Setting Up 2021 For Success with Patricia Roebuck

Creating the introductory pages in your 2021 album is an important step to putting a plan in place for how you will document the year, and today Patricia Roebuck is with us to share her gorgeous album beginnings, created using our new 2021 products. We can’t wait to see how this takes shape next year!

Hello end-of-the year Elle’s Studio friends! We are all ready for 2021, so today I will be walking you through how I have my new 6″ x 8″ pocket page album set up, as well as how I organize and gather my photos. I’ll be using many different products, but the new 2021 products, now available in the shop, are what I will focus on the most.

2020 has been a year of stretching me beyond what I thought I was capable of. First off, I wanted to start my album with a 6″ x 8″ opening page featuring my word of the year, “bold.”  Using the Bright Polka Dot Paper Stack and a new metal star die, hitting the shop tomorrow with the December reveal, I created my background. I use the positive and the negative of my die cut stars and then backed the blue polka dotted paper with the yellow, trimming the blue paper a little smaller to add stitching at the bottom and a peek of the yellow as a border at the bottom. Next, I added the acrylic stars from the Acrylic Christmas Trees, Acetate Months, Small 2021 White Acrylic, and the white Jane Tile Alphabet Stickers. On the reverse side of this page, I will add a New Year’s Day photo!

I love the look of layers and with pocket pages, there’s so many page protectors that allow me to add more layers to my album. After my opening page, I used a new Monthly Highlights 3 x 8 Inch Journaling Tag, which I adhered to a page strip to insert by itself into my album. This year will be a busier and life-changing year for me, so this new product will really help me jot down the details so I don’t forget. I do use a monthly calendar that I mark up quite a bit, but after I go through all those entries on my calendar, I can take what I want to remember and highlight them here.

The next page protector I set up is a traveler’s notebook size of about 4×8, and I added the January 2021 Calendar tag. To add additional color and texture to this tag, I used the Acetate Stars and then the green, blue, and red ink to stamp “2021” from the Daily Tabs Stamp. My bottom pocket uses the brand new Pocket, Frame, and Flip Up and the Extra Frames Metal Die. I used the top of my pocket to adhere a 3″ x 4″ photo under my cut out frame, then used the Collected Stamp and Everyday Tabs Vol. 2 Metal Die to allow you to lift up.  Under that, I used the Noted Vol. 2 Stamp for my journaling lines, then added my typed journaling. 

My last pocket page, a 6″ x 8″ page with two 3″ x 4″ and one 4″ x 6″ pocket, features a November 2020 Kit tag at the top left which I added stamping to using the Notes from Today Stamp. In the top right pocket, I used the Pocket, Frame, and Flip Up, Extra Frames and Everyday Tabs Vol. 2 Metal Dies. I added the stamped and die cut “pull here” using the Collected Stamp and Everyday Tabs Vol. 2 Metal Dies stapled to the extra frame I cut from my first flip up pocket. I used a leftover die cut star and a Monthly Cardstock Sticker to finish.

My number one tip for keeping up with documenting is organizing your photos. I upload from my phone regularly and I add the year, month, day and a brief description. I compare to my calendar, and then go through the photos needed for the week, or a story I want to tell and print my most favorite photos. No matter how busy life gets, keeping this system up for the past 11 years has worked for me. Here’s a look at what my filing system looks like.

I hope these ideas to start documenting in 2021 set you up for success and make it do-able and enjoyable. For me, my photo organization is key, and then the Elle’s Studio 2021 products make it so easy to put together. Whether you use an app to collect your information or another system of your choice, keep doing it, then grab your Elle’s Studio products and enjoy documenting 2021!

November #EllesStudio Spottings on Instagram

We loved checking out the #EllesStudio hashtag this month, and six paper crafters used it to share how they were getting ready for holiday memory keeping projects, and documenting everyday memories, too!

On the left, Tonya (@prettylittlepocket) shares how she documented December 1st using some of our Document December goodies. How cute is that Santa hat? On the right Ronelia (@ronelia.creative) is showing off the inside cover of her December album, and we spotted our December 2020 Acrylic and chipboard from our Document December Kit. What a pretty way to start out an album!

This paper backed die cut, featuring our Fa La La Paper Stack is just wonderful on the front cover of Sarah’s (@shedocumentslife) album. We also love how she accented it with our Red Puffy Alphabet Stickers! On the right, Mandy (@mandy_reedyk) is showing off all of the pockets she created using our Pocket, Frame, and Flip Up Metal Die, ready to go into her December album. What a great way to get prepared!

The last two project are full of colour, and we love the way that they both used our products! On the left, Andrea (@modernmemorykeeping) created one sunny spread in her notebook using our Autumn Puffy Rainbow Stickers. Document December Inspiration: Week 01

Happy December! We are so excited about the beginning of this month not only because it marks the start of the Christmas holiday, but also because we get to start sharing the amazing Document December 2020 projects that our design team has created! Today we’re so excited to share these gorgeous traveler’s notebook spreads, pocket pages, mini albums and a layout! Let’s take a look!

Marsha Farris

Marsha is creating a beautiful traveler’s notebook using our Document December products recording her gorgeous Christmas tree. We love how she used our Pocket, Frame and Flip Up Metal Die to record the details about her tree underneath her “in-process” photo!

Jess Forster

Sitting on Santa’s lap: is there a more iconic Christmas photo than this? We love the way that Jess recorded this special moment, and the “let your heart be light” tag from the Document December Kit is just perfect for her spread.

Amanda-jayne is using a mix of textures at the beginning of her album, in a soft and pretty way! We love her pom pom trim, and her sweet decorated wood veneer tree from our Document December Kit. Creative Cardmaking Day 3: Christmas Cards from the Heart with Melissa Mann

The final day of our Creative Cardmaking series combines two of our favorite dies in the shop: the My Heart Metal Die and Layered Card Metal Die, and Melissa Mann is showing us how to create a lovely, layered card design, perfect for showing someone how much you care this holiday season!

Hello, friends! This is Melissa here with you today to share two new greeting cards that I created using the November add ons!

I really loved the My Heart Metal Die and My Heart Stamp that was released recently and wanted to incorporate that into my cards. I actually ended up using the “negative” and the “positive” of this heart die cut. I love being able to use up pieces of paper from a project!

Supplies | Document December Kit, Christmas Basics 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Fa La La 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, December Memories Stamp, My Heart Metal Die, Layered Card Metal Die, Labels Metal Die

For the first card, I used the new Layered Card Metal Die to cut out the blocks of patterned paper that I was using to build the base of my card from the Christmas Basics and Fa La La Paper Stacks. I used the My Heart Metal Die to cut out the stitched heart on the red card stock block. I measured out a piece of vellum and a piece of clear acetate that would fit behind the die cut heart and stitched them together while leaving the top unstitched. This allowed me to dump in some glitter and sequins before stitching the top closed.

I used the December Memories Stamp and Labels Metal Die to create the sentiment for my card. I had used gold sequins in my confetti pocket and decided to use a gold embossing powder to use on my stamped sentiment. Once all my pieces were cut out, I adhered everything together. I loved the touch of gold on this card!

For my second card, I wanted to carry on the gold embossed detail and created my own background using the round stamps “Joy” and “Magic” from the December Memories Stamp, using both gold and rose gold embossing powders. I layered a piece of vellum over the top and placed the striped square of patterned paper and the interior of the red die cut heart on top. I also embossed the “filled with joy” sentiment on the red heart with gold powder. 

The new Layered Card Metal Die really helped speed up the process of making these two cards, making them a super easy card to mass create for the holidays! You could speed the process up by simply completing the stamping with ink only!

Creative Cardmaking Day 2: Holiday Inspired Cards with Candace Perkins

Some of our newest products in the shop were designed to make card making quick and easy—no trimming or measuring required, and no searching for the perfect greeting for your card front! Today, design team member Candace Perkins is putting some of those products to use on her card duo, and allowing traditional Christmas iconography inspire her to get artistic, too! Let’s take a look!

Hello, Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Candace here to share with you a few quick cards perfect to send during the upcoming holiday.

We all know that the holiday season can be a busy time of year.  I always find myself searching for a last min card to attach to a present or a plate of cookies.  I love the collection of Elle’s Studio holiday goodies that helped me create these two quick cards and allow me to easily mass produce cards by using the layered card dies.

Supplies | Happy Holidays Card Front Tags, Fa La La 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Christmas Basics 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Very Merry Chipboard Stickers, Layered Card Metal Die

For the first card, I wanted to make use of the pack of Happy Holidays Card Front Tags. By combining the cards and the layered card die I can create a whole stack of cute holiday cards in a breeze!  I was able to vary the colors of the papers and Happy Holidays Card Front Tags and add different embellishments to give each card its own personal touch. 

For this card, I used dimensional adhesive to pop up the different layers. On the top layer, I wrapped a piece of plain twine around the Happy Holidays Card Front Tag and finished it off with a cute signature Elle’s Studio heart. Simple, easy to duplicate and heartfelt. 

For the second card I wanted to play off the idea of the Christmas star. I used the Layered Card Metal Die to cut a piece of watercolor paper just smaller than the card base. Next I used various watercolor inks to create a night sky.  To create a blurry effect I splashed bits of water and white paint on the watercolor card front. 

To create the stars I die cut different stars using the Christmas Basics and Fa Paper Stacks. For the one special star, I wrapped it with plain twine and popped it off the background using dimensional adhesive.  I love the final result!

Creative Cardmaking Day 1: Merry Layered Cards with Amanda Baldwin

Hello friends! It’s official! December is here, and the time to share handmade kindness is upon us. With all of the things we have to do to prepare for the holiday season, you may think that you don’t have enough time to create a handmade card, but today our design team member Amanda-jayne Baldwin is here to prove you wrong! Let’s take a look at how she created beautiful, layered cards in no time with our newest metal dies!

Hi Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Amanda here, and boy oh boy do I have the most beautiful Christmas Cards to share with you! 

And, the best part? 

They’re super quick & easy to re-create! Thanks to the new Layered Card Metal Die you’ll be able to whip them up in a matter of minutes! This new die is game changer! But enough chatter, here’s the clean & simple cards for you:


Supplies | Document December 2020 Kit, Very Merry Chipboard Stickers, Wonder Wood Veneer, Fa La La 6 x 8.5inch Paper Stack, Christmas Basics 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, Layered Card Metal Die, Pocket Frame & Flip Up Metal Die

To create these cards, I simply trimmed my first sheet of cardstock into two  5″ x 8″ pieces, scored and folded at the 4″ mark to create to white card bases. For my two larger cards, I trimmed the cardstock into two 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″  pieces, and then scored and folded at the 4 1/4″ mark.

Elle’s Studio suggests that you, “use the dies to cut your layers, then add your sentiment and you have a beautiful card created in no time! You could also use this die to create shaker cards, add wood veneer or stamped sentiments, and MORE!” That’s exactly how I made my sweet and simple cards! No fancy tricks, or time wasting with measurements—the amazing Layered Card Metal Dies did all the hard work for me!

The fabulous  Layered Card Metal Die made cutting a mix of pattern paper layers for my cards a dream! The dies cut so quickly, and with such precision! Between you & me, I’m partial to the faux stitched metal dies—no more machine stitching, but the same authentic look! Yay! Time (and maybe even a little patience) saving at it’s best! I just loved the combination of the Fa La La and Christmas Basics Paper Stack papers together, and when layered with the Document December 2020 Kit tags, well, I think the results speak for themselves! SO pretty!

The super cute Pocket Frame & Flip Up Metal Die was perfect for adding tabs to my slightly larger cards, and those polaroid style frames to my smaller ones.

To add more interest, I foam-mounted a couple of my card layers, and then added a few carefully chosen embellishments for finishing touches. I loved the pink and red cards, but I couldn’t resist a lil Christmas green too…

The same card design, just a mint and forest green color palette. So elegant! 

Doesn’t that faux stitching look amazing?! And let’s not forget that scallop die—so intricate and yet it still cut through the paper like butter! LOVE!
