Sketch Thursday

Circles, circles, circles! That’s what today’s sketch is all about. Inspired by Katie Gordon’s my bear layout I hope you like this sketch as much as I do!

Mix sizes, patterns and colors to recreate this super fun layout:

Or see how all the circles inspire you to create your very own (perhaps completely different) version. Either way, create a layout, upload it to our member’s gallery and post a link in the comments section here. A randomly selected winner will receive a $10 gift certificate to the Elle’s Studio Shop.

Last week’s winner is Vera Yates!

Congratulations!! Please email michelle@shopellesstudio.com the following info to claim your prize:

fun with cards: tabbed tags

Hello there! Are you ready for more fun with cards? Today, we are showing you some fun ways to use tabbed tags.  My super talented friend, and DT member Christa agreed to play along today and look at the beautiful card she made! I LOVE how she combined several tags here:

love how to:
  • Cut the pink chevron paper down to 5″ x 5.5″
  • Cut the black chalkboard paper down to 4.5″ x 5″ and layer centered on top of the previous patterned paper
  • Cut the blue and pink large tabs to 3″ x 3.75″
  • Layer the “You & Me” small tab directly over the black chalkboard tab, leaving the tab showing
  • Under the black tab, layer the blue cut tab on the left so that the tab and a small portion of the card are showing.
  • Do the same with the pink cut tab, layering it to the right of the smaller tabs
  • Angle the adhered tabs slightly to the left, keeping it within the black chalkboard paper
  • Cut the word “Love” from the Note Tags and adhere it onto the top tab
  • Cut the “I Adore You” from the Cut Outs and adhere on the left side of the tabs.
  • Mist a chipboard or wood veneer heart with red mist and adhere in the center of the “O”
  • Use the You and Me stamps and stamp “XOXO” along the “V” with red ink
  • Adhere all of this onto cardstock cut to 5.5″ x 10″ opening on the right side

For my first card, I binded 2 small tabbed tags with washi tape to create the base. As I was working on it I realized this would make a great mini album as well! Cool huh? Also on this card,  there is a sneak peek tag from our monthly kit that will be launching on Friday, May 10th at 8:00 am PST – make sure you are on our newsletter list 😉

congrats how to:
  • Select two tabbed tags the same size
  • Bind them with washi tape
  • Sew along the sides to secure
  • Layer tidbits, tags and ribbon
  • Add a vellum photo corner for balance
  • Embellish with buttons

For the next card, I wanted to create a mother’s day card that was fun and trendy (and not at all girly) so this is what I came up with:

mom how to:

  • Cut off the middle section of the ‘best day ever’ tabbed tag
  • Replace with vellum
  • Attach to a white card base
  • Fill the pocket with sequins
  • Sew along the edges to secure the pocket
  • Add wood veneer letters, hearts and sequins
  • Color some of the hearts with ink pads

Project Life

This week’s Project Life covers the week of April 22-28th.

The reoccurring theme this week was field trips, animals, and bits of pieces of our everyday moments.

I used many pieces from the Day to Day collection.  I love the primary colors that were pulled from the photos and embellishments.

One of my favorite Elle’s Studio products for Project Life are our Tiny Tags.  They are perfect to add to a 4×6 photo.  It allows for extra journaling space, more than what a label would provide.   I often use the Tiny Tags for my date pocket as well.

For this week I included an insert.   The backside of an insert is a table “cloth” drawing from a date night out with friends.

Finally, my right side page is a 12×12 photo of an Instagram photo taken with my iPhone.  I love the simplicity of this photo.  It truly captures our “everyday”.

We want to feature your Project Life album!  During the last week of each month we will be featuring a couple Project Life spreads that caught our eye in the Member Gallery.  We will be posting Project Life spreads on our blog tomorrow!   If your spread is featured we will be sending you a $5 gift card to use in our store.   Good Luck!

Project Life was created by Becky Higgins as a way to simplify how you document life and preserve memories. Photo pockets used in my Project Life album are created by Becky and can be found here.  You can read of all the Elle’s Studio Project Life posts here.

Something new for you at Elle’s Studio, each month!

We are very, VERY excited to announce to you today that we are bringing back our Project Kits, but with a BIG twist! This time around, we are focusing on the part you guys loved the most, the tags! When we did the kits last year, we had a ton of emails asking about being able to purchase just the exclusive tags in the kit – because most of you already had a stash at home and wanted something to go with that stash and make it new again! So, we are thrilled to announce that each month you’ll be able to purchase an exclusive and limited edition set of tags to do just that!

The best part about these kits is that it will work for you, no matter what you enjoy making! The kit will include tags that you can use for layouts, mini books, cards, and of course, Project Life. You’ll get a mix of tags that you will not find anywhere else, or in any of our collections. Most tags will be tags you can use for everyday themes, and there will even be some seasonal and monthly tags in the mix, too! Each month look for a mix of sizes and shapes, and anywhere from around 20 to 25 tags – the perfect amount to keep you busy all month long!

Each month, the limited edition kits will go on sale on the 10th at 8:00 am PST, at our website. Our very first kit goes live this Friday, May 10th! These kits will be able to ship first class: shipping for USA residents will start around $1.70 and go up from there, depending on the weight of what is in your cart. For overseas, it will run about $6+ depending on your location. Kits will ship out the following business day, in the order they were received. Depending on the amount ordered, it could take us up to 3 business days to ship your kit.

As a special bonus, when you purchase the kit on the 10th, you’ll also receive a discount! These kits are limited, so mark your calendars now, you won’t want to miss launch day. To make sure you don’t miss a kit, please join our newsletter list, because these kits are limited, once they sell out we will NOT be restocking.

P.S. At this time, we are not taking subscriptions, but that will allow you to purchase on a month-to-month, as needed basis!

Sketch Thursday

Hello and welcome to Sketch Thursday! Each Thursday we have a new sketch and invite our readers to play along and make a project based off the sketch. There’s a cool prize in it for one lucky winner, too.

Spring Fashion by Shannon Tidwell inspired today’s sketch. Check out her amazing layout in the DT gallery!

I love how Shannon used the big floral paper and challenged myself to use it as well. I cut out two sets of flowers and layered them with pop dots.

For the background, the lovely stripes paper worked perfectly! I then added different tags, stamps and bits & pieces to finish it off.

We’d love to see what you create with this sketch! Upload your project to our gallery and post a link in the comment section below, for a chance to win a $10 Elle’s Studio gift certificate. We’ll announce the winner next Thursday, when we introduce the new sketch for the week!
THANK YOU to all that played along last week!!! The randomly selected winner is… Suzanna Lee.
