Kill That Kit: Mini Album Edition with Melissa Mann

How do you typically use up the last bits of your kit or a collection? Today Melissa Mann is here to share a way that you may not have thought of: a mini album! She’s created a gorgeous gift album using our new acrylic albums, that come in four different colors! Let’s take a look at what she documented with it:

Hello! This is Melissa with you, and I’m super excited show you the mini album I created using all the leftover bits & pieces from my July Kit and add-ons!

As soon as I saw the acrylic mini albums that Elle offered, I knew I needed to make a brag book for my mom featuring her grand-baby! I had pieces left over from the July 2018 Kit and from the various extra embellishments offered last month and I thought that would be a great way to “kill that kit” by creating a mini book.

I always create my mini books by constructing the pages and pictures first. I used up a lot of the 3″ x 4″ journaling tags I had left and a couple of the 4″ x 6″ journaling tags. I supplemented these with various patterned papers from both the Shine and the Noteworthy 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack.

After I create my pages, I start embellishing the spreads. I used die cuts, stickers, alphabet stickers, chipboard, wood veneer, and lots of stamps! Stamps are such a great product to use with mini books as they don’t add any extra bulk to your pages.

Once I get my pages all built, I then go back and add the punched holes and slip them onto the book rings. I didn’t know how I wanted to create the title to my mini album and I loved the clean fresh look of the Pink Acrylic Album.

I decided to create a “cover page” for my album and let that peek through the acrylic! I LOVED how it turned out. I put my Title Builder Stamp Sets Vol 1 and Vol 2 to good use to create my title – they made it SO easy! I slipped an Acrylic Star onto the book ring on the front of the album to add a little texture to the front.

How are you going to “kill your kit” with the July supplies? A mini album is a GREAT way to finish off all those little bits and bobs! Plus, it’s always fun to create a little something for someone and gift it to them.

Highlight Stamp Love with Jamie Leija

Our Highlight Stamp is so versatile; you can use it to add the day of the week, create a title or embellish your layout or pockets! Jamie Leija realized this after she started using it, and now she can’t put it down! Let’s take a look at her new pocket page spread that she created with this stamp!

I am so mega excited to share the pocket pages I put together using the new Highlight Stamp! Let me tell you something about this set: it’s so stinking versatile!

Supplies | July 2018 KitVellum & Wood Veneer Asterisks, Puffy Heart Stickers —Summer Mix, Highlight StampNoteworthy Double-Sided Journaling TagsNoteworthy Epoxy Stickers

I sat down to work on these pocket pages and knew I wanted to use the Highlight Stamp with the photos. I figured I would make my own journaling tags with it, but then I realized that the Noteworthy Double-Sided Journaling Tags worked so well with the colors in my photos, that I just had to use those instead. I thought that I would make another project using the Highlight Stamp, but kept playing with these photos.

As I was working I kept turning to the Highlight Stamp thinking, “I could use this one here!” “and that one there!” Before I knew it, my pages were finished and stamped all over using the set. It kind of snuck up on me.

For the first tag, I added the asterisk outlines and a “SAT” to denote the day of the week. I stamped the chunky lines directly on to the bottom photo in a bit of dead space in the corner. It became the perfect little nesting space for some embellishments. Then I stamped my own label and “star of today” and added it on top of the photo of the dogs. I added a hand drawn squiggle for good measure, which I learned from fellow team member Andrea Gray!

For the Memo journaling tag, I added “afternoon” and my favorite “let’s have some fun” asterisk sentiment. The finale was stamping “Highlight” directly onto my bottom photo and adding “story” repeatedly for a bit more graphic appeal. The die-cut arrows from the July Kit pointed to my stamped grouping.

I just love how it all came together! Like I said, I set out to use the Highlight Stamp,  thought I couldn’t use it, and then ended up using it all over! If that isn’t the mark of a good stamp set I don’t know what is?!

Mixing and Matching Moments with Jess Forster

What do you do when you only have a few puffy stickers left on your sheet? Get creative with them, and try to pair them with a coordinating monthly kit! That’s what Jess Forster is doing today, and we think you’ll love what she created. Let’s take a look:

Hooray for using your scraps! If you are like me, you probably have a lot of left over embellishments from various kits after you create a layout. Today, I am here to show you how I created this fun summer 6″ x 8″ double pocket page spread by combining leftover puffy stickers from the Noteworthy Collection and journaling tags from the July 2018 Kit. Have a look!

When mixing and matching various product lines, I look for versatility in my embellishments. As you can see, most of the stickers on my Noteworthy sheet were gone. Instead of tossing these great embellishments out, I decided to use the 4″ x 6″ fireworks tag from the July Kit to create a unique journaling tag with bullet points. Numbers, whether they are a part of an alpha or a puffy sticker set, are a great way to use your stash and document story facts in point form.

In addition to writing a paragraph about my son’s favourite part of his splash pad adventure on the 3″ x 4″ journaling tag, I placed the Noteworthy puffy number stickers on the 4″ x 6″ journaling tag, which included three random story facts about the day. Sometimes, it is hard to include this type of information in your journaling. List format works well to include extra details that may otherwise be forgotten.

Besides using the numbers from the Noteworthy Puffy Stickers, I also used the stars and word stickers, like “documented” and “capture” to complete a visual triangle on my page. I love that Elle matches her colours so that the embellishments from various products could be placed strategically to balance the colour in my design.

I hope I have inspired you to mix and match products from various lines, including the Noteworthy Collection and the July Kit!

Thanks for looking!

Layers of Dip Dye Tags with Nancy Damiano

When was the last time you did something really creative with digital cut files? Not just cut them out and adhered them to a page, but really made them a BIG part of your page design and allowed them to add color and texture? Nancy Damiano is with us today to show us how to do that, using the tag die cut from our July Digital Cut File. Let’s see what she made:

Hey there Elle fans! It’s Nancy here today, with a look at the July Digital Cut File featuring a collection of die cut tags. Let’s take a look at how to create an interesting background full of texture and pops of color. It’s the perfect way to showcase a favorite summer photo!

Supplies | July Digital Cut File, Let’s Go Traveler’s Notebook Kit, June 2018 Kit, Noteworthy Epoxy Stickers

Let’s create something fun! Start by cutting out the July Digital Cut File tag 13 times to a 2-1/4″ x 4″ size out of white cardstock. While I used only the “love” tag, feel free to use the other titles for your project. You could also use cardstock in ombre shades to create the same look without the messy ink.

Use india ink (watercolor works too) in yellow and shades of blue to dye the ends of the tags. You can brush on some water at the bottom of the tag, then add a few drops of ink and let it “run” around the tag. Use a heat gun to carefully dry the tags and lay flat.

After adhering the tags to the center of the layout, create a bed of layers by using patterned paper from the fun Let’s Go Traveler’s Notebook Kit and a journaling tag in yellow from the June 2018 Kit. Add an epoxy title, some Elle’s Studio acrylic accents and a strip of stitched crepe paper to finish off the design.

Painting and layering these digital die-cut tags creates so much color and texture on this happy page! Thanks for stopping by!

Traveler’s Notebook Progress with Meghann Andrew

Have you ever tried to change up your scrapbooking format? Why not try out a traveler’s notebook! They’re small, portable, and thin: great for documenting on the go, or just saving space in your craft room! Meghann Andrew is sharing an ongoing project documenting a fun city break using our Let’s Go Traveler’s Notebook Kit, and we think it will inspire you to try out this fun format!

Hey there! It’s Meghann Andrew with you today, and I am LOVING documenting in my Seattle traveler’s notebook using the Let’s Go Traveler’s Notebook Kit! This format is completely new to me, but I have found creating in this smaller format so much fun! I’m halfway through documenting the days of our trip, and I’d love for you to see the three spreads that I created recently:

The colorful glass photos from the Chihuly Museum deserved an equally colorful spread! I balanced out all of the color on the left side with the colorful “oh the places we go” paper on the right. I also wanted to add the name of the artist in large letters on the left page, so I grabbed the Stanley Alphabet in the outline, stamping it in navy, then adding the solid colors inside, slightly offset.

On the right side, I framed a family photo with a 3″ x 4″ yellow tag from the June 2018 Kit, by cutting out the white center and adhering over my photo. We really loved this museum, so the “the highlight of this trip” sticker added to the journaling tag topped the photo, then I added more typed journaling using a June Print and Cut Label, and adhered it below my photo.

The following spread started day three of our trip, and was all about a visit to the Seattle Aquarium. The green grid paper was perfect for backing the left side, and the space at the top was the perfect place to add the title, using the cardstock alphabet stickers from the Let’s Go Kit, along with the Stanley Jr. Alphabet Stamps in both solid and outline—similar to the page before, just in a smaller format! A grouping of the “can’t get enough of this” die-cut from the June 2018 Kit, “here” sticker and “snapshot” stamp from the Let’s Go Kit, puffy heart sticker, and the date, using the Mini Dated Stamp, all connected the photo to my typed journaling below.

On my third spread, I documented my favorite place in Seattle, the Public Market! I had to place the iconic market photo on the left page, and again added a label from the June Print and Cut Labels to include my journaling below. The “the best” stamped arrow sentiment was placed next to the label to draw your eye to the really fun page on the right.

The right side includes a 2″ x 8-1/4″ long strip of photos that I created in Photoshop Elements. To really show off my photo strip, I added a 1/2″ piece of the colorful paper from the Let’s Go Kit to the left, which gave me the perfect place to add my “market day” title, using both the Stanley Outline and Solid Alphabet Stamps. To separate the words, I added a puffy heart sticker, “the best place” sticker, then the red “here we go” Adventure Puffy Sticker below.

Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my Seattle traveler’s notebook progress! I can’t wait to fill this notebook with our memories, documented with the Let’s Go Traveler’s Notebook Kit! Thanks for stopping by today!

How to Use Our Highlight Stamp

Hello there! Today we’re putting the spotlight on one of our favorite new products in the shop, the Highlight Stamp! This awesome, versatile stamp can be used for adding a title, journaling or even embellishment!

Let’s take a look at five different ways that our team has used the stamp this month:

1. Create a colorful, custom patterned background for your layout, the way that Amanda-Jayne did with the thick, solid lines and the thin lines from the “morning, afternoon, evening and date” stamp. What a clever idea!

2. Use the stamp to fill our July Labels, like Neela Nalam did on this layout using the “let’s have some fun” stamp, and create a colorful page border.

3. Create a line of embellishment through your photo, the way that Jamie Leija did in her traveler’s notebook by pairing the Highlight Stamp asterisks with the Vellum and Wood Veneer Asterisks. The smallest asterisk can also be inked separately from the dash next to it!

4. Notate a journaling tag with key words, like Susan Brochu did on this layout, using the “story,” “notes,” and “details” words found in the stamp. It’s a great way to come up with journaling ideas!

5. Note the day that a photo was taken, the way that Candace Perkins did on all five photos from her beautiful layout. We love how the stamped day tag coordinates with the rest of the embellishments in the cluster!

We can’t wait to see how you use the Highlight Stamp! Be sure to post your project on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio when you create!
