putting my album together during the festive season!

Melissa Mann

Hey, everyone! I hope you all are excited for this holiday season! I’ve been itching to work on my Document December album and start filling it up with all the holiday fun and memories that we celebrate this time of year.

I am going to be featuring a lot of “see through” elements in my album this year and am using repurposed pieces of chipboard and acetate to create them. I love layers and using transparent pieces of vellum and acetate will help create more depth and the illusion of layers in my album!

Suzanna Lee

I am going to be honest and tell you that I have attempted this project for eight straight years and failed, miserably. I’m hoping to change that this year! With some prep work and my Elle’s Studio Document December kit, along with the November and December monthly kits and add ons, I can cross the finish line this year!

I haven’t prepped the bulk of the album before and I have done that this year. I have also restricted myself to a story a day and a limited my supplies.

Three-quarters of my foundation pages are complete, housed in a Citrus Twist Life Crafted album. I really enjoy the traveler’s notebook size but found last year that I didn’t like the way that a TN bound album bulged after just one week. This 6-ring binder afforded me the ability to use the Dec 2020 acrylic, wood veneers and other bulkier elements without worrying about busting a seam! I also like that the binder rings give me somewhere to hang little trinkets from.

Very few of my pages have numbers on them, so that I have the flexibility of moving the foundation pages around. My plan is to use lots of large photos and full-sized pocket photos with a few embellishments on top of the page protector while there will be a pocket card for journaling. Choosing to do this will mean emphasis on sharing the stories of this COVID Christmas experience and be less art focused as my scrapbook pages can be. I want to document meaningfully and purposefully in this album. I can always create arty Christmas pages for my regular albums!

Amy Jo Vanden Brink

I love setting up supplies for December documenting! My main goal with preparing in advance is making sure I have space to include my favourite supplies, instead of stashing them and never getting them on a page!

When I saw the cookie stickers, I knew for sure I wanted to use them. Making a transparency with them was an easy way to ensure that they will end up in the album no matter if they work on a photo or not!

My goal is to make sure that my supplies, and the pages I prep beforehand allow flexible documenting!

We just love these foundation pages and ideas on how to focus on documenting the important stories of the month! Be sure to check back next week for more ideas, foundation pages and inspiration, and don’t miss out on our Document December products to help you record this special month of memories!

Sketch Day with Kristina Proffitt

I just love a good sketch and being a bit intimidated by a sketch! That’s exactly what I was feeling when I looked at today’s sketch:

First, I don’t create 12″ x 12″ layouts and so I wasn’t sure how the sketch would translate onto an 8.5″ x 11″ layout; second, although I love large photos, I just wasn’t sure about it in this sketch; and then, the big title. Here’s the cool thing about sketches: they are a starting point for your creativity and you don’t have to copy a sketch exactly as is! The purpose of a sketch is to inspire you, to help you get started and to be a starting point. It’s good to feel challenged in your creativity every now and then. Here’s what I created with the sketch as my starting point:

Supplies | November 2020 Kit, Autumn Die Cut Tabs, Jane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Stickers — WhiteVery Merry Chipboard Stickers, Christmas Basics 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Medium Jane Alphabet Stamp — Solid

When I was looking at photographs to use for this sketch, I knew that I wanted to use a large photo of the sweet little flowers that my son Jack gave to me in the backyard recently. It was the sweetest thing. He told me to keep them forever and I reminded him that they wouldn’t last forever, but I would take a photo of them and then I’d always have the photo. He said that was a good idea and so that’s what I did.

I wanted to capture this sketch in a very simple way – that’s my style and that’s what I like and so instead of doing a lot of layering (like the sketch), I took a diagonal stripe paper from the Christmas Basics Paper Stack and cut it down a bit so that when I placed my 5″ x 7″ photo on it, I would have a bit of the pattern showing on both sides. I loved the look and how it framed the photo.

I am really digging the Autumn Die Cut Tabs this month and so I knew I wanted to use one of those on the photo. I took my tiny attacher out and attached the tab to my layout, stamped the date and then added a small chipboard sticker from the Very Merry Chipboard Stickers. I just love the bit of whimsy it gives and I loved continuing the soft, pretty colors into my embellishment. This shows you that you don’t have to just document holiday photos with these November kit and extras.

I cut a small piece of the Christmas Basics Paper Stack polka dot patterned paper and put it along the bottom of the layout and then took another Autumn Die Cut Tab, layered one of the Very Merry Chipboard Sticker hearts on it and stapled that as well. I do love layering embellishments and so I did that a bit on the layout. Remember, you can see a technique on a sketch and you can utilize it in other ways.

I love the Very Merry Chipboard Stickers, so I added the “love” chipboard to the middle of the photo—one of my favorite things to do! Instead of including an entire 3″ x 4″ journaling tag on the layout, like in the sketch, since my space was a bit more limited, I decided to cut a strip off of one, write my journaling on it and adhere it to my layout. A little chipboard star next to it and it was good.

For the title, I knew I wasn’t going to stamp a super large title like the sketch, but I did pull out my solid Medium Jane Alphabet Stamp and stamped the word “gifts.” Then I used the white Jane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Stickers to spell out “best” on top. These kinds of gifts really are the best and these kinds of sketches that challenge you are really the best, too!

It’s great to get out of your comfort zone when you scrapbook every now and then and sketches are a good way to do just that. Give this sketch a try—it might be exactly what you need to get out of a creative rut or try something new in your documenting! No matter what, you’ll have lots of fun either way! One of the best gifts you can give yourself and your family is to document your life, so I hope you’ll do some of that today, friend.

Show us how you use today’s sketch to create your project, whether you use it as is, or change it to fit your style like Kristina did! Share your project on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio, or in our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group!

Seeing Double and Christmas Tabs with Suzanna Lee

Hiya, scrappy peeps! It’s Suzanna here today to share with you a double page layout featuring the new November kit and add-ons, and lots of labels using the Christmas Tabs Stamp! This layout includes six square photos and one amazing stamp set with SO many possibilities!

Supplies | November 2020 KitDocumented 4 x 6 Inch Journaling Tags, Merry Christmas Card Front Tags, Currently Label Stickers, Very Merry Chipboard Stickers, Dark Green Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Christmas Tiny Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers, Christmas Tabs Stamp, Medium Jane Alphabet Stamp — Solid, Fa La La 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Christmas Basics 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Everyday Tabs Metal Die, Labels Metal Die

This layout documents traditions or events that stood out to me during our December last year, kind of a summary page, if you will! Let’s talk about all of the ways that I used the new Christmas Tabs Stamp!

First, I used the Christmas Tabs Stamp in the traditional way combined with the Everyday Tabs Metal Die to create standard tabs. Each of the six photos has a tab that relates in some way to an event or a memorable moment. Something that I did not account for and I would like to call your attention to is that the “opening” in each of the tabs is different and thus not all phrases will fit in all three tabs. The longer phrases only fit in the downward, triangular tab. No worries, there are so many great words or phrases to choose from, that you are sure to find a great alternative, just as I did.

Another way that I like to use these words and phrases in the Christmas Tabs Stamp is to create a border as I have done on the 4″ x 6″ journaling tag from the November Kit. It’s a simple, but relevant border. Chose a word or phrase and repetitively stamp it. A simple red dot in the intentional space between words allows for distinction and a pause of the eye should one decide to try to read this decorative border.

Third, and most unique and creative, you can also use the diagonal part of the Christmas Tabs Stamp to create borders as well! This involves masking, a technique that is best visualized. Be sure to check out my process video below to learn how I did this! Essentially, I covered the portion of the stamp that I didn’t want with a sticky note, inked up the stamp, removed the sticky note and stamped. I repeated this process down the length of the cardstock to create a festive border.

Last but not least, you can’t beat the label stamp included in this set. I needed the weight of black for contrast on the layout and stamping the label in black was a simple, yet effective way of obtaining that. Just as the tabs of the Christmas Tabs Stamp coordinates with the Everyday Tabs Metal Die, so too does this label, with the Labels Metal Die!

As you can see, stamping with the Christmas Tabs Stamp can dress up a layout nicely, enabling you to add “wordy” details to your memory keeping. Check out my process video to see how this double-page layout came together with all of these stamp possibilities:

Thanks for stopping by the blog today! I hope I have inspired you to look at your stamps with a discerning eye to use them “as is” and with a bit of a twist.

Varied Versatility with Amanda-jayne Baldwin

Hi, Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Amanda here, and today I am sharing some memory keeping love with the gorgeous November Kit and new release items! Every month, regardless of the season or any holiday theme, there’s always plenty of products to document your everyday stories. Elle’s Studio products are so varied and non-specific that they appeal to me for all types of creating: scrapbooking, card making, pocket pages, mini albums, off the page items, and, most importantly, they are non-gender specific. I am able to tell everyone’s stories with Elle’s Studio monthly kit. YAY!

Why is that important? Well, take today’s project and the somewhat Christmassy vibe of the November Kit and extras and you’ll understand exactly what I’m talking about!

Supplies | November 2020 KitCurrently Label Stickers, Holiday Foodie StickersJane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Stickers — White, Very Merry Chipboard Stickers, Dark Green Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Acrylic Christmas Trees, Jewel Polka Dot 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Fa La La 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack

Not a Christmas layout, no pink to be seen, and yet I used the very same November Kit and extras that I also created this Christmas page with:

Talk about versatility! See why I LOVE all things Elle’s Studio?! It’s all about balance, beautiful colors and patterns, high quality, varied products and a chance to document my stories, my way! Speaking of documenting stories, let’s chat about today’s layout!

First up, I had quite a long title that I wanted to feature on my page. The solution? I wrapped my title around my photo cluster to create more space for all the words. I also mixed my alphas for three key reasons; 1. So I had enough of each letter/numeral required; 2. So the words would all fit (the smaller Jane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Stickers were perfect for the show’s long name) and 3. To create interest and keep you reading!

I love how effective that long, circular title looks!

At the time of creating this page, I only had one small photograph to work with. With such a big title, my photo was bound to get lost. The solution? I created a large base of mixed 3 x 4 inch tags from the November Kit and patterns from the Fa La La Paper Stack to mount my photo on. To make my photograph appear larger, I cut the 3 x 4 cards in half and fanned them out behind my photo. This not only created a point of interest, but also widened my image.

For my layout color scheme, I chose colors that featured in my photograph. This created a more cohesive look and unified all of the different elements throughout the page.

Those Acrylic Christmas Trees were the perfect adornment to my photo cluster. You’ll spy that trees are featured in my photo background; the show name is all about forest life, the trees coordinated with my color scheme and they aided in the widening of the cluster’s appearance. Awesome! I also used a Holiday Foodie Sticker and the Very Merry Chipboard Stickers to emphasize my photo cluster despite having no relevance to food or Christmas! See what I mean about every month being so varied and suitable for all kinds of creating and story telling? Love it!

The Currently Label Stickers happened to feature ‘watching, listening and singing’ and yes, you guessed it, worked with my color scheme. Needless to say, I just had to use them, but to make them stand out that tiny bit more, I foam mounted them all for good measure!

The tiny yellow stars are from the Acrylic Christmas Trees and I couldn’t resist sprinkling them around my title. If you look closely, there’s a pop of yellow in my photo background, and those tiny stars really enhanced this! Simple, well considered placement of embellishments makes all the difference!

There you have it! Another handful of reasons as to why I think Elle’s Studio products are the very best, and another fabulous layout to add to my sweet son’s album! Wasn’t he cute as ‘Ratty’?

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope I have inspired you!

Our monthly kits are limited and once they sell out we will not be restocking! Look for a new kit on the 10th each month at 8:00 am Pacific! Our kits are available for single purchase or select our subscription option to subscribe and SAVE!

Here’s a peek of all the new and exclusive add-ons we have available this month! All of our coordinating add-ons can be purchased separately, so you have a chance to pick the products that work for your stash and what you’re documenting now, and if you need more than one, you can purchase multiples, too! The new items added to the shop for November are: stamps (Holiday Baking and Christmas Tabs), Autumn die cut tabs, Very Merry chipboard stickers, Merry & Bright wood veneer, acrylics (Christmas Trees and Light Bulbs), Holiday Foodie stickers, Currently label stickers, Jane Tile alphabet stickers, burgundy puffy alphabet stickers, Layered Card Metal Die, Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday card front tags, 4 x 6 inch Documented journaling tags, and November labels.

This reveal also includes a new metal die we’ve designed to help you create perfectly layered cards! Use the dies to cut your layers, then add a Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays card front tags and chipboard embellishments, and you have a beautiful card created in no time! You could also use this die to create shaker cards, add wood veneer or stamped sentiments, and MORE! There are so many fun ways to use this die, and we can’t wait to see the cards you create!

We are also excited to announce that our Pocket, Frame, and Flip Up Metal Dies and stamp are back in stock! Creating custom pockets, frames, and flip-ups for your pocket pages is now easier than ever with the new innovative products we’ve designed and we can’t wait for you to see how they work!
