Kill Your September Kit with Melissa Mann

It’s that time of the month again! Our October kit is only one day away from its reveal, which means it is time to use up all of our September kit! Today Melissa Mann is sharing how she did that, with a bit of mixed-media fun included! Let’s take a look:

Welcome to the Elle’s Studio blog! This is Melissa with you today sharing a layout that I created using some of the leftover pieces of the September Kit and add-ons. This project was inspired by a layout created by a past Elle’s Studio design team member, Paige Evans!

Even after creating projects with my Elle’s Studio kits, I ALWAYS have many bits and pieces of the kit and add ons left over. I wanted to share the love I have for the awesome stamp sets that Elle has created in the past and worked several of these sets into my project.

I started with using a 12×12 piece of pattern paper from the Noteworthy 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection and added some fun paint streaks across the paper in tones of orange, yellow, pink, and blue. I really wanted a lot of color on the layout because I knew I was going to use a couple of black and white photos and wanted the contrast between the two. I layered a piece of vellum over part of the background paper to tone it down just a bit and allow the stamped hearts to stand out a little better. I stamped a ton of hearts using the XOXO Stamp, then I cut these hearts out and stitched them down in columns using my sewing machine.

I then layered some of the left over journaling tags and labels in the center of the layout to the right hand side and laid my two smaller photos on top. I tucked some extra stamped hearts and other labels around this and typed my journaling onto a September 2018 Print and Cut Labels. I decided to create a long title using the purple Hazel Alphabet Stickers that traveled down the length of the layout above and below my photo block.

Lastly, I further embellished the stamped hearts by adding stickers, additional stamping, epoxy stickers, and labels.

How are you using the leftover pieces from your kits? Why don’t you pull out some of your older stamp sets and give them some love and highlight them on your next project!

Thanks for stopping by!

Flipping Out with Suzanna Stein

There are so many different ways to add more photos and words to your projects while still keeping a clean, fresh design, and today Suzanna Stein is going to show us one that you will flip over! Let’s take a look:

Hey there, crafty friends! I’m so excited to share this project with you! Today I’m focusing on the Noteworthy collection, and more specifically, the journaling tags from the collection. Journaling tags are one of my favorite supplies for any project. They’re so versatile and I’m always thinking of new ways to incorporate them into my projects!

Supplies | Jane Alphabet Stickers — TealPuffy Heart Stickers — Summer MixShapes and Dots Puffy StickersHazel Alphabet StampDays of the Week StampNoteworthy Journaling Tags, Noteworthy Word LabelsNoteworthy Blank Labels, Noteworthy Bits and Pieces, Noteworthy Puffy Stickers, Noteworthy 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection

This project was such a fun one, right from the start. I decided to jump a bit out of my comfort zone by using a patterned background, and I skipped the mixed media I would normally add to go with a grid layout.

I chose a few photos I knew I wanted to document, printed them in 3″ x 4” size and decided to use the Noteworthy Journaling Tags to create flip-ups on my layout. By doing this, I was able to add 4 photos (and could have added even more!), a ton of journaling, plus some small details – all without making the layout feel overwhelming and crowded.

On the left journaling tag, I added my title, using the Days of the Week Stamp and Jane Alphabet Stickers. Then I added Noteworthy Word Labels and Bits and Pieces to embellish the area around the title.

When you flip the card up, there are two photos. I used folded Noteworthy Blank Labels to create the hinges. I simply folded the labels in half, then adhered it between the journaling tag and photo on the top, and behind the photo on the bottom.

I added a journaling tag to the center, without a hinge, and added the name of the event where the photos were taken, stamped with the Hazel Alphabet Stamp along with the date I created the layout.

For the right journaling tag, I chose one with a quote that summed up some of my feelings about the photos I was documenting, then embellished with die cuts from the Noteworthy Bits and Pieces.

Again, using the same hinge technique, I tucked two photos behind the journaling tag. You’ll notice that each of the four photos is numbered using a puffy sticker. Those numbers correspond with the journaling on the 4″ x 6” Noteworthy Journaling Tag below the photos.

Since I chose to only include four photos, I covered the fifth number on the tag with a die cut and used the space next to it to share my thoughts as a whole on the memories.

I finished the layout with some clusters of Puffy Heart Stickers, Noteworthy Puffy Stickers and die cuts. I also added a label over a journaling tag to add the name of the location, the city, and the dates the event took place.

This is a perfect way to add multiple photos to your layout, without the layout looking crowded. I could have added more flips to the other journaling tags on the layout to include even more photos!

I hope this gives you some inspiration on how to use your journaling tags for more than just pocket pages, and how to create multi-photo layouts that are easy on the eyes. I can’t wait to see what you choose to create next with your journaling tags!

Focusing on Digitals with Neela Nalam

Digital printables and cut files offer such a range of possibilities for your paper crafting projects, and today design team member Neela Nalam is showing us a fun and easy way to bring a lot of color to your next layout background with our September Print and Cut Labels. Let’s take a look!

On this project, I am focusing on the new September Print and Cut Labels that coordinate with the September 2018 Kit. You can stretch your supplies with digitals and give your projects a unique look as you can change sizes and colors and also adapt them to your needs. Here is my latest 8-1/2″ x 11″ layout:

Supplies | September 2018 KitSeptember Print and Cut Labels, September 2018 Digital Cut File, September LabelsHere and Now Stickers, Right Now StampNoteworthy Puffy StickersNoteworthy 12″ x 12″ Paper CollectionLive Laugh Love 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection

I first started off by printing out the colorful September Print and Cut Labels. I also considered cutting them out, but I wanted to use them as a unique way, so I decided to use the whole sheet as a background. I also love the labels with lines, which allowed me to easily add my journaling directly onto the tag. I found that to be such a great convenience.

I added a photo sized 4″x 9″ directly on top of the printed PDF label sheet. Then I decided to embellish the rest of the labels. I added some Noteworthy Puffy Stickers and die cuts from the September Kit. Using my digital die cutting machine, I then cut out the word “story” and the heart shape with the word “this” using the September 2018 Digital Cut File. I used this as title for my layout.

I also stamped on the labels using the Right Now Stamp and embellished the labels with phrase stickers. The possibilities using these labels and digital files are limitless and they are so much fun to use!

Be sure to grab the newest September Print and Cut Labels and Digital Cut File and make them your own on your next layout!

A “Good Eats” Story with Tracey Fox

Sometimes a story can come to life because of a new product sitting on your desk, and that’s what happened to Tracey Fox when she saw  the Good Eats Wood Veneer. We love what she documented with it—all of the food she ate on her wedding day!

Don’t you just love it when a product prompts you to scrapbook a story you might not have thought to tell otherwise? That’s what happened to me when I saw the Good Eats Wood Veneer. That fork, knife, and spoon and the “breakfast,” “lunch,” and “dinner” wood veneer pieces inspired me to document all the meals I ate on my wedding day back in 2009.

Supplies | September 2018 Kit, September LabelsGood Eats Wood Veneer, Black Puffy Alphabet StickersRight Now Stamp, Noteworthy Epoxy Stickers, Noteworthy Puffy Stickers, Noteworthy 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack

I knew I wanted to divide this layout into three sections: one for each meal of the day. So, I printed my photos small and laid them out in pairs so they staggered down the page. Next to each set of photos, I added journaling that I printed on clear label paper and cut into strips, and I added the Good Eats Wood Veneer pieces that best matched each story. I also added extra embellishments from the Noteworthy Epoxy Stickers and the Noteworthy Puffy Stickers.

To dress up the wood veneer fork, knife, and spoon, I masked their handles off with strips of washi tape, inked them with Versamark ink, and heat embossed them with silver glitter embossing powder. I love the touch of sparkle this added to my page—especially since it’s about a wedding story.

I used the “on the menu” phrase from the Right Now Stamp in order to list all the food that was served at our wedding. This is something I might never have thought to document in such detail in my scrapbooks if it hadn’t been for the great combination of Elle’s Studio products I used on this layout!

To bring some color and pattern into my page, I cut up scraps of patterned papers from the Noteworthy 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack, along with some of the patterned tags from the September Kit, and I arranged them in an angular frame all the way around the page. I love how the red, pink, purple, and black and white papers I chose go with the colors in my photos.

It was especially fun to create the title for the page using bits from the September Kit, September Labels, and some Black Puffy Alphabet Stickers!

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today and for checking out my layout! What food stories, big or small, would you tell using these cute Good Eats Wood Veneer embellishments? How do you let Elle’s Studio’s great story-prompting products inspire you to document your own memories? Take some time to browse the Elle’s Studio shop and check out the versatile themes that are available!

September Sketch Day with Jamie Leija

When using a sketch, don’t feel constrained by the dimensions or the size—use it to inspire any kind of project you want to create! Today, design team member Jamie Leija used our September layout sketch to inspire her traveler’s notebook spread. Let’s see how she changed the design to fit her project!

Hiya! It’s Jamie and I’m so excited to share my take on this month’s sketch:

The sketch is based off of the amazing “First Day” layout created by Amanda-jayne! I love the layering she added to her page and wanted to do the same for mine.

Supplies | Celebrate Journaling TagsMarch Labels, July Blank Label StickersHazel Alphabet Stickers — White, Celebrate Stamp,Title Builder Vol. 2 StampMini Dated StampNoteworthy Bits & PiecesNoteworthy 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack

I instantly knew that I wanted to adapt the sketch, which is based off of a 12″ x 12″ layout, down into a two page traveler’s notebook spread. It’s roughly 8″ x 8-1/2″.

Like the sketch, I divided my page into thirds. For the top third, I added a gray patterned paper from the Noteworthy 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack of repeating white hearts. And for the bottom two-thirds, I decided to make my own pattern using several colors of ink and the Celebrate Stamp. It’s what inspired this entire page!

We call our dog a party girl. She loves to play and is ready to at a moment’s notice. It’s something we’ve called her since she was small and I knew I wanted to tell this story when I saw that the Celebrate Stamp included the word “party”.

Where Amanda-jayne used a wood veneer that was text based, I stamped the word “party” over and over again on white cardstock using orange, teal and green ink. It has the same effect, but it is flat and therefore much easier as a notebook spread.

I added a cluster of patterned paper from the Noteworthy 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack and Celebrate Journaling Tags behind my photo, similar to the sketch. I love the layered look and that I was able to represent the colors of the ink again in my patterned paper choices.

The title, which I created by stamping “girl” from the Title Builder Vol. 2 Stamp onto a July Blank Label Sticker and adding the word “party” with the Hazel Alphabet Stickers, was shifted up and to the left and that left me room to add an additional photo. I was also able to add typed journaling strips below.

I eliminated the bottom strip from the layout, but did feel that I needed something in the bottom right corner. A die cut from the Noteworthy Bits & Pieces, label, and puffy star, along with some staples and my Mini Dated stamped title was just what the corner needed.

The beauty of the sketch is that you can make it your own! My notebook spread has the same vibe of the sketch, but the elements are slightly shifted around to accommodate the smaller size. The main photo has a cluster of layers behind it and the page was divided up into thirds. There’s a string of embellishments stretching from the left to the bottom right. There’s layers and graphic text. We can’t wait to see how you use this sketch for your next project!

We can’t wait to see how you use this sketch! Show us what you’ve created using this sketch by posting your layout on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio! You could win a feature here on our blog, as well as a gift certificate to our shop!
