Project Life

This week’s Project Life covers the week of June 24-30.
For this week’s spread I used primarily the Elle’s Studio July 2013 kit, along with bits and pieces from the June kit, May kit, and Saltwater.
This summer I have been working a few weeks behind (which is totally to be expected), but I have to say, these kits make it SUPER easy to get caught up fast!   I love that I can find pieces from each kit that work well together (although the kits all have a completely different look).
This week was full with basketball camp for my son, swimming lessons, (another!) concert, a quick trip to michigan for my husband, time with friends, and movies.  Is anyone else finding that there is SO much to document over the summer?  The days seem full.

I love the vellum journaling card in the July Kit and decided to layer it on top of my photo pocket page.

While my husband was out of town during the weekend we “redesigned” a play closet for my daughter.  The journaling was stapled to the front of the pocket (make sure not to staple the pocket completely shut.   This way you can still slip a photo behind it for the next week).   I added washi tape above the staple for decor.

When you life the journaled vellum you can see a photo of our completed play area.  This was a fun way to use the vellum piece and add some texture outside of the pockets.

We want to feature your Project Life album!  During the last week of each month we will be featuring a couple Project Life spreads that caught our eye in the Member Gallery.  We will be posting Project Life spreads on our blog tomorrow!   If your spread is featured we will be sending you a $5 gift card to use in our store.   Good Luck!

Our Monthly kit + Your Stash

Hi guys! I’m happy to be back with another edition of Our kit + Your stash, where we show you how well Elle’s Studio products mix with your stash at home and hopefully inspire you to scrap.

I love how the Elle’s Studio July 2013 Kit has the perfect mix of bright and soft colors. I mixed it with Amy Tangerine’s Sketchbook, BasicGrey’s Carte Postale and Studio Calico’s Atlantic:

I wanted to create a layout that showed the mix of colors so I hand drew & cut shapes then replaced with different papers to create a fun background. I then layered tags, stickers and candy buttons to frame the picture.
As always, we’d love to see what you create with our Monthly kit so make sure to upload your projects to our Member’s Gallery. Have a great week!

Welcome back to Sketch Thursday! Today’s sketch was inspired by Corrie’s A Happy Girl layout from the DT gallery.

I can’t wait to see what you come up with! Make a project inspired by this week’s sketch, upload it to our member’s gallery and post a link here for a chance to win a $10 gift certificate to the Elle’s Studio Shop.

Project Life

This week’s Project Life covers the week of June 10-16th.
Last week I shared a spread that was made primarily with the Saltwater Collection.   Well, today I am sharing another layout that uses Saltwater— i just love how these two separate weeks use the same collection but look totally different.  There are so many beautiful color combinations you can highlight in this collection!

This week felt like our first week of summer after vacation.  And it was full with VBS, errands, swimming, loosing teeth, library books, Father’s Day, hiking, and a concert.

I included the promo piece for the summer reading program at our library on the right side.  I loved that the colors on this perfectly matched the bright colors in Saltwater.  It was the inspiration as I chose other colors for this week’s spread.

Good Luck!

Capture Life – July 8th

Summer Supper – What’s on Your Plate?

The sun is beginning to set after a long hot day of swimming at the pool or laying on the beach. It’s time to end the day with a summer favorite…
Whether your Summer memories include hotdogs roasted over a campfire, followed by gooey s’mores, or a fresh selection of fruits and veggies from your local farmers market; let’s talk about capturing those simple life moments.
Many nights my family can be found sitting around our fire pit; taking turns cooking the hotdogs and lining up the makings of s’mores. It’s often just before dusk; which presents some great opportunities to do a bit of playing with my camera settings.
Canon 50mm f/3.2 1/400 ISO 800
I prefer to us an fstop  between 1.4 & 3.2 when I’m shooting at dusk, as I love the texture it creates.
And yes, my kids now know that if they just hold still for a quick photo I’ll turn the camera the other way much quicker. LOL!
Canon 50mm f/1.4 1/400 ISO 4000
For the last three images you will notice I used a much higher ISO. It’s simply because these were taken later which meant again less light.
Canon 50mm f/1.4 1/400 ISO 4000
Canon 50mm f/1.4 1/400 ISO 4000
So, now we have those photos; let’s get them on a page and our memories recorded!
I used a variety of pieces from the Saltwater Collection as well as a few sneaks of the July tag kit! Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the 10th when this kit is revealed along with the new design team gallery!

I mix in a few black & white photos along side color prints when I can to provide some fun contrast.

I hope you have been inspired to capture your Summer food favorites today!
Coming up on July 22 with Capture Life – Becoming an Angler – A Different Point of View.
I’d love to hear what tips, tricks, or prompts you’d like me to cover in the future!
Now go on … Get out and Capture Life!
