Document December 2022 Prep with Suzanna Lee

Hello there Elle’s Studio fans! Wow! Can you believe it, Thanksgiving fast approaches and that means Christmas is just around the corner! It’s Suzanna here today to share how I am prepping for Document December using my Elle’s Studio Document December 2022 kit and add-ons!

I’m not much of a prepper, truth be told. Not when it comes to this project. I have begun this monthly documentation many, many a time and no matter what I do to prepare or not, I never “finish”. In other words, I never document all 25 (or 31) days. I have learned to accept that and I’m perfectly happy just getting some stories told. As a result, I don’t stress about it anymore. I have learned that prepping doesn’t mean I get any more stories in my album. I have also learned that I like large photos and much of my title work and or journaling will be on the photo itself. Hence, prepping isn’t really possible either. Do what works for you! And don’t worry about all the fancy pages that other people share—that’s them. Do you!

My pre-December prep work consists of this: breaking things down. I like to have a storage container that contains all of my Document December goodies with the album itself. Sometimes I will use a divided system but this year I’m going simple. I am working in a 49 and Market binder that holds 6” x 8” pages. Also within the plastic storage bin that I’m using are extra page inserts as well as homemade punch hole guides. Because I use a lot of large photos, I like to have a chipboard “guide” to quickly punch holes directly into the photo with my single-hole punch.

For ease of finding things as well as assessing my options, if I can, I prefer to have things out of the packaging. As you can see above, I have two Iris photo cases that provide ease access to ephemera. One case contains the Red Foil Vellum Numbers and the Christmas Die Cut Tags, while the other contains the Season of Wonder Die Cuts and Journaling Tags from the main Document December Kit. It’s all about easy access and simplicity, my friends!

One of the few things I do always prepare ahead of time is the monthly calendar. It’s an overview for me. It serves no functional purpose other than décor, really. I might write in events, but honestly, the events worth noting are the events I’m going to document. I just love seeing the month ahead of time. And, the December 2022 calendar included in the Document December Kit just makes me happy! Note I used the Attacher Metal Die to provide ring holes for my calendar! I foresee A LOT of use of this for this project!

Another type of page that I have created for years features grid squares full of fun December-related goodies and photos. This year Elle’s Studio has two really nifty metal dies to make even more fun of this addition to your album, the 4 x 6-inch Six Frames Metal Die and the 4 x 6-inch Six Pop-Up Frames Metal Die! BONUS: the Pop-Up Frames Metal Die works with one of the 4 x 6-inch pocket tags in the Document December Kit! Use a portion of a circle punch to create little notches to open the windows and it’s easy work!

Do this often enough and allow yourself to be true to you and your style and you learn the things that work for you. The great thing about the Document December 2022 kit and add-ons is a lot of the coordinating work has been done for you. All you have to do is use it and get those stories told! I can’t wait to see how the kit inspires you and what stories you tell!

A Fresh Holiday Palette with Kat Benjamin

Hello, friends! It’s Kat here today to share a new layout that I recently made with the November product release, as well as some other items that are still in the store!

I’m a big fan of the color combos in this month’s release. It includes such a fresh palette for the holidays, so I decided to scrap a photo of my daughter that we used on our Christmas card last year. Since I liked the holiday color combination so much, I fell back on one of my favorite techniques to get this memory documented: color-blocking!

I began by pulling out strips of paper from a variety of different paper packs: the Twinkle Paper Stack, Love You Paper Stack, Good Times Paper Stack, and Cool Solids Paper Stack. I glued them down pretty haphazardly on the page background.

Once I had my strips and photo glued down, I began adding little bits peeking out all over the place.  I used a variety of labels from the Labels, Ledgers and Tabs Die Cuts to house my journaling and also sprinkled in a few products from the Document December 2022 Kit: the Holiday Puffy Label Stickers and Season of Wonder Die Cuts. Once I was done with color-blocking my embellishments, I added in a vertical sprinkling of the Matte Gold Heart and Star Stickers.

The finishing touch for my layout was adding in a few ripped edges that I backed with a 4 x 6-inch tag from the November 2022 Kit.

This layout came together quickly and easily and highlighted the lovely holiday color combination from this month’s release!

Making Merry in a Traveler’s Notebook with Marsha Farris

Hey, Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Marsha here, sharing a fun traveler’s notebook layout I created for my 2020 December album! The November kit and add-ons were perfect for this spread documenting a fun tradition of making homemade ornaments with my youngest son. 

Supplies | November 2022 Kit, Labels, Ledgers and Tabs Die Cuts, Holiday Frame Stickers, Tiny Christmas Hearts and Stars Puffy Stickers, Twinkle Paper Stack, Holiday Fun Stamp, Christmas Phrases Stamp, Title Builder Vol. 5 The Merriest Stamp, Nesting Tags Metal Die

To begin the layout, I trimmed white cardstock to use as the background. I selected a green dot patterned paper from the Twinkle Paper Stack and trimmed it to span across both pages. Next, I layered frames from the new Holiday Frame Stickers over my photos. I love the fun designs in this sticker set that are great for highlighting pictures on a spread. Then, I selected two pocket tags from the November Kit to use on the layout. I added ribbon from my stash to the top of the first tag and embellished the other with a die cut from the November Kit and a star sticker from the Tiny Christmas Hearts & Stars Puffy Stickers.

To create the title, I stamped the word “Christmas” from the Title Builder Vol. 5 The Merriest Stamp with dark green ink and completed the title with a stamp from the Christmas Phrases Stamp and black ink. The die cuts from the November Kit were great for decorating the layout. 

To further embellish the spread, I added stamping on some of the die cuts from the Labels, Ledgers and Tabs Die Cuts with the Holiday Fun Stamp and Christmas Phrases Stamp. I then used the Nesting Tags Metal Die and Twinkle Paper Stack to create a tag. I printed my journaling on the tag, added a bit of stamping with the Holiday Fun Stamp, and tucked it behind the patterned paper layer. To complete the spread, I sprinkled in a few stars from the  Tiny Christmas Hearts & Stars Puffy Stickers.

Rest & Relax with Junell Kruzel

Hello and happy November! It’s Junell on the blog today sharing a traveler’s notebook spread I created to document the Halloween movies we’ve been watching this season. The November 2022 kit and the extras were perfect for this!

I started off by choosing a deep navy paper from the Cool Solids Paper Stack and patterned paper from the Thankful Paper Stack because they perfectly matched the tags in the November 2022 Kit that I wanted to use. I laid out my pictures and tags so that they were diagonal from each other to move your eye across the page. 

I did some layering and stamping to embellish. The Holiday Fun Stamp had this great “rest & relax” great stamp that worked perfectly for my pictures!

Before I did any journaling on the journaling tag, I wanted to add layers and make a large cluster on the bottom right page. I cut up some of the tags and die cuts from the November Kit, along with the Labels, Ledgers and Tabs Die Cuts. I filled in the rest of the “this was the best” tag with my journaling.

I finished off the layout by adding a few clusters of stars from the Matte Gold Heart and Star Stickers. They added to the spooky, nighttime movie-watching vibe I wanted the layout to have!

Holiday Frame Sticker Love with Melissa Mann

Hello, friends! This is Melissa with you today, sharing a brand new project featuring the awesome Holiday Frame Stickers new to the shop this month. There are so many ways that you could use these stickers in your projects! I decided to use them with one of my most loved layout styles which is a grid-based sketch.

I found a sequence of photos of one of my nieces playing in the snow and edited my photos to 2.25 x 2.25-inch squares. I pulled out some of the 3 x 4-inch journaling tags from the November 2022 Kit that were pink, green, and red and layered these behind the Holiday Frame Stickers. The pictures fit almost perfectly behind the stickers; there was only a small strip that had to be cut off on one side. 

Once my grid was laid out on the kraft cardstock, I stitched around the entire block with my sewing machine and then used pink and white twine to add an additional layer of texture around the block. I purposely left the sixth grid spot empty as a place to put my title and journaling. 

It was super easy to embellish the layout by using the Labels, Ledgers and Tabs Die Cuts and the Matte Gold Heart and Star Stickers. I also stamped a few text phrases on the Holiday Frame Stickers.

Document December 2022 Prep with Melissa Mann

Happy November, friends! Are you getting excited for the holiday season? It’s Melissa, and this is definitely one of my most favorite times of the year and lends to some great memory keeping. Today, I’m sharing a couple of pages in my Document December album that I’ve put together ahead of time to help me stay on task in the busy month of December.

I’ve found that if I have a handful of pages that are already completed and mostly completed, it helps me on those days in December when I may not have the time to sit down and spend a couple of hours on my album. 

This year, I plan on having more interactive elements in my album. I really loved how this page with the vellum pocket turned out, and I can us it to slip some tags and photos in.

Document December 2022 Prep with Diane Dzuiban

Hi, everyone! Happy Document December season! It’s Diane here, and this, by far, is my favorite time of year to document, and today I am going to share a little bit of my process of preparing to document the month of December with the  Document December kit and add-ons!

My very first step is always to decide on the size of album I want to complete. This year it is once again a 6 x 8-inch album. It’s definitely my favorite size to document these memories in. I considered going larger since this will be our very first Christmas with our grandson, but in the end, I decided to stay with this size. Next in my process is to grab all of my supplies—new and old, and do an inventory of the products I have. I always place my new kit in an organizer so that it will be front and center!

Once I looked at all of the Document December products, I grabbed a notebook and started writing down the dates that I know I have something going on, and I made a list of the things I want to make sure I get documented. There are events that get documented every year, like decorating the tree and all of our Christmas decorations, and then there are new events and special memories like celebrating our grandson’s first Christmas that I want to make sure I have a space for.

Last in my process, I started playing with all the fun products in the kit! I will usually make some foundation pages to help me out when the month gets busy. I love just playing and creating and seeing what comes from that quiet time before the holidays hit.

Everyday Stories in Pockets with Diane Dziuban

Hi, everyone! It’s Diane with you, and today I am sharing a fun pocket page layout using the beautiful November kit and add-ons! This kit has an awesome mix of everyday and holiday-themed tags, so I decided to use the everyday monthly tags to document the first week in November. I just love the mix of the teal-green with navy! Such a pretty combination!

I love that the 3 x 4 and 4 x 6-inch tags from the November Kit provide such great spaces to get lots of stories told. The “to-do list” was such a fun addition to my spread! I love how it prompted me to list the things that I had going on in this particular week.

What I’m watching, a story of a dinner out with my husband and an overview of ten things that happened this week all made it onto this spread thanks to those awesome November Kit journaling tags. So fun!

As I gear up for the holidays, I want to make sure I still get my everyday stories told, and this kit was perfect to help me do that! I think you’ll find the same when your kit arrives on your desk! Happy crafting!
