“Inspired By” with Melissa Mann

We have loved being inspired by our design team in 2018, and have loved seeing what projects have sprung from the inspiration shown in our design team gallery each month! For our final “inspired by” post this year, Melissa Mann is creating something new from a layout created by Tracey Fox. Let’s see what she created:

Good Morning! It’s Melissa here with you, with a brand new layout using the leftover bits and pieces from my December kit.

My challenge this month was to lift a project from one of my fellow design team members. One of my favorites from November was a layout originally created by Tracey Fox. I LOVED her “Snow Day” layout’s theme and design and decided to lift both! Here’s what her layout looked like:

Here is my “inspired by” layout:

Supplies | December 2018 Kit, December Print and Cut Labels, Cork Tabs, Everyday Puffy Labels, Winter Puffy Stickers, Black Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Wonder and Joy Stamp, Merry and Bright 6 x 6 Paper Stack, Noteworthy 12 x 12 Paper Collection

I pretty much fully copied the design of this layout. I layered a panel of grid patterned paper from the Noteworthy 12 x 12 Paper Collection on the white card stock and then spritzed some black ink on either side of the panel of paper. I stitched this paper down using my sewing machine.

Once the ink dried, I layered some of the Merry and Bright 6 x 6 Paper Stack patterns and a 4″ x 6″ journaling tag from the December 2018 Kit on top of the grid pattern paper and then layered my photo and the three 3″ x 4″ journaling tags on top. I journaled on two of the cards using my typewriter and the other tag was used as a base for the title of my layout.

After I adhered these components down, I layered my embellishments around the layout. I used puffy stickers, label stickers, cork tabs, and various stamped sentiments on December Print and Cut Labels.

I hope you are enjoying this month’s goodies! Remember, that we have an Elle’s Studio Facebook group and we LOVE to see the projects you are creating using our products!

EVERYDAY CARDS WITH DANIELA DOBSON

Daniela is inspiring us today to use our monthly kits to create a fun card or two, to send to someone special! We love how she used our Everyday Puffy Labels to finish each card with the perfect sentiment for any time of year!

Welcome to the Elle’s Studio blog today! It’s Daniela here, sharing what I made with the December kit and extras. I love the colors this month and I thought I would make a few cards to send out during this busy season that are not holiday related!

Supplies | December 2018 kit, Wonder and Joy stamp, Everyday Puffy Labels, Stars and Dots Puffy Stickers, Merry and Bright Paper Stack, Noteworthy 12 x 12 paper

For the first card I used the blue paper from the Noteworthy 12 x 12 paper as my patterned paper for my white cardstock base. I had lots of little tags and bits left over from my December 2018 kit so I wanted to layer several different items together. I used the Wonder and Joy stamp and added a few stars from Stars and Dot Puffy stickers.

To add more blue to the card I punched three circles from the Merry and Bright 6 x 6 Paper Stack and tucked them under the journaling card. I splattered yellow watercolor all over for that final touch. The Everyday Puffy Labels provide a perfect sentiment for both of these cards!

For my second card I grouped together all the green elements I had left over from my projects this month, including the die cut tab, heart, and label!

For extra dimension, I added silver washi and buttons to both of the cards, and then I added green watercolor splatters to this card.

I hope these cards inspire you to gather some of your favorite bits and pieces and create a card for someone during this busy holiday season!

Evoking Winter Childhood Memories with Susan Brochu

We hear all of the time that the sayings on our tags help spark a story, but maybe sometimes we need to reach further back into our past to document a special memory? That’s what Susan Brochu is doing today using our Snow Day Journaling Tags, and the layout that she created could not be more perfect. Let’s check it out:

Hello everyone! Do you ever have a product spark a very specific memory? The “wintertime magic” 3″ x 4″ tag from the Snow Day Journaling Tags immediately brought to mind a vivid memory of a very magical night from my childhood, and today I’m sharing how I documented that memory.

Supplies | Snow Day Journaling Tags, Everyday Puffy Labels, Winter Puffy Stickers, Acrylic Christmas Trees, Let It Snow stamp, Noteworthy 12 x 12 paper collection

I used the Let It Snow stamp to evoke that magical feeling on my page background. I really wanted a little winter atmosphere on my layout, so I heat-embossed a mini blizzard on white cardstock using all of the snowflake stamps in the set. To add a little more color to the background, I then scattered some of the colorful asterisk puffy stickers from the Winter Puffy Stickers among the embossed snowflakes.

I grouped two 3″ x 4″ and one 4″ x 6″ tag (all from the Snow Day Journaling Tags) with my photo and placed them all about 2/3 of the way down the page. I wanted to make sure not to cover up too much of that “snowstorm” on the background since that was an important part of my story. Beneath that cluster I added layers of “snow” using torn strips of white cardstock. These “snowdrifts” also support my story. I started my journaling on the 3″ x 4″ tag to the left of the photo, and finished it on the 3″ x 4″ “wintertime magic” tag that inspired the page. It was really important to me that I used my handwriting for this particular story, but I was a little concerned that I’d make a mistake if I just started writing right on the cards. So I wrote a draft of my story on a scrap of white copy paper, then cut it apart and placed the strips on the cards. I had to do a little editing, but eventually was happy with how everything fit. I then carefully wrote my story directly onto the tags.

The colored background of the right pocket tag had my layout looking a little too heavy on that side so I needed to balance things out. The Everyday Puffy Labels had three sentiments that really complemented my story and I placed them on the left side of my photo, along with a couple of the sweet and colorful puffy hearts from the Winter Puffy Stickers. The puffy stickers added some weight to the left side of the page and they spread a little more color to that side as well.

The snowy, wintertime scene just wouldn’t be complete without a few pine trees, so I added the Acrylic Christmas Trees to the left and right edges. My final step was to trim off a small amount of the white cardstock background from two adjacent sides and add the teal and white patterned paper from the Noteworthy 12 x 12 paper collection to frame the layout. That extra paper helps give my page a little more stability (the embossing had warped it just a bit) and the pattern reminded me of falling snow which helps connect it to my theme.

I love how all those products came together to set the scene for this story, and how that one journaling card inspired me to record this special memory!

Custom Gift Tags using the December Kit with Jess Forster

Our December Kit and add-ons come with so many tags and die-cuts that are perfect for gift-giving, and today Jess Forster is giving us permission to simplify our expectations and use what we have on hand to create lovely layered gift tags which are perfect for creating now so that you’re not scrambling on Christmas morning! Let’s take a look:

When it comes to holidays, I spend a lot of time focusing on what gifts I am going to give my friends and family. Sometimes all of my attention goes into buying presents that I completely forget about the tags for the gifts! Christmas fail! It’s taken me a few years to realize, but I have a scrap room full of amazing themed supplies that are perfect for this holiday dilemma. Have a look!

Supplies | December 2018 Kit, Jane Alphabet Stamps — Red, Wood Veneer SnowflakesLarge Acrylic Gold Stars

This month, I noticed that I had various Christmas themed supplies left over from the December 2018 Kit including: 3″ x 4″ journaling tags, the die cuts and those awesome Wood Veneer Snowflakes and Large Acrylic Gold Stars.

I spent a few minutes layering die cuts and the snowflakes on top of each of the journaling tags as well as using bakers twine to attach the tags. No new techniques involved here—I was just happy to play for a few minutes after my kiddos went to bed one night last week. Here I made three tags, one to decorate the outside of an envelope; one attached to a present and one attached to a gift bag. So fun!

It so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season its important to practice a little crafty self care! Try making a tag or two for your presents! Thanks for looking and Happy Holidays!

December Memories in Pockets with Neela Nalam

The beauty of documenting in pockets is that you can make them as simple or as embellished as you’d like, and today we think design team member Neela Nalam found the perfect balance between her love of our new December kit and extras, and the beautiful December photos she’s documenting on a new pocket page spread. Let’s take a look at what she created:

I am right in the middle of creating my December album with help from the awesome products included in the December kit and add-ons, perfect for documenting this season! Here’s a look at my day seven spread:

Supplies | December 2018 kit, December Date LabelsCork TabsEveryday Puffy LabelsLarge Acrylic Gold StarsAcrylic Christmas TreesDocument December 2018 kit

December 7th happens to be my younger son’s half birthday and he was super eager to celebrate it! That’s what I am documenting with this double spread of 6″ x 8″ pocket pages. I have one large photo of my kids on the left in front of the Christmas tree at our marketplace and a couple of photos of them enjoying their treats on the right along with some 3″ x 4″ tags from the December 2018 kit.

One of my favorite add ons this month are the Cork Tabs. I added one that says “Magic” at the top of this photo along with a tab from the die cuts in the kit. I also added a couple more of the cork tabs to my spread to complete the visual triangle. The everyday puffy stickers have some awesome phrases and I used one on the photo to highlight the special moment that these two boys are sharing in this photo. I also added Large Acrylic Gold Stars and tiny stars from the Acrylic Christmas Trees to this spread to add some shine!

I love this red Christmas-themed 3″ x 4″ tag in the December kit. I used it as a base for the gold star and to add the day with the December Date Labels and number puffy sticker from the Document December 2018 kit.

I typed my journaling on one of the 3″ x 4″ tags in the kit and added a die cut that says “so awesome.” I love the font on this saying!

If you are creating a December memory project, I hope you are able to keep up and I hope these pockets will inspire you. There are so many awesome products in this kit to document the holiday season and so much more!

Quick Holiday Cards with Nathalie Leonelli

A handmade card is a great thing to send when you want someone to know that you’re wishing them the best, but we don’t always have time to craft an intricate card design, do we? Today design team member Nathalie Leonelli is here to help us! She’s sharing two simple and perfect card designs using our December kit and extras that will make creating those cards quick and easy! Let’s take a look:

I really enjoy making cards, but during this time of year nobody has the time to go through their supplies, or the time to come up with a design. I am here to share two pretty cards that you can give or mail for the holidays just by using the December kit and a few extras available this month. No digging required!

Supplies | December 2018 kit, Acrylic Christmas Trees, Everyday Puffy Labels, Merry and Bright 6 x 6 Paper Stack, Stanley Number stamp (sold out)

I chose two patterned papers from the Merry and Bright Paper Stack to use as my first layer on both cards and picked two tags from the December 2018 kit to go on top. Here is a closer look at the first card:

I embellished the blue tag from the kit with one of the Acrylic Christmas Trees, a couple of die-cuts also from the kit and a puffy sticker which was perfect as a sentiment (from the new Everyday Puffy Labels). As a last touch, I added a few machine stitches to accentuate the yellow and add texture. I love the depth that the transparency of the acrylic tree brings!

For this second card, I stamped and hand-cut numbers, but also punched half circles from one of the tags in the kit:

After adhering my blue base, I placed the punched half circles on the edges and added some hand stitches with matching embroidery floss (totally optional if you’re in a hurry!). I put gold washi on the top and bottom edges before adhering the “Hello New Year” tag with foam squares for extra dimension. I embellished with some small acrylic stars that come in the Acrylic Christmas Trees pack. To finish, I added a tab (from the kit) tucked under the tag on which I typed “Best wishes!”. I like how festive this card turned out!

I am so glad I have those cards ready to go now and I hope to have inspired you to create some with our new December kit and extras (which could be used to make more of course!)

Since this is my last post for the year, I would like to wish you a wonderful Christmas, if you celebrate, and to virtually send you all my best wishes for the New Year! May 2019 be your craftiest year ever!
