Traveler’s Notebook Update with Suzanna Stein

You can use our monthly exclusive kit in any documentation format, but there’s only one that you can take with you on the go to record the here and now of life: traveler’s notebooks! Design team member Suzanna Stein is with us today to share how she’s created two spreads in her TN, using our latest kit. Let’s take a look:

Hey friends, it’s Suzanna here! I’m so excited to be sharing a couple of layouts that I created with the September Kit and add-ons! It’s been a little while since I shared a traveler’s notebook layout, so today I’m sharing two with you today! I am absolutely in love with the colors in this month’s kit and used them for inspiration in my layouts.

For the first layout, I used a bit of every color in the kit, plus lots of layers! I chose two 2″ x 3″ photos and used fun, patterned journaling tags from the September Kit to back them. I layered those on top of the blue patterned 4″ x 6″ journaling tag that I trimmed down to fit my page better.

I layered die cuts from the kit to embellish, along with the September Labels and Here and Now Stickers. I stuck with my embellishment clusters, as I usually do, but added lots of layers among them. Then, I finished the layout with a messy border.

For the second layout, I went with a more simple color palette and love the muted, fall vibe it gives! Again, I layered my photo on top of a journaling tag from the September Kit, then placed it on a 4″ x 6″ journaling tag that I trimmed to fit my page.

Using the white Hazel Alphabet Stickers, I created a title along the top of my photo. I cannot get enough of the Hazel alphas! I could seriously use them everywhere.

Along the bottom of the photo, I added a cluster of embellishments, including die cuts from the kit and the Spring Puffy Heart Stickers. Then, of course, I added more Here and Now Stickers. They’re so good and the phrases apply to so many areas of life!

On the left side of the layout, I layered a couple of journaling tags on top of each other as a space for my notes on this story. I added my date, and finished the layout with splatters of gold craft mist and a messy border.

I hope these two spreads give you a little inspiration on how you can use your September monthly kit and add-ons in your traveler’s notebook, or any smaller non-pocket layout. This month’s kit was so fun to play with and I absolutely love the way these layouts came together. Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Baseball Memories in Pockets with Candace Perkins

Tags in our September 2018 Kit, along with our Go Team Journaling Tags and Wood Veneer work perfectly to document your favorite game days—whether they’re football, basketball, or baseball—what design team member Candace Perkins is recording today with a gorgeous pocket page. Let’s take a look!

Hello! Welcome back to the blog for a little pocket page inspiration. This month there are so many fabulous journaling tags to chose from in the September Kit, Go Team Journaling Tags and the fun Notes from Today Journaling Tags! For my layout, I chose to mix tags from all three collections to create a fun page all about a family night at the ball park. Here is a look at the final layout:

Supplies | September 2018 KitNotes from Today Journaling TagsGo Team Journaling Tags, Here and Now Phrase Stickers, Letter & Number Stickers — BlackGo Team Wood VeneerGood Eats Wood Veneer, Right Now Stamp

I thought it would be fun to create a monochromatic color scheme to balance out the bight colors in the baseball photos. I chose all blue, black, and white cards from the September Kit to create a nice seamless and balanced page. Using the black Letter & Number Stickers, I added a title on the blue patterned 4″ x 6″ tag from the September Kit, along with the score to the final score tag from the Go Team Journaling Tags—my new favorite!

I love the new Here and Now Phrase Stickers and thought they would be the perfect touch to the layout. By adding the phrase stickers in three places across the page, I was able to create a visual triangle for balance. The stickers have the perfect sentiments for any of your stories or memories and popping them up on foam squares help to make them stand out.

For my final touch, I added a few wood veneer pieces from the Go Team and Good Eats Wood Veneer. I love that they match the theme of the layout! A wood veneer bat and ball—can it get better than that?!

Every month I love the kits and embellishments more and more, and each month I am inspired to tell my family’s stories in new and different ways. Recording and documenting these memories and moments is what memory keeping is all about! What stories will you tell with all the journaling tags and extra goodies this month? We can’t wait to see!

One Product, Three Ways: Hazel Alphabet Stickers

Our newest alphabet stickers in the shop are called Hazel, feature a typewriter font and come in both white and light purple! Three of our design team members were challenged with using them on three different projects, in fun and creative ways! Let’s take a look:

Andrea | The Hazel Alphabet Stickers give such a fun and interesting look to titles and even journaling! I used them in this layout for a title as well as for a list of different nicknames for our puppy.

I love being able to either line them up nice and straight or make them wonky and tilted. I even used my tiny attacher to add a quick embellishment to a few of the words. They are so fun and versatile!

Amanda | I just adore the Hazel Alphabet Stickers! I couldn’t resist using both the white and the purple varieties on my layout, and they were perfect for documenting my daughter’s love of desserts!

Pardon the pun, but isn’t this the sweetest?! I used those fabulous Hazel Alphabet Stickers as both a border trim on my white cardstock, and as washi tape strips on my vellum sheet.

I alternated colors between each story descriptor, mainly names of her fave desserts, and also use the stickers in my ‘the story of dessert’ title. I also added the word ‘yum’ repeatedly for a faux washi tape look. I hope my layout has given you a few different ideas on how to use these fabulous Hazel Alphabet Stickers!

Daniela | The Hazel Alphabet Stickers work perfectly to add custom greetings to any card! I created these two simple, yet layered cards with the Noteworthy collection, which coordinates perfectly with these alphabet stickers.

I added the Hazel Alphabet Stickers in white and light purple to each card front, spelling a long sentiment and machine stitched the letters to the card front for added texture. To embellish these fun greetings, I hand cut hearts from the Noteworthy 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack, machine stitching them on, too, and finished with puffy heart stickers and sequins from my stash.

Play in Pockets with Heather Leopard

Do you have a lot of photos from a fun day to document? Don’t create multiple layouts! Document them all at once using pockets! Heather Leopard is with us today to show us how she did just that, to tell the story of her daughter’s school field day, using our September Kit and add-ons. Let’s take a look.

Hi everyone. It’s Heather Leopard here, challenging myself to create more pocket pages. I just love creating these since each piece is like a mini blank canvas. Plus, they’re great for inserting these into albums when you have lots of photos you want to use to tell a story. This particular spread is all about field day at my daughter’s school.

I chose to use four 4″x6″ photos and four 2″x3″ photos.  To get started with this double pocket page, I placed my photos around the page to see what I was working with and then grounded it by opening the page with a blue 4″x6″ tag from the September 2018 Kit and ending with another blue 4″x6″ tag that I created with a pattern from the Family Fun 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack. Once that was set, I was off to work on page one.

Our field days are split into some partner activities and commences with team activities.  I chose to create the spread as such. For this page, I chose to focus on photos that told more of the story of my daughter and how much she loved the experience. This is all about the story of field day and the Story Acrylic made for a perfect title along with some White Puffy Alphabet Stickers and Jane Alphabet Stickers in navy.  I added bits from the September 2018 Kit die cuts and the Wood Veneer Phrases to add a bit of extra character to the tag.

I added the word FUN using the Family Fun Puffy Stickers. The Hazel Alphabet Stamp was calling to be used, so I stamped words that made sense to follow “Fun”—fun day, fun times, fun friends!  The Hazel stamps stamp so nice and clean, but I chose to use distress ink to give it a grungy look, since we were playing outside in the dirt and water most of the day!

Next, I pulled in the pink and darker pink diagonal card from the September 2018 Kit. It’s pre-printed with “TODAY IS” and then there’s a great spot to write, type or stamp in an open space, but I chose to use the Hazel Alphabet Stickers to say “today is awesome.” Lastly on this page, I chose the colorful, dotted 4″x6″ tag from the September 2018 Kit and using the Hello Happy Puffy Words, I added “you are,” above the label and then added what I think about this photo of her pouring water on herself on this very hot—way too cute!  I used the navy Jane Alphabet Stickers again, which were a perfect fit in the label.

Moving to the next page, I chose to focus the photos on all the teamwork part of field day. These are the highlights of her class and how hard they worked for their victory.

The banner tag from the Celebrate Journaling Tags I used here was perfect for this spread!  They resembled sports pennants, so I added her teacher’s name below using Black Puffy Alphabet Stickers, and their team name along with a die cut banner from the September 2018 Kit .  For the tag below, I chose the “game on” tag from the Go Team Journaling Tags and popped up a banner die cut below, leaving room for journaling.

Next, I hard a nice open space in the field part of the photo of my daughter practicing. I added Hazel Alphabet Stickers to fill in that open space, reading “practice makes perfect.” Then to coordinate with the colorful polka dot tag on the other page, I included another one on this side with a slightly different design.  This could easily serve as another journaling spot, but I chose to embellish with the Go Team Wood Veneer, Little Photo Flag Stickers, Here and Now Phrase Stickers and a few puffy embellishments that coordinated with the colors of the card.

Thanks so much for joining me today.  I hope you have an amazing day!

Creative & Colorful Pocket Pages with Guest Designer Jen Wong

We are super excited to introduce our September guest designer, Jen Wong (a.k.a. circle plus arrow) with you today! Jen’s clean and graphic style with pops of bold, bright color always catch our eye, and her stamping is always fantastic! Just take a look at how she made this pocket page spread fantastic with her use of our newest stamps and September Kit and add-ons:

Hi everyone! My name is Jen Wong and I’m so excited to be the guest designer for Elle’s Studio this month. The September Kit and add-ons have such a great mix of colors and the versatile embellishments were so easy to work with!

For my first project, I documented a day trip that I took with my family to L.A. I thought the bright colors in the monthly kit paired well with the colorful photos I took on this trip.

Supplies | September 2018 KitPuffy Heart Stickers — Summer Mix, Puffy Heart Stickers — Spring Mix, Jane Alphabet Stamp, Right Now Stamp

I always start with the photos—selecting a mix of people, some of the exhibits we saw at the museum, and food. I then selected some tags from the monthly kit which had colors I saw in the photos: yellow, green, and red.

Stamps are one of my favorite things to play with and I used the Right Now and Jane Alphabet stamps to create some fun filler tags. On the yellow 3″ x 4″ tag, I used both stamp sets to stack some sentiments. Adding a green puffy heart completed this card and brought my three colors together.

I also used the Right Now Stamp to add the “Love This” circle multiple times on a 3″ x 4″ piece of white cardstock. I stamped the “Here + Now” sentiment as well, and added the spring and summer mix puffy hearts over the black stamped ones in the center of the circles to bring in some color. Finally, I wanted to stamp “Exhibit Highlights” as a title on the 3″ x 4″ tag with the red label, but it wouldn’t fit in the space, so I masked part of “exhibit,” stamped with the Jane Alphabet Stamp and stamped the word  “highlights” from the Right Now Stamp over it in red to make it fit!

I love to include ephemera where I can, so I cut a 3″ x 4″ piece of one of the paintings my daughter did and used it in a 3″ x 4″ pocket. We had stamped the gallery name while there so no other stamps were needed and since I can’t get enough of puffy hearts, I added a couple more. We were also given small square stickers to wear and show that we paid our admission while walking around the museum. Since I had saved those, I adhered one to the photo of the balloon dog sculpture. There is actually a security guard standing next to the sculpture so this little sticker works as both an embellishment and a way to cover up the distracting person!

Lastly, I printed my journaling on the 3″ x 4″ tags from the monthly kit using my computer. The 3″ x 4″ tag with the colorful circles on the left side reminded me of finger paint dots which was perfect for telling the story of us painting in the children’s gallery. I like to keep my pocket pages fairly simple and finished with adding a few of the die cut labels from the September Kit onto a few of the photos for captions.

I love how the pages turned out! I’ll see you next week, when I share another project with you!

I’m Jen Wong and I live in San Diego with my family. I started scrapbooking several years ago as a way to document the traveling I was doing in mini albums. When my daughter was born, my desire to pair stories and photos together only intensified, and I started creating on a regular basis so I wouldn’t forget everything as the time flew by! I love how this hobby lets me tell the stories behind the photos and remember the everyday moments.

When I’m not playing with paper, I can be found developing software, swimming in the ocean, running up the trails, and spending time with my family. You can find more of my work on Instagram and on my blog!

Wow! Thanks so much for inspiring us today, Jen! Your pocket page spread is so beautiful! Until she returns to the blog next week to give us more inspiration using the September Kit and add-ons, be sure to follow Jen’s links above to more stunning pocket pages and traveler’s notebook spreads!

Kill Your August Kit with Melissa Mann

Do you still have bits and pieces left of your August 2018 kit? Well, the September kits will be shipping next week, so why not take a cue from designer Melissa Mann and use up those leftover tags and die-cuts on a fantastic, layered layout, like the one she’s sharing with us today! Let’s take a look:

Hello and good morning! This is Melissa with you here, and I’m sharing a project completed with the leftover pieces from my August 2018 kit and add-ons.

I loved the stamp sets that were released last month and really wanted to incorporate them into my layout. I decided to create a background using acrylic paints and various elements from the Good Job and Noteworthy stamps!

Supplies | August 2018 Kit, August Print and Cut LabelsAugust Blank Label StickersLittle Photo Flag StickersWhite Cardstock Alphabet StickersLight Gray Cardstock Alphabet StickersABC Wood VeneerPurple Puffy Alphabet StickersGood Job StampNoteworthy StampFamily Fun 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection

To start creating my layout, I used an old gift card to swipe acrylic paint on the background grid paper, taken from the Family Fun 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection. It just takes a small amount of paint to create a block of color using the side of the gift card. I chose four complimentary colors found in the August 2018 Kit to create four blocks.

Once the paint dried, I used my stamps in corresponding colors to stamp over the paint. I discovered that the ink took a minute to dry on top of the paint. I used a paper towel to soak up some of the left over ink and it gave it a sort of distressed look. Once the ink had dried, I started layering some of the 3″ x 4″ tags from the August Kit and then placed my photo on top. I stitched these blocks of tags and pictures down using my sewing machine.

Then came the fun part! I used the Little Photo Flag Stickers, August Blank Label Stickers, and various alphabet stickers to further embellish my page. I wanted my title block to stand out and was looking for something fun to put my title on top of and I decided to use the ABC Wood Veneer. I cut it in half and swiped some white paint on top to mute it just a bit. I then placed some August Print and Cut Labels on top and used the Purple Puffy Alphabet Stickers to create my title. I layered a few more bits around it and stamped phrases around it.

The last thing I did was type up a few labels using the August Print and Cut Labels with the age of each of my siblings and myself and typed one with the “siblings” hashtag to include on the title block.

Thanks for stopping by today and taking a peek at what I created! I was glad to finally find a fun way to scrapbook these pictures that my brother took of the three of us earlier this year, and also to use up the leftover pieces of my August kit!

A Let’s Go Traveler’s Notebook Update with Meghann Andrew

What ongoing paper crafting projects do you have to wrap-up? Design team member Meghann Andrew is sharing hers with us today—a traveler’s notebook about a trip from 2017, which she’s documenting with our Let’s Go Traveler’s Notebook Kit. Let’s see the progress that she’s made.

Hey there! It’s Meghann Andrew with you today, and today I’m sharing my third installment of my Seattle 2017 traveler’s notebook. In case you missed them, you can also find post one and post two here on the blog! I continued day three of our trip with an entry about a glorious adult-only date night!

On the left side, I had to include photos from an amazing ramen dinner that we had, and the “eat well, travel often” wood veneer banner from the Let’s Go Traveler’s Notebook Kit went perfectly here. I lined up all of my embellishments in a column with my photos, starting with the stamped passport rectangle at the top, then the “date night” label, and my journaling, which I journaled and printed from the August Print and Cut Labels.

On the right page, I backed the page with a piece of tissue paper that I saved from the beautiful Starbucks Roastery, adhering it with a thin layer of liquid glue. On top, I added my photo using dimensional adhesive on three sides only, leaving the top open to tuck in the coffee labels from the bags that we purchased that evening. The “happy place” sticker from the Let’s Go Stickers in the kit was perfect for this chilled-out locale.

Now to day four of our trip, when I got to hang out with our fearless leader, Elle Price! We had a great day, and took one selfie together, so I had to add that to the left side. I scanned in the background paper (my absolute favorite from the Let’s Go Traveler’s Notebook Kit) and typed out my journaling before printing directly on the paper. In the line below my plane, I added “hello Elle” using the cardstock stickers from the kit and the Stanley Jr. solid and outline stamps.

The “yay!” sticker from the Play All Day Phrase Stickers and the “I can’t even” sticker from the Let’s Go Traveler’s Notebook Kit were perfect for adding above my title. This meet up was the best part of our trip!

My third spread is all about a day spent sightseeing in Pioneer Square in Seattle. I started out with the ruled green paper on the left side, and stamped “location” and the recorded arrow from the Let’s Go stamp, included in the kit, at the top. Below it, I added “Pioneer Square” using the blue cardstock stickers. I then scanned in the page and added my typed journaling in Photoshop Elements before printing it out. On the right, I created an entire sheet of photos in a grid. I then stamped the arrows in different colors on a scrap piece of smooth cardstock, and adhered them at different lengths to the photos. Numbers that I added to the journaling on the left side corresponded to the numbers that I added to the arrows on the right, so that the photos matched up with my journaling.

To join the two pages together, I added the “in the city” sticker to the green label in the Let’s Go Traveler’s Notebook Kit, then cut it, so that the label spanned both pages. Next, I added a thin strip of orange washi tape to draw your eye across to the photos, and the awesome wood veneer plane, to further that sense of movement. The date, stamped in light green on the light green background, and the “day _ of _” sticker below finished off the page.

I am almost finished with this traveler’s notebook that I love SO much! Stay tuned for the finale of this project. What past trips can you document easily with our beautiful, packed Let’s Go Traveler’s Notebook Kit and Traveler’s Notebook Insert? We would love to see what you create!
