A Beautiful Day with Tracey Fox

Patterned paper is a supply that you can use in such a creative way on your projects. Die cut it, punch it, cut it, or texturize it to your liking to make something amazing! That’s what Tracey Fox did with our newest paper stack, Beautiful Day, and she’s with us today to share what she created, based off of a fun day of game playing!

Don’t you just love 6 x 6 papers? Elle’s Studio’s 6 x 6 paper stacks are such a fun way to have lots of scaled down, coordinating patterns that look great when used together on your scrapbook pages. The latest 6 x 6 paper stack, Beautiful Day, is especially awesome! I loved using the colorful papers to create a game board look on this layout documenting a day of games and movies with my best friend for Galentine’s Day.

Supplies | May 2019 Kit, Beautiful Day 6 x 6 Paper Stack, May Labels, Play Wood Veneer Words, Everyday Goodness Epoxy Stickers, Hand Drawn Acrylic Hearts, Pink Puffy Alphabet Stickers, The Good Life Stamp

I actually started with the title when making this page so that I would be able to build a design around it and the photos. I fussy cut out the script phrase “beautiful day” from the cover sheet of the 6 x 6 Paper Stack, popped it up on some foam adhesive, and paired it with the new Pink Puffy Alphabet Stickers and the wood veneer word “play” from the set of Play Wood Veneer Words. Don’t forget to take a look at your product packaging while you create, because you never know when it might come in handy on your pages!

Once I had my title and photos placed around the page, I used my paper trimmer to cut the 6 x 6 papers from the stack into a bunch small rectangles that I arranged in meandering curves around the layout, connecting the photos to each other as if they were stops along a fun and colorful game board!

I also grabbed the fun pie chart 3″ x 4″ tag from the May 2019 Kit and used my typewriter to add the names of the games my friend and I played during our fun day. My husband Dan saw the page as I was finishing it and had the brilliant idea that I should turn the pie chart into a spinner for the game board on my page! I stamped and cut out the arrow stamp from The Good Life Stamp set and placed it in the center of the pie chart with an enamel dot on top, and I love how it added another game-like element to my project!

To add some finishing touches on my page, I used three of the Hand Drawn Acrylic Hearts and a bunch of the pretty Everyday Goodness Epoxy Stickers from this month’s release to add more color and dimension to the layout.

I would love to see how you get creative with the Beautiful Day 6 x 6 Paper Stack! I hope you’ll share what you make in the Elle’s Studio Facebook group and use the #ellesstudio hashtag when you post your projects on social media. Thanks for stopping by the blog today!

Book Review with Jennifer McMurtrey

What was the last book that you read that truly moved you? The books that you find memorable can be easily and beautifully documented with our May 2019 Kit and extras, and today Jennifer McMurtrey is with us to show us how she did that. Let’s take a look!

Hello Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Jennifer here today with a layout about a subject near and dear to my heart—reading! Since I was a child, I have read just about anything I can get my hands on. While other kids were at the pool or playing sports during the summer, I was hauling bags of books to the used bookstore to trade in on more used books. When I opened this month’s kit and saw all of the goodies focused on reading, my heart skipped a beat. I’m a total nerd and proudly own it.

In recent years, I have switched to a Kindle so I am able to read late into the night without keeping my husband awake.  While I don’t have stacks of books on my nightstand, I knew I could still incorporate everything from the May 2019 Kit and add-ons into a project.

Supplies | May 2019 Kit, Book Review Journaling Tags, Jane Alphabet Stickers – Teal, Hand Drawn Acrylic Hearts, Read Acrylic, Beautiful Day 6 x 6 Paper Stack, Everyday Phrases Vol. 2 Stamp

My layout started on a piece of 8½” x 11″ cardstock that was splattered with watered-down black distress oxide ink. Next, I added layers of papers and tags. I chose to stick with the coral and teal color scheme with black and white accents to match my photo and the Book Review Journaling Tag. To get the photo of the inside book cover, I simply did a screen shot from the Kindle app on my phone and then printed it.

The book review itself was typed on my manual typewriter. I have to confess to using a few cards before I was able to get the placement of the text correct. The stars at the bottom of the tag are painted with more watered-down ink (the same as was used with the arrow stamps).

The Read Acrylic is my absolute favorite and I placed it front-and-center along the bottom edge of the photo. Because the white disappeared into the cardstock, I used the teal Jane Alphabet Stickers to give a pop of color.

The Hand Drawn Acrylic Hearts were the final touch. I love everything about this layout and can’t wait to continue using the May 2019 Kit and add-ons to further document my love of reading!

I can’t wait to see how use this month’s kit and add-ons to create projects that capture your special memories. Be sure to use #EllesStudio when posting to social media so we can all enjoy your creations!

Sending The Good Life With Melissa Mann

Sometimes a simple sentiment and bright colors are all you need to brighten someone’s day, and the cards that Melissa Mann is here to share with us today would do just that! Let’s take a look.

Good morning, friends! It’s Melissa here with you today and I’m sharing a couple of cards that I created using the May 2019 Kit and add-ons!

Supplies | May 2019 Kit, Hand Drawn Acrylic Hearts, Beautiful Day 6 x 6 Paper Stack, The Good Life Wood Veneer, The Good Life Stamp

Both of these cards feature the same sentiment, but in different mediums! I loved the The Good Life Wood Veneer and I loved that the sentiment was also featured in The Good Life Stamp!

These two cards came together super fast! For the card using the wood veneer piece, I layered patterned paper from the Beautiful Day 6 x 6 Paper Stack on top of green cardstock; I ran a piece of light blue card stock through my Big Shot using an embossing folder. I then layered two more circles on top of this and adhered them using pop dots. I glued The Good Life Wood Veneer to the top! Super quick and super easy!

For the second card, I used the sentiment from The Good Life Stamp. This time, I placed a block of patterned paper on top of the flowered pattern paper and then stitched the green cardstock block on top of that. Before I stitched it down, I stamped my sentiment on the green paper and used white embossing powder and my heat tool to get a beautiful embossed image on the front of this card. Three Hand Drawn Acrylic Hearts finished this card off!

Now, all I need to do is slip these in an envelope and off they go to brighten someone’s day!

Thanks for stopping by!

Read The Good Life with Suzanna Lee

Everyday moments, sights and sounds in our life deserve to be recorded just like the big events, and this month’s kit and add-ons include products and themes to help us do just that. Today, design team member Suzanna Lee is with us to share how she’s documenting a common sight on her nightstand: her stack of books.

Hiya scrappy peeps! It’s Suzanna here today to share with you a project I created using the newly released May kit add ons! Each month when new kit comes out I think; “Wow! This is AMAZING!” and just when I think, “What is Elle going to come up with next to top this off?” she does just that! This month is no exception!

Supplies | May 2019 Kit, Read Phase StickersEveryday Goodness Epoxy StickersHand Drawn Acrylic Hearts, Read Acrylic, Beautiful Day 6 x 6 Paper StackThe Good Life StampEveryday Phrases Vol. 2 StampNoteworthy 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection

One of the themes that really stood out to me when I opened this month’s kit was reading and I really wanted to take advantage of that opportunity to share a part of my current life story as it relates to reading: A snippet of life in a snapshot of the books currently on my night stand. The title themselves tell a story; the story of a woman who wants better.

The Read Acrylic is the perfect title for this page. I had toyed with the idea of a longer title that would have read “Read; to create the good life”, a truer reflection of what this page is about. However, the Serif font type of “read” with the script font of stamped “the good life” (from this month’s aptly named The Good Life Stamp) didn’t really lend to yet another font type.

The Read Phase Stickers with a few of the corresponding colored Everyday Goodness Epoxy Stickers were perfect punctuations of the “reading” theme to embellish the page. The left side of the page is simple with two layered pieces of the new Beautiful Day 6 x 6 Paper Stack just released. I had cut a heart from the “innard” of the teal butterfly patterned paper which I removed to save every precious piece of these gorgeous supplies. Each of the more meaningful books on my nightstand are listed on the gray tag from the kit.

Several of the tags from the May 2019 Kit were perfect for layering on the right had side of the page. While I have been fairly transparent about my journey, there is still a need to protect the raw emotions I’m not brave enough to put out there. As such, the journaling on this one is hidden. By using washi behind the photo, I created an interactive element. Flip the photo left and the journaling is on the 3″ x 4″ tag from the kit underneath.

A simple layout, really, easily created with the goodies found in this latest release. I hope you are inspired to investigate the May 2019 kit and add ons if you haven’t already. I also hope that you are taking the time to document YOUR good life! Your story is important and you are important!

Be sure to head over to my YouTube channel to see how this layout came together. Thanks for stopping in today!

Documenting The Good Life with Guest Designer Nicole Kerr

We are so excited to welcome Nicole Kerr to the Elle’s Studio blog as our guest designer this month! Nicole’s beautiful and colorful mixed-media style caught our eye, and we knew she would be the perfect person to create with our May kit and add-ons! Let’s take a look at her first project this month!

Hello crafty friends! It’s Nicole here and I am so excited to be guest designing for Elle’s Studio this month! I’ve had the May 2019 Kit and add-ons on my desk for the last couple of weeks and I hope the projects that I create this month inspire you! Let’s jump right in!

For my first project, I’ve created a 12″ x 12″ multi photo layout.  I am the type of scrapbooker that I tend to let the product inspire me first, then find pictures later. This project is a perfect example of that.  I knew when I started flipping thru the 6″ x 6″ papers in the Beautiful Day Paper Stack and 3″ x 4″ tags in the May 2019 Kit that I wanted to focus on a teal, orange and grey theme. Those colors instantly drew me in. What also caught my attention was the “outdoor” theme found in so many of the elements this month. Once I saw those, I knew I wanted to create a multi-photo layout from my son’s recent fossil excursion with his Poppy. Here’s a quick look at my finished layout:

Supplies | May 2019 Kit, May Print and Cut Labels, May Labels, Jane Alphabet Stickers – Black, Hand Drawn Acrylic Hearts, Play Wood Veneer Words, Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers,Everyday Goodness Epoxy Stickers, Beautiful Day 6 x 6 Paper Stack, The Good Life Stamp, Everyday Phrases Vol. 2 Stamp

I chose a few patterned papers from the Beautiful Day 6 x 6 Paper Stack as well as three 3″ x 4″ tags from the May 2019 Kit.  I trimmed them all down to 3″ x 3″ squares and placed them on my white background evenly and as centered as possible. After playing with the color arrangements of the papers for a bit, I decided on keeping the darkest papers in the center “plus sign” of the page.  This helps naturally draw the eye to the center square, which happens to be where my title, “the good life,” is. This stamp came from the new The Good Life Stamp.

The darker four squares is where I chose to place my four favorite photos from this day. I used the other five squares for journaling, the date and areas to embellish. I also added quite a bit of texture to this layout without making the page very dimensional.  I did this by adding in the Hand Drawn Acrylic Hearts, Play Wood Veneer Word, thread, border punches, May Print and Cut Labels, Everyday Goodness Epoxy Stickers, Shapes and Dots Puffy Sticker hearts and LOTS of machine stitching!

I also raised my photos up on a layer of foam adhesive as well as the stamped sentiment “the world is yours to explore” from the Everyday Phrases Vol. 2 Stamp. Even though I have slightly raised and dimensional elements, this page is still very flat and will fit into a page protector nicely while giving it that added textured appearance!

Lastly, I added a little journaling on the top left square as well as a subtitle using the Jane Alphabet Stickers in black. I also added in the “happy moments documented” stamp on the top right square with a May Label to document the date. With having a lot of bold, black elements all over my page and black and white photos, I felt this helped tie everything together and complete the layout!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope I’ve inspired you to create something beautiful! Until next time, happy scrapping!

Hello friends! My name is Nicole and I’m so very excited to be here!  I’m a 30-something mama of two boys and married to my hero and best friend of 14 years. No More Leftover Kit Guilt! with Meghann Andrew

Reveal is always our favorite time of the month here at Elle’s Studio, but when I still have pieces left over from my current kit a few days before the 10th, I start itching to create! It’s Meghann Andrew with you, and today I want to share a few tips with you on how you can use up your monthly kit on a layout, and escape the leftover kit guilt!

Supplies | April 2019 Kit, April 2019 Digital Cut File, Butterflies and Flowers Puffy Stickers, Teal Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Wood Veneer Butterflies, Springtime 6 x 6 Paper Stack, Wander Stamp, Mini Dated Stamp

Cut apart your tags. Cutting your 3″ x 4″ and 4″ x 6″ monthly kits tags will help you to fit them more easily around your layout. On this page, cutting my April 2019 Kit floral and striped tags allowed me to create a fun grid! I also added the fun “Saturday” and “Sunday” file folder tab embellishments after cutting them from a journaling tag! Don’t miss out on an opportunity for embellishment by taking scissors to your tags.

Add your journaling in a new way! I used this beautiful striped tag from the April 2019 Kit to add my handwritten journaling, spanning it between the colorful stripes. Don’t just think of white space on your tag as a place for journaling. How can you add it in a different way?

Use a tag as a title starter. This “love these memories” 4″ x 6″ tag created the perfect opportunity for me to add my own words to the blank using the Teal Puffy Alphabet Stickers. I also cut 3/4″ off of the bottom of this tag, so that I could carry the same color from my title, down to the base of the layout. You can also add embellishment to your title tag using the monthly stamp, like I did here with the “simple joys” circle in the Wander Stamp!

Back your die-cut shapes! I used the Springtime 6 x 6 Paper Stack here to back the butterflies cut from the April 2019 Digital Cut File, but patterns on your monthly kit tags also work well here to use up your kit elements. Adding the same shape in a different texture adds a lot of interest, too, like I did here using the Wood Veneer Butterflies next to my die cuts.

Layer, layer, layer! Layering your monthly kit die cuts with other embellishments not only helps to use them, but also grounds your embellishment! The “loving this” Butterflies and Flowers Puffy Sticker got lost against the floral pattern below, but by adding the yellow circle die cut from the April kit, it stood out on this colorful page, and added a nice “pop” of yellow color against the blue shirt in my photo.

I loved using all of the fun colors and patterns from the April Kit and extras on this layout, and I’m happy that I made good use of the product to document a beautiful memory… before the May kit reveal!

I challenge you to make a big dent in your April 2019 Kit while you wait for you May Kit to arrive at your doorstep, and show us what you created on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio, or in our Elle’s Studio Facebook group!

Dramatic Titles with the Large Jane Alphabet and Steph Grimes

Hi everyone! It’s Steph here with a project that I can’t wait to share with you! This is one of my most favorite things I have made all year, using my favorite products of the year—the Large Jane alphabet stamps and Large Jane Alphabet Metal Die! I can’t get enough of these stamps and the possibilities of what you can create by combining and layering the stamps are seemingly endless. I gave my Large Jane alphabet stamps and the coordinating dies a good workout making this project, and you may see some sneaks of upcoming products coming in our May release!

Supplies | Large Jane Alphabet Stamp – Solid, Large Jane Alphabet Stamp – Polka Dot, Large Jane Alphabet Stamp – Stripes, Large Jane Alphabet Metal Die, Typewriter Keys Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Jane Alphabet Stickers – White

These two pages will be the opening title pages for my album detailing our cross-country road trip to the Pacific Northwest last year. I knew I wanted a big dramatic title and that the Large Jane alphabet stamps would be perfect for this! I started by printing off two scenic photos from our trip in 6″ x 8″. Then, I stamped out the words “Great Wide Open” for my title using the Large Jane Polka Dot Alphabet Stamp in aqua, dark green, and navy blue ink on white cardstock. I decided to leave the words “Into The” plain white, so I just die-cut those out of cardstock. I used the Large Jane Alphabet Metal Die to cut out each of the stamped letters for my title.

For the second page, I stamped out each of the states we visited on this trip (not counting the ones we mostly just drove through) using the Large Jane Solid Alphabet Stamp in the same colors (aqua, dark green, navy blue) using the ‘stamp-off’ method, where I stamped it first on a sheet of scrap paper before stamping on my final cardstock to make the color a bit lighter. Then, I used the Large Jane Stripe Alphabet Stamp, to stamp on top of the solid color in full color to give a tone-on-tone look to each letter. I adhered them directly on top of my photo and then embellished!

After adhering each letter down in my title for the first page, I needed to add the dates of our trip. To do this, I cut a small strip of woodgrain paper and trimmed an aqua tag as a border around the woodgrain piece. Then, I added the dates of our trip using the white Jane Alphabet Stickers for the months and the Typewriter Keys Puffy Alphabet Stickers for the dates.

I love the way these pages turned out! I was definitely looking for a dramatic title and the Large Jane alphabet stamps and Large Jane Alphabet Metal Die are the perfect products for such a thing. It did take a bit of time do to all the stamping and die-cutting, but it was totally worth it to achieve the final look!

Are you as big a fan of the Large Jane alphabet as I am? What have you made with them? Go ahead and try to make your own dramatic title using the stamps and dies and share them on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio. Happy stamping (and scrapping)!
