PROJECT LIFE TRAVEL: CUTTING DOWN THE PHOTOS

This week’s Project Life covers the week of June 2-8… our vacation week to Disney World!

Image 13

This summer I am switching up my Project Life format.  I decided the 12×10 page would be a great fit for summer (this spread is using Becky Higgins Design G pages). I have to be honest. I am not used to that 6×4 spot– but I am up for the challenge, and I have found some other great pocket pages that fit this size.

Image 15

Documenting a big vacation in Project Life is hard.  I took about 2,000 photos this week between my DSLR and iPhone.  How do you cut down to just a few photos to document the week?   I decided to pull the photos that told the best story– and that’s not even necessarily my favorite photos from our trip.

Image 12

It was hard to cut down.  But what I kept in mind was what stories I have been verbally sharing since we’ve been home with friends and family.  That was the highlights.   I am already planning to document this trip in an album of it’s own, so I felt free to just give a glimpse, and call it done.

Image 14

As you can see I added very little journaling.  I used the numbered card from Shine Journaling Tags to include our favorite memories, and I called it done.   I could add a thousand stories onto this spread.  Leaving it clean (and knowing I could go in depth later in my travel album) allowed me to feel like I could complete this spread!

Cards

Today I’m sharing a couple of cards I made with our Exclusive Monthly kit.

here comes the sunshine card

This card just fell together very easily. I started with the ‘Here comes the sunshine!’ card, added glitter to some of the sun rays then added even more rays in the background with embroidery floss.

summer captured card

Here I cut the Pie Chart Circle Background, trimmed it and clustered the pie charts inside the ‘Summer Captured’ frame. I stamped the title in vellum and used a label to make it stand out a bit. Finally, a little butterfly with bright yellow candy dots added just the perfect summery touch.

ELLE’S STUDIO SUPPLIES USED:

PROJECT LIFE

Today I am sharing my cover page for my Summer Project Life Album.Image 16

I decided to switch things up a bit and try an 8×11.5 album for my summer documentation.  I am REALLY excited for the change– it seems to be the perfect size for documenting the summer.

Image 13

I used Elle’s Studio’s new SHINE collection to create this grid page– which is very similar to my 2014 cover page I posted in late December.   I keep three albums per calendar year.  One for January- through late May (last week of school), a summer album, and a late August (first day of school) until New Years Eve album.  This has seemed to work very well for us the last three years of documenting with Project Life.Image 15

I used bits and pieces of Elle’s new SHINE collection in this cover page.  It’s beyond perfect for summer documentation.   The page protector I am using is slide projector pages from Archivers– they are the 8×11.5 size.

IMG_5604I am so very excited for this new temporary design layout, and hope you follow along with my summer documentation!

Capture Life :: Lens Flare

Shooting your subjects around dusk or shortly after dawn can yield beautifully back lit images that are highlighted with stunning lens flare. (That’s not to say this is the only time of day this look can be achieved because as long as the sun isn’t directly above you, you can get the flare results.)
I simply prefer to shoot at these times because I love the golden light it gives me.

IMG_0933Lens flare is when light enters the lens and hits the digital sensor. Where the lens flare falls on your image depends on where you stand in relation to the sun as you take the photo. The above shot places the sun just peaking over the roof of the barn and coming more straight at my lens, while the below image is moved to the side a bit thus resulting in flare to the left of the image.

IMG_0921Getting down low and allowing the sun to peak over top of your subject or just slighting to one side is something fun to play with. The results are unique and beautiful!

IMG_0906 IMG_8817 two-vertical-imagesDo you have the love for lens flare like I do? I’d love to see some of your shots pop up in our member gallery today!

Creative Space Tour with Valerie Bishop

Today we get to share with you our design team member, Valerie Bishop’s, creative space! She was so kind to give us a full tour, let’s take a peek and see what she has to say about her space, too!

Valerie says: “First, I have a tall table so that I can stand – I don’t like sitting and creating, I like walking around. I also like having everything in front of me, so a lot of my embellishments, tools, and supplies are all sitting on my table so they are right at my fingertips and I can remember to use them up. I like to store my items in unusual little containers. I have a thing for small wooden boxes and I have several filled with items….”
087-(1024x683)

“I found an old cutlery box at an antique store with beautiful red graphics that I store my Letterpress stuff in, an old wooden toolbox with lots of storage space filled to the brim, and a small wooden box that I store my smaller Elle’s Studio bits and pieces in.”
042-(1024x683)035-(1024x683)132-(1024x683)

“I love containers with little compartments to store and separate all my little bits and pieces so that I can see them to use when I am creating. I find if I can’t see my things, then I forget to use them, or it takes me an hour to find that little piece that would be just perfect. My favorite places to look for containers are thrift store, flea markets and antique stores. I try not to spend more than $5 on a piece.”
056-(1024x683)107-(1024x683)110-(1024x683)119-(1024x683)

“I keep all of my Elle’s Studio products on a little wooden table right next to my work table so I can grab it any time when I am working on design team projects. I have most of the embellishments stored in a couple of metal containers with the little bits in the wooden box. I keep all of my papers in a plastic box to protect them as my scraproom is my sunroom in my house and there are 3 walls of windows. I don’t want the papers to get faded by the sun!”
141-(1024x683)142-(1024x736)

“I got these two spinning racks at Harbor Freight – they were black and I spray painted them. I can store so much stuff on these and the colors and products on them just make me so happy to look at!”
0782-(683x1024)

“I got this pair of metal file racks at a flea market for $10! They were an ugly brown color, but I painted them inside and out and use them to file miscellaneous items that I don’t use very often.”
160-(1024x683)
We love your space, Valerie! Thank you so much for sharing it with us today!
