sketch thursday

Happy 4th and welcome back to Sketch Thursday! Today, we have a fun sketch inspired by Martha’s Love layout from June’s DT gallery.

I loved the vertical lines so I cut strips of different patterned papers and then sew down the middle.

To give it some dimension, I curled the paper up a little and added the picture with foam adhesive. I also, replaced the ‘confetti’ on the polaroid frame with sequins.

Now it’s your turn! Make a project inspired by this week’s sketches, upload it to our member’s gallery and post a link here for a chance to win a $10 GC to the Elle’s Studio Shop.

Last week’s randomly selected winner is… Neela.

Congratulations!! Please email michelle@shopellesstudio.com the following info:

Project Life

This week’s Project Life covers the week of June 3rd-9th as well as my album cover page.
I have been dividing my Project Life albums into three different albums.  The first from January to May (last day of school), the second May to late August (first day of school), and August to December.  Although the first and second books get pretty full, it seems like a natural way to divide the year.  I love having a separate album that is just for summer.
My cover page for my summer Project Life is very similar to last years cover page, however it’s everyone in my family, not just me.   It was fun trying to get this shot.  I enlarged it to a 12×12 and divided it into the pockets.  I layered the Pennant and wood veneer on top the pockets so that it would overlap
This was an interesting week to document– half of the week was our road trip home from Florida, the other half was a blur of laundry, unpacking bags, and getting back into the swing of things.  But there was lots of good stuff to document.

I loved using lots of Saltwater in this spread.  I highlighted the beautiful mint color that is found in this collection along with orange, and yellow.  Love this combo!

Once we returned home I didn’t take many photos for the remainder of the week!  However it gave me the opportunity to journal and write about what we did.

We want to feature your Project Life album!  During the last week of each month we will be featuring a couple Project Life spreads that caught our eye in the Member Gallery.  We will be posting Project Life spreads on our blog tomorrow!   If your spread is featured we will be sending you a $5 gift card to use in our store.   Good Luck!

Project Life was created by Becky Higgins as a way to simplify how you document life and preserve memories. Photo pockets used in my Project Life album are created by Becky and can be found here.  You can read of all the Elle’s Studio Project Life posts here.

Say hello to our new design team and new Elle’s Studio team members!

Today’s an exciting day – we get to announce the new Design Team Members that will be inspiring you for the next six months! Because of time constraints this time around we did not hold a DT call and ended up emailing each lady directly asking if they wanted to be apart of our next design team and we were so excited when they emailed us back a “yes!”. Each one of these ladies has caught our eye and inspired us in one way or the other and we can’t wait for them to inspire you!

Before we introduce the new ladies, we want to take a moment and give a BIG thank the last team – we had so much fun with them and we feel so blessed by all the amazing work and inspiration they brought us each month! Each month I was so thankful for ALL of their incredible support – so THANK YOU ladies, love you all!! The time always goes way to fast!

As we say goodbye to our current team, we want to welcome in our new team! They’ve each given us three fun facts to share about them, too! Please welcome these next 8 ladies to the Elle’s Studio Design Team:

– I got my dimple courtesy of my oldest sister when I was five (thanks to dancing and doing cartwheels to ABBA in the living room).
– My favorite ice cream is Marble Slab Amaretto with cookie dough and Skor. Try it. You’ll be hooked.
– I believe the best camera is the one you have with you! For example, on my iPhone I currently have 1,995 photos, 16 videos, 273 photos processed in PicTapGo and >50% of my current apps are photography related. I also sometimes use it as a phone 🙂

–  From the first sign of warm air until the 1st frost, I refuse to wear socks.
– The beach is my favorite place to be. I dream of living close enough to smell salt air everytime I open my door.
– My family will occasionally have a day in song where we have to sing everything to each other instead of saying it.

– I love animals! Although I am not particularly fond of spiders (especially when they run fast or jump), I would never kill one but carry it outside if I find one in the house.
– The filmed I watched the most is Dirty Dancing – especially the last 20 minutes – nobody puts baby in a corner, right?!
– I must be the worst bowler ever – I just can throw or roll a ball in a straight line – well, you can´t have it all, can you? 🙂

Visit Janna’s blog, here.

– I can sleep through atomic alarm clocks and earthquakes. I also sleep with a sleep mask.  I will freak out if it goes missing so I have 3.
– I am adopted and I know all of my biological family.
– I am addicted to bravo. It’s pretty much the only channel I watch. Well besides doc mcstuffins, sophia the first and jack and the neverland pirates, but whatever.

Visit Jen’s blog, here.

– I love my camera.  I love to take photos of everyday life and capture candid moments.  In fact if I ever go somewhere without it I kind of feel a bit like I forgot something!  Thus I have an iPhone and a small camera in my purse ‘just in case’.
– I am a grade one teacher but I also have a BSc(Dietetics) so not only do I know about good nutrition I can teach/preach it to my kids – which of course all their life they didn’t like.  As teenagers, they make good healthy food choices so I know I taught them well 😉
– I love old, shabby things.  When I ‘grow up’ I dream of living in an old farmhouse somewhere.

Visit Laurel’s blog, here.

– I knew that I would marry my husband from the moment I met him.  We’ve been together for ten years and married for six years and have two amazing children.
– Since graduating high school, I have never lived in the same house for more than two years.  I’m hoping our current home is our forever home.  I’m a little tired of packing and unpacking boxes!!
– I was in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade when I was in high school.  My grandmother was our group chaperone for the trip.  It was pretty awesome!!

Visit Stephanie’s blog, here.

– My favorite sport to play is tennis. Currently, however, taekwondo is taking up a good share of my exercise time. I test for my First Degree black belt this month! Eep.
– When I am not creating, I enjoy time with my family and friends at our cabin on the lake. Summer is my favorite season for this reason. (Just simply not enough days in it!)
– I have a “Secret Candy Stash” in my scrap space that has to be moved frequently as my boys and hubs are on to me. 😉 One day a few years back my youngest happened to come upon the said “Stash” looking for Scotch tape. He went to my hubby and said, “Mommy has a stash Daddy. Can I have one too?” And so it goes…

Visit Suz’s blog, here.

– I am mommy to rambunctious, creative and fun-Saadiq (12) and Synai (9).
– I’m obsessed with anything pink, camouflage or leopard.
– I can’t live without my iPhone, Instagram or froyo.

We are excited to have Melanie back and part of our team again! She’ll be helping us out with social media (twitter, facebook, pinterest, etc.) contests/giveaways, and some special monthly posts here on the blog, too. And, we are also excited to welcome Megan to our team! She was on our last design team and her photography really stood out to us. She’ll be helping us out with photography (you’ve already seen her work photographing our monthly kits!) and she’ll have a fun blog series here, too, very soon.

There’s lots of fun things in store that have been in the planning stages for months now and it’s so fun to see them starting to come to life! We hope you enjoy all the new things and we just can’t thank you enough for your support!

Project Life Member Gallery Spotlight

It’s the end of the month and we are excited to share three Project Life layouts that caught our eye in the Member Gallery!
I have been loving all of JenTapler ‘s Project Life layouts posted in our Member Gallery– and especially this one. She used our May 2013 kit and paired it with various pieces from the Cameron Collection– perfection!

MollyFrances created this fun spread!  She also used bits and pieces from the May 2013 kit and also from our Limited edition Serendipity Vellum tags.  I love the bright colors and the stitched ampersand!

This layout is by damitaprilurcool— and oh how I love the pops of pink and the way she separated the hear, photo, and memorabilia into two pockets.  I also love her use of the Disney Land map.  So much good stuff in this layout!

Congrats ladies!  Please contact michelle@shopellesstudio.com with the following information:
