Capture Life – 11.11.13

Capture Life – Currents

I love to randomly include “current” lists in my album. Because it’s all about the Right Here – Right Now. Today we’re going to take just a bit of a twist to the list idea.

Grab a piece of fabric or just your kitchen table and create a visual “favorites” collage using those actual items!

Our oldest son chose:
hunting (yep that’s him in the newspaper article), trapping, playing outdoors in the cool air, playing Legos, and playing cards with his brother.

Our youngest son chose:
Duck Dynasty, Hunting, Trapping, Legos, and cutting wood with his daddy.

Ella and I took a walk around her room and came up with these favorites:
Hello Kitty, Sponge Bob, her new Fall book, her new mittens, and her play food that she had set up for a tea party.

This is such a simple idea, yet something we’ll look back on and be thankful we have these small mementos.  I’m sure I’m not the only child of the 80s that doesn’t see a photo of Rainbow Brite or Cabbage Patch dolls and isn’t immediately back to my younger days; right?

Now, let’s get those photos on a page and our memories recorded!

I created a page using a fun combination of collections: November and September Tag Kits, 2014 Calendar collection, Penelope, Noel, and the Saltwater Summer Happiness Stamps.

I hope you are inspired to capture your current favorites today!

sketch thursday

Welcome back to Sketch Thursday. Today’s sketch was initially inspired by the Deck the Halls paper from the Noel collection.

I have been dreaming about this paper and my craft knife since I first got it 🙂 There’s so many possibilities with all these triangles…

I started by cutting lots of random triangles, some with the white border some without. I then played around and arranged them on my page. I decided to add just a few red ones form the Snowflakes paper and then embellished with wood veneer and sequins.

For a chance to win a $10 gift certificate to the Shop create a project inspired by today’s sketch, upload it to our Member Gallery and post a link here. A random winner will be selected and announced with next week’s sketch.

cards: wood veneer

Hello hello! Today’s post is all about our newest member of the family… wood veneer!

I love how these, just like all other  Elle’s Studio products, are so versatile and perfect for all kinds of paper crafting! While the main shapes are Christmas-y, the extra stars and banner pieces are perfect for everyday crafting.

merry christmas: I originally created this card for CHA back in July when my rolled paper obsession began :). After getting the wood veneer snowflakes I thought I should re-do it and replace one of the snowflakes… it’s the perfect touch!  I cut strips of papers from the Noel collection, rolled and glued them to the card base then embellished with snowflakes and gems. I used a Noel Lil Snippet- Label for the sentiment.

love: This card is one of the many ideas that popped in my head after seeing this amazing wood veneer tree. I used the big piece as a template to pierce my card, then used red thread to stitch it. I added back a few of the veneer pieces and embellished with small gems and a strip of paper.

Have you purchased your wood veneer yet?! What have you made? I can’t wait to see.

Project Life

This week’s Project Life covers the week of October 14-20th.
This is the week my daughter Jordan had her tonsils taken out.   Although there were many other events from this week, the surgery was a huge focus.

I decided to enlarge an iPhone photo of her right after surgery (once she was feeling more herself) and included it on one whole photo pocket page.  I added her hospital bracelet, a badge by Basic Grey, and my title at the bottom of the page.

This image of her in a tiger hospital gown, with her teddy bear (in a surgery cap), and an orange popsicle, is what I will always remember from that day.  Don’t be afraid to enlarge candid iPhone photos to include in your album.

On the right side, I included an insert (Design I by Becky Higgins) that told the story of her surgery.
I used papers from the Serendipity and Saltwater collection, along with a Cameron circle tag and Penelope Lil’ Snippet.

On the backside of the pocket page, I included three instagram photos from the day of her surgery.  I loved how the photos progressed and showed how well she recovered the day of the surgery.

I used the Number It Stamp on kraft paper and punched it out with a 1″ circle punch.  I also included the time each photo was taken to show the progression of the day.
The right side of the page really shows the remainder of our week.  It was also fall break so I included fun activities my son enjoyed, a prescription tab, a lego packaging image (for Jordan after her surgery), a  very important football game, and how my husband and I spent most of our evenings while we were homebound watching two full seasons of “Homeland”.   I loved incorporating the October 2013 kit and seeing how pieces from the Cameron collection worked perfectly with it.
We want to feature your Project Life album!  During the last week of each month we will be featuring a couple Project Life spreads that caught our eye in the Member Gallery.  We will be posting Project Life spreads on our blog tomorrow!   If your spread is featured we will be sending you a $5 gift card to use in our store.   Good Luck!

Project Life was created by Becky Higgins as a way to simplify how you document life and preserve memories. Photo pockets used in my Project Life album are created by Becky and can be found here.  You can read of all the Elle’s Studio Project Life posts here.
