Back to School Week: The First Day in Pockets

Happy Monday, ES friends! For many of us, school is already back in session, or is right around the corner, so what better time to get inspired by our team with a week of school-themed projects using our new August 2022 kit and add-ons? We’re kicking off the week with Jen McMurtrey, and pockets—such a great way to get a lot of school photos and details in your album! Let’s take a look!

Hi friends! It’s Jen today with a back-to-school themed pocket page layout featuring each of my three kiddos on their first day of kindergarten. It has been fun to go through old photos and relive these memories that took place beginning in the fall of 2000. It is especially sentimental since our youngest is leaving for college in a few weeks. Cue the tears!

Supplies | August 2022 KitAugust 2022 Cut FilesAugust 2022 PrintablesBasic Grid 4 x 6 inch Journaling Tags, August LabelsNotebook Die Cut Shapes, Lost in a Good Book Cardstock StickersPuffy Star Stickers, School Tabs Stamp, Medium Hazel Stamp, Lizzy Alphabet Stamp, Jane Alphabet Stamp

This project began with the photos, which are framed by an August 2022 Cut File using white cardstock. I decided to keep the frames neutral since there are so many colors throughout the layout. After framing the photos, I selected August Labels in colors that match the pictures and stamped each of their names using the Jane Alphabet Stamp.

When creating the title for the layout, I opted for a , Basic Grid Journaling Tag upon which I used several of my favorite stamps. First, I used the School Tabs Stamp to create the muted background and did this by stamping each image on scratch paper once before doing so on the tag. This allowed me to add to the background without taking away from the title. Next, I used the Lizzy and Medium Hazel Stamps to add the title and followed that with several embellishments from the August kit and add-ons.

After figuring out the placement of my photos, I pulled several 3 x 4-inch journaling tags from the August Kit and shuffled them around until I was happy with the color distribution.

As always, having the color-coordinating elements from the kit made this process fun and easy.

To carry the photo of Phoebe and Caleb across two pockets, I adhered the photo to a 4 x 6-inch journaling tag before cutting it in half. Along the right side, I added color by attaching die cuts and a few Puffy Star Stickers.

I love the August 2022 Printable files for journaling and used a green 3 x 4-inch journaling tag to document the story. To keep the vibrant colors of the printables, I print them on semi-gloss photo paper for a crisp finish.

Adding a few embellishments here and there was the final step and super easy using the coordinating die cuts and Notebook Die Cut Shapes. Last, I added several Puffy Star Stickers to the photos to pull all of the colors together.

Even though pocket pages are not my go-to format, I love this layout and have already begun planning its counterpart to document their last, last days. Cue the tears… again!

As we head into fall and begin looking forward to school and all of its activities, remember to snap photos and get those memories documented. Don’t forget to post your projects to social media using the hashtag #EllesStudio so we are sure to see your creations. Have a great day!

Traveler’s Notebook Current Reads with Wei Wei Wang

Hello, Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Wei Wei here with you today sharing a new traveler’s notebook layout using the August 2022 kit and add-ons.

Supplies | August 2022 KitAugust Labels, Notebook Die Cut Shapes, Fuschia Jane Alphabet Cardstock Stickers, Jane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Stickers – White, Lost in a Good Book Cardstock StickersThis Rated Stickers, Christmas Tiny Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers, Warm Puffy Heart and Star Stickers, Gold Star Paper Clips, Good Times Paper Stack, The Best Paper Stack, A Good Book Stamp, School Tabs Stamp, For The Record Stamp, Attacher Metal Die

I started off on the left side of my spread by building the base. I chose the purple grid paper from Good Times Paper Stack as my background and then added the attachers which were cut with the Attacher Metal Die and The Best Paper Stack.

The photo placed in the center recorded all of the books that I read to prepare for an exam recently. To prepare for that exam, I’ve been burning the midnight oil over the past two months. The darker circles under my eyes became darker and darker!

I layered the photo with August Labels and added a few embellishment pieces from the Notebook Die Cut Shapes and Lost in a Good Book Cardstock Stickers around the photo. I added various Christmas Tiny Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers as well.

The This Rated Stickers and “For the record box” from the August Kit are perfect for documenting my journaling. And the words from School Tabs Stamp, definitely match my current life.

For the right side of the spread, I adhered the green grid August Kit 4 x 6-inch tag to the center. There was plenty of white space at the bottom, so I decided it would be the perfect place to add some stamping with the A Good Book Stamp. I really love all of the wonderful patterns in that stamp!

The book 3 x 4-inch tag, with a piece of vellum above, is a great place to hold the title. To create this title, I used the For The Record Stamp, along with the Fuschia Jane Alphabet Cardstock Stickers and white Jane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Stickers. I love how all of these elements came together!

Topping the journaling tag with the Lost in a Good Book Cardstock Sticker and a few hearts and stars really finished off the spread!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Happy creating!

Current Reads Mini Album with Nathalie Leonelli

Hello crafty friends! It’s Nathalie here today and I’m excited to share a fun little project I made with the August kit and add-ons. I was very inspired by the book-themed goodies, tags, stickers, and stamps found in this month’s release and created a mini reading journal.

Supplies | August 2022 Kit, Basic Grid 4 x 6 Inch Journaling Tags, Fuchsia Jane Alphabet Cardstock Stickers, Lost in a Good Book Cardstock Stickers, This Rated Stickers, Warm Puffy Heart and Star Stickers, A Good Book Stamp

The base of the mini book is one 12 x 12-inch sheet of cardstock cut in half, each half folded accordion-style, then glued end to end. It makes thirteen 3 x 4-inch pages, plus a cover. Despite all my best efforts, I know that it will be sufficient for my yearly reading. If you read more, you can add more pages.

I followed a similar design for each book read: a photo of the book and a This Rated Sticker on one side and, a short review on the other side using tags from the kit or from the Basic Grid 4 x 6 Inch Journaling Tags

In addition, each spread is decorated with a mix of Lost in a Good Book Cardstock Stickers and A Good Book Stamp. They are fun, coordinate perfectly, and can give additional information about the book (format, borrowed or purchased, etc.)

Whether you’re a big reader or not, I hope you will be inspired to document the books you have been reading so far. It is always fun to look back on your reviews and remember your favorites!

August Kit Preview with Melissa Mann

Hello, friends! This is Melissa with you, and I’m excited to give you a preview of some of the products that will be available in the August monthly kit and add-on release, coming this Wednesday, August 10th at 8am Pacific time! There are lots of great new goodies, especially, for those book lovers! Take a look at the first project I created:

Supplies | August 2022 Kit, Notebook Die Cut Shapes, Fuchsia Jane Alphabet Cardstock Stickers, Jane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Sticker – Teal, Lost in a Good Book Cardstock Stickers, Teal Cardstock Label Stickers, Adventure Paper Stack, A Good Book Stamp, School Tabs Stamp

I knew from the beginning of this project that I wanted to create a grid-based layout. I chose six books that I’ve either read or want to read and cropped photos of them to 2 x 2-inch square images. I picked six pieces of patterned paper that corresponded with six of the 3 x 4-inch journaling tags from the August 2022 Kit

I layered the patterned paper, 3 x 4 inch journaling tag, and photos on top of each other and then stitched lines down the width of my layout, above and below my photo grid. Then I stitched down the individual blocks. Once I had the bones of my layout constructed, I then stamped the word “reading” from the School Tabs Stamp near the stitched lines above and below my grid.

I stamped out several images from the A Good Book Stamp in black ink on white cardstock and cut them out. These were layered in each individual block along with the Teal Cardstock Label Stickers, Lost in a Good Book Cardstock Stickers, and the Notebook Die Cut Shapes

I used the Jane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Sticker in teal to create a title on the top and bottom of my layout that said “Go Read a Book!” and my journaling strips went on either side of those captions.

I hope you are ready for all the new products that will be available tomorrow! Thanks for stopping by!

Set your alarms for tomorrow, August 10th at 8am Pacific time when our newest products will hit the shop!

July Kit and Add-Ons Revisited with Diane Dziuban

Hi, everyone and happy Friday! It’s Diane with you to share a fun pocket-page layout I created with the gorgeous July monthly kit and add-ons

Supplies | July 2022 Kit, Black Jane Alphabet Cardstock Stickers, Cerulean Blue Jane Alphabet Cardstock Stickers, Black Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Everyday Label Puffy StickersPuffy Star Stickers, Gold Star Paper Clips, Medium Hazel Stamp

I really wanted to stretch my kit as far as I could and create one more pocket page layout. As I pulled out the remaining pieces of my kit, I realized I had mostly all of the greens and blues left, so, I had my color scheme! I knew instantly that these tags would go perfectly with my photos from a recent weekend trip to a ranch in the hill country of west Texas. I have documented some of this story in a smaller album, but I really like to give an overview of vacations/weekend trips in my main family album.

I wanted all of my photos to be the 3 x 4-inch vertical size, so I needed 10 filler tags. I had 8 tags left in the July Kit, so I needed to stretch my kit to have two additional tags. I cut the boxes out of the tag that had a spot for two stories. This enabled me to make two tags. I paired a small 2 x 2-inch photo with each of those cards and added some label stickers.

I also took several of the die cut pieces and layered them on a plain 3 x 4-inch white piece of cardstock to create another tag to hold a photo.

In the bottom right corner of my layout, I covered the sentiment on the tag so that it would go with this particular layout. I used the journaling spot to put the name of one of the restaurants we ate at.  I liked that I was able to use the tag and bring in some of the navy blue color to my spread.

I sprinkled some of the bright, fun Puffy Star Stickers throughout the layout to bring it all together.

I love that I was able to use pretty much the entire kit this month and get several stories documented! I hope you found some inspiration on how you can stretch your kits, too! Happy crafting!

Seeing Stars with Junell Kruzel

Hey everyone! It’s Junell here on the blog today, sharing how I made this quick layout for my Life Crafted album using the Star Notes Stamp and Metal Die.

Supplies | Orange Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Puffy Star Stickers, Star Notes StampStar Notes Metal Die

I knew I wanted to use just one large photo as my background, so I would just need some simple star embellishments to go along with the theme.

I wanted to play around with my heat gun and embossing powders. I used stamps from the Star Notes Stamp to stamp out some patterns and then I heat embossed them with silver powder. I then used the large star die to cut out a larger star. You can get a lot of texture and shine using this method!

I also embossed and die cut out some other stars to add around the layout.

I wanted my title to be inside an embossed star, but I did not want the dots on the inside, so I grabbed my craft knife and just cut the dots out. Now I have two stamps that I can either use together or separately. I used the Orange Puffy Alphabet Stickers for my title and just hand-wrote the rest.

After I had all the stars and my title created, I placed them on the photo in a triangle and adhered them down. Some are on foam dots to give dimension. I also added some colored stars from the Puffy Star Stickers.

Thanks for reading! I hope this gives you a couple ideas on how to use your new Star Notes Stamp and Metal Die!

#EllesStudio Spottings on Instagram

Hello, friends! It’s getting close to our August kit and add-on reveal, so its time to share some of the amazing projects we’ve spotted on Instagram using our #EllesStudio hashtag! Take a look at six that caught our eye, but be sure to go over and check all of them out for yourself, too!

Are you a cardmaker who loves using our stamps and dies in your designs? We think that this one by Sarah (@sarahdstamps) is pretty wonderful, and we have so many wonderful stamp sentiments in the shop, including those in our Sincere Sentiments collection! What a beautiful card, Sarah! On the right, we’re also seeing stars, but in layout form! This page by Sylvia (@scrapbuddy_)has such a fun and simple design and features our past kit and add-on die cuts, as well as a new favorite—our Title Builder Vol. 6 Simply Magic Big Words Metal Die! Absolutely wonderful!

Documenting in pockets is such a great way to get everyday photos into your albums, and we love the way that Nicole (@nlandry308) used them here with our monthly kit tags to create a colorful page. Great way to use those speech bubbles, Nicole! On the right, Kisha (@kikiscrapsalot) created a beautiful layout with fall vibes that features our Autumn Die Cuts, which are currently ON SALE! What a gorgeous page!

Our final two projects are stamp-focused! On the left, Liz (@lizlongestdesigns) used our Hugs and Kisses Stamp (sold out) to create a fun patterned background. Have you ever tried this technique before with one of our stamps? On the right, @caledoniapapercraft used our Medium Jane alphabet stamps in solid and outline to create a perfect title for her page that looks awesome with her photo! We love stamps so much for their versatility and ability to use them over and over again!

Just for sharing their projects, these six paper crafters will each win a $10 gift certificate to the shop! Thank you so much for posting your projects and using the #EllesStudio hashtag, ladies! Please email us at info@shopellesstudio.com to claim your prize!
