Documenting The Good Life with Guest Designer Nicole Kerr

We are so excited to welcome Nicole Kerr to the Elle’s Studio blog as our guest designer this month! Nicole’s beautiful and colorful mixed-media style caught our eye, and we knew she would be the perfect person to create with our May kit and add-ons! Let’s take a look at her first project this month!

Hello crafty friends! It’s Nicole here and I am so excited to be guest designing for Elle’s Studio this month! I’ve had the May 2019 Kit and add-ons on my desk for the last couple of weeks and I hope the projects that I create this month inspire you! Let’s jump right in!

For my first project, I’ve created a 12″ x 12″ multi photo layout.  I am the type of scrapbooker that I tend to let the product inspire me first, then find pictures later. This project is a perfect example of that.  I knew when I started flipping thru the 6″ x 6″ papers in the Beautiful Day Paper Stack and 3″ x 4″ tags in the May 2019 Kit that I wanted to focus on a teal, orange and grey theme. Those colors instantly drew me in. What also caught my attention was the “outdoor” theme found in so many of the elements this month. Once I saw those, I knew I wanted to create a multi-photo layout from my son’s recent fossil excursion with his Poppy. Here’s a quick look at my finished layout:

Supplies | May 2019 Kit, May Print and Cut Labels, May Labels, Jane Alphabet Stickers – Black, Hand Drawn Acrylic Hearts, Play Wood Veneer Words, Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers,Everyday Goodness Epoxy Stickers, Beautiful Day 6 x 6 Paper Stack, The Good Life Stamp, Everyday Phrases Vol. 2 Stamp

I chose a few patterned papers from the Beautiful Day 6 x 6 Paper Stack as well as three 3″ x 4″ tags from the May 2019 Kit.  I trimmed them all down to 3″ x 3″ squares and placed them on my white background evenly and as centered as possible. After playing with the color arrangements of the papers for a bit, I decided on keeping the darkest papers in the center “plus sign” of the page.  This helps naturally draw the eye to the center square, which happens to be where my title, “the good life,” is. This stamp came from the new The Good Life Stamp.

The darker four squares is where I chose to place my four favorite photos from this day. I used the other five squares for journaling, the date and areas to embellish. I also added quite a bit of texture to this layout without making the page very dimensional.  I did this by adding in the Hand Drawn Acrylic Hearts, Play Wood Veneer Word, thread, border punches, May Print and Cut Labels, Everyday Goodness Epoxy Stickers, Shapes and Dots Puffy Sticker hearts and LOTS of machine stitching!

I also raised my photos up on a layer of foam adhesive as well as the stamped sentiment “the world is yours to explore” from the Everyday Phrases Vol. 2 Stamp. Even though I have slightly raised and dimensional elements, this page is still very flat and will fit into a page protector nicely while giving it that added textured appearance!

Lastly, I added a little journaling on the top left square as well as a subtitle using the Jane Alphabet Stickers in black. I also added in the “happy moments documented” stamp on the top right square with a May Label to document the date. With having a lot of bold, black elements all over my page and black and white photos, I felt this helped tie everything together and complete the layout!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope I’ve inspired you to create something beautiful! Until next time, happy scrapping!

Hello friends! My name is Nicole and I’m so very excited to be here!  I’m a 30-something mama of two boys and married to my hero and best friend of 14 years. I work in the Accounting and Marketing field by day and scrapbook and paint by night. After being introduced to the card making community about 9 years ago, my love for scrapbooking was found and has continued to grow over the years. I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to inspire others thru my visions, creations and love of color. Never be afraid to show the world what it is that you create. There is no right or wrong…just be you!

Come back next week to see Nicole’s next project using the May kit and extras! Until then, check out her latest projects by visiting her blog and Instagram feed!
