Product Spotlight :: Exclusive Kit Add ons

Each month brings not only an exciting new Tag Kit, but recently we’ve introduced Exclusive Add ons! This month included both a Wood Venner set as well as a very versatile Stamp Set!

I pulled a few projects from the amazing Design Team gallery that show off those great products! Wow, what amazing talent!

PRODUCT-COLLAGEI was inspired by how Waisam Ho, used the wood veneer piece directly in the Project Life pocket. It fits perfectly! I love that piece and really wanted to use it on my April title page. To change it up a bit I added the “today” paper over top; placed just right so I could still read the “in my life” portion. To be honest, my first thought was “I can’t cover the wood veneer up!”. But, something I have learned over the years of scrapbooking is to JUST USE it! You can love a piece or a product, but if you save it for that “perfect” layout it may sadly remain in a drawer for way too long. So, in the end, I covered up most of the cut out portion, but what I ended up with I love for this certain page! Moral of the story: think out side the box and don’t be afraid to use the product. There is no better way to highlight your favorite piece than by actually including it in your album!

IMG_8190IMG_8197One thing I love about stamps; well besides the fact that you can use them over and over again, is the ability to create a visual layer without bulk. I stamped the “noteworthy” image and added my letters ontop. I outlined them with a black Sharpie to help them pop even more. Another simple way to add depth. IMG_8199 IMG_8201 IMG_8202

Don’t forget these Add Ons each month are limited quanities! Once they are gone they are gone. So, if you haven’t snagged these up I would suggest doing so today!

And don’t forget to upload your projects to our member gallery! We love to see how you are using the Elle’s Studio products. You may just be highlighted during one of the “Project Highlight” posts and win a gift certificate!

SKETCH THURSDAY

Today’s sketch was inspired by Patricia’s I Still Haven’t Found… layout from last DT month’s gallery.

Jenny said: I loved this week’s sketch! The small clustering surrounded by embellishments was right down my ally. The background was something I was drawn to as well. I used the Everyday Moments collection, which worked perfectly with the sketch and for my photo.

 Valerie:

Valerie said: I was really drawn to this sketch when I saw it because I felt that it would be perfect for an Instagram photo to shine on! I love using Instagram to highlight my everyday photos that I take or that my kids message me from their phones. The smaller square photos capture the everyday perfectly, and since I don’t do pocket page type scrapbooking, this is my way of capturing my everyday moments! This layout features Elle’s Studio Love You More Collection.

For a chance to win a $10 gift certificate to the Shop create a project inspired by this sketch, upload it to our Member Gallery and post a link here. A random winner will be selected and announced with next week’s sketch.

Last week’s randomly selected winner is…sillypea!

Tag You’re It : 04.15.14

Today’s Tag Your It shows a bit of how I go about planning out my Project Life pages.

I start by pulling a bunch of bits and pieces together that I think will coordinate and compliment the photos.IMG_9043 I then lay the photos on top of the actual PL protector to get an idea of how I want the design to lay out.IMG_9051Next comes all those fun bits and pieces (I don’t glue anything down just yet.) IMG_9053I then work one “pocket” at a time. (This is also where my tag is going to come into play this month.) IMG_9096I’m going to use layers of the tags from the April Tag Kit and the Digital Cuts to create a pocket for my tag to slip into. This is the perfect way to add a bit more journaling where you may have ran out of room otherwise. IMG_9098Simple machine stitching along the two sides creates the “pocket”.  IMG_9099I leave the top and bottom unattached because the tag I am using is longer than the striped pocket piece. IMG_9103Now the fun layering begins! Just make sure the bottom portion of your layers stay unattached so you can freely move your journaling tag in and out.IMG_9105 IMG_9106The Fun Fact piece was a bit to big but I really wanted it on here. So, I cut it in two and attached part on the top layer and part on the bottom layer. It’s still readable yet functional! IMG_9109 IMG_9112 Once my tag is slipped into place I wrote “pull” so that hopefully as my family is going through the book many years from now they know that there is more to explore!IMG_9116Again, I work one pocket at a time and then take a look at the completed page to see where I need to add a few embellishments or more journaling. IMG_9126 IMG_9130 IMG_9131 IMG_9132 IMG_9134 IMG_9137I hope this inspires you to create a hidden journaling pocket on your next layout or Project Life page!

Happy Creating! ~Megan

PROJECT LIFE

This week’s Project Life covers the week of March 31- April 6th: our Spring Break week.
Instead of being overwhelmed with all the photos from our trip, I decided to focus on showing the relationships developed, food we ate, and a few things we did while we were in Texas.Image 15
I primarily used Elle’s Studio’s April Kit to document this week.   I had an orange theme going, but then pulled some of the greens and yellows in the kit.   The Happy Day wood veneer was perfect for highlighting how we felt about all the people we spent time with on Spring Break.
Image 16
I also added some pieces from the Saltwater collection— the “hello vacation” card can be used anytime!
Image 17
We want to feature your Project Life album!  During the last week of each month we will be featuring a couple Project Life spreads that caught our eye in the Member Gallery.  We will be posting Project Life spreads on our blog tomorrow!   If your spread is featured we will be sending you a $5 gift card to use in our store.   Good Luck!

Capture Life :: 04.14.14

Today, we’re talking about what I like to call, “shooting from the hip” style photos.

It’s when the kids are running everywhere and you and your camera need to be moving quickly! It’s about capturing the moment, the movement, the excitement, and most of all; the story. It’s about letting go of the perfectly framed photo, because those are most often the photos that end up telling the story so well.

IMG_0916

As you can see, we recently had a chance to go visit a few baby goats. This event was one of the moments where “shooting from the hip” came into play. Between the goats and three kids there was alot to try to capture. I love it!

For example in this photo, the kids (of the human sorts) were chasing the little goats all around and I love how this captures the goats creative escape.

Everyone was on the move …IMG_0941

Until … they gave up …IMG_0955

and hid …IMG_0973

It was a perfect afternoon.

By adding bits of purple I brought the focus towards Ella in her cute little Spring jacket. It’s a color I don’t find myself using often in my scrapbooks, but I think maybe that’s because it’s not a color that is typically prominent in collections. But, you know what, I am LOVING it! I’m hoping to see it pop up more and more. Thank you Pantone color of the year!

Why did you start scrapbooking and how did you get started?

I started when I was about 15.  My mom did a little bit of scrapbooking (she no longer does) and would take me to a local scrapbook store.  I scrapbooked typical teen things like friends, family vacations, etc.  I did that through high school.  After my son was born (4 years ago), I began digital scrapbooking.  Then I rediscovered paper and fell in love with traditional paper, scissors scrapbooking again.

Image 8

What do you listen to when scrapbooking?

I listen to Pandora and sometimes nothing.

Image 9

What is your favorite color combinations?

There are so many! Aqua/Yellow, Gold/Pink, Pink/Yellow/Orange

Image 4

Do you record every moment or just the special ones?

I am in-between every photo moment and special ones.  I do not feel that every photo needs to be scrapbooked, but I want to capture the everyday so that my family can remember the mundane moments too.

Image 7

Do you have a scrapbooking goal?

Yes.  My goal is to have at least a yearly scrapbook and each child a continuous scrapbook album.
