The Sweet Life: A Layout

Today I wanted to share with you a layout I made recently featuring the Sweet Life collection (now available in our shop!)

This photo of my daughter and her friend is one of my favorites.  They are wearing butterfly wings during their ballet practice.  I wanted to recreate the translucent feel of the wings with vellum stars floating across the page.

I used pattern paper from Studio Calico’s Heyday line, which looked wonderful with the Sweet Life tags!  I love how Elle’s Studio tags work well with so many paper lines!!

One of the things I love most about this collection (and all of Elle’s tags, really) is that they can be used for titles, layering, stamping… anything.  it’s so versatile and will enhance whatever style suits you.

Make sure to stop by the shop and check out the new Sweet Life collection!!

This sketch is inspired by Becky’s Made in the Shade layout from the DT gallery.

I love all the layering going on here. The papers, buttons and stickers… so much fun!

Grandma and Grandpa’s Flower Garden Mini Book

I had so much fun making this little mini book – my mom had taken all these photos and when I saw them I knew they had to be scrapbooked. For the base of the mini book, I used our 4 x 6 journaling tags from The Sweet Life and our Summer Lovin’ collections.

Then, to add a smaller page, I used a 2.5 x 3.5 Note Tag from The Sweet Life collection, and backed it with a photo.

I had a lot of extra photos that I wanted to keep, so I added an envelope and put the photos in it. Then, I folded the extra flap over and glued one of our 3 inch circles over the flap (but not getting any glue on the flap) so it would hold the flap closed, but we could still open it up and take the photos out.

This was such a fun project to work on, and I can’t wait to give it to my grandparents for a special surprise!

Project Life

This week’s Project Life covers the week of July 30-August 5.

Last week I mentioned looking back at past weeks in your Project Life album and noting a few things  you love.  One thing I enjoyed looking at from the past year was current events that I included in my Project Life week.  It’s really cool to see a mix of what’s going on in the world and news next to what’s going on with my family.

So for this week I added a few current events in my Project Life album.  First, obviously, is the Olympics!  I documented the Olympics a few different ways–  first I made the Olympic rings from retired Elle’s Studio tags that I still had in my stash!  I used various lined circle tags and punched the center of the tag using a 2″punch.

And guess what? Elle made these circle journaling tags into a printable file and they are now available in the shop!  You can print these immediately for all your Olympic documentation! (and they are classic journaling tags that can be used over and over in Project Life!)

The printable lined circles can be punched out with a 2 inch punch, and if you want to punch the center out to create the rings, I would use a 1.75 circle punch.

I also documented the Olympics by added the cover of USA Today featuring Gabby Douglas the day after her individual gold medal.  I also journaled a bit about what my kids were saying about the Olympics and their interest level.
On the backside I included the sports section of the newspaper.  I love the swimming photo!  I used a 12×12 page protector to hold the newspaper but trimmed it slightly and adhered it with washi tape.  There is a paper clip to help hold it in place.
I used quite a bit of The Sweet Life collection in this week’s Project Life spread– which is NOW AVAILABLE in the shop!

Project Life

This week’s Project Life covers the week of July 23-29.

I did a little experiment this week as I was creating this week’s layout.  I decided to open up my Project Life from earlier this year to enjoy it, relive it, and gain inspiration.   As I was looking through my Project Life I began to take mental notes on what I loved about certain weeks and why.
I noticed I LOVED the weeks where I balanced everyday moments and “what we did”.  I loved the inserts.  I loved when I included current events.  I loved the weeks I included memorabilia.  I loved when I used my instax camera.  I loved when I “got real” in my journaling.  I loved it when I stamped.  I loved when I made lists of things that went on that week.  I loved seeing my husband’s handwriting.  I loved when I included photos from different angles.
Looking back on my Project Life was just what I needed for inspiration today.  It was so inspiring to actually SEE what I liked and think of ways to include that in upcoming layouts.   SO… my challenge to you this week is to look back at your Project Life and list all the things you LOVE about your album!   (and by the way, did you know I started Project Life in August of last year– on the first week of school?)  Anytime is a great time to start Project Life.

This week I used LOTS of Elle’s The Sweet Life and the new Stamps coming out next week!!!  You are going to love them!

Behind-the-scenes!

It feels like Christmas around here! All the new tags have arrived, along with the stamps, too! We are packing up a storm and getting all our wholesale orders out and getting prepared for the BIG launch next Monday, August 27th! But, you may be able to pick them up at your LSS or favorite online store before then 😉

If you follow us on instagram (user name: ellesstudio ), you may have already seen these fun peeks we posted, but just in case you didn’t, we wanted to share them here, too!

I love the way it looks when all the tags are lined up and waiting to be slipped into their bags!

And, these stamps are looking great! We tested them out last week and can’t wait to see what you guys make with them!

Speaking of making things… I couldn’t resist playing around with the new tags coming out next Monday, and ended up putting together a mini album with the 4 x 6 tags as the base. Can’t wait to share it with you next week!

Hope you are having a wonderful summer!
