Mother’s and Father’s Day Card Duo with Wendy Antenucci

With one holiday just passed, it’s time to start thinking about our parents! The next two months bring Mother’s and Father’s Day, and we have a range of products from our April kit and extras to make creating for our parents a cinch! Let’s take a look at the cards that Wendy Antenucci created today!

Hello everyone, it’s Wendy here today with some cards to send out for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.  It’s a little early, but when I saw the Mom and Dad Wood Veneer, I knew it was time to create!

Both of my cards began with the wood veneers as they were so wonderful! I chose to keep the wood natural, but I did add a bow onto each piece.

The Mom card focused on a garden theme. I chose the floral papers from the Springtime 6 x 6 Paper Stack to enhance my garden and add a pop of color. The Butterflies and Flowers Puffy Stickers were the perfect addition to my garden as they allowed me to “plant” some flowers along the bottom edge of my card.  

An old stick pin through the pink bow with a small puffy sticker flower added an old fashioned boutonniere feel to the card. The yellow celebrate sticker from the Butterflies and Flowers Puffy Stickers was a bright and bold touch to spice up the garden.

My Dad card was made with the thought of an office theme in mind. I used a leftover clothespin to hold my 3″ x 4″ “Instagrammed” tag from the April Kit to the page, mixing old and new pieces.  

The Typewriter Keys Puffy Alphabet Stickers allowed me to customize my card, snuggling extra words around the wood veneer due to their cute size.  One final ticket and “simple joys” sentiment from the Wander Stamp held on with a staple completed the manly/office theme that I was going for.

Funny Moments with Mom with Mary-Ann Maldonado

Life isn’t just for documenting the serious moments, and today Mary-Ann Maldonado is showing just how awesome it can be to record the funny ones, too, using our April kit and extras! Let’s see what she created!

Hey there! Do you ever think to yourself, ‘how can that possibly be?’ Well, my mom and I had a recent discussion after getting purple blueberry ice cream. We both know that blueberries can be blue, but mostly they are purple. So, we decided they shouldn’t be called blueberries. Maybe purple berries! Who came up with the work pajamas? Or scrumptious? I could go on. It would take all day and with all the amazing goodies in the April Kit and add-ons, we don’t have time for that, do we?!

I knew I wanted to create a play on colors with the blue and purple, so I made sure to layer both colors every time I used them.  Behind the Large Jane Alphabet words, around the entire layout as a base, and under the large heart Cut file.  

I only wanted to use the heart part of the “mom” heart die cut file, so I released the compound path and only used the outer part of the heart,  releasing it from the text on the inside.  I cut the heart three times, decreasing in size by 1/4″ each time.  

Along with the blue and purple, I added the beautiful raspberry color that is found throughout the April Kit. The Butterflies and Flowers Puffy Stickers had the cutest florals, so I had to add them to the embellishment cluster at the bottom of my page. Adding this lead me to include the 3″ x 4″ floral tag from the April Kit.

I trimmed the floral tag and tucked it in behind my photo. Then I layered this with the Days of the Week Phrase Stickers for a little more detail to my story. Not only does my title tell the story, but I added journaling to the top left corner of the layout to remember the specifics of the moment for years to come.  

I gotta tell ya, these Large Jane Alphabet Stamps and Metal Dies work perfectly with the April Kit, just like they did with March! I bet ya that they will work with May too!

Playing with Pastels with Daniela

Our special sets of journaling tags, like the Pastel Labeled Journaling Tags are perfect for coordinating with the April 2019 Kit, and using when you need to add more words to your project, but they can also be used for so much more! Today, Daniela is with us to share how she used them to create spots for photos, embellishment AND her story! Let’s take a look:

Hi everybody, it’s Daniela here and I have another layout to share with you guys. This time I wanted to use the Pastel Labeled Journaling Tags. I try to have a little bit of journaling on every layout. Personally, I prefer handwritten texts on my pages because I feel that my own handwriting adds another personal touch to the project. Of course, handwriting and journaling tags go together perfectly, so I created a page with these tags front and center!

I used three of the tags for this page and created different elements in a line. The first tag holds my picture, the second is embellished with the beautiful butterfly I fussy-cut from one of the tags included in the April 2019 Kit and the third is my journaling spot. I added only a few embellishments under these three elements which underline the tags.

There are also some embellishments on the tags—some stickers here and there and a background paper behind the tag in the center. I also created a soft circle behind the butterfly element in the middle. 

The teal colored butterfly builds the center of my page and this color combination occurs over and over again. I placed two paper stripes on each side of the white cardstock cardstock and used a big puffy sticker and number stickers in this color as well.

Spring Break Wanderings with Suzanna Lee

It’s that time of year—spring break time! Whether you hit the beach, do a city break, or stay at home for some R&R, our Wander Stamp has a ton of illustrations and phrases on it to help you document your adventures! Let’s take a look at how design team member Suzanna Lee used it to create a new layout!

Happy spring Elle’s Studio fans! Did you go away for spring break or enjoy a leisurely staycation? We did a whirlwind visit out to the opposite coast. This is Suzanna here today to share with you a “summary” page of our spring break week with this month’s aptly named featured stamp, Wander, as the highlight of the layout.

Can you believe that there is one and ONLY one piece of patterned paper used in the creation of this layout! Pretty amazing given the explosion of color in the layout! The remainder of the layout is comprised of stamped images and labels! Oh, and literally, the largest block of journaling I have ever put on a layout. I was pretty proud of myself for that, AND six photos.

I didn’t even use half of the stamps in the Wander Stamp, but I sure felt like I used a lot of them! The monthly stamps are such great value for money when you look at all the options and possibilities—so much versatility in the available uses! This is just one option: stamping directly on the page. I toyed with stamping the smaller sized butterflies, fussy cutting them and then layering them on the larger butterflies. The only reason I didn’t was because then I wouldn’t have a place to put the awesome Days of the Week Phrase Stickers.

The words “wander” and “explore” were great subtitles for our spring break week and could be used in many other ways. You could do as I did and incorporate the stamped word into a title, or stamp repeatedly to create a background. There are so many great uses for these stamps, the sky is the limit! I stamped the words in black at the bottom of the page to tie the bottom of the layout to the black and white photos at the top of the layout, creating some balance.

Tuesday Documented with Guest Rachel O’Neal

When was the last time you went through an entire, normal day in your life and documented every activity that you did? Our April guest designer, Rachel O’Neal did that on a new layout using our latest products, and she’s back to share it with us today! Let’s take a look.

Hello friends! I’m back again and ready to share my second layout with you using the Elle’s Studio April Kit and extras! I was inspired to use the journaling tags to create a layout about what a Tuesday looks like for us.

My base is a piece of bright white 12″ x 12″ cardstock. I chose six journaling tags–five from the April Kit and one from the On This Day In March Journaling Tags. Since I have a plain white background, I decided to add a second layer underneath the tags, using papers from the Springtime 6 x 6 Paper Stack. I love having these paper stacks on hand because they are always so versatile!

Now it was time to start filling out all the details of our day. I started with breakfast because that’s a pretty important start to the day, right?! I used the white Hazel Alphabet Stickers for the titles on each card. I loved using these across the tops of each card because they added cohesion to the whole layout. I journaled a couple of short sentences and then used the Mini Dated Stamp to document the day.

All of my photos are small at 2″ x 2″—the perfect size for documenting each part of our day and including them on each tag. Tip: I use the app PicFrame on my phone to create a 4″ x 6″ inch photo collage. This allows me to print all four of the photos on one regular size 4″ x 6″ photo.

After breakfast we hit the gym and then went on to piano and school. One of my favorite embellishments that I used were the Puffy Icon Stickers. These bright-colored, round stickers come with so many symbols that represent parts of our day—tea (or coffee mug) and music notes in particular.

At 12 PM it’s lunch so I decided to use the “love this” wood veneer because making it to lunch time is pretty great! Once I filled out each journaling tag. I arranged them grid style towards the bottom of the page making sure I had enough room for my large title.

I started my title with the Large Jane Alphabet Stamp. I took my favorite patterned paper from the Springtime 6 x 6 Paper Stack–a gorgeous ombre teal with grid lines–and stamped the word TUESDAY out. I let the ink dry for a couple minutes and then fussy cut the letters for my tile with small, sharp scissors. I used tape runner to adhere them above my journaling tags. Then I used the Black Puffy Alphabet Stickers to finish the title. Last, but definitely not least, I added my favorite embellishment above the title—the puffy rainbow sticker from the Spring Puffy Stickers.

Springtime Flower Fun with Tracey Fox

How much are you loving the April Kit and extras?! The products are delightfully colorful as always, but I am loving the springy themes of blooms and butterflies in this month’s release. I was immediately inspired to print and scrap my photos from a recent trip to Epcot’s International Flower & Garden Festival. I had tons of photos of the flowers and topiaries we saw there and wanted to fit them all in, so I printed just a couple of favorite photos at 3″ x 4″ and printed the rest of them in small, 2″ x 2″ squares.

I usually gravitate toward grid designs for multi-photo layouts, but the organic subject matter of my page, along with the flowers and butterflies in the products, led me to arrange my photos in a loose circle instead. I used my sewing machine to stitch some messy circles on my white cardstock background in black thread, and I stuck down the larger photo of me looking up at the flowers so that it would help lead the eye around to the other photos I would place along the circle.

The “Bloom Bloom Bloom” tag from the April 2019 Kit, which serves as my main title for the page, fit in perfectly between the photo of me and the one of my husband excitedly posing in front of his favorite character topiary. I adhered the nine smaller photos all around the stitched circle, and I had the best time embellishing the layout by filling in the spaces between the photos with die cuts from the April Kit, the Butterflies and Flowers Puffy Stickers, the Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers, the Wood Veneer Butterflies, the Days of the Week Phrase Stickers, and a heart from the Love This Wood Veneer set. I also added some mist splatters along the circle for some extra detail.

Next, I adhered a bit of the brochure from the event and the lovely lilac “Love These Memories” 4″ x 6″ tag from the April Kit to the bottom of the page so that they went off the edge of the page and provided a foundation for my design. As a finishing touch, I tore away a bit of the background cardstock on the edges of the page and stuck some of the floral patterned paper from the Springtime 6 x 6 Paper Stack underneath so that it would peek out.
