April #EllesStudio Spottings on Instagram

This month was an awesome month for the #EllesStudio hashtag! We found so many amazing and inspiring projects there, and it was hard to choose only six to share with you today:

To start things off, we love the way that Polly (@pollyspapermemories) used watercolor paint to color in her Large Jane Alphabet letters on the layout on the left. What an amazing title she created! On the right, Desiree (@desireestale) is showing us how timeless our paper collections are, as she used our retired Cameron collection to create the wonderful layout on the right! Beautiful work, ladies!

This makes us want to pull out our die cutting machine right now! On the right, the cutest Easter pocket page by Colleen (@cmhornung) was embellished to perfection with our Wood Veneer Easter Eggs and Little Acrylic Bunnies. We just love it, Colleen!

How about another inspiring pocket page? On the left, we love the way that Sarah (@sarahsscrappingspace) used our retired Family Fun collection to document the people she loves the most in a colorful way! On the right, Michelle (@michellestclair) used our March 2019 Kit, Springtime Paper Stack and Hello Happy Puffy Word Stickers to create the perfect layout about some shopping fun! Lovely projects, ladies!

Happy National Scrapbooking Day 2019!

Hooray for National (or International for our friends across the border or overseas!) Scrapbooking Day! We love documenting our memories, and making it easier for you to do the same by providing you with beautiful, coordinated products. We also love the community that this hobby has created, and we are so thankful for each one of YOU, our loyal readers and customers.

We wanted to treat you to something special to celebrate the day!

Take advantage of this special offer on our digital die cuts and printables to use over and over again on your scrapbook layouts and pocket pages!

The celebration of this special day continues with five fun challenges! Not only can these challenges help you create something truly spectacular, and get your memories recorded, but you’ll also be able to enter to WIN some BIG prizes!

Challenge #1 | Add a momento to your project the way that Candace Perkins did here in her pocket page spread. Whether it is a ticket saved from a trip, or a drawing from a child, add it to your page and record that moment along with your story.

Challenge #2 | Rip, tear and texturize the paper on your project to add interest, the way that Melissa Mann did on this beautiful page! No special tools are needed—a pair of sharp scissors will do the trick to texturize a paper edge, and you can rip in a straight line easily by adding pressure with a ruler. If this isn’t your typical style, give it a try to up your texture game!

Challenge #3 | Go monochromatic, like Jess Forster did on her traveler’s notebook spread! Using the same hue in different tints and shades creates a bold and graphic project, and Jess’ purple monochromatic spread is amplified with a black and white photo here! We can’t wait to see what color you choose!

Challenge #4 | Use a digital printable or cut file element! Meghann Andrew used our Wander Printables here to create her layout background! We have several free digitals in the shop, and you can use your $5 off code above to get your digital supplies for this challenge!

Challenge #5 | Stamp all, or part of your title, as Mary-Ann Maldonado did here on this layout using our Large Jane Alphabet Stamps! Don’t have alphabet stamps? No problem! Use icons or illustrations to stamp in place of your words, like a heart stamp for the word “love!”

Complete each separate challenge, using at least one Elle’s Studio product (digitals included!) on your project for a chance to win one of five $50 gift certificates to our shop! We will be randomly selecting a winner from each challenge! If you complete all five challenges, you will also be entered to win a grand prize $100 gift certificate to the shop!

Join our Facebook group and post your entries under the corresponding challenge! Or post them on Instagram and link us up here! If you want to use Instagram to post your entry, please post your photo on Instagram, using the hashtag #EllesStudio, then tap on the three dots ( … ) above the photo. Select “Share” and then select “Copy Link”. This is the URL you will use when posting your entry comment here on our blog.

To enter to win the grand prize, please leave a comment here or on the corresponding post in our Facebook group with all five entries linked up in the same post!

Each project will count as one entry, even if you have included multiple challenges in that project.

Entries will close at 11:59pm PST on Saturday May 11th, and winners will be announced on May 13th! Good luck, and we can’t wait to see what you create!

Go See Do with Sabrina Poole

Now that we are in spring, and summer is upon us, adventures are everywhere, whether on a long-haul trip or in our backyard! Document them with the Go See Do Acrylic, the way that design team member Sabrina Poole is sharing with us today!

Hello everyone this is Sabrina for the creative team and today I wanted to show you a fun pocket page that showcases the Go See Do Acrylic. This acrylic was the perfect statement piece for my pocket page spread to document a walk with my husband around our local lake.

Supplies | April 2019 Kit, Springtime 6 x 6 Paper Stack, Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers, Go See Do Acrylic, Wood Veneer Butterflies, Wander Stamp, The Details Stamp

When I first started putting this spread together I noticed a piece of scrap paper from the Springtime 6 x 6 Paper Stack. It was the three colors of teal and that immediately made me think of my Go See Do Acrylic. Three words in the acrylic piece and three swatches of teal would be perfect together! So that was the starting point for my layout. That’s why it’s always important to save your scraps!

I also knew that I was going to be stamping a lot of butterflies. While my husband and I were walking there was a ton of black butterflies and with the new Wander Stamp, I knew I could re-create that on my spread. I stamped a bunch of butterflies in the various sizes and then fussy cut them out to make a scattering on my 6″ x 8″ spread. I love the way that it adds a lot of visual interest and movement to my spread. I also added in some of the wood veneer butterflies to add dimension and texture.

I used The Details Stamp to stamp a border that said “adventure” on the right hand side and underneath the photo of the trail. I also added the “awesome”, “go see do” and “I love you” circles for extra embellishment. I love how stamp sets stretch the use of your Elle’s Studio products and add a personal touch to your projects.

For a pop of teal color, I decided to go back to the Wander Stamp and stamp “explore” and “wander,” which I fussy-cut out to add to my spread. To finish, I got out my stash of puffy stickers and added a bunch of stars and dots, as well as a few die cuts and the “Instagramed” journaling tag from the April 2019 Kit. This spread came together pretty quickly and I had fun using the acrylic Go See Do Acrylic piece!

I hope this spread inspires you to use your Elle’s Studio acrylic pieces and to document your outdoor adventures. Have a great week!

Digital Double-Duty with Patricia Roebuck

Sometimes to get out of a rut, we have to try a new technique. Why not do something new with digitals? Today Patricia Roebuck is with us to share a few very cool ways to make the most out of your digital files this month, and we know you will love her ideas! Let’s check them out!

Hello! It’s Patricia here with you today to share three ways to use the April printable and cut files for a traveler’s notebook spread. It is no secret that having the digital option, as well as the physical product can really help stretch your supplies to create more projects, but it also offers so many ways to get creative and try something new!

Supplies | April 2019 Kit, April 2019 Digital Cut File, April Print and Cut Labels, Printable Spring Bible Scripture Tags, Wander Printables, Wood Veneer Butterflies, Wander Stamp, Springtime 6 x 6 Paper Stack, Noteworthy 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection

As you can see by my project, having the cut files and the wood veneers of the butterflies helped create not only a fuller TN spread, but gave me more options to create texture.  After cutting the butterflies with my Silhouette Cameo and before taking them off the mat, I used the Wander Stamp to stamp ‘wander’ in three different colors of ink.  Stamping them while still together on the mat was easier for getting that random stamped look than if I removed them from the mat to stamp onto each one individually.  These colors set the color palette for my spread.

Since my white, stamped butterflies create texture, I love the contrast of them with the solid wood veneer butterflies as well as more solid colored or simple pattern paper designs, so they can stand out and not compete with the background or wood butterflies. I used a combination of Noteworthy and Springtime 6 x 6 Paper Stack papers, pulling similar colors to create a tone-on-tone layered look, also creating more subtle texture.

This butterfly theme works so well with the theme of my spread, so I continued in that direction and opened the Butterfly PNG tag digital file from the Wander Printables and created a clipping mask for one of my photos.  I have an old version of Photoshop Elements, but hopefully these steps will help you do the same with a similar program:

  • Open the Butterfly PNG file, click on the Magic Wand Tool.
  • Click on the purple section of card and not on the butterfly.
You should see marching ants around entire tag and butterfly.
    Click Delete.
  • Your purple background will be removed and you should see a checkerboard background. Click the ESC key to remove the marching ants.
  • Open your photo and drag it onto the butterfly tag. Shape and position it.
  • From the Menu, click Layer – Create Clipping Mask. Reposition and shape your photo before printing, and detail cutting the image out.

Moving my photo to create some white space on it allowed room for my title using the April 2019 Kit “enjoy the ride” die cut.  When I trimmed the photo out, I left a small white border around it, so it stands out against my numbered patterned paper from the Noteworthy 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection. I repeated the layered butterflies on the right side of this page by layering a good bit! Most are overlapped and adhered with just adhesive in the center, and just a couple on top are adhered in the center with foam adhesive.

Next, I opened one of the Printable Spring Bible Scripture Tags with a verse that fit with my project, but wanted to include it over my photo instead of just printing the tag.  To do this, I did the exact same steps above, except instead of dragging the photo onto the tag, I dragged the writing onto the tag and then repositioned it and sized it before printing.

The third digital element I brought in was the die cut word “wander” from the April 2019 Digital Cut File. This was especially useful since I had already used the acrylic piece on another project. I used the Springtime 6 x 6 Paper Stack in coordinating colors of my project and die cut this out with the Cameo three times to adhere and stack on top of each other. This gives it more dimension and stability.

Give one or all of the three digital options available to help extend those same physical favorites a try this month! Then, take it to the next step and try creating texture with stamping on die cuts, creating a clipping mask from a tag for a photo, and/or adding text from a tag to a photo. Happy creating!

Go, See, Do with Suzanna Stein

Projects using our monthly kit and add-ons can be as simple as you want them to be, and they still turn out colorful and beautiful! Today Suzanna Stein is here to share her latest pocket page using the April kit and add-ons, to document a fun adventure! Let’s take a look.

Hey crafty pals, it’s Suzanna here! I’m excited to share this pocket page layout with you! I used all sorts of goodies from the April kit and extras, plus I put the Large Jane Alphabet Metal Die to use and I am obsessed!

Supplies | April 2019 Kit,April Labels, Jane Alphabet Stickers – Teal, Hazel Alphabet Stickers – Grey, Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers, Go See Do Acrylic, Wander Stamp, Large Jane Alphabet Metal Die, Noteworthy 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection, Live Laugh Love 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection

I start my layouts in all different ways and gather inspiration from different things each time. This time, I printed my photos and knew I wanted to use the Large Jane Alphabet Metal Die somewhere in the layout. From there, I embellished my photos, adding a few labels and puffy hearts.

I was really excited to see that the Go See Do Acrylic went along perfectly with my theme and the story of my layout. I stacked those words on a 3″ x 4″ journaling tag to serve as my layout title. The white is subtle, which I love, but still stands out just a bit from the colorful stripes of the background.

A few of my photos were washed out and/or super busy. I was trying to embellish them in a simple manner without taking away from everything that was going on, and also trying not to draw attention to the fact that they were washed out. Even the photos that turn out blurry or washed out end up in my albums because getting the memory or story documented is more important to me than having the perfect image.

Finally, I used the Large Jane Alphabet Metal Die to cut letters from patterned papers in theNoteworthy 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection. The teal matched my layout perfectly and I love the interest that the white dots add! I cut a second set of the same letters from a wood grain paper in the Live Laugh Love 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection and layered them behind the teal letters, allowing the wood grain to act as a shadow. I love the look this gives the tag—my eyes instantly go to those letters!

I hope this layout gave you a few ideas and inspiration for your upcoming projects! It was so fun using those dies and I cannot wait to use them on future projects!

This Day with Mom with Jen McMurtrey

When was the last time that you documented a special moment that you shared with your mom? With Mother’s Day approaching, now is the perfect time to record the memories that you won’t want to forget, and design team member Jen McMurtrey has a new layout to share with us that will inspire you to do just that!

Hello everyone! Mother’s Day is just around the corner, which means it’s time to celebrate those special women in your life. The Elle’s Studio April Kit and add-ons are perfect for doing just that–whether it be creating a card, a layout, or a traveler’s notebook spread.

This month I chose to focus on a layout using the adorable Mom Wood Veneer as the focal point.

Supplies | April 2019 Kit, Days of the Week Phrase Stickers, Stars and Dots Puffy Stickers, Mom Wood Veneer, Wood Veneer Hearts, Mini Dated Stamp

Adding texture to projects is a must for me and this one is no exception. To create the effect I was after, I added watercolor paint to the white cardstock using the smushing method. Next, I pierced several holes in the paper on either side of the painted area and stitched back and forth across the page with white embroidery thread.

With the background complete, I began layering 3″ x 4″ journaling tags from the April Kit behind my photo. If you find that one of the tags is not large enough to fit behind a picture, you can always cut it in half as I did with some of these. This gives the impression of it being larger than it actually is because it can be seen on the top and bottom of the photo (or on either side depending on how it is arranged.)

To complete the layout, I used the Mom Wood Veneer for the title and added a couple of the Wood Veneer Hearts to create a visual triangle along with a few puffy dots from the Stars and Dots Puffy Stickers.

Here is one more look at the finished project.

This month’s kit and add-ons have been perfect for celebrating this fun memory with my mom. Still need inspiration? Be sure to visit the Elle’s Studio Facebook group or visit us on Instagram. Tag your projects with #EllesStudio so we are sure to see them!

Scraplifting a Layout for a Traveler’s Notebook Spread with Steph Grimes

Inspiration is all around us, and sometimes, a project totally unlike the one that we’re working on will speak to us. Today, design team member Steph Grimes found inspiration in a layout to help her start a new vacation documentation project! Let’s take a look!

Can you even believe it’s nearly the end of April already? I hope that spring has reached your corner of the world by now and, if not, that you’ve at least got your springy April kit and extras already in hand! It’s Steph here and this month I was inspired by my uber-talented friend and fellow ES design team member Tracey Fox. As soon as I saw her “On Purpose” layout that she created for the March design team gallery, I wanted to scraplift it for a travel project I just started work on.

Here’s Tracey’s original layout:

And here’s what I created based on her layout:

Supplies | April 2019 Kit5 W’s Journaling Tags, Typewriter Keys Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Go See Do Acrylic, Large Jane Alphabet Stamp – Outline, Large Jane Alphabet Metal Die, Springtime 6 x 6 Paper Stack, The Details Stamp, Mini Dated Stamp

I just started work on a travel album for our 2016 road trip to and around Florida and when I came across Tracey’s layout in the gallery last month, I immediately felt inspired! Tracey’s original layout was 12″ x 12″, however, I am only working in a 6″ x 8″ size for this album and already knew that I wanted my opening page to be traveler’s notebook sized (4.25” x 8.25”). So I decided to make it work anyway! I treated Tracey’s page as two smaller pages when working on my design, so I loosely turned the left half of her layout into my first page and the right half of her layout into my second page.

My favorite elements of Tracey’s layout were the grid, the hand-drawn thin line border around the page, the photo corners, and the green and aqua color scheme. I used those elements as my starting point and carried those directly into my own design. I added in a little yellow because I loved the yellow 4″ x 6” tag included in the April Kit and knew that I could trim it down to work on this layout and house my album title.

On Tracey’s original layout, she also had a grouping of die cuts and dimensional elements in the top left side of her grid. I also wanted to add this to my page since I thought so many of the die cuts in the April Kit went well with the theme of travel and matched the color scheme I had chosen. I love how these little bits and bobs work within the grid design of Tracey’s page, but also help to break it up a little and add some additional visual interest.

Like Tracey, I used the 5 W’s Journaling Tag and cut out only the part I wanted to use, which was the ‘When’ strip of the card. Then, I added in the dates of our trip using the Mini Dated Stamp. I highlighted the actual days of the week we were traveling by using a marker to underline the days of the week die cut from the April Kit.

The final element I added was the Go See Do Acrylic over top of my grid of photos on the second page, which is perfect for any travel-themed projects! I also stamped out a few of the images from The Details Stamp—the geotag, camera, and heart—to add alongside the acrylic words and bring a little more color to the page.

It was so much fun to use another design team member’s project as inspiration this month! Thank you Tracey for an awesome jumping off point! Have you been inspired by the design team this month? Have you already scraplifted one of the projects from the gallery? Please share it with us using the hashtag #EllesStudio on Instagram so we can see what you’ve created!

A Gratitude Traveller’s Notebook Layout with Jess Forster

It’s no secret that I love pocket pages, but sometimes, it is fun to go outside your creative comfort zone and play with new products and styles. This year, I am making a gratitude traveller’s notebook that I not only use to hold my stories of thankfulness, but also as a creative outlet to make quick and easy pages. At this time of year, there are many things to be thankful for. In this page, I document my ongoing appreciation for my mom.

Supplies | April 2019 Kit, Pastel Labeled Journaling Tags, March Labels, Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers, Mom Wood Veneer, All My Heart 6 x 6 Paper Stack, Wander Stamp

When I opened up the April kit and add-ons, I knew that I wanted to incorporate the Mom Wood Veneer, as well as play with the Wander Stamp. To me, I feel like traveller’s notebooks can be a great place to simply display eye catching elements, like the Mom Wood Veneer, because they take up so much space on a tiny page. Not only is it a focal point, but  I also love the design of the heart, which in its essence conveys the message of love and appreciation.

Furthermore, traveller’s notebook pages are also great place to practice using ink, especially if you are afraid of stamping, like me! Ha. This is all to say that traveller’s notebooks can be a great way use your supplies!

When it came to the Wander Stamp, I like the simple phrasing. Words, like “pure magic”, “favourite” and “the details” were small enough to fit on the purple tag die cut from the April kit.

I layered the purple location tag, from the March Labels, on top of the die cut. I love that Elle’s products are interchangeable from month to month and can be easily matched. The purple patterned paper is from the All My Heart 6 x 6 Paper Stack and the purple pink border on top of the page was cut from the 4″ x 6″ “love these memories” journaling tag from the April Kit. Mixing and matching is fun!

Once the simple details like date and location were documented, I placed the Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers in a visual triangle on the outside of the page. I then typed my heartfelt journaling and printed it on one of the 3″ x 4″ Pastel Labeled Journaling Tags. I chose the little purple card to keep my colour scheme consistent and I paired this story with a black and white enlarged photo of my mom and Rowan playing.

Simple and quick! You don’t need to slave over a traditional page for days when documenting your gratitude stories. Consider documenting them in thankfulness in a traveller’s notebook. Fun fact: I have decided to use the Dad Wood Veneer in a similar traveller’s notebook page, thanking him for all the work he does with my kiddos! I hope I have encouraged you to use a traveller’s notebook or given you an idea on how to set your TN up. How are you documenting your gratitude? What do you use your traveller’s notebooks for? Thanks for looking!

A Waterfall of Tags Traveler’s Notebook Spread with Guest Rachel O’Neal

We have loved seeing what our guest designer, Rachel O’ Neal has created using our April Kit and add-ons; documenting springtime fun and a typical Tuesday on her layouts. Today she’s switching gears to share a traveler’s notebook spread with us, and we know you will love the creative way that she’s packed the maximum amount of photos and journaling onto her project! Let’s see what she created!

Hi friends! It’s Rachel O’Neal here, back for one last post. I have had the best time creating with this month’s kit. And I’ve saved my favorite project for last! Instead of doing a traditional 12″ x 12″ layout, I decided to create a spread in my travelers notebook. I love my travelers notebook! I create one spread a week in it, documenting my favorite thing or moment from that week. It usually includes a picture or two along with some journaling.

Supplies | April 2019 Kit, Let’s Go Traveler’s Notebook Kit, On This Day In April Journaling Tags, Jane Alphabet Stickers – Black, Puffy Heart Stickers – Spring Mix, Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers, Spring Puffy Stickers, Springtime 6 x 6 Paper Stack, Large Jane Alphabet Stamp – Outline, Noteworthy Stamp, Mini Dated Stamp

For this week’s spread, I wanted to document our family camping trip. We had the best time and had so many great photos that I really couldn’t choose just one, or even two! I decided to use some washi and the journaling tags from the April Kit to create an awesome flip through look at our weekend. So let’s talk about that page first.

I started with the On This Day In April Journaling Tag. I lined it up with the top journaling line of my notebook and then secured it with a strip of washi tape. Next, I added my 2″ x 2″ photo, and used the Mini Dated Stamp at the bottom. Tip: To make it easier to flip through all of the tags, I used a tab punch with papers from the Springtime 6 x 6 Paper Stack and added tabs to each tag. Then I went to town embellishing them with staples, die cuts and stickers make them stand out. The Let’s Go stickers from the Let’s Go Traveler’s Notebook Kit were really perfect for this spread!

After I was done with the first card I flipped it up and then added the next tag with washi tape. Each tag is spaced apart by two lines to keep things consistent. I used a total of six tags on the right side. I loved doing this spread because it allowed me to include so many photos (11 total!) and lots of journaling.

On the left side of the spread, I made a giant title with the Large Jane Alphabet Outline Stamp. The striped paper from the Springtime 6 x 6 Paper Stack is my favorite! I stamped the title out and then fussy cut each letter with a pair of sharp scissors. I placed my title vertically down the side of the notebook and added two more photos. I keep track with each week number in my notebook, so I added that at the top of the page with the black Jane Alphabet Stickers. To finish the page, I added a few Puffy Heart Stickers, some hearts stamped with the Noteworthy Stamp and the very appropriate “this is awesome” die cut from the April Kit.

Thank you for taking the time to check out my creations. I love that this kit is so versatile–perfect for traditional scrapbook pages, pocket pages, and even travelers notebooks. I hope you find just as much joy as I do in creating with it!

Hi friends! My name is Rachel O’Neal. I’m a wife and mom to the cutest two little boys on the planet. I spend my days homeschooling them and enjoy every minute of it. When we aren’t in school, I love being outdoors – camping, hiking, and taking pictures of our adventures. I’ve been scrapbooking for over 15 years! I love to scrap with cut files, stamps, and bright colors.

Keep up with what Rachel creates in the future by following her Instagram account for more creative inspiration. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful projects with us this month, Rachel!
