PROJECT LIFE

Today I am sharing the week of June 9-15th in my Project Life album.Image 2

I mentioned last week that I am changing the format to a smaller album for the summer.  I am loving this different size and the overall change.  It has challenged me to think about my photos and everything I include in my album.  The vertical 6×4 space is still somewhat challenging to me, but I have found it’s a great place to put “found items”, journaling, and instagram photos.

For this spread, I used a combination of Shine products and the June 2014 kit.

I also really focused on including those “extra items” from the week.  My kids were all about the library reading program, so I included the cover of the brochure.  I added dental floss packaging since they had their dental check ups, along with clothing tags from a summer shopping trip.   I received a post card in the mail from my church and I decided it was the perfect item to add journaling about my dad for Father’s Day.

Sometimes I have to remind myself that a photo isn’t necessarily the ONLY item to document with– it’s fun and challenging to add those “extras” and allow it to tell your story.

Creative Spaces Vol. 3 blog hop

CreativeSpacesVol3_Cover_WEBHello and welcome to the Creative Spaces Vol. 3 Blog Hop! I was beyond thrilled when asked to be part of this magazine – I’ve always loved reading this magazine and seeing all the amazing creative spaces included in it, so it is a dream come true to be included in this issue with some incredible company. I’ve probably read and re-read the magazine five times since I received it. It is full of amazing ideas and inspiration, and it is so fun to peek into other creative spaces!

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes peek at my room when the photographer came out to shoot the photos for the magazine. I share my craft space with my at-home office and bedroom, which is such a treat for me because it means I can bring work home to catch up on and I enjoy working late into the evening. You’ll often find a mix of projects on my desk for myself and Elle’s Studio.Elle-RoomYou can check out a sneak peek of the inside of the magazine here, and you should be able to find the magazine on store shelves any moment! But, we also get to give one away to you today!

Mixed Media Monday : Dripping Watercolors

Today we are playing with watercolors! They are possibly my favorite paint medium to play with, because they provide so many different uses.

I love the bright bold colors in this months June monthly Tag Kit. So I set out to use the 4×6 card with the multiple color boxes along the top. In fact, I loved this kit so much I ordered two! There are just too many tags & cards that I needed multiples of! EllesStudio-JuneKitIMG_8395For the technique I simply added a heavy brush load of watercolor paint along the bottom of the colored square …
IMG_8401and while holding the card vertically, I blew on the puddle of painting allowing it to flow down the card… IMG_8403Each time continuing with a different color.
IMG_8400I did a bit of custom mixing to create a close match, but that was the fun challenge part! It brought me back to art school for just a bit. Hee! IMG_8405Once the cards were dry I inserted them into my Project Life album. I paired them with a series of black and white photos because I loved the contrast between the two sides!IMG_8406This is such an easy technique to use to create something unique in your scrapbook! How cool would this look as a background to a Birthday card? Hmmm… now there’s a thought; maybe a single drop of each color on the end to create an abstract candle of sorts? I’d love to see how you guys use this technique! Be sure and share with us HERE in the Members Gallery!

Product Spotlight :: This Week Labels

Whether you’re adding a date to your Project Life album, traditional layout or project, these are the perfect unique label for the job! And you simply can’t beat the price! Hello $1.00!!! Add a bunch of these puppies to your next check out cart!IMG_0809I have been wanting to do some sort of a chort chart for my boys and now that we are three weeks into summer break it’s a must do! No more arguing about who did what chore last.

So, I gathered a few of my favorite stamps sets, washi tape, and lil snippets labels from the new Shine collection to pair with the “This Week Labels“.IMG_0317They come in black & white or color!
two-vertical-imagesThe idea was simple : Use the Cameron Alphabet Stamp set to stamp the day of the week, add the chore of the day, decorate the back (do that it still looks pretty when they flip it over as the chore is completed), and bring back a bit of peace to the household! 🙂
IMG_0302I have two boys so that’s why there are two separate sections. They were super excited when I added the “Saturday & Sunday” cut out from the Shine collection because they knew it meant no chores for those days. LOL! IMG_0303 IMG_0306 IMG_0307 IMG_0309I can’t wait to see what you all do with these super affordable labels! Be sure and share with us in the Member Gallery!

Happy Creating! ~Megan
