Sketch Day with Patricia Roebuck

Hello, Elle’s Studio Friends! I hope you are as excited as I am about the September kit and extras. I love creating at this time of the year, but since it can get busy, a sketch always helps to get me inspired. Let’s check out the sketch I created with:

I used this sketch to create an autumnal spread in my traveler’s notebook album!

Supplies | September 2021 KitAutumn Die Cuts, Gray Cardstock Basic Shape Stickers, Wood Veneer LeavesThankful Paper StackHome Sewn Stitches Stamp, Autumn Puffy HeartsGold Tiny Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers, Banners Metal Die

I love the blocks on the sketch, as well as the clustering, and that is where I started with my design. To make it work in my traveler’s notebook, I turned the sketch 90 degrees to the right and created blocks using tags from the September Kit and the Thankful Paper Stack. I picked bold, fall colors for this project and then created my own clusters inspired by the sketch using the September Kit die cuts, Home Sewn Stitches Stamp, and Wood Veneer Leaves.

I wanted both the main and the second photo to fit into the design. Having such a bold background color and using the Autumn Die Cuts and Wood Veneer Leaves, creating my photos in a circle didn’t overpower any of it, but flowed very well. I continued clustering inspired by the sketch, but this time added the Gray Cardstock Basic Shape Stickers to add my journaling. I just adhered these to a piece of paper to send through my typewriter and was able to peel them off to apply where I wanted them.

I really love the look of this 4 x 6 inch September Kit tag turned vertically. The Autumn Die Cuts and Wood Veneer Leaves really help with the vertical design and that photo being in a circle doesn’t take away from that design. For this cluster, I added the September Kit die cut, Home Sewn Stitches Stamp, Banners Metal Die, and Thankful Paper Stack.

This bottom block was created with the Thankful Paper Stack trimmed with Gray Cardstock Basic Shape Stickers, and Autumn Die Cuts, and Home Sewn Stitches Stamp layered on top. I sprinkled a few of the Gold Tiny Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers to create a triangle on my project.

The kit, extras, and the sketch did the work for me! I so enjoyed putting this together. I hope you are as inspired by the sketch as I was! Be sure to share what you create with it in our Facebook Group, or on Instagram using the #EllesStudio hashtag!

Memory Planner Magic with Melissa Mann

Hello, friends! This is Melissa with you today and I’m sharing a new spread in my memory planner using supplies from the amazing September kit and add-ons. Take a look:

Supplies | September 2021 KitAutumn Die Cuts, Banner Stickers, Gray Jane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Stickers, Light Teal Cardstock Basic Shape Stickers, Home Sewn Stitches Stamp, Thankful Stamp, Monthly and Daily Tab Stamp, You Got This Stamp

One of my favorite things about using the memory planner to document the weeks of our life is being able to use a TON of stamps. I don’t like to add a bunch of bulk to my pages and find myself reaching for my stamps quite a bit while putting my planner together.

I have found I can achieve a good bit of “texture” and dimension by using my stamps and layering stickers over top. The cardstock basic shape stickers that Elle’s Studio has released are perfect for this layering technique.

Another fun way to use up some of your 3 x 4 inch journaling tags in your memory planner is to cut them down to a smaller size. On the right hand side of my spread, you will see a small block with the pink “LOVE THIS” sentiment on it, taken from the September 2021 Kit and cut down to fit into the grid on my page.

Have you been experimenting with the memory planners lately? We would love to see how you are documenting your daily life! Be sure to share with us in our Facebook Group or on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio! Thanks for stopping by!

Carving Out Fun Memories with Jen McMurtrey

Happy (almost) fall, y’all! It has already been established that autumn is my favorite season, and I am so excited about the Elle’s Studio September kit and add-ons. The rich, warm tones of the papers and embellishments have me ready for crisp mornings, lattes, boots, and sweaters. However, one of my favorite items in this month’s release has got to be the Home Sewn Stitches Stamp, and I have already used it on three different projects!

Rather than continue to gush over these amazing stamps, let’s look at what I was able to create with them.

Supplies | September 2021 KitAutumn Die CutsThankful Paper Stack, Home Sewn Stitches Stamp (currently out of stock, but click “notify me”), Thankful Stamp, Large Jane Alphabet Stamp – Outline, Large Jane Metal Dies

It is hard to believe that these pictures of my kids were taken almost 14 years ago! I’m not sure where the time went but I am working on getting all of these memories documented.

To begin, I selected several red, orange, and yellow patterned papers from the Thankful Paper Stack. After cutting them into strips of varying widths and lengths, I adhered them to the left edge of a piece of 12 x 12 inch white cardstock. Once the papers were in place, I used the Home Sewn Stitches Stamp on each piece.

To keep the patterns consistent, I used one stitched stamp pattern per each of the different patterned papers. Next, I used the same stamps on the right side of the cardstock to add texture to that side of the layout.

The photos were next, and I layered them atop one another along the edges of the patterned papers. Each of the photos was backed with either patterned paper or a 3 x 4 journaling tag from the September Kit and then again with the woodgrain paper from the Thankful Paper Stack

When creating the title, I used the same woodgrain paper that back the photos with the outline Large Jane Alphabet Stamp and Large Jane Metal Dies to create the title. I placed the title along the right edge of the layout to balance the patterned papers. I love the giant title and how prominent it is on the page.

Lastly, I added embellishments throughout the layout using pieces from the September Kit with the Autumn Die Cuts and a sentiment from the Thankful Stamp. I typed the journaling on my manual typewriter, cut it into strips, and placed it beside the photos.

Thank you so much for visiting today! I hope you’ve been inspired to record your favorite fall memories with the Elle’s Studio September kit and add-ons. Remember to post your projects in our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group and tag us on social media using the hashtag #EllesStudio so we are certain to see your amazing creations!

Sensational Stitches with Guest Designer Kat Benjamin

Happy Monday, friends! We are so excited to start off this fresh, new week with our new September guest designer, Kat Benjamin! Check out Kat’s Instagram feed and you’ll see that her designs are nothing short of FUN—full of color and eye-popping designs! Her first project created using our September kit and add-ons is no exception, and we think you’ll love how she’s used one of our new stamps in such an amazing way! Let’s take a look!

Hi everyone! It’s Kat here and I am so excited to be the guest designer this month! A big thank you to Elle and Meghann for having me!

For my first project, I thought it would be best to let the amazing Home Sewn Stitches Stamp shine! When I first saw them in my box, I knew I wanted to do a rainbow-like background with them and once I saw all the vibrant autumn colors in this month’s releases, my idea fell into place.

Supplies | September 2021 Kit, September 2021 LabelsAutumn Die Cuts, Banner Stickers, Autumn Puffy HeartsThankful Paper Stack, Home Sewn Stitches Stamp, Large Jane Alphabet Stamp – Outline

I began by stamping along the right side of my page using Distress Oxides that I thought matched well with this month’s release items. I used Ripe Persimmon, Wild Honey, Lucky Clover, Peacock Feathers, Prize Ribbon and Black Soot. Once I had my background created, I adhered my pictures in a vertical strip and embellished with a variety of items that matched the background. There were so many perfect options from Autumn Puffy Hearts, to Autumn Die Cuts, to Banner Stickers. My embellishment-loving heart was certainly happy!

I finished off my page by ripping off a portion of the left side of my cardstock and backing with the striped paper from the Thankful Paper Stack. I use this technique on most of my layouts and I really like the way it looks. I also used the outline Large Jane Alphabet Stamp to add “The Farm” for my title, then added a small amount of journaling on one of the September 2021 Labels.

This layout actually came together really quickly once my stamping was complete.  Admittedly, that part did take me a little while, but I think it was worth the time! I really love a good rainbow!

Are you loving the Home Sewn Stitches Stamp as much as I am? I can’t wait to see what everyone creates with them!

Hi!  My name is Kat and I’m so excited to be joining you this month.  I am a wife to Eric and a Mama to Piper (the girl) and Moose (the dog).  We are lucky to be living in sunny Southern California right now, so we spend our weekends playing on the beach or going on small adventures around our town.  I work full-time, but try to get my scrappy time whenever I can, as my “paper therapy” is very important!  I also try to work out everyday and read at least a few books each month.  My scrap style is pretty simple, but I try to make it as colorful as possible.

We are so excited about what Kat created using our new Home Sewn Stitches Stamp! Until you can see what Kat creates for us next, follow her on Instagram and her blog to see more of her beautiful creations, and find our Home Sewn Stitches Stamp in the shop only while supplies last!

Creating in Color with Shannon Dombkowski

Hi there, Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Shannon here, sharing a pocket page using the fabulous September kit and add-ons. I love that this kit has a definitive shift to autumn, but still works for my photos from early August. To put this page together, I chose my tags first so I could decide on my color palette for the page. Then, I looked at the rest of my kit + extras to see how I could add to those tags and make them unique.

Supplies | September 2021 KitSeptember 2021 Labels, Banner Stickers, Wood Veneer Banners, Thankful Stamp

The first thing that I decided to do was use a 4 x 6 inch tag as a 3 x 4 inch tag. The “thankful” sentiment was perfect for this photo of my daughter greeting my husband as he returned home from deployment. I had to pair them together! I wanted to pull a little more orange into the page so I cut a label from the September Labels in half for the bottom of the card.

The rainbow 3 x 4 inch tags are always my favorites in Elle’s Studio kits. I enjoy adding stickers or die cuts to them, particularly if I can achieve a tone-on-tone look. These three Banner Stickers really embraced the themes of the photos on my page and they also just happened to work really well in terms of colors and spacing on this tag.

When I add items to my page, I always try to think about how I can achieve balance. I typically do this by keeping my eye on creating a visual triangle. I did this in two ways on this page. First, I arranged the three Wood Veneer Banners in a triangle around the page. Second, I arranged the Thankful Stamp sentiments on my photos in a triangle (plus one!). By spreading these similar items throughout my page I avoid the layout looking too “heavy” in one area.

Finally, I had to find a way to use the Thankful Stamp on my layout. I enjoy a bulleted list as journaling. It cuts right to the point and sums up for the viewer exactly what they’re looking at. While I do have more in-depth journaling on another tag on this layout, that mostly talks about my husband returning home, I took the opportunity here to list some details for all of my other photos on this layout.

I hope that I’ve inspired you to add your own personal touch to the great tags that are included in the September 2021 Kit! I can’t wait to see what you create!

A Halloween Highlight with Suzanna Lee

Hiya Elle’s Studio peeps! It’s Suzanna here today—the day after kit release day! Have you had a chance to check out the September release? What are you most excited about? This has got to be my all-time favorite release—I love all things autumn and Halloween and this release is chock full of those themes with a rich color palette! Today I have a Halloween-themed layout to share with you highlighting the pocket tag from the kit itself combined with a few of the add ons.

Supplies | September 2021 Kit, September 2021 Labels, Gray Cardstock Basic Shape Stickers, Halloween Cardstock Stickers, Gray Jane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Stickers, Autumn Puffy HeartsGold Tiny Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers, Home Sewn Stitches Acetate Stickers, Thankful Paper Stack

Combined with just three coordinating papers for the newly released Thankful Paper Stack, I used 6 of the pocket tags from the September Kit to layer color around my photos. Yup, you read that correctly, six pocket cards! The stitched card I cut in half and was able to use that twice, on the top and bottom.

In need of a defined border for the layout, I cut thin strips of the black and white stars patterned paper from the Thankful Paper Stack to outline the edges of the page. The spider web from the Halloween Cardstock Stickers is a perfect spooky element hanging in the corner.

If you are in a time crunch and want the look of sewing on your pages, but either don’t have a sewing machine or don’t want to take the time to do it, then you need to make sure you pick up the Home Sewn Stitches Acetate Stickers or Home Sewn Stitches Stamp! Seriously, I think I’ve used one or the other on all six of the layouts I have already created since the kit arrived at my door. I love stamping on my layouts, so the stamps are my personal preference, but I know that’s not everybody’s cup of tea. The acetate stickers are a perfect substitute for those who don’t want to invest in inks or blocks or are fearful of stamping on their pages. And look at how superbly those Autumn Puffy Hearts coordinate with the Gold Tiny Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers and Gray Jane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Stickers—perfect to sprinkle a little autumn on all your pages!

This little cluster is comprised of die cut labels from the September Kit, a pumpkin sticker from the Halloween Cardstock Stickers, a gold star from the Gold Tiny Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers and a grey star from the Gray Cardstock Basic Shape Stickers. I could have used lots of those grey shapes through out the page as an accent color but felt that some constraint was necessary!

Check out the process video I created for this layout here:

While I’ve limited my color palette here to aqua, orange and black to work with my Halloween theme, there are some amazingly rich colors in this month’s release. Be sure to look at yesterday’s blog post and check out all the amazing projects that the design team has created with the September kit and add-ons and you will see what I mean by how utterly amazing this release is! Keeps you going back to the store for more!

Thanks for stopping in today!

Stretch Your Supplies with Amanda-jayne Baldwin

Hi Elle’s Studio, friends! It’s Amanda here, and today I am sharing some of my top tips to stretch your August 2021 kit and add-ons! I only had one of the 3 x 4 inch journaling tags left from my August 2021 Kit, but that didn’t stop me from creating a full 12 x 12 inch page! Here’s what I crafted!

Supplies | August 2021 Kit, August Labels, Proud Of You Die Cuts, Light Teal Cardstock Basic Shape Stickers, Lizzy Alphabet Stamp

Wow! Such an amazing layout & you’d never guess that I was short on supplies! Here are my top tips on using your scraps!

  • Add a mixed media base! A splash of paint, and some cleverly repeated stamping will create the illusion of ‘more’.  I used the packaging technique to apply my blue watercolor paints, and then repeat stamped the scallop icon from the amazing Lizzy Alphabet Stamp.
  • Labels are everything! The humble label is such a useful and versatile embellishment. I cut a few of the August Labels and August Kit labels in half and tucked them under my photograph. Even though I only had the one journaling tag to mount my photo onto, I now had the appearance of a layered cluster. I also used labels to embellish my journaling (let the good times roll!) and enhance the torn edges at the top of my page. Simple, but so effective!
  • Die cuts add interest and dimension! Adding die cuts can really bring attention to certain page elements. I used the Proud of You Die Cuts to adorn my photo and make it the focal point. The die cuts also act as page builder, and create the illusion of a much fuller design, despite the lack of supplies.
  • Use your stamps! Not only did I use the Lizzy Alphabet Stamp for my mixed media base, I also repeat-stamped the stars from this stamp set to fill in the gaps. Using different colored inks or similar stamps in different sizes will also create the illusion of more embellishments on the page.
  • Reveal ‘snippets’ of pattern paper to give the impression that there’s more hiding! I tore the edges of my white cardstock base and stapled my left over paper scraps to the back of these tears.
  • Make stickers do the hard work! The Light Teal Cardstock Basic Shape Stickers were perfect for tucking into my photo cluster. I also sprinkled some of the light teal stars around my page.
  • Repetition is key! I opted for a simple color palette which I repeated to use in my embellishment selection. The over use of the same colors enhanced the design and gave it a more plentiful appearance. I also repeated the star shape throughout my layout. Again, the repetition of similar items really enforced the abundant look of the page.

And there you have it—my top tips for stretching your supplies while we wait for our newest kit to arrive! I hope I have given you a few ideas to try! Thanks so much for visiting today!

Show us how you’re stretching your August 2021 kit and add-ons! Post a project in our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group, or on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio! We can’t wait to see how you use Amanda’s awesome tips!
