Creative Ways to Use Your Stamps with Steph Grimes

Stamping is such a great technique to create custom embellishments, sayings, titles and more on your projects, and Steph Grimes is here to share some ideas on how to get creative with them! We know you’ll love these ideas, as well as the patriotic project that she’s sharing using our July 2019 Kit and extras!

Hi everyone! It’s Steph here and I’d like to share a layout with you that uses the new July 2019 Kit and extras. For this project, I had this adorable photo of my pup and our “nephew pup” Benny in their patriotic hats from 4th of July. I was really inspired by one of the 3” x 4” tags in the July 2019 Kit that had a few star banners running across it and had the idea to replicate this with the line of stars stamp from the You Are My Sunshine Stamp. That was the starting point for this layout, and it lead me to think of all the ways I could use the stamps on this layout. Today I’d like to share a few of those ideas with you!

Supplies | July 2019 Kit, 4th of July Puffy Stickers, You Are My Sunshine Stamp, Large Jane Alphabet Stamp – OutlineLarge Jane Alphabet Stamp – Stars, Large Jane Alphabet Stamp – Solid, Large Jane Alphabet Metal Die

1.  Mix and Match and Layer Them Up

One way to use your stamps to create interesting looks and effects is to mix and match and layer them together. Here, I used the Large Jane Alphabet Stamps (solid, outline, and stars) to create a visually interesting title. I used multiple colors that matched my layout to create each letter in the title, but I also could have used one or two colors only and achieved a totally different look! The Large Jane Alphabet Stamps lend themselves perfectly to this creative use of stamps, especially with so many awesome coordinating sets, but I also did some stamp layering along the edge of the layout with the “enjoying this” phrase from the You Are My Sunshine Stamp. What stamps do you have in your stash that you can mix and match and layer to create new unique looks?

2.  Try Second and Third Generation Stamping

This technique is a great way to add a little interest to your layout! Multi-generation stamping is when you ink your stamp and stamp it once, then stamp it again multiple times without re-inking. The effect is that each time you stamp the image or words show up lighter and lighter. I love to use this technique with sentiment and phrase stamps to really drive home a message. BONUS: I also mixed this technique with the first and did my multi-generation stamping layered on top of a graphic stamped image!

3.  Reconfigure Your Stamps

I’ve been stamping for a long time (about 18 years!) and stamp manufacturing has come a long way in that time! When I first started stamping, stamps were all rubber, mounted on wood blocks, and this technique was simply not possible with wood-mounted stamps. However, many stamps now are manufactured as clear acrylic stamps which makes it easy as pie to reconfigure and manipulate your stamps to create new looks.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, I was inspired by the tag in the July Kit with the star banners running across it. I wanted to recreate this look on my page, but didn’t want to fussy-cut those stars out of the tag. The You Are My Sunshine Stamp includes an awesome straight line of stars that I knew I could manipulate to make my banners. When I mounted the clear stamp to my clear stamping block, I just bent it into a curved shape, like so:

This allowed me to stamp my banners just as I wanted to and when I was finished, I put my stamp back into the envelope as it was originally! For other ways to reconfigure your stamps, you can add multiple stamps to a single block or cut stamps apart and use them separately to create new images. This last method is definitely permanent, so it’s not my favorite option, but if you’re brave, go for it!

What are your favorite ways to use stamps? I hope you will try some of these techniques on your upcoming projects and share on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio to let us know how it goes!

Punching Out Fun with Ashley Laura

Our July reveal is tomorrow, but have you had a chance to use all of the last bits and pieces from your June kit and add-ons? Don’t fret! Just grab a few punches and get to work with the inspiration that design team member Ashley is sharing with us today!

Hey everyone! It’s Ashley here with fun project focusing on using up those scraps from your June kit and extras. One of my go-to ideas for using up scraps is pulling out my tools! I decided to create a 12″ x 12″ layout, and mainly focus on using some of my favorite punches.

Supplies | June 2019 Kit, Summer Phrase StickersSummer Puffy Stickers, Summer Wood Veneers, Magical Memories Journaling Tags, Magical Memories 6 x 6 Paper Stack, Magical Memories Puffy Stickers, Magical Memories Fun Times Acrylic

You may love the patterns and color schemes of the pocket tags included in the monthly kits, but sometimes we have an overflow after we’ve completed our pocket projects. I love to cut these up and use them in unconventional ways. This “Soak Up the Sun” 4″ x 6″ tag from the June Kit was the perfect card to punch out a square to have my photo peeking through!

I also love to cut pieces from tags that could serve as an anchor for journaling. The “summer playlist” 3″ x 4″ tag included several journaling spots to create a list. I simply typed on the orange labels and cut them out to add the details of this day around my layout.

One of my favorite tools is the circle punch. Oh my beloved! They’ve been around for a while, but for me, they’ll never get old. I used this punch on several patterns from the Magical Memories 6 x 6 Paper Stack and tags in the June Kit to add some fun little movement around the page. I also cut a few smaller icons from the tags to tuck around the larger circles.

For those of you who have tons of journaling tags and patterned papers and you’re unsure of how to use them, go ahead and get out those forgotten tools to create something new!

Show us how you used your June kit and extras in your projects! Post on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio, or in our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group !

Cheerful Summer Cards with Nathalie Leonelli

Our newest puffy embellishment stickers, the Summer Puffy Stickers, are bright, cheerful, and perfect for any project—greeting cards included! That’s what design team member Nathalie Leonelli is sharing with us today. Her cards are sure to brighten the recipients’ day, and you can easily re-create them to send to your own special friend!

Hello, it’s Nathalie wishing you a happy 1st of July! I am back again so soon because I was excited to share with you the greeting cards I created with the Summer Puffy Stickers released with the  June Kit and extras. With a bright mix of words and summery icons, they are perfect for memory keeping and for this season’s happy mail!

Supplies | June 2019 Kit, Summer Phrase Stickers, Summer Puffy Stickers, Magical Memories 6 x 6 Paper Stack

For both of my cards, I combined the Summer Puffy Stickers with tags and die-cuts from the June Kit, the Magical Memories 6 x 6 Paper Stack and not much else. Everything matches so well!

For this first card, I cut three favorite tags from the June Kit, keeping just the main features of two of them and combining them to make one long card front.

The puffy stickers are here to add dimension. I even placed some popsicle puffy stickers right on top of the drawn popsicles on the card. The sentiment was created by matching the “life is good” puffy sticker with the “summer starts now” die-cut from the June Kit. This card turned out perfect for a teacher friend!

The second card started with the idea of placing the sunglasses on top of the sun. Does it look cool? It works nicely with my sentiment, which I found on the Summer Phrase Stickers and layered on top of a few labels.

I finished with some Summer Puffy Stickers puffy heart outlines— I love them so much I would take a whole pack of them—and some machine stitches.

This feel good card would for sure brighten anyone’s day, but you could easily adapt it (just like the first one) into journaling tags for your pocket pages!

As you can see, the Summer Puffy Stickers are so much fun and I hope to have inspired you to play with them! Whether you use them in your memory keeping, to create cards, tags or more, be sure to add one or two packs to your basket before they are gone if you haven’t already!

Magical Memories Outside of the Park with Candace Perkins

You may think that our Magical Moments collection was created to document only one event—a day at your favorite Disney theme park, but think again! Today Candace Perkins is showing us how she used it to document a family dinner in a simple and beautiful way! Let’s see what she created!

Hello friends! It’s Candace here today to share a fun everyday layout featuring the Magical Moments collection. Did you know that you can use this Disney-themed collection for your everyday memories?! Absolutely! I love challenging myself to use my supplies and collections in new and different ways. For today’s layout I created a two-page 6″ x 8″ layout all about a fun family dinner night out.

Supplies | Magical Memories Journaling Tags, Magical Memories 6 x 6 Paper Stack

I printed out photos of our family from the fun night out, and I even printed out a fun poster from the restaurant to add to the theme and feeling of the spread. I love the color and interest it brings to the spread!

Using the Magical Memories Journaling Tags, I cut up elements to create a custom tag for my journaling.  By creating my own tag, I can manipulate the colors and themes in the collection to match the everyday story I am trying to tell.

For the title card, I cut a the striped patterned paper from the Magical Memories 6 x 6 Paper Stack to 4″ x 6″.  Next, I created an embellishment stack in the center of the title card using a tag, label, and sentiment strip from the die cuts included in the Magical Memories Journaling Tags, choosing colors that match the theme and feel of the spread.

I added a the “yum!” banner die cut to the top of the poster photo. I love this little touch!  A fun spread all about a fun night out with the family.

How will you use the new Magical Moments collection to tell your everyday stories?  I can’t wait to see!

Title Builder Possibilities with Patricia Roebuck

We designed our popular Title Builder products to make creating project titles quick and easy for you, but our design team has found so many creative ways to use them, and we know that this post from Patricia Roebuck will have you looking at your Title Builder stamps in a completely different way with her amazing project! Let’s take a look!

Hi, Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Patricia here to share a traveler’s notebook spread combining the Title Builder Stamp, Title Builder Vol. 2 Stamp, and… the brand new Title Builder Vol. 3 Stamp! These stamps are essential to anyone needing an economical way to create titles and subtitles, but for today’s post, these stamps will create not just a title and subtitle, but also the base of my project in an unexpected way!

Supplies | Title Builder Stamp, Title Builder Vol. 2 Stamp, Title Builder Vol. 3 Stamp, June 2019 Kit, Summer Phrase Stickers, Summer Puffy Stickers, Wood Veneer Stars, Family Acrylic, Beautiful Day 6 x 6 Paper Stack

At first glance, these stamps allow amazing ways to combine titles, cool typography, words and phrases perfect for memory keeping, but have you noticed the other images also available in these sets? In the Title Builder Stamp there are rows of dots, asterisks, and greater-than signs. The Title Builder Vol. 2 Stamp and the new Title Builder Vol. 3 Stamp have images as well. All of these illustrations, along with the words and phrases, sparked not just a background, but a pattern and a design. I needed to follow a half circle to translate my idea onto paper, so using a double-sided tape roll (another round object would work as well), helped me pencil in my half circles onto my cardstock. I traced a few nested together at the bottom right and at the top left.

Next, I positioned each image design on my acrylic block, but curved it.  (NOTE: Sometimes they bounce back to their original form, but they will eventually comply with being curved.) I did this with all of the images, continuing to stamp in black ink until I had a pattern started.  The images from the Title Builder Vol. 3 Stamp are my favorite as they can be splashes of water, flowers, or in this case, the top of my medallions I’ve created for my patterns!

The circle at the top left had a large area to be filled in, so I used this space to create more layers to my stamped patterns, and also add some of the phrases and words.  In the Title Builder Stamp there is a cursive font “happy” word and in the new Title Builder Vol. 3 Stamp there is a block font “happy.”  With the idea of combining the same word in different fonts and how they would look layered over each other, I began by curving each one on my acrylic block.  I first inked the block font “happy” with grey ink and filled in blank areas as well as along the outside of my patterned circles.  Then I stamped using the cursive “happy” with black ink to stamp over the grey words, but only inside the half circle.

On the bottom half circle, using the grey ink again with the ampersand from the Title Builder Vol. 3 Stamp, I stamped directly over areas or rows of my patterns.  The ampersand did not need to be curved. I stamped it as is.  For this circle, I also used the “let the” and the “choose to be” sayings, curving them as I did the other images, to stamp rows within my circle using black ink.  The Title Builder stamps helped me to create not only an eye-catching background, but also my title, subtitles, and theme for my project.

I painted the Family Acrylic and the Wood Veneer Stars with black paint to continue this neutral and black combination and to help build my title.  Since my background was filled with pattern, I needed a focal point. Since this spread is all about our family beach trip, I printed photos in three circle sizes, then free-hand trimmed the patterned paper behind each one to create balance with the yellow on the right side.  The puffy flip flop stickers from the Summer Puffy Stickers added another fun way to add to the theme.

I added the yellow sun tag from the June 2019 Kit on the right side and to add to it, I continued the medallion look of the circle patterns I created on the left. Instead of curving the dotted stamp image from the Title Builder Stamp, this time I used it as is to accent the sun on the tag. Then I used the splash illustration from the Title Builder Vol. 3 Stamp in between.  To finish that tag, I stamped “Fun in the Sun” using the Title Builder Vol. 3 Stamp and black and grey ink to balance with the left side.

I filled my bottom pocket with a photo, but I still brought in yellow to this pocket using a June Kit die cut which I filled with a Summer Phrase Sticker and added the sunglasses Summer Puffy Sticker to the top.

Honesty time here: I had this idea in my mind, but as it came out on paper, I doubted myself, which is when I would normally start all over. Instead, I challenged myself to get out of the routine of getting something “perfect” or how I think it should be, and just create without overthinking it. This project gives me the idea and confidence to create more patterns like this— knowing if that same doubt enters my mind, to just keep going, because I love how it came out! I hope this challenges you, like it did me, to look at the Title Builder stamps in a different way, not to doubt the initial idea you have, and to keep going!

Do you want to re-create Patricia’s amazing background? You’re in luck! Our Title Builder Stamp and Title Builder Vol. 2 Stamp are on sale through today only! Be sure to grab these sets now, at a great discount!
