Favorite Elle’s Studio Products:  the entire You & Me Collection!

What are three scrapbooking products you can’t live without?

My Silhouette cameo, my hot glue gun, and my craft knife that’s been with me for 20 years (true story).

What are three facts about yourself that other’s might not know?

I have garbage issues, I don’t eat (at all) anybody else’s sandwiches and i wish had mad computer programming skills as a super power.

What do you listen to/watch while Scrapbooking?
I watch Downton Abbey and Suits.  And Pride and Prejudice 🙂

Where do you scrapbook?

I am lucky and blessed to have this beautiful space… a whole room dedicated to my photographic and design work.   But it’s my homeschooling office and general business office too.  This space is just mine so I decorated it as girly as possible.  You can see more here.

That’s not all, today we have two huge giveaways!!!

First are giving away the entire new Elle’s Studio collection, You & Me!

Second, we are giving away a seat in Wilna’s brand new class at Two Peas in a Bucket, “Art Class with Wilna“.

Project Life

This week covers week 4: January 21-27, 2013.
Continuing on my quest of adding new items and perspectives in my album in 2013, this week included a few unexpected and fun ephemera.

I added a catalog question mark image (I think this came from the J.Crew catalog), to document the fact that our son is asking thousands of questions daily about an upcoming Disney trip (bless his heart).   I also included a printed image from my favorite TV show- Downton Abbey.  This particular week was a BIG week on the show.   I also trimmed down a take out box to document that we frequently get chinese take out on the weekends!

I thought I would begin sharing a bit about my photos and the ratio between DSLR and iPhone photos.  This week includes 5 DSLR photos (3 of these were convered to instax via Pivi Printer by Fujifilm), and 7 photos were taken by my iPhone.  I definitely include more photos taken by my phone on a weekly basis.  It just fits with my lifestyle and its so convenient.
One photography idea is to include a full 4×6 (a pattern or close up would work well with this) and place a title over the photo.  I did this with rice krispy treats my mom made for us.  I love how it gives the photo an editorial look.

On my 4×6 photo on the left page, I trimmed a 3×4 tabbed tag to include just the tab part on the edge of the photo.   The tab tags are so versatile!

Congrats to Stephanie you won last week’s giveaway!  Please email michelle@shopellesstudio.com the following info to claim your prize:

Sketch Thursday

Welcome back to Sketch Thursday! Today’s layout is inspired by the amazingly talented  (and brand new DT member) Martha.

I loved the vellum background on the original layout so I copied it (with a curvy font). I was also inspired by the layering of papers and tags (though I’m not great at it so mine is a minimalistic take on the layering ;))

We’d love to see how this sketch inspires you! Link your projects or simply leave a comment here for a chance to win a $10 Elle’s Studio gift certificate.

Our new collections have arrived!

Today is the BIG day – our brand new collections are now in the shop. We are so excited to have these new lines stocked and ready to ship, we can hardly wait to see what you guys make with them! These collections are also shipping to a lot of retailers, so they might already be on the shelf at your local scrapbook store!

Here’s a little peek at each collection:

Our You & Me collection is a really fun collection for you and the ones you love. It has the perfect mix of pinks, reds, krafts, blues, and even some chalkboard mixed in, so you can use it for girls or boys!

Our Day To Day collection is the perfect collection for everyday scrapbooking! The bright and fun colors in this collection will work well with almost any photo and moment you want to capture.

Both collections now include coordinating 12 x 12 double-sided papers, and our new tab shaped tag! Our tabs work great for layering and/or journaling on layouts, cards, mini album (and mini album pages) BUT they will also fit into your Project Life page protectors. There are so many uses for this tag set!

And, just in case you missed it, make sure you check out all the amazing projects that were put together, by some incredible ladies, with these new lines for our CHA booth! You can see them here: You & Me and Day To Day. And, tomorrow there will be even MORE inspiration! Tomorrow is our new Design Team’s first gallery debut and I’m really excited for you to see what they did!

Thanks for stopping by today – we are so excited to see what you create with these new goodies! Don’t forget to upload your creations to our Member Gallery!

Project Life

This week’s Project Life covers week 3:  January 14-20.

The beginning of January marked 18 months since I began documenting using the Project Life system. I absolutely love this method of scrapbooking.  With the new year, I challenged myself to try new things as I designed my spread.   It’s fun (and inspiring) to spice things up a bit.  Even a slight move away from “the norm” offers opportunities to learn and be inspired.  It reminds me of what we always tell our children at the dinner table– “just try it, you might like it!”
So for this week my goal was to not fill every pocket with photos.   Now let me first say, there is nothing wrong with filling every pocket with photos! 🙂  I chose this challenge so that I could play a little bit more in the pockets, and so that the photos I DID choose would be highlighted and might make a statement (sometimes I feel like my photos can get lost if I fill every pocket with a photo).
In my “non-photo” pockets I used logos (from a napkin), a little badge my son received when he lost a tooth, cover of the Star Wars trilogy (which has been playing nonstop at our home), a tidbit from the new You & Me collection (backed with a transparency), and packaging from a gift I received from my grandma.
For this spread I included TWO inserts.   The first one is a Design A Page Protector by Becky Higgins trimmed in half.

The second insert is an 8 1/2 x 11 page.   this is an interesting insert— a cartoonist drew my dad (far right) and his three brothers holding a picture of their father and a copy of “Resolve” (the book about my grandfather’s WW2 experience).   We received the cartoon this week and this is a copy of the PDF file. Really special and fun to include in Project Life.
The backside of the insert is a little collage of clothing tags acquired from an outlet mall trip this week.  I love seeing the price tags and also the sizes I bought for my kids.

The final right side page is an enlarged sunset from this week.  It’s a 12×12 photo printed through Mpix.com.  (they also now print 4×4 prints!).   I loved highlighting this beautiful winter sunset.

Don’t forget, two of our brand new collections, Day to Day and You & Me will be available this week!  Join our newsletter list to be the first to know when they are up for sale on our site, on Thursday, January 31st at 8:00 am PST.

Sketch Thursday

Hello and happy Thursday! Today’s sketch was inspired by Valerie’s New Toy layout from January’s DT gallery.

I love how this layout seems very simple yet is full of little details. Look at all the splattering, stamping, and layering… amazing!

We’re super happy to see so many of you participate last week. Thank you!! I hope you are equally inspired this week and can’t wait to see what you create with this sketch. Leave us a comment or link your projects here for a chance to win a $10 Elle’s Studio gift certificate. We’ll announce the winner next Thursday, when we introduce the new sketch for the week.
