Stamping Highlight by Daniela Dobson

Welcome to the Elle’s Studio blog post today. It’s Daniela here highlighting the Notes From Today stamp set along with Work Hard stamp set and our exclusive August kit and extras.  This little layout is a part of my travelers notebook called “Hello Summer”. I have been documenting my summer for several weeks now, with different prompts each week.  This page is titled “day in the life”.

Day-in-the-life-by-Daniela-DobsonProducts used: Notes From Today stamp, Work Hard stamp, Shine Bright stamp, Sunny Days 6×6 Paper Stack, August 2016 Kit, Let’s Eat Bits and Pieces, Work Hard Journaling Tags, Letter & Number Stickers Pink, and Sunny Days Small Blank Labels

I layered my photo on a piece of patterned paper from Sunny Days 6×6 Paper Stack on the left side. Underneath I used the Notes From Today stamp set and a clock from Work Hard stamp. The little squares with the check mark were perfect and I used those to describe each photo above.

Day-in-the-life-close-by-Daniela-Dobson
On the right bottom of the page I created a little pocket using my sewing machine to tuck in little tags I created. I stamped on the outside with a large stamp from Work Hard stamp set. I took several tags from Work Hard Journaling Tags and added my journaling for that day. For the tabs I used die cuts from the August 2016 Kit that I stapled to the top.

Here is the front of my Travelers Notebook that I handmade myself. I used a little label from Sunny Days Small Blank Labels and a stamp from Shine Bright stamp set. The front is printed on my printer and then I applied Deco Foil with the laminator (flamingo and circles at bottom). The polka dots and “hello” are painted with watercolor.

These stamps are so versatile and I love using them. They are easily incorporated into any type of project. Thanks for stopping by and don’t forget to share your projects with stamps!

Scrapbook Layout with special guest Andrea Gray

Today we have another project from our guest designer for August, Andrea Gray! This time, Andrea is working her magic on a fun scrapbook layout inspired by one tag in the August exclusive kit. Let’s have a look!

Hi everyone! It’s Andrea here and I’m back to share a 12” x 12” layout with you today! When I flipped through the August exclusive kit’s 3” x 4” tags, I found the “focusing on” tag and immediately thought of the perfect photo to document: a photo of me daydreaming about cute frames!

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-18
When I saw the little wood veneer glasses in the Sunny Days wood veneers, it completely sealed the deal! The story is that I have always wanted glasses but have 20/20 vision. I know, I know – poor me! LOL. But now that there are so many cute frames available, it makes my envy even stronger!

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-19
My process for starting a layout is typically the same. It starts with the photo and then I select supplies to complement it. I like looking beyond the obvious colors in the photo. For example, the glasses I have on are teal, which is perfect because it coordinates with the patterned paper in the Sunny Days collection. But check out the background of the photo: I spy woodgrain. I decided to use the full 12” x 12” Adventures woodgrain paper from Sunny Days paper collection as the background and use the Sunny Days Stars teal sunburst paper to mat the photo so the woods didn’t blend together. I wanted them to connect visually, but not touch.

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-20Supplies used: August exclusive kit, Sunny Days 12” x 12” paper collection, Sunny Days 6” x 6” paper stack, letter and number stickers- pink, Little Moments Word Labels, Notes from Today stamp, and Work Hard stamp.

From there, I continued with the grid-style format using contrasting colors for matting the focal pieces. For lighter tags, like the grid, I kept the matting light so it stood out against the woodgrain, and for darker elements, like my photo and the heart tag, I used lighter colors to back them.

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-21
EllesStudio-AndreaGray-24
Keeping the embellishments to a minimum was important since the woodgrain pattern can feel quite heavy. To achieve this, I added a small cluster of tags to the bottom left of the grid journaling tag and used a wood veneer star from the Sunny Days wood veneers to balance it all out.

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-22
My favorite part of finishing a layout is adding tiny little shots of color here and there so I added some coordinating enamel dots, a tiny sentiment strip and colored in a box from the checklist!

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-trythis2
EllesStudio-AndreaGray-23
And that’s all I have for ya today! See you again next week for my final guest post – and pssst – we’ll be talking about planners! Happy scrapping!

AndreaGrayHi & hello from Northern California! You might know me around the crafty world as retrohipmama and I am super stoked to be a guest designer this month! Outside of scrapbooking I love to do different crafty things, jump on the trampoline with my two boys, scroll Instagram (I’m always there so follow me @retrohipmama), eat dark chocolate, have conversations with my husband in movie quotes or song lyrics and watch football. I am currently on the Illustrated Faith and Gossamer Blue design teams and love inspiring others to make stuff! My style has definitely evolved over the almost 20 years I have been memory keeping, but my layouts always come out clean and colorful and full of stories. This summer I am teaching myself piano and going on a lot of different crafty adventures!

Be sure to follow Andrea at her blog, on Facebook, and YouTube, and stay tuned for one more project from her right here on the ES blog!

“You” scrapbooking layout by Jill Sprott

Do you ever encounter reluctant or challenging subjects for your photos? My mischievous husband dons a silly expression or feigns a grumpy face whenever I try to take his picture. When this happened again recently, I didn’t let that stop me from documenting his “true” self on the page.

You-Elles-Studio-Jill-LO-BLOGSupplies used: Elle’s Studio August 2016 Kit; “You” Acrylic; Heart Circle Acrylics; School Days Stamp; Sunny Days 12 x 12 Paper Collection.

In fact, these two oddball photos — the best of the bunch I attempted to take — became the inspiration for the layout elements that I chose, including the Elle’s Studio August kit and extras, which I paired with stamps from the new “School Days” mini-collection and paper from the “Sunny Days” collection.

You-Elles-Studio-Jill-LO-BLOG-1
After using various hues of blue to stamp the pie charts on a sheet of white cardstock, I stitched loops around the stamped images, and then arranged the photos and accents. Over one of the pie charts, I arranged the days of the week, cut from a journaling card in the August kit.

You-Elles-Studio-Jill-LO-BLOG-2
The days, set against the backdrop of differently sized pies, represent the constancy of this guy’s love regardless of his mood or what is happening in our lives. Over a second pie chart, I added my journaling, which reinforces that idea.

You-Elles-Studio-Jill-LO-BLOG-3
For the first time, this month’s kit features its die-cut shapes on sheets. I took advantage of the negative space left behind after popping out the shapes, and included the sheet behind the photos on the page. I love how the colors peek through!

While I was working on this page, my husband stopped by to take a look at it, and he chuckled. Hopefully now he’s realizing that regardless of the faces he makes, he can’t avoid a place in this scrapbooker’s albums — or heart.

Everyday Love scrapbook layout with Allie Stewart

Hello there! Allie here, and today I have a layout to share with you using the Sunny Days collection and the new August Exclusive products! The exclusive extras in the shop this month are some of my favorites yet–I especially love the acrylic hearts and the wood veneers!

EllesStudio-AllieStewart-TheseDays01
To create this layout, I used my Silhouette to cut this quilt-inspired cut file from white cardstock. I chose my favorite patterns from the Sunny Days 6″x6″ Paper Stack and patterned papers, and backed the openings while alternating colors.

EllesStudio-AllieStewart-TheseDays02
Once I had the background created, I printed out a photo strip of pictures. I added die cuts from the August Exclusive kit, as well as the hearts and wood veneers. My title was the adorable new Everyday Love acrylic! I kept the embellishing on the simpler side in order to focus on the fun background.

EllesStudio-AllieStewart-TheseDays03
I hope you feel inspired to use the new August Exclusive items! I think they are perfect with the Sunny Days collection, as well as on their own. Thanks for joining me today!

Layout tutorial with Michelle Wedertz

Hi guys! Michelle here with you on this lovely day to show you a quick and easy way to document a fun moment using bits and pieces from all of the latest collections. Now, if you are anything like me, your attention span is short when it comes to scrappy supplies and you are always ready to jump on the latest collections! And if you are like me, you end up with quite a little stash of products! Luckily I have found that the collections from Elle’s Studio along with the exclusive kits and extras all coordinate really well together, making it a breeze to pick out some supplies, create, and make a dent in my stash. Today I am going to show you how I picked out supplies from various collections and kits and pulled together a quick layout documenting a certain friendly giant!

EllesStudio-MichelleWedertz-Fave01
Since the beginning of the year, the girls and I have made it part of our nighttime routine to read a chapter or two from a “big” book during storytime. Ronald Dahl made an early appearance in the lineup and the kids and I have been hooked on his stories ever since. So of course, we had to get in The BFG before it hit the theaters! To document this little story I wanted to create a 6×8 layout and I turned to my Elle’s Studio products and pulled out bits and pieces from all the latest releases, including this month’s kit and the Read Mini-collection!

EllesStudio-MichelleWedertz-Fave02
When cropping down your layout size by several inches, you have to consider your picture size. Occasionally I will want a big impact with the photo and I will print it as a 4×4 or 4×6. For this layout I wanted to make sure and leave room for all the elements that I had pulled out and chose to print my photo at roughly 3×3.

One of the things I have learned about creating on a smaller size is that I do my best when I keep it simple and so I went with a classic vertical design, lining up all my elements straight down the middle. To create my layers behind my photo I reached for the Sunny Days 6×6 Paper Pack which is probably my most used product from the collection. I love that I can quickly flip through the pack and see all the patterns. I included a sheet of vellum, tore the edge of one paper to add a little texture, and stapled my layers all together.

EllesStudio-MichelleWedertz-Fave03
After the foundation of my layout is complete, I dug into the tags from the August Kit and layered those around the photos aiming for balance. Often times if I layer elements on one side I can find that my project looks “off” and this is usually remedied by adding or moving some elements to the opposite side of the page. For my design, I balanced out the heavy top left with a tag and wood veneer on the bottom right.

EllesStudio-MichelleWedertz-Fave04
Here’s the final project:

EllesStudio-MichelleWedertz-Fave05Supplies: August Kit; Good Times Wood Veneer Flags; Letters & Numbers: Pink; Read Journaling Cards; Read Stamp; and Sunny Days 6×6 Paper Pack.

We’d love to see how you are using these new collections with the monthly kit – when posting on Instagram, make sure you use the #EllesStudio hashtag for a chance to be featured on our feed!

Pocket pages with special guest Andrea Gray

By now you’ve probably had some time to check out the bright, fun, August exclusive kit– a perfect choice to document the end of your summer! Who could be more perfect to work with these products than Andrea Gray, a.k.a. Retrohipmama? We love her colorful, clean style, and today she’s here to share some amazing pocket page spreads with us! Let’s take a look:

Hi & hello – Andrea here! It’s such an honor to be guesting here on the Elle’s Studio blog for the month of August! I have been enamored by Elle’s Studio products for years and am so happy that I get to share my projects with you!

This post will focus on two different pocket layouts – because pockets are really my jam. It’s where I thrive and find myself getting the most creative. There’s something super comforting about everything being tucked away in these little pockets! So let’s talk about that – about all of these little spaces and how they can come together and work as a team!

This layout records a day spent with my parents for Father’s Day. (Hubby stayed home to have some quiet – my gift to him!) The colors in the August exclusive kit are just so perfect for the different shades of blue in the photos. I also used some pieces from the Everyday printables and the Work Hard journaling tags that added a contrasting color and helped me tell the story.

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-01
EllesStudio-AndreaGray-02
EllesStudio-AndreaGray-04

For this layout I embellished a lot and a little – depending on what the pocket needed. I used this 4” x 6” tag from the Sunny Days More Sunshine paper to add a title and a small banner at the top from the Sunny Days puffy stickers, and the currently tag from the August kit.

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-05
A simple title using the pink letter and number stickers was a perfect addition to this photo.

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-06
I added a heart die-cut and the You acrylic piece along with the “these days” die-cut that emphasized how much I loved having my parents in town for the month.

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-07
Journaling tags from the kit and Everyday printables with a lot of open space allowed me to add some smaller 2” x 2” photos.

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-09
Since we spent a majority of the day with my parents, I used the hourly card to recall how we spent our time. This card didn’t need anything other than the text.

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-10
This starry card from the Everyday printables was perfect for a selfie and a camera die cut. And the DETAILS card needed nothing more than a circle from the Sunny Days wood veneers.

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-08
EllesStudio-AndreaGray-trythis
My second layout is all about work so I used items from the new mini collection – aptly named Work Hard.

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-11
I have a lot of jobs, as do most of us. I work full-time, then I have house, mommy and wife duties, as well as creative jobs and tasks. So, I compiled several photos that represented all of these jobs and made one fun layout!

Using the “today at work” tag from the Work Hard journaling tags, I documented the boys’ first day of summer. I was sad that I didn’t have 2 teenagers to take to school on that day.

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-12
EllesStudio-AndreaGray-13

I love to save memes and images from Pinterest to use in my albums and I’ve been hanging onto this emoji one (not to offend men who go through emotions during the day – I just liked that it was an accurate representation of all the things we girls go through each day.) I also had this quote about kids and laundry that was the perfect color to add to this layout.

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-14
The teal, red and yellow color scheme is so up my alley, and I loved adding in punches of color to each card to make it flow and feel balanced. Since there are two cards with journaling on them in this row, I decided that the yellow card only needed a simple grey heart to avoid it feeling too busy.

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-15
Stamping on photos can be fun and annoying. If your ink is too slippery, your stamped image can look blurred – and that’s what happened to me on this photo of my work desk. So I used a black pen to trace over the stamped words from the Work Hard stamp.

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-16
Being honest in my layouts is a priority. I am not fulfilled by my 7-4 job. It feeds my family and provides benefits and stability. All important things, but I am not trying to climb ladders or become the CEO so I used these two acrylic hearts to represent how my heart feels about being a full-time worker outside the house.

EllesStudio-AndreaGray-17
I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing the pockets I made using the new August exclusive kit! See you again soon with some new projects!
