Cards with Rachel

Today we are sharing this super cool card created by Rachel:HeyHoney_detail

When I saw the sherbet-colored tag in the Let’s Eat – Bits and Pieces set, I knew it had to be a focal point on a card – I just adore the colors and the style. I wanted to keep it the star of the show so I kept the rest very simple. I used the ‘Hey Honey’ tag from the June kit for my sentiment and added a little cluster of embellishments around it.HeyHoney

I misted a piece of cardstock using a hexagon mask and similar sherbet colored mists. I popped the tag up on this misted cardstock rectangle and adhered the whole panel to a kraft card base with foam tape. Easy peasy and lots of bright colors for a cheerful summer card!

I love this card, Rachel! It’s perfect for summer.Thank you so much for sharing 🙂

PROJECT LIFE: SUMMER

Today I am sharing the first few pages in my summer Project Life album.IMG_2008

I thought long and hard about how I wanted to document our summer, and what I want it to look like.  There are so many exciting and wonderful things about summer.  But the pace is FAST and many of our days look similar (we are always at the pool!).   I knew a standard 12×12 album would be too overwhelming for me to undertake, so I opted to use a 6×8 Handbook album!

IMG_2001

I was already excited and knew I made the right choice after creating only the first few pages.   For my opening page I used the “Summer” Journaling Card from our June 2015 Kit.  The photo is of our kids on the morning of the last day of school!  Such mixed emotions (for me) on the last day of school!IMG_2003

My mom, sister, and sister-in-law surprised my daughter with a special girls night to watch Peter Pan on stage at a local dinner theatre to celebrate the end of school (don’t worry, my son got a separate special night with my husband:).   I used a combination of products from the Let’s Eat collection, and the June 2015 Kit.  I also used the new So Sweet Stamp

IMG_2013

I used the new Good Times Printables on the back side of the collage page.  I love the large circle and the yellow journaling card (that I trimmed down).   This page was just a quick overview of highlights during the week.  I am already loving how easy and fun it is to put together this book!

3 Favorite ES Products: Cienna Paper Collection Pack, Let’s Eat-Good Eats Stamp, and Letter & Number Stickers-Woodgrain

IMG_7831Why did you start scrapbooking and how did you get started?
Let me start with how it all started…I bought my very first rubberstamp back in 1992 and began to create my own handmade cards. I was hooked!!! Rubberstamping branched out into scrapbooking…making mini books and also project life. I love the hobby so much…let’s me unwind and it’s a great way to get those photos into books! Plus the friendships I have made through this fun hobby…priceless!

What are three products you can’t live without?
Adhesive, Washi Tape and Clear Stamps

ScrapSpaceWhere do you scrapbook?
My crafty space is in our unfinished basement. It is nothing fancy by any means, but it makes me happy!!! My favorite part about my space is my pegboard. I am on a few different design teams and I have the product from each company up on my pegboard, so when it’s time to create…I have it all in front of me! I also have several book bookshelves that stores more embellishments and tools.

IMG_7834What do you listen to/watch while scrapbooking?
I am either listening to itunes or iheartradio app on my ipad! Gotta have some music!!!

IMG_7835[1]

Do you record every moment or just special ones?
I usually just record special ones, but for the past couple of years I have been jotting down lots of everyday moments inside my planner!

Thank you so much for inspiring us, Candi!

Painting Die Cuts by Lisa Dickinson

I love the versatility that die cuts have in the design process!. You can size them to fit exactly the space you need, and cut them out of any material suitable for your page. And even though it requires an electronic means to produce them, it’s easy to give them a handmade touch with paints. Here’s my favorite (i.e., super easy!) way to customize die cut shapes.
EllesStudio-Sunshine-Lisa011. Select the die cuts you want on your page and edit/resize in your cutting software. Cut shapes from white card stock and leave the sheet on the adhesive backing when complete. Most die cuts are a bit delicate, and keeping them on the cut sheet when painting makes it easier to cover the whole shape with color without making too big of a mess!

EllesStudio-Sunshine-Lisa022. Use your favorite media to add color to your shapes. I used a mix of watercolor paints and watered down acrylic paint, as well as some spray inks (just remove the spray lid and dip your brush right in for more saturated colors!) Don’t worry about the paper buckling – it will flatten back out when it dries. And if you want a really smooth piece, you can always run a warm iron (with no steam) over the piece after you remove it from the cut sheet.

EllesStudio-Sunshine-Lisa033.  Once dry, carefully remove your painted pieces from the cut sheet and discard the surrounding card stock. You can stick them to your page with adhesive, or use stitching for an added handmade touch.

EllesStudio-Sunshine-Lisa04Then just add whatever photos, papers and embellishments you want to finish your design! I combined some of the smaller Elle’s Studio tags and stamps, as well as some shapes punched from the patterned papers, on top of my painted die cuts. I love the colorful result!

There are so many great cut files available at Elle’s Studio and using this technique, you can customize them to fit any page theme. Try it next time you want a completely unique element in your design!

Sketch Thursday

Hello everyone. We’re back with a super fun sketch today and I hope you love it as much as I do. It was inspired by an ad I saw on Instagram recently…

sketch 1June

For my layout, I flipped the design to fit my picture better. I used several papers from the Cienna Collection and very few other embellishments. I love how the soft colors and patterns on this collection don’t make the layout look too busy or clash with the picture.

Pizza! Layout by Jill Sprott

Pizza-Jill-S-ES-LOAsk anyone who knows me: I love pizza.  When I say “love,” I am referring to the always-hungry, always-craving kind of love, of the obsessive variety. Yes, I love pizza in a Criminal Minds kind way. I just can’t get enough. Neither can the pizza-lover who designed the new Elle’s Studio Let’s Eat collection, apparently. It’s absolutely packed with pizza-themed elements, as this layout proves.

I began the layout by focusing on a photo that I took of a glorious, piping hot pizza pie. Initially, I wished that the photo had been taken before my daughter and I snagged the first of the slices, but in looking at that empty space where only the box liner remained, I realized that this would be a great place to add the journaling. I did so using the text tool in Photoshop, and then printed the photo.

Pizza-det-journaling-blogThe color scheme of the layout is based on the delectable colors in the photo — red tomato sauce and pepperoni, gray mushrooms, toasty light brown crust, and yellow layers of cheese.  I dipped into the Let’s Eat Paper Collection Pack and cut strips from sheets of “Yum,” “Meal Planner,” and “Five Stars” papers, placing them vertically across the page, behind the photo. Knowing how much I love pizza, you won’t be shocked when I tell you that I still felt I needed more of it on the page, so I created my own pattern using the pizza stamp in the “On the Menu” stamp set.

Pizza-det-1-blogOn the right side of the page, I added additional stamping using word stamps from the multiple (!) Let’s Eat stamp sets, and then worked in accents from the collection, one of which is a pizza wood veneer shape that is quite possibly the best accent that has ever existed in all of craftdom.

As a finishing touch, I stitched around the photo and over some of the accents. Upon completing the layout, I suggested pizza for dinner, and though my husband groaned, I can’t say that he was surprised.
