Hello, fellow scrapbookers! It’s Kim, and I’m so excited to be sharing today’s blog post! The feature is Five on Friday, and as a minimalist scrapbooker, this is just my thing! I love the way photos and story take the spotlight when I use less product. Let’s jump right in and take a look!
Supplies | August 2022 Kit, August 2022 Cut Files
I’m a firm believer that less is more. I used one of the August Cut Files and four items from the August 2022 Kit for a total of five. Cut files are so versatile! I love to use them as digital elements. In this case, I wanted to place the stars behind my title and journaling. In Photoshop, I changed the color to white, and I lowered the opacity to 50% so that the title and journaling could be seen easily. This technique digitally creates the appearance of vellum.
I created a journaling block directly onto a full page photo. I embellished the letter ‘o’ in my title with a round blue star die cut from the August 2022 Kit, and I finished off the bottom by trimming down and adhering the yellow “this was awesome” pocket tag and rounding the bottom corners.
Label die cuts are a blank slate that you can use however you like. I think they make a super spot to stamp the date, but small phrase or word stamps work great here too! You could also write or type on them. Let your picture and story help guide your creativity.
When placing embellishments, I often use this design trick: create a triangle with the arrangement of products in the design. This is a foolproof technique that creates movement and ties the page together. You really can’t go wrong with a triangle of page accents!
Five on Friday is a fabulous way to get the creative juices flowing. Choose only a handful of products, and create a simple design that is finished in a snap, shines a spotlight on your pictures and words, and stretches your supplies. I can’t wait to see what you make!
