Project Life Tuesday with Giveaway!

Welcome to another week of Project Life at Elle’s Studio!   This week I have a new Project Life week to share AND a giveaway at the bottom of this post!

This week documents the week of October 3-9 2011– and it was full of fall activities for my family!  We visited two pumpkin patches, an apple orchard, and really began to see the leaves changing colors– I really love this time of year!

As you can see, I added another insert to this week’s Project Life.   We attended a birthday party at an apple orchard and this was the little bag they gave all the kids to pick apples.  I was about to throw it away later in the day, but I thought of how perfect it would be in my Project Life album.   I added some of my son’s school art work (which was an apple) in the insert.

I think the leaf is one of my favorite items in this weeks Project Life.  I found a neat technique for preserving the color of fall leaves– stay tuned, I will share this with you later in the week!

I used quite a bit of Elle’s Studio’s new Halloween Tidbits this week.  They are adorable and perfect for a small simple touch.  I also love how that the Large Journaling Tags fit perfectly in the 4×6 spot in my album.  It’s great for journaling or even adding a small photo to it.

Other “found” items I included in this week’s Project Life, was the packaging for 3D glasses when we saw Lion King in the theater, my name tag for a local store opening, and my sons ticket for the pony ride at the pumpkin patch.  It takes a few weeks to get in the mode of saving these little items, but they add such a slice of “real life” into your album.

Are you ready for today’s giveaway!? We are giving away an assortment of Elle’s Studio Halloween and Holiday items that will be perfect for your Project Life album (or scrapbooking)!  Just leave us a comment and let us know if you are currently making a Project Life Album or plan to do so in 2012!!   We will draw a winner on Friday October 21 at 9pm EST.

Another sneak peek…

We’ve got another sneak peek of the
upcoming super fun week!

We are teaming up with another manufacture to
bring you one amazing week of fun!
Check back on Friday for full details!

Sponsored Giveaway: X-Acto knife tips!

When I’m in my scraproom you’ll always see my scissors and X-Acto knife within reach – they are my go to tools that I use every day. So when the X-Acto company contacted me and asked me to share my favorite 3 ways to use their knife, along with having a giveaway for our readers, I was so excited to share the fun with you all!

Here are my three favorite ways of using these knives at home and in my craft room:

1. When I want to be extra precise sticking my letter stickers down on tags or paper, I use my X-Acto blade to help. You can poke them with the tip of the blade to pull them off the sticker sheet and then stick them down to your tag or paper in the exact spot you want them!

2. When I need a custom, larger monogram, for my scrapbooking layouts, I use my computer to print out a large enough letter, then trace it on scrapbook paper. When you use the X-Acto knife to cut it out, you’ll end up with two monograms that you’ll be able to use! And, you could even back the negative C with another color! Tip: When you trace the letter to cut out, flip it, so you are tracing it backwards, on the back side of the cardstock. This will insure you have no pencil marks on the front of your finished image!

3. I love covering chipboard in scrapbooking paper! So, of course I’m grabbing my X-Acto knife when I do, to cut off the excess paper around the edges! It makes it quick and easy, and gives a great finished look.

Those are my top three favorite ways to use my knife in my craft room! You can check out Creative Knife Users Guide that they have created that includes over 300 other creative ways of using your X-Acto knife!

Now, I must add a personal note on this post – they sent me three knifes to work with, but my favorite was this Designer Series Gripster craft knife. It’s pink 🙂 and the grip fit my fingers so perfectly, making it much easier to cut. And, to top it all off, the cover for the blade has a stopper on it so it won’t roll!

Alright, now it’s your turn to have some fun! They are letting me giveaway TWO prize packs that include a Retract-a-Blade knife, Designer Series Gripster craft knife and a self-healing mat!

Just leave a comment here letting use know your favorite way of using a X-Acto in your house and we’ll draw two winners this Saturday! Comments must be posted by 10.21.11 at 11:59 am. One entry per person!

Make It Sunday – 10.16.11

Welcome to our new blog series called “Make It Sunday!” Every Sunday we will be bringing you a fun project that you can make at home, with easy to do, step-by-step instructions! Today we want to show you how to use our tags to create a fun little Halloween tag!

I have a couple special trick-or-treaters that will be stopping by on Halloween so I thought I should make something a little extra cute and special for them! It’s always fun to get candy on Halloween, but when your candy comes in a super cute little package, it makes it even better!

Here’s the steps on how I created this quick and easy Halloween tag:

1. Cut a 2 x 4 inch piece of orange/yellow paper (I used Basic Grey: Out of Print – Batik)

2. Punch some 1 inch circles out of scrap paper and lay them over your 2 x 4 inch tag.

3. Spray some mist spray over them. (I used Studio Calico’s Mister Huey Dark Calico)

4. While that is drying, stamp a ghost (my ghost came from Market Street Stamps Sweet Spooks set) on some white paper and then spray some Studio Calico Mister Huey Shine Mist on it and set aside to dry.

5. Cut the blue, orange and brown striped pennant out from our Halloween Pennant set and use some letter stickers to write someones name on it.

6. Cut the Happy Halloween pennant out from our Halloween Lil’ Snippet, too.

7. Arrange the ghost and two pennants on the tag, along with a Halloween Tidbit and glue down.

8. Cut the top two corners of the 2 x 4 inch tag at an angle to create a fun look, punch a hole and string some ribbon through it to tie to a candy bag later!

Alright, now we have a fun surprise for you! Each “Make It Sunday” will also end with a giveaway that includes all the Elle’s Studio products we used in the project we made above and sometimes it will also include products from other scrapbooking manufacturers!

This Sunday we are giving away:

Elle’s Studio Lil’ Snippets-Halloween, Halloween Pennants and Halloween Tidbits, along with Studio Calico Mister Huey’s Shine!

Just leave a comment to be entered! We will draw the winner and post it with next weeks “Make It Sunday’ post. *Comments must entered by 11:59 pm on 10.22.11 to qualify for entry. One entry per person, please.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Sketch Thursday – 10.13.11

Happy Thursday, everyone! This weeks sketch is inspired by one of Laura’s layouts from our September Inspiration Gallery! We love Laura’s simple but meaningful approach to scrapbooking and this layout perfectly captures her amazing style!

This sketch is very flexible, you can either use the large space for a photo or journaling and then the little pieces can be for more journaling or embellishments! And, where you put the title is totally up to you! Don’t forget, you can flip, rotate, change the size of this sketch – it’s totally up to you!

Let’s take a peek at what our design team members did with this week’s sketch:

Allison turned hers into a 12 x 12 layout and used the large space for a photo. We love how she used our tags in this layout, along with the fun little ink splatters and that cute orange + black bakers twine!

Elle’s Studio products used: Spooktacular Autumn Journaling Circle Tags, Halloween Pennants, and Lil’ Snippets: Halloween.

Waleska also used the large space for two photo for her layout, but kept her layout size to the 8.5 x 11 size like Laura’s layout. We love how she fit her journaling on one of our pennants and the cute little leaves add the perfect fall, finishing touch!

Elle’s Studio products used: Halloween Pennants and Spooktacular Autumn Large Journaling Tags.

Looking for an incentive to use our sketch this week? We can help with that! Post a link to your layout created using this Sketch Thursday sketch for your chance to win a $5 Elle’s Studio gift certificate. Link must be posted by 11:59p on Wednesday, October 19th, 2011.

Project Life Tuesday

Welcome to another week of Project Life here at Elle’s Studio! We started this series a week ago in hopes of showing you examples of how Elle’s Studio products compliment the Project Life concept and products.

This documents the week of September 26- October 2, which was especially busy for my family!  I had many stories to share, so I added an additional insert page by We R Memory Keepers.  It was originally a 12″x12″ page, but I trimmed it down to a 12″x8″ page.

Here is a look at the full two pages:

And below are close up photos of each individual page:

I used many Elle’s Studio tags in this weeks Project Life.   A few of my favorites are the Lil’ Snippets, which fit perfectly in the center inserts.   I used the Turquoise and Lime Lil’ Snippet to document some of the meals we had this particular week.

I used two circle tags– a Handmade Layers Circle Tag (in the photo above), and a Vintage Layered Number Tag (in the photo below) and made a “tab” for the insert page I created.  I love having little bits and pieces peeking out from pages- especially when it helps transition from page to page.

One thing I vowed to do when I started Project Life, was to really focus on using the stash of products I already own.  I used leftover bits and pieces of Studio Calico’a Napa Valley Kit.  Project Life is a wonderful way to use the last little pieces of a treasured kit!

I also used one of the exclusive tid-bits found in the Forever Grateful Project Kit.  I love how Elle designed SO many tags for this Project Kit; I have a bunch left over to use in my Project Life and layouts!
Thanks for stopping by today!!

What’s on my desk…

I’m loving my desk set up right now – I’ve temporarily moved my scrapbooking projects into the kitchen, where I can still be involved in everything that is going on around me. I’ve got about 7 different projects going at the same time, but none are near finished… tonight though, they should be complete!

I’m excited because all those projects add up to some really fun things that will be taking place here at the blog, very soon! Cannot wait 🙂

And, a fun reminder that one set of our Halloween Tidbits ships free with every order in October! It’s a fun little trick-or-treat for scrapbookers!

Wishing you all a very creative week!

Sketch Thursday: 10.06.11

Sketch Thursday is here! Are you ready to be inspired by another amazing sketch based off of design team member Keshet’s layout? We love this layout she put together for our September Inspiration Gallery and thought it should be this week’s sketch!

This sketch as room for two photos, a fun title, some embellishments and even layers of paper! But remember, it’s totally up to you how you complete the sketch! Take this sketch into your scrap room and use it for inspiration – flip it, rotate it, it’s totally up to you how you complete it!

Let’s take a peek at what our design team member, Leslie, did with the sketch:

Leslie added a third photo and played around with some extra embellishments! We love how this layout turned out. She also used a different border punch and we think it turned out great!

Elle’s Studio products used: This Moment – Brights, Spooktacular Autumn Tiny Tags, Lil’ Snippets: Halloween, Halloween Pennants, Spooktacular Autumn Large Journaling Tags, and an exclusive tag from our Forever Grateful Project Kit!

Looking for an incentive to use our sketch this week? We can help with that! Post a link to your layout created using this Sketch Thursday sketch for your chance to win a $5 Elle’s Studio gift certificate. Link must be posted by 11:59p on Wednesday, October 12th, 2011.
