Documenting a Favorite Story with Katarina Prevendarova

We love seeing you use your favorite pieces from our monthly kit and add-ons to create beautiful things, and today, for her first post as a new Elle’s Studio design team member, Katarina Prevendarova is sharing which products are her favorite, and teaching us some fun ways to use them with a new layout! Let’s see what she created!

Hi friends! It’s Katarina here with my first blog post for Elle’s Studio! Let me begin with saying how excited I am about 2020 bringing me this chance to work together with super talented crafters, and play with the most amazing products to bring you some crafty inspiration!

When I saw the January kit and extras for the first time, I immediately knew I would use it a lot to scrap photos of my husband and son, as it was all about love. Here I decided to scrap a cute photo of these two from our autumn weekend hike.

Those who know me also know that I really love stamping, and since one of my favorites from this month’s add-ons was the Love You Lots Stamp, I wanted to do some stamping on the background. I took both heart stamps from the set and chose to use my favorite technique: stamping on a white background and heat embossing with a transparent powder. That way the white background stays “conserved.” Next, I used a dry brush and made a bunch of horizontal strokes with gray watercolor paint, which immediately made my white hearts pop against the background.

Tip: If you want your stamped pattern to be nice and shiny, you can use a rubber eraser to lightly erase the paint remains.

My other favorite product was the Little Moments Leatherette Stickers. I used them for my title together with the Valentine Multi Color Puffy Alphabet Stickers.

On the opposite side of the layout I created a little cluster of embellishments to place a label with date. I felt like adding a pop of yellow to brighten up the layout and for that I grabbed a yellow acetate heart from the Magical Memories Acetate Die Cuts and yellow hearts from the Puffy Autumn Heart Stickers. To nest the cluster I tore a part of the white background paper and backed it with the gray heart and dot pattern from the Love Is 6 x 8.5 Paper Stack.

To complete the visual triangle I created a vellum pocket in the bottom part of my layout. To better ground the pocket, I added brush strokes at the base with gray watercolor and placed a black and white hearts sticker from the I Adore You Stickers under the pocket which hides a tag I made for my journaling.

Tip: I only wrote a general sentence on the front and placed the main story on the back side of my tag, that way my journaling stays private.

And that’s about it friends! I hope I inspired you to go and play with your monthly kit and add-ons or try the fun heat emboss/watercolor technique with the new Love You Lots Stamp. Don’t forget to share your projects with us on Instagram by tagging #ellesstudio. We love to see what you create!
