No More Leftover Kit Guilt! with Meghann Andrew

Reveal is always our favorite time of the month here at Elle’s Studio, but when I still have pieces left over from my current kit a few days before the 10th, I start itching to create! It’s Meghann Andrew with you, and today I want to share a few tips with you on how you can use up your monthly kit on a layout, and escape the leftover kit guilt!

Supplies | April 2019 Kit, April 2019 Digital Cut File, Butterflies and Flowers Puffy Stickers, Teal Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Wood Veneer Butterflies, Springtime 6 x 6 Paper Stack, Wander Stamp, Mini Dated Stamp

Cut apart your tags. Cutting your 3″ x 4″ and 4″ x 6″ monthly kits tags will help you to fit them more easily around your layout. On this page, cutting my April 2019 Kit floral and striped tags allowed me to create a fun grid! I also added the fun “Saturday” and “Sunday” file folder tab embellishments after cutting them from a journaling tag! Don’t miss out on an opportunity for embellishment by taking scissors to your tags.

Add your journaling in a new way! I used this beautiful striped tag from the April 2019 Kit to add my handwritten journaling, spanning it between the colorful stripes. Don’t just think of white space on your tag as a place for journaling. How can you add it in a different way?

Use a tag as a title starter. This “love these memories” 4″ x 6″ tag created the perfect opportunity for me to add my own words to the blank using the Teal Puffy Alphabet Stickers. I also cut 3/4″ off of the bottom of this tag, so that I could carry the same color from my title, down to the base of the layout. You can also add embellishment to your title tag using the monthly stamp, like I did here with the “simple joys” circle in the Wander Stamp!

Back your die-cut shapes! I used the Springtime 6 x 6 Paper Stack here to back the butterflies cut from the April 2019 Digital Cut File, but patterns on your monthly kit tags also work well here to use up your kit elements. Adding the same shape in a different texture adds a lot of interest, too, like I did here using the Wood Veneer Butterflies next to my die cuts.

Layer, layer, layer! Layering your monthly kit die cuts with other embellishments not only helps to use them, but also grounds your embellishment! The “loving this” Butterflies and Flowers Puffy Sticker got lost against the floral pattern below, but by adding the yellow circle die cut from the April kit, it stood out on this colorful page, and added a nice “pop” of yellow color against the blue shirt in my photo.

I loved using all of the fun colors and patterns from the April Kit and extras on this layout, and I’m happy that I made good use of the product to document a beautiful memory… before the May kit reveal!

I challenge you to make a big dent in your April 2019 Kit while you wait for you May Kit to arrive at your doorstep, and show us what you created on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio, or in our Elle’s Studio Facebook group!
