Simple & Sweet Back-to-School Memories with Aimee Mertell

Hello, Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Aimee back with you today sharing a fun back-to-school traveler’s notebook layout using the August 2022 Kit and extras. This school year looks a little different for us as I am trying out homeschooling. This will be a big shift for us, and even though we will just be learning together at home, I still wanted to take the traditional first day of school photos. Let’s take a closer look!

Supplies | August 2022 KitBasic Grid 4 x 6 inch Journaling Tags, Notebook Die Cut Shapes, Warm Puffy Heart and Star Stickers, Warm Solids Paper StackSchool Tabs Stamp

I snapped some photos of my son and got to work making a clean and simple layout. I really wanted to keep it pretty neutral and light with pops of yellow. I started by using a grey grid 4 x 6-inch tag from the Basic Grid 4 x 6 inch Journaling Tags to frame out my photo and then I selected my favorite yellow die cuts from the August Kit

The die cuts were the perfect compliment and allowed the perfect space for doing some stamping too, so I grabbed the School Tabs Stamp and added cute little details to the page like subjects and grade level!

To pull both sides of the travelers notebook together, I cut a strip of yellow paper from the Warm Solids Paper Stack and adhered it down across both pages for a cohesive look. I added my journaling on a large tag from the Notebook Die Cut Shapes and accented it with yellow puffy stars, more stamping and a light splattering of yellow distress oxide.

There you have it: a simple back-to-school layout that still manages to pack a big punch! The August release included such great products to support your back-to-school stories and really made it a breeze to bring this together. I hope you have walked away inspired today and have fun creating your own back to school layout!

Five on Friday with Kim Chaffin

Hello, fellow scrapbookers! It’s Kim, and I’m so excited to be sharing today’s blog post! The feature is Five on Friday, and as a minimalist scrapbooker, this is just my thing! I love the way photos and story take the spotlight when I use less product. Let’s jump right in and take a look!

Supplies | August 2022 KitAugust 2022 Cut Files

I’m a firm believer that less is more. I used one of the August Cut Files and four items from the August 2022 Kit for a total of five. Cut files are so versatile! I love to use them as digital elements. In this case, I wanted to place the stars behind my title and journaling. In Photoshop, I changed the color to white, and I lowered the opacity to 50% so that the title and journaling could be seen easily. This technique digitally creates the appearance of vellum.

I created a journaling block directly onto a full page photo. I embellished the letter ‘o’ in my title with a round blue star die cut from the August 2022 Kit, and I finished off the bottom by trimming down and adhering the yellow “this was awesome” pocket tag and rounding the bottom corners.

Label die cuts are a blank slate that you can use however you like. I think they make a super spot to stamp the date, but small phrase or word stamps work great here too! You could also write or type on them. Let your picture and story help guide your creativity.

When placing embellishments, I often use this design trick: create a triangle with the arrangement of products in the design. This is a foolproof technique that creates movement and ties the page together. You really can’t go wrong with a triangle of page accents!

Five on Friday is a fabulous way to get the creative juices flowing. Choose only a handful of products, and create a simple design that is finished in a snap, shines a spotlight on your pictures and words, and stretches your supplies. I can’t wait to see what you make!

Check out the August 2022 Cut Files that Kim used to create her page, or use our August Printables or August Print and Cut Labels to add only five products to your next project! Then share what you make with us using the #EllesStudio on Instagram or in our Facebook Group!

Book Love with Suzanna Lee

Hello there, Elle’s Studio fans! It’s Suzanna here today to share with you a large photo layout featuring the A Good Book Stamp. I have paired this stamp with other goodies from the August 2022 kit and add-ons with a large photo of my book lover. This one will read all day, every day—if she didn’t have to go to school!

Supplies | August 2022 KitBasic Grid 4 x 6 inch Journaling Tags, Jane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Stickers – Teal, Heart and Star Chipboard Stickers – Cool, Cool Solids Paper Stack, Good Times Paper Stack, A Good Book Stamp, Attacher Metal Die, Labels Metal Die

Many of the decorative elements in this layout are stamped and thus there isn’t much in the way of “other” goodies. That’s one of the beauties of stamps; you can create your OWN custom, color-specific elements! The “Purchased/Borrowed” tab stamp and “A Good Book” circular label are easily stamped solid cardstock (I used the Cool Solids Paper Stack) and cut out using the coordinating Labels Metal Die. You don’t even have to fussy cut!

This middle section of the layout is a combination of A Good Book Stamp icons in a monochromatic color scheme of inks. The shelf and books were stamped directly onto the page while the “currently reading” label was stamped onto sticker paper. If you’re worried about making a mistake and scared to stamp directly on your project, try stamping onto white sticker paper, then fussy cutting around it and sticking it directly onto your white cardstock! No one will know the difference! I modified the “currently reading” stamp by putting a sticky note over the bottom, middle section, just wide enough to stamp the bookend with the bookmark and pages. Again, making it my own!

Okay, so this isn’t really about the stamp, but if you missed out, be sure to enter your email address and click “notify me” on the Attacher Metal Die product page! See how I used it to create a flap so the 3 x 4-inch “Book Review” tag opens? It’s also great for creating “attachers” to include maps, brochures, or any ephemera to the rings of your albums, traveler’s notebooks, or Document December projects. Check out my reels if you’re not sure what I mean! I used the “book of the week” circle sentiment to provide an “anchor” for the pocket tag. The right edge slides under the left edge of the circle as there is only adhesive on the right-hand side. Now the pocket tag is secured to the page!

Lastly, stamp directly on the photo! Yup, you can do it! The “time to relax & read” sentiment is subtle, but your eye is drawn to it by the fussy-cut “this book” heart that I stamped and popped up on double-sided foam.

There are so many great things you can do with stamps! There’s a process video over on my YouTube channel if you’re interested in seeing this all come together. Thanks for stopping in today!

Parade Magic with Kat Benjamin

Good morning, everyone! It’s Kat with you today to share the newest spread in my Disneyland album.  I’ve been plugging away at it rather slowly, but the newest Magical Memories release is certainly helping me get the memories documented!

Supplies | August 2022 Kit, Magical Memories Magical Day 4 x 6 inch Journaling Tags, Fuchsia Cardstock Label Stickers, Magical Memories Cardstock Stickers, Magical Memories Cardstock Label Stickers, Yellow Jane Alphabet Cardstock Stickers, Magical Memories Puffy Circle Stickers, Puffy Star Stickers, Magical Memories Paper Stack, Warm Solids Paper Stack, Title Builder Vol. 6 Simply Magic Stamp, Title Builder Vol. 6 Simply Magic Metal Die, Outlined Stars Metal Die, Magical Memories Tab Stamp, Everyday Tabs Metal Die

We were lucky enough to procure tickets to the Oogie Boogie Bash last year and we decided to splurge at the event and also bought tickets to the Oogie Boogie Bash Dessert Party that took place before the Frightfully Fun Parade.

On the left side of my spread, I documented the dessert party, including a picture of the dessert menu and twin photos of my daughter and me double-fisting our dessert party drinks. I used a journaling card from the August Kit to add a bit of journaling to the spread.

I also used some of the Magical Memories Cardstock Label Stickers to label all the different drinks that were available at the party.

The right side of my spread contains my favorite picture from the whole trip.  It was not only my daughter’s first Disneyland experience, but it was also her first parade experience and she was totally mesmerized. I happened to grab a candid photo of the pure awe on her fae as she took it all in. Even though the picture isn’t technically perfect with the poor lighting, it’s an amazing photo to me because it captured pure magic. I wanted to create a spread that allowed the photo to shine.

I used another journaling tag from the August Kit to add the story. I also stamped the Title Builder Vol. 6 stamps using a gold embossing powder to add a little bit of sparkle to the page. I added a few gold star sequins on top of the stamping and I sprinkled around some stickers and die cut stars to finish off the page.

Have you used the Magical Memories collection to document your theme park adventures? When you do, make sure you tag us on Instagram using the #EllesStudio hashtag, or post in our Facebook Group!

Book Friends with Sarah Kee

Hi, Elle’s friends! It’s me, Sarah, hosting today’s blog post, and I’m excited to be sharing a 12 x 12-inch layout that I created using the August 2022 kit and add-ons! I felt inspired to document photos of one of my daughters with our pup. She thought it would be fun to “read” a book to our dog.

Supplies | August 2022 Kit, Basic Grid 4 x 6 inch Journaling Tags, Fuschia Jane Alphabet Cardstock Stickers, Lost in a Good Book Cardstock Stickers, A Good Book Stamp, Basic Shapes Stamp – Outline

You don’t have to be a pocket page scrapbooker to use Elle’s Studio kits. I used the 3 x 4-inch tags to mat my photos. I love that it functions as a frame for photos, and it’s a quick and easy way to make your pictures stand out from the rest of your project.

I also thought that the Basic Grid 4 x 6 inch Journaling Tags would be a fun embellishment for my layout. Instead of using it as a journaling tag, I colored some of the star tags with ink and used them as a die cut.

The book stickers on the Lost in a Good Book Cardstock Stickers made a perfect fit for this reading layout too. I layered them on top of the Basic Grid 4 x 6 inch Journaling Tags to create a fun embellishment cluster.

I used the A Good Book Stamp to create a contrast on my white cardstock. I stamped the “Book of the Month” stamp in random spots to create an artsy look to my page. I love that stamps are a great way to create your own patterned papers.

Lastly, for my title, I kept it simple by using the Fuschia Jane Alphabet Cardstock Stickers. I love how the colors stand out from the white cardstock.

That’s all for today, friends! We’d love to see your projects featuring the August 2022 kit and add-ons. Join us and share your projects with us at our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group or on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio.

And as always, thanks for reading and letting me share my work here. It’s always a pleasure to be making pretty things with Elle’s!

Back to School Week: Lunchbox Notes with Aurélie Cormier

A surprise note of encouragement tucked into a lunchbox or laptop bag can make someone’s day, and our August 2022 kit and add-ons provide the perfect products to make a handmade greeting card to do just that! Let’s look at how design team member Aurélie crafted three lovely cards to wrap up our Back to School Week!

Hello, everyone! It’s Aurélie here today to show you a few back-to-school cards I recently created with the August kit and its add-ons. Now, you may be wondering, “Back to school cards?” Absolutely! Just imagine my kids’ faces when they find these cards in their lunchboxes on the very first day of school with an encouraging handwritten note from dear old me:

Supplies | August 2022 Kit, August 2022 Print and Cut Labels, Notebook Die Cut Shapes, August LabelsLove You Paper StackThankful Paper Stack, School Tabs Stamp

Naturally, I created these two cards with my children in mind—one beginning high school and the other, in the fourth grade. The Elle’s Studio products are perfect for anyone you may have in mind. You can find all kinds of elements that reflect the recipient’s personality, just like I did with my designs.

This September could be quite special for our household as my husband may become a student himself! I couldn’t pass up the chance to create a card for him, just in case a third lunchbox would be needed that first week of school. Everybody needs a bit of encouragement at times, right?

And there you have it! Three cards ready to go for the first week of school. I hope my husband and kids will like them. And you, too!

Are you a cardmaker? Please share your designs with us in our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group or on Instagram using the hashtag #ellesstudio.

We hope you’ve been inspired to record school days this week, and cannot wait to see what projects you create! Have a great weekend, everyone!

Back to School Week: Get it Done with a Grid & LeeAnne Jones

Hello, everyone! It’s LeeAnne with you for day two of Back to School Week! It’s that time. Time to battle it out for the last glue stick in Target, test whether your kid’s backpack bottom or lunch bag zipper will hold up for one more go, and find a yearbook photo outfit that everyone agrees on. School’s back in session!

Supplies | August 2022 Kit, August LabelsNotebook Die Cut Shapes, Fuchsia Jane Alphabet Cardstock Stickers, Jane Tile Alphabet Cardstock Stickers – Teal, Puffy Star Stickers, The Best Paper Stack, Good Times Paper Stack, School Tabs Stamp

For back-to-school documenting, the Elle’s Studio August 2022 kit and add-ons offer bright colors, themed embellishments, and A+ stamped sentiments. I used a little bit of everything to create this quick and easy grid-style layout!

I opted to use the August Labels, with their notebook lines and bold frames, as a “home” for my title. I love how that turned out! The alphabet stickers fit neatly inside, and after adding that gray die cut sentiment from the August Kit and Puffy Star Stickers, the title is working double-duty as one of the three embellishment clusters in the design.

Making your own journaling strips is a classic, easy way to add words to almost any design. I tucked in puffy stars for visual interest and to echo the other embellishment clusters. To the right, that bookshelf image is actually the top half of a journaling tag from the August Kit, which is now serving as a label.

Various elementary-school themed words from the School Tabs Stamp subtly line the top and bottom of the patterned papers in a light gray ink. This part still feels a little unresolved to me, and I may fill in the full white space with more these words. What do you think?

Well, that’s it! I hope this layout inspires you to document a back-to-school memory about a kid in your life—or even from your own childhood. When you do, share on Instagram with the hashtag #ellesstudio or in our Facebook Group. We can’t wait to see!
