Today’s sketch was inspired by Martha’s What’s a grit? layout from out DT gallery:

I love the layered chevrons on the layout, however I changed it up a bit and used triangles for the sketch:

Our monthly kit and your stash!

Hello there, friends and happy Monday! Today I’m super excited to introduce a new idea… Something fun to show you how well Elle’s Studio products mix with your stash at home and hopefully get you in the mood to scrap.

This month, Elle’s Studio introduced the new version of our Monthly kits; exclusive tags, diecuts and vellum pieces that work wonderfully with your stash for your everyday crafting. Today, I want to show you how I mixed the May 2013 Kit + some stash to create my very own papercrafting kit:

I created a Spring layout and was happy to see how very well all these collections mixed. The colors were perfect and the patterns complimented each other beautifully.

I mixed brand new Elle’s Studio May Kit and Saltwater, and Studio Calico Atlantic, newish: Dear Lizzy Lucky Charm, Basic Grey Basics & Hipster, and oldies but goodies: wood veneer sheet, glassine envelopes, stamps, twine.

I also got a head start on a Summer mini album using the same kit and can’t wait to start filling it up!

Our May 2013 kit is almost sold out and once it does, we won’t  be restocking, so make sure you grab one while supplies last! Then, make sure you  mark your calendar for the 10th of June – new kits launch on the 10th of every month at a special launch day price of $9.99, after that the price goes to $11.99.

And, make sure you post your creations to our gallery – we can’t wait to see what you make with your kits!

Sketch Thursday

Guess what? It’s Thursday! And of course, we have another sketch for you to have fun with. I’m going to let you in a little secret. Today’s process was a little backwards. As soon as I received my wonderful box of brand new goodies from Elle, I ripped open the box (oh, who am I kidding, I actually opened the box very carefully 😛), started creating and this layout happened:
[Supplies: Cameron Collection– coming soon!]

and then, I thought this would make a great sketch. Right? Right. Glad we agree 🙂

So… here’s the challenge to you: create a layout inspired by today’s sketch, upload it to our Member’s Gallery and post a link here for a chance to win a $10 gift certificate to the Shop! A random winner will be selected and announced next Thursday.

Last week’s randomly selected winner is… Michelle Y.

Project Life

This week’s Project Life covers the week of April 29- May 5th.

This was a typical week for us!  Many school activities, time spent outside, and family time.

For this week’s spread I used the new Elle’s Studio May 2013 Kit exclusively.  I had MORE than enough tags and embellishments to complete the spread.
One item I LOVED was the vellum Photo Strips.  I used them on quite a few photos for journaling spots.
I also used the Cameron Alphabet Stamp for lettering and the text box on my date pocket.    This tag kit is beyond perfect for Project Life!

We want to feature your Project Life album!  During the last week of each month we will be featuring a couple Project Life spreads that caught our eye in the Member Gallery.  We will be posting Project Life spreads on our blog tomorrow!   If your spread is featured we will be sending you a $5 gift card to use in our store.   Good Luck!

Project Life was created by Becky Higgins as a way to simplify how you document life and preserve memories. Photo pockets used in my Project Life album are created by Becky and can be found here.  You can read of all the Elle’s Studio Project Life posts here.

1. Why did you start scrapbooking and how did you get started?

I started scrapbooking the “real” way in the summer of 2000.  I’d always been a collector of memorabilia and photos… it was just displayed on my closet door as a teenager.   I discovered our hobby as I was waiting in the check out lane at Wal-Mart.  There was a special issue by Better Homes and Gardens of Scrapbooks Etc.  I dove in and didn’t look back.  I sought out any product and inspiration I could find.  I bought back issues of Creating Keepsakes and was consumed with soaking in as much information as I could.  My love of paper, pens, and stickers finally had a purpose!   That summer I also discovered www.twopeasinabucket.com and started posting every layout I made.  A year later I was asked to be a Garden Girl which has turned into an almost 12 year ride!
2.  Where do you scrapbook?

I’ve scrapped in a variety of places throughout the years.  From a storage container. to a closet, and then several loft areas.  Seems like that’s been a prerequisite in our last few houses!  This is about as clean as it gets!

Do you recored every moment or just special ones?
I do not record every moment.  When I first started scrapbooking I did… I was looking for things to scrapbook at that point.  Once the first kid came along I was stressing myself out.   Trying to get it all scrapped…deciding what album it should go in.. should I do duplicate pages??? That took the fun right out of scrapbooking for me.  I decided that I was going to just keep doing what I loved.  Making pages with photos I loved and the stories I wanted to remember.   I don’t worry now about what album or order, or even getting it all done.  There is no way!  I want to keep loving this hobby and for me that means just letting go and SCRAPBOOKING!

Do you have a scrapbooking goal?

My goal is to keep enjoying the hobby.  A few years ago I realized that I have to love the layouts I’m making or it’s no fun.  That means sometimes saying no to opportunities, but that’s okay.  I don’t enjoy making things that I won’t want to keep.  There is nothing like the high of finishing a layout you love… that’s my goal every time.

We are giving away Shannon’s favorite Elle’s Studio products to one winner!
