Project Life at Elle’s Studio

We are very excited to bring you a new “Project Life” blog series at Elle’s Studio! Project Life was created by Becky Higgins as a way to simplify the way you document life by taking a week by week approach. This particular blog series is designed to show you examples of how Elle’s Studio products compliment the Project Life products, and we hope to inspire you with new ideas as you create your own Project Life album!

This past August I decided to take the plunge and start Project Life at the beginning of the school year (as opposed to waiting until January 1st.) It’s somewhat of a second “new year” for us anyway! I am only a few weeks into Project Life, and I enjoy it so much, and notice it allows me to be more aware of my surroundings and documentation approach. What I love is that there are really no rules as to when you should (or shouldn’t) start Project Life– anytime is a good time.

This is the week of September 19-25th for our family. I used a variety of Elle’s Studio Products such as Winter Large Journaling Tags, the Everyday Large Journaling Tags, Lil’ Snippets Days of the Week-Monday, and Lil’ Snippets Dates. I found these paired very well with American Craft’s Amy Tangerine line.

For each week I try to keep “found” items (otherwise known as items that end up at the bottom of my purse and/or are on their way to the trash). Basically, just a little slice of our week that means something to me and my family. For this week, I included my son’s school picture “preview”, trimmed a watercolor picture he painted, and used a size tag from a pair of pants at Carter’s (“let’s play”, and the “5 kids” which is his pants size).

I also included a few photos that were printed through an app on my iPhone, Postal Pix. This program is wonderful for photos you run through Instagram. I use my iPhone so much during the week that it really helps me accomplish my goals with Project Life.

If you would like to see my past Project Life posts, feel free to stop by and visit my blog.

They’re cute… tiny… and FREE!

October is already here and we have two really fun things in store for you!

First, we are very excited to share that Jenni is going to be starting a new blog series, here at our blog, about her Project Life album that she has been putting together. Each week you’ll get to see what she’s done, products she used, and get some tips and ideas along the way! Her album is really amazing and inspiring so we are very excited to have her on the blog sharing it with us, every Tuesday! Her first post will be up tomorrow πŸ™‚

Next up, we have a new sized tag in the shop called Tidbits – for Christmas and Halloween! These were supposed to be with our main launch, but our printer didn’t get them done in time πŸ™ So we decided to release them now and as a little bonus we are shipping the Halloween ones free with every order in October! No need to add it to your cart, just check out as normal and we’ll add it to your package when we pack your order up!

Hope your October is off to a lovely start!

Saturday Spotlight

It’s the first Saturday of the month so that means it’s time for our Saturday Spotlight! Today we are thrilled to feature the work from Glenys Davies! Since she doesn’t have a blog, she emailed me a couple images of her work and we were blown away! We are loving her use of our Handmade Layers tags and her scrapbooking style!
Glenys says, “I have been using the Elle’s Studio tags for a couple of years, but really love the Handmade Layers tags. I love the smaller sizes of the pennants and small note tags, as I like to use a few of them in a cluster, such as the banners in my layouts. I love the soft colors of the tags – they seem to match any layout. I love the handmade feel to the tags as well. I like how the whole range coordinates, so I can use the pennants and date stips and note tags together and always know that they will match.

As you know, I live in Singapore and I love how easy it is to order ES products online and have them here in Singapore in no time. The customer service is fantastic.”

I used the Handmade Layers blank pennants in this layout to create another banner embellishment. The soft colors in the pennants matched the photos so well. I matched one of the note tags to add another embellishment above the photos. I even used the ES packaging fom the Handmade layers large journaling tags to punch the clouds.

Elle’s Studio products used: Handmade Layers Note Tags, Handmade Layers Tiny Tags and Handmade Layers Pennants – blank

This layout featured some of the places around the world we have been lucky enough to visit. There were many colors in the layout, but the Handmade layers date and place strips matched all the colors so well. I used the strips to create a banner to list some of our travels. The layout had quite a few elements, but the small size of the strips allowed me to get a lot of detail of our travels into my layout.

Thanks for sharing your work with us, Glenys – we absolutely love your work her and your kind words just made our day!

Do you want to be considered for our next Saturday Spotlight? If you create a project featuring Elle’s Studio product that you’d like us to see, please send us an e-mail at info@shopellesstudio.com and include the following:
  • A photo of your layout
  • A few sentences about how you created your project

Forever Grateful Project Kit Inspiration Week

Today is the last day of our inspiration week, for our newly released Project Kit, Forever Grateful!

Each member of our design team was asked to take one of these kits and put their own personal touch on it. They’ve done an amazing job at showing us how flexible this kit is and how you can adapt it to your own style. Be on the lookout for fun techniques that you could use on your own kit, too!

Our next kit up this week is by our design team member, Waleska:

Waleska also decided to flip her board and we love what she did with it! She used that pink piece of paper we included with our exclusive tags and it adds the perfect pop of color here! She also did some fun things with her embellishments by creating fun clusters!

Waleska said “Even though I’m normally not one to work on ‘altered items’ I absolutely LOVED working with this kit. The tray is great for showcasing some of my favorite pictures and the tags & embellies are just the perfect touch. Not only were some of the tags designed to fit perfectly in the tray but you get sooo many extras you can really make it your own + use the extras for other projects (or maybe change it up every so often?). I love this kit!”

And, our last kit up for our inspiration week is mine:

I choose to keep my tray similar to Jenni’s by placing the envelopes, spool and “I love you” tag in the same row, and then changed it up a little with the other tags in the kit. I’m actually giving mine to my sister, so I asked her for a couple photos to work with and they ended up being perfect! She’s going to be so surprised because usually when I ask her for photos they end up on scrapbook pages πŸ™‚

This kit took me about an hour and a half to complete, from start to finish! Jenni did such a great job putting together the items in this kit and with the exclusive Elle’s Studio tags, the hardest part was picking out which tags to use! And… I have a slight confession: This is one of the first projects that I’ve been able to complete in one sitting! I absolutely love how it turned out and am already planning to make another one for my parents – it’s going to make the perfect Christmas present for them!

Thanks so much for joining us this week and to everyone who purchased a kit! We would LOVE to see what you’ve done with yours and don’t forget there is a giveaway going on for those who email us a link or photo to their completed kit!

Sketch Thursday: 09.29.11

We are interrupting our inspiration week for our sketch Thursday! Thursday are so fun around here because it means a new sketch is here to work with and we love how easy these sketches make scrapbooking! A bonus for us each week is seeing what you guys create from the sketch! We love peeking at each entry every week!

This week’s sketch is based off of our incredible design team member, Leslie‘s 21 layout! I love her use of a large photo – this has to be one of my favorite scrapbooking techniques! Large photos are so much fun to scrapbook with and embellish, too!

This sketch has room for one large photo and lots of embellishments – however it’s totally up to you how you complete the sketch! Let’s take a peek at how one of our design team members interpreted it:

Laura played with the sketch and chose to flip the photo vertical, but kept with the sketches idea to tuck in an embellishment at the top and have one going across the bottom!

Elle’s Studio products used: Handmade Layers Date and Place Strips, and Handmade Layers Large Journaling Tags.

We adore it, Laura! What a great take on this sketch!

Looking for an incentive to use our sketch this week? We can help with that! Post a link to your layout created using this Sketch Thursday sketch for your chance to win a $5 Elle’s Studio gift certificate. Link must be posted by 11:59p on Wednesday, October 5th, 2011.

Gift certificate can be used towards purchase of products only and can NOT be used for shipping charges. Gift certificate balance must be used in a single transaction.

Congratulations to our last sketch’s winner:

We skipped the sketch last week, so this is the week before lasts winner that we wanted to announce again πŸ˜‰

Forever Grateful Project Kit Inspiration Week

Our inspiration week, for our newly released Project Kit, Forever Grateful, continues!

Each member of our design team was asked to take one of these kits and put their own personal touch on it. They’ve done an amazing job at showing us how flexible this kit is and how you can adapt it to your own style. Be on the lookout for fun techniques that you could use on your own kit, too!

Our next kit up today is by our design team member, Allison Waken:

We love how Allison choose to split up the numbered envelopes and placed them around the board! She also made a pennant out of our “blessed” tag by cutting a triangle out of one side and that turned out great! Also, we are loving how she made all the smaller photos black and white and the larger photo is color.

Allison said “This was my first time playing with a kit like this and it was such a fun experience. I loved all the tags and working out a way to use them all within the tray. I think it’s so fun to create something to display for everyone to see on a daily basis.”

The next kit up is by our design team member, Keshet Starr:

We are loving how Keshet switched it up and used mainly purple and yellow with her board with her tray. And she did some cute things with her embellishments, too! We also are loving how she made the largest photo framed and put the banner over it!

Keshet said “My favorite aspect of the kit are the tags designed to fit in the tray!  This feature made the design come together so quickly, and was so much fun! I also loved how many tags were included, and how many possibilities there were in using the same set of products. Working with this kit was a blast!”

Our next kit up is by our design team member, Stephanie Klauck:

Stephanie flipped the tray around and choose to put the three envelopes up in the higher square. We love how she choose to put the banner over the larger photo and how she incorporated some butterflies into the kit! She also created the clouds on the “so very blessed” tag by cutting one of the small scalloped tags in half and using the back side! Very clever!

Stephanie says “I think my favorite thing about this kit is the way all of the elements focus on family. Everything goes so well together and the colors and exclusive tags give it a warm, welcoming feel. The perfect assortment of product to create a beautiful family keepsake.”

The next kit up is by design team member Laura Kurz:

Laura choose to use only the exclusive tags that came with the kit – we love how different Laura’s tray turned out! It really shows how flexible this kit is and that you can adjust it for any style!

Laura says “I chose to focus on the neutrals in the kit as my house is pretty neutral and I want to use this as part of my decor. I also wanted to keep some “white space” as that is my decorating (and scrapbooking) style as well. I picked out all of the cream/white embellishments and started plugging them in. I used index prints of my son as other embellishments on the page, as well as my butterfly punch and a seashell I picked up at the beach this summer!

My favorite part of the project kit were the exclusive Elle’s Studio pieces, of course! I loved the “xoxo” strip and used it in multiple spots on the tray.”

They’ve done an amazing job at showing us how flexible this kit is and how you can adapt it to your own style. Be on the lookout for fun techniques that you could use on your own kit, too!

Our first kit up is by design team member, Leslie Ashe:

Leslie flipped the entire tray around – we love how ended up looking! We also are loving her use of the black and white photos in contrast with the colorful papers and tags, and that heart behind the numbered envelopes!

Leslie said “I love the versatility that the tags gave to this kit. You can use them for any photo, any subject, theme, etc. I just love the exclusive tags!”

Our next kit up is by design team member, Marcy Penner:

We love how Marcy chose to split up the large space with tags and a photo at the top. Also, loving how she used the button, house and number for on top of the envelopes and all that stitching!

Marcy said “There was so much from this kit that I loved… from the Studio Calico papers to the wooden houses to the exclusive Elle’s Studio tags (especially the definition ones). They just all worked so well together”
