The December Kit in Pockets with Kristina Proffitt

Hi friends! It’s Kristina here to share a pocket page with you using some of the great goodies in the December kit and add-ons. This pocket page isn’t your typical December pocket page—it’s actually a page that I did to document some photos taken at the end of October and November. One of the things that I love and tell people over and over again is that the versatility of Elle’s products are just amazing. I’m going to show you some ways that I used the December products this month to work for me, even when I’m not doing typical holiday/seasonal projects.

Supplies | December 2020 KitGood Cheer Printables, Joyful Chipboard Stickers, Winter Wood Veneers

This pocket page spread is all about a laid back season of rest for my family. I wanted to document a page that shared some photos of the things we were doing during this time because we had slowed down our pace a bit and how much we were enjoying it.

One thing a lot of people forget about are the wonderful digital files that Elle offers every month. The “PURE MAGIC” tag that you see above on this page is one of those digital files from the Good Cheer Printables. The really cool thing is that you can add your journaling directly onto the tag (which is so easy and helps because the card I was going to use before this… let’s just say that I botched the journaling on it when I printed it!) and I even changed the color of the card from grey to this yellow that’s in the kit. I love how easy it is to edit the digital files and make them your own. See—even more versatility!

I really loved using the Joyful Chipboard Stickers on top of the photos and even though my date stamp didn’t quite get the entire year on it, I’m ok with it. I also used another one of the Good Cheer Printable tags to add the journaling that you see above. I wanted to add a bit of the blue to the card and so I make the border around the journaling box blue. I love how it turned out and it was so simple. Then I just added the journaling, printed out the card, cut it out and there ya go!

Something else that I love to do is layer embellishments. Taking a die cut label from the December 2020 Kit and adding a fun wooden embellishment from the Winter Wood Veneers to the top is an easy & fun way to add some dimension to your page. The die cut labels are so versatile, too! I have so many of them and they always come in handy for me when I’m wanting to layer some embellishments, add a smidge of journaling to a photo or even the date or location!

I also love cutting the die cut elements in half, just like you see here with the half circle heart shape. It’s actually a circle die cut, but remember, there are no rules, so play around with your embellishments! Cut things up, layer them and have fun. I loved the way the half circle heart looked above the wooden Winter Wood Veneer embellishment on top of the photo.

I hope this pocket page has shown you even more ways Elle’s products are so versatile and fun to use no matter what season you’re scrapbooking. Here’s to documenting our stories and using our products! Praying you and your families have a season full of joy this month and into the new year, friends.

2020 Family Favorites with Nathalie Leonelli

Hello, Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Nathalie here to share a pocket page created with the December 2020 kit and add-ons. I will also show you how I have played with this month’s printables!

Supplies | December 2020 KitGood Cheer Printables, Comfort and Joy StickersJoyful Chipboard Stickers, Stitched Stars Wood Veneer, Happiness & Cheer Stamp, My Star StampJane Alphabet Stamp

This page, which will be the last one in my family album, is a look back at this year inspired by the two ‘2020’ tags from the kit. I love how tags with journaling prompts can help you tell your story, so I sat down with them and took a moment to reflect.

I considered the black bold ‘2020’ in those tags, the colors in my photos and decided to create a monochromatic page. I got the idea of switching some of the Good Cheer Printables to black and white. It was very easy using only Microsoft Word. Note: You will not get the same effect if you just print your color tags to black and white.

First, import the tags you have chosen into a Word document. Then, click on each one, go to the “Picture Format” tab on the top bar, open the drop-down menu of the “Color” icon and select the black and white one option. That’s it! And I love the result!

And what goes well with black? Stamping, of course! I combined the two new sets, Happiness & Cheer and My Star on my title tag, even stamping on selected chipboard letters from the Joyful Chipboard Stickers.

I don’t consider myself a hybrid scrapbooker, but playing with the Good Cheer Printables like this was simple and fun so I’ll probably do it again! I hope you will try this technique too!

Happy Holidays! May your 2021 be filled with joy and good health!

Sketch Day with Suzanna Lee

Hiya, scrappy peeps! It’s Suzanna here today! Today I’m sharing with you a new sketch and day nine of my Document December album, inspired by the sketch. Documenting and memory keeping tends to be rather Document December focused for me during the holiday month. This particular sketch is perfect for that purpose. Well, part of that. Keep reading, you will see what I mean by such a qualifying statement.

Here’s the sketch:

This my interpretation:

Supplies | December 2020 KitGood Cheer Printables, December 2020 Cut FilesComfort and Joy StickersJoyful Chipboard Stickers, Green Acetate Alphabet, Dark Red Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Christmas Basics 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper StackFa La La 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Happiness & Cheer Stamp, Holiday Noted StampMy Star Metal Die

I used the sketch to inspire part of the whole day’s documenting; the part about the kittens and their relationship with the Christmas tree. This is Luna and Jasmine’s first Christmas and thus, first experience with a Christmas tree. They tend to have a naughty streak so we assumed, wrongly, that they would be in the tree. Luna likes to nap under the tree while Jasmine prefers her gnome blanket beside the tree.

I used the overall idea of the sketch by using two of the three columns, one for either side of the spread. This spread is actually the inside of a fold out, right hand page. I created my own Silhouette digital cut file (which you can download for free from my Instagram profile!) The nature of the fold out was perfect for the two columns: one for each kitten.

I created a tag for each kitten that fits into a vellum pocket. Each tag topper is the top part of a 3″ x 4″ tag; the green from the December 2020 Kit while the red is from the Good Cheer Printables. The photo overlays this and the journaling about each kitten’s tree preference in the back. The tag is then topped with overlapping die cut stars, cut using the My Star Metal Die. Each vellum pocket is then decorated with die cuts found in the kit, chipboard from the Joyful Chipboard Stickers and a color-corresponding puffy alpha. Simple!

While unrelated to the sketch, the day wouldn’t complete without the “opener” with the date and the introduction to the theme of the day, our Christmas tree. I used the awesome Green Acetate Alphabet number nine to indicate the date with the inside of the tree tag from the December 2020 Cut Files, a 3″ x 4″ tag from the kit and the Happiness & Cheer Stamp, mixed with the tree from the Holiday Noted Stamp. The row of greens stamped with two hues of green, mimicking the stand of trees from the top left of the journaling tag is so easy to do, yet provides a powerful punch to the finish of this spread.

Here’s a closer look at the stamping;

I do have a process video that will be up on my YouTube channel should you want to watch how everything came together!

For the Love of Stars with Jen McMurtrey

Hello, Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Jen here today sharing a project created with the new My Star Stamp and My Star Metal Die, which are quickly becoming a go-to staple in my craft stash. I love the versatility they provide when I am crafting and that they can be used on any type of project.

It isn’t often that we are all together as a family (especially these days), so I make sure to snap lots of photos when we are. This picture of my daughters makes my heart so very happy—there is a nine-year difference between the two, but you’d never know because of how close they are.

Supplies | White Typewriter Cardstock Alphabet Stickers, Navy Acetate Alphabet, Christmas Tiny Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers, Jewel Polka Dot 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, My Star StampMy Star Metal Die, Large Jane Alphabet Metal Die

For this project, I used smooth, white cardstock for the background that I stamped with the My Star Stamp. Per usual, I had a completely different look in mind when I started the layout but am happy with how it turned out. I used three stamps to create the larger stars and followed those with smaller ones around the outer edge of the stamped images.

Because I wanted to keep the color scheme simple, I chose to back the photo with clear vellum before adhering it with foam squares. This gives it a bit of depth without being to overwhelming.

The My Star Metal Die were next, and here is where I tried to get fancy. Recently, I purchased “shrinky dink” die cut paper and had yet to use it, so I figured now was as good a time as any. After cutting one of each of the three sizes of stars, I stamped them with embossing ink, and coated them with white sparkly embossing powder. Next, I heat embossed each star – this was tricky because I didn’t want the stars to lose their shape. It took a few tries, and more stars, but I was finally able to get the look I wanted. These three stars were topped with white die cuts and adhered with foam squares.

The title came next, and the Navy Acetate Alphabet was perfect! I also used the Large Jane Alphabet Metal Die to cut white letters to back the acetate title. This allowed me to use foam squares without them showing through. Above and below this, I added the same word to emphasize the title using the White Typewriter Cardstock Alphabet Stickers.

To complete the layout, I cut several blue and gray stars using the Jewel Polka Dot Paper Stack and placed them around the photo with a few puffy dot stickers. Last, I typed the journaling using my manual typewriter, cut it into strips, and placed them in the bottom-right corner. I noticed later that the date strip is crooked, but that just gives it character.

I love the limited color scheme on this project, and with the black stamped background, it is quite striking against the photo of my girls.

Thank you so much for stopping by today, and I hope you’ve been inspired to create! Remember when using Elle’s Studio products to use the hashtag #EllesStudio when posting to social media so we are sure to see your amazing work!

Reflecting on the End of 2020 with Steph Grimes

The end of the year is nearly here and this is a time when many of us begin reflecting on the year we are leaving behind and making plans for the year ahead. Well, it is an understatement to say that this year has been just plain crazy, but nonetheless, there have been some good moments. Today I want to share with you a project I completed using the December 2020 Kit and extras to help me focus on the good things 2020 brought to us.

Supplies | December 2020 KitComfort and Joy Stickers

This 6” x 8” spread came together pretty quickly with a couple of my favorite photos of my family from the year and the 2020 themed components of the December Kit. I used the 4” x 6” “2020 pause and reflect” and the 3” x 4” “2020 favorites” journaling tags to hold my thoughts about the ups and downs of this year and some of our favorite things to come out of the year.

On the left page, I used in the “Let It Shine” 3” x 4” filler tag from the December Kit, adding a phrase sticker from the Comfort and Joy Stickers. I also added the “smile” die cut from this month’s kit to carry over the circle design from the right hand page.

I really loved the blue and colorful striped 3” x 4” tag included in the December Kit and decided to embellish it with die cut circles to match nearly each color line in the card. I am really happy with the finished product and simple look.

So there you have it, a simple and straightforward way to capture some of your thoughts and feelings about one of the hardest years of our lifetime. The prompts on the journaling tags really helped me to focus my thoughts and get them written down without laboring over all the things that happened this year. If you are looking for a quick way to capture some of your year-end reflection, I highly recommend these tags from the December 2020 Kit.

I also just wanted to take a minute to share that this will be my last blog post for the Elle’s Studio design team. After two wonderful years on this amazing team that Elle and Meghann manage, I am sad to be leaving the team, but hopeful for what will come next in my lifelong memory keeping journey. It’s been a true honor and pleasure sharing stories and pages with you all over the last two years! Happy scrapping!

Monochromatic Moments with Katarina Prevendarova

Hi Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Katarina here again and today I am going to share a fun traveler’s notebook spread featuring the gorgeous and festive December Kit and add-ons. I am still catching up on my December 2019 documenting and there have been again so many pretty and inspiring products in my December box that putting this spread together was really easy.

Supplies | December 2020 Kit, December LabelsComfort and Joy StickersJoyful Chipboard StickersGreen Acetate Alphabet, Christmas Basics 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper StackFa La La 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Happiness & Cheer Stamp, Christmas Tabs Stamp, Everyday Tabs Stamp

My idea was to create a monochromatic layout with pops of one other color. I went for green as there are so many beautiful green elements among the December products. This is a great way to jump start your creativity when you’re overwhelmed by your stash of goodies. I started with choosing two patterned papers – obviously green – from the Fa La La and Christmas Basics Paper Stack for my background. On the left side of my spread I placed a piece of white cardstock over a part of my patterned paper to create some white space for stamping and other elements.

I used one of the pretty journaling tags from the December Kit to add my notes and used the Happiness & Cheer Stamp to create something like washi tape stripes in green and grey colors.

On the right side, I used another journaling tag from the kit to place my title, for which I used the Green Acetate Alphabet. I always love when we have a new color of these – they are so amazing for titles!

I placed the photo of my little son from our Christmas presents unboxing over the journaling tag and embellished it with a sticker from the Comfort and Joy Stickers, one of the December Labels and the “Oh what fun!” Joyful Chipboard circle. To finish off my spread, I fussy cut a couple of stripes from one of the journaling tags and added them to both sides of my layout together with two of the Joyful Chipboard asterisks.

It is always so much fun to create a monochromatic layout! I hope you give it a try with your December 2020 kit and add-ons. Thank you so much for stopping by today, have a wonderful day!

Sketch Day with Tracey Fox

I just love Sketch Day, don’t you? Elle’s Studio makes the best sketches you can adapt to any format and in tons of different ways to help tell your stories. Today, I’m sharing a layout I made using the December kit and extras with this sketch:

Even though you can always choose sketches for a specific number of photos, you can also adapt them to meet your needs for however many photos you want to include on a page. The sketch shows three possible spots for photos, but I selected 5 photos of my hockey-obsessed nephew opening and enjoying his hockey-related presents at Christmas last year, and I printed two of them  at 3” x 4” and the other three at 3” x 2”.

Supplies | December 2020 Kit, Comfort and Joy StickersJoyful Chipboard StickersGreen Acetate Alphabet, Dark Red Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Stitched Stars Wood Veneer, Christmas Basics 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper StackFa La La 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack

To work in the same 6” x 8” photo block as shown in the sketch, I selected four 3” x 4” tags from the December 2020 Kit and arranged my photos on top of them. I love how the tags add extra color, a sentiment, and an image to the photo block for added interest!

To create the background as it appears in the sketch, I selected two neutral patterned papers from the Fa La La 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack and placed them so that they spanned the page from top to bottom. For the banner shown in the sketch that stretches behind the photos, I chose two bolder, colorful patterns from the same stack. Rather than layer them right on top of each other as the sketch shows, I offset them a bit more, because I wanted to show more of both patterns, and I liked the extra movement it seemed to add to the page.

Next, I grabbed the new Green Acetate Alphabet and the Dark Red Puffy Alphabet Stickers to create my large title across the top of the layout. I just love Elle’s Studio’s acetate alphas, and it’s especially great how they match the Large Jane Alphabet stamp series, because you can mix and match them on your projects.

I planned to use stars as my main embellishment for this layout, because they fit really well with my “hockey star” theme, and because I was excited to use the Stitched Stars Wood Veneer. The sketch is great for guiding you where to place a visual triangle of embellishments or embellishment clusters on the page, but once I pulled out the wood veneer stars and fussy cut more stars from one of the tags from the December Kit, I had enough embellishments to spread across the page in a diagonal band instead. I love the movement this adds to the page, and since I had used white cardstock for my background, it didn’t make the page look too busy. I love knowing I can use this sketch again and again and embellish the pages differently each time to make it take on a new look!

To finish up the layout, I included a few more embellishments from the Comfort and Joy StickersJoyful Chipboard Stickers, and December Kit, and I added some strips of typed journaling to tell my story. Thanks to this sketch to guide me, I love how this turned out, and I can’t wait to add it to my holiday album!
