August Scrap Challenge with Mary-Ann Maldonado

Our September Kit reveal is only one day away, so why not get some inspiration from design team member Mary-Ann Maldonado to combine colors and textures to not only create something fantastic this weekend, but also use up what you have left of your August 2019 Kit and extras! Let’s take a look at what she created!

Hello Elle’s Studio fans! Today, I am going to use up most of my scraps from my August 2019 Kit and add-ons! If you are a kit subscriber, you know there is not usually much left after we get done creating all of the cards, layouts, pocket pages and more that we can with the monthly kit! My challenge was to create a layout with what I did have left and here is what I came up with:

I started by cutting the “Fun Times” design from the August 2019 Digital Cut Files twice and layered them together on my Noteworthy Paper Collection base, adding a subtle shape to the background to create interest and mix patterns!

Next, I scattered the Makes Me Smile Cork Circles and the Days of the Week Wood Veneers around the circle. Spacing them out into a triangle forces the eye around the page and also creates balance.

To continue on the radial axis that I started with the cut file, I combined die cuts from the August 2019 Kit, Be Yourself Phrase Stickers, colorful Back to School Puffy Stickers, TGIF Wood Veneers, and sunny Acrylic Sunglasses to add different textures and dimension.  I placed these around in a circle around the pinked circle cut file, adding dimensional adhesive to some of the elements. It is so fun to combine all of these textures and colors!

To use of what I had left in my kit, I even cut my journaling tags! These cute and colorful pencils came from one of the 4″ x 6″ tags from the August 2019 Kit, and they worked perfectly on this page instead of being unused in my stash!

I highly recommend combining all of the fabulous textures and coordinated colors from the August 2019 Kit and add-ons to create something special before your September 2019 Kit arrives! Sweet Summer Memories with Title Builder Vol. 3 and Amanda-jayne Baldwin

Our newest Title Builder collection, Title Builder Vol. 3 was designed with summer moments in mind, and when these stamps, wood veneers and acrylic are paired with our August kit and extras, the creative possibilities are endless, as Amanda-jayne Baldwin is illustrating for us with a new scrapbook layout. Let’s take a look at what she created!

Hi, friends! It’s Amanda here, and today I’m sharing more everyday documenting with the fabulous August 2019 Kit and extras, along with the incredible Title Builder Vol. 3 Stamp! It’s no secret that I adore Elle’s Studio stamps, but honestly, the Title Builder Stamps are a true favorite of mine! Here’s yet another reason why…

Isn’t this the sweetest summer page?! See what I mean about the everyday documenting? This was no milestone moment—just a simple capture of my two darlings exploring the rock pools, but one that I still wanted to record and ‘keep’ forever! A summer moment that truly was the best fun ever!

Here’s a closer look at my layout:

Every element of this page was inspired by that sweet photo! I often create pages where the photo is the focus, and chief story teller of the design. From the colors in my children’s clothing on this warm summer’s day at the rock beach, to the loving moment that they shared—it all inspired this fun summer page! 

To be completely honest, my 12″ x 12″ scrapbook layout really began as a pocket page! I started with the 3″ x 4″ “more of this” tag from the August 2019 Kit. Apart from it’s coordinating color, I also loved the pennant icon that the sentiment was printed on. So, I used a scalpel knife and fussy cut it to create a photo clip to insert my photo under. This is a really simple touch that brings attraction to my photo! I then embellished this photo tag with the “Best Friends” Back to School Puffy Sticker and the “summer” Title Builder Vol. 3 Wood Veneer. 

Pocket page scrappin’ is so much fun, but we all know that I’m a 12″ x 12″ girl at heart, so I just couldn’t stop there! 

Next, I created a banner from white cardstock, and repeat stamped the word “LOVE” from the Title Builder Vol. 3 Stamp. I stamped this subtitle in an ombre style and added faux stitching around the edges with black pen. The banner shape compliments the pennant photo clip and added an extra point of interest to draw attention to my photograph. To connect the two main pieces of my layout together, I embellished both with a pair of red sunglasses: one from the Acrylic Sunglasses, and the other fussy cut from a tag in the August Kit.

It’s at this point where I actually decided to create a 12″ x 12″ page. I trimmed 1″ off of my white cardstock base to allow for the paper trim on the left hand side. I butted two 1/2″ strips of patterned paper from the Sunshine 6 x 6 Paper Stack to form the 12″ length. I did this twice, and then machine stitched all pieces onto the underside of the white cardstock. I also layered the polka dot striped patterned paper through the left hand side of my page, at the 4″ mark, to anchor both my photo and banner.  

Now for the super fun part: adding the embellishments!!!

I added a a good scattering of hearts, including the stamped hearts and “LOVE” word from the Highlights From Today Stamp, watercolor splatters, the fantastic Make Me Smile Cork Circles and few sequins from my stash. I also stamped “this is the best fun ever” with the Title Builder Vol. 3 Stamp, which is just my favorite!!! I LOVE it!

I added a few more of the Make Me Smile Cork Circles around the page, and a couple more pairs of both fussy cut and Acrylic Sunglasses. So fun!

There you have it! Documenting the everyday never looked so good! I hope my layout has inspired you to get creating with the fabulous August kit and add-ons, along with the Title Builder Vol. 3 collection!

August #EllesStudio Spottings on Instagram

We love all of the pops of color and plenty of white space! On the right, Theresa (@larkindesigntm) has documented back to school using our latest TGIF Wood Veneers, Notebook Puffy Alphabet Stickers, and Back to School Puffy Stickers! What a fabulous layout!

A patriotic never looked so good! We love how Jackie (@jackiescraps) used our Sunshine 6 x 6 Paper Stack, 4th of July Puffy Stickers and Navy Puffy Alphabet Stickers to create her explosive page! Great job, Jackie! On the right, we love the way that Heather (@magical_paper_scraps) matched her character meet up with tags from our monthly kits, Noteworthy 12 x 12 Paper Collection and 6 x 6 Paper Stack to create a beautiful layout! A Pop of Color Using Digitals with Kristina Proffitt

When your project is missing some graphic touch, or needs a pop of color somewhere, why not turn to Elle’s Studio digital cut files to find what you need to add that finishing touch? Cut from any type of cardstock or patterned paper to coordinate with your project and add a custom element! That’s what Kristina Proffitt did today on the new project she’s sharing with us using the August kit and extras. Let’s take a look!

I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t utilize digital files as much as I should, but when I saw the August 2019 Digital Cut File I just knew that it was time to dust off the ol’ Silhouette and make it a point to take advantage of the super cute digitals that coordinate with the kit and add-ons each month!

For this pocket page spread, I used the “love this” pinked circle graphic from the August 2019 Digital Cut File as a focal point for my 6″ x 8″ journaling page. I downloaded the file and opened it in Silhouette Studio software, enlarging it before cutting on a really bright and fun blue cardstock. I loved the Makes Me Smile Cork Circles included in the August add-ons, so seeing some these in digital form made me do a little happy dance!

I just love the die-cut color and I knew that it would give my pocket page just the right amount of POP it needed. I took a sheet of patterned paper from the Sunshine 6 x 6 Paper Stack and adhered it on the back of the graphic so that the colorful, happy polka dots would show through to the front in the letters that were cut out. I simply used washi tape to hold that patterned paper in place on the back of the die cut. I adhered the cut graphic just off of the top edge of the journaling page and cut the excess off. I loved the look of that! 

For the rest of the pockets, I used goodies from the August 2019 Kit and adhered a 2″ x 3″ photo on one of the journaling tags. After adding some simple embellishments, like the Be Yourself Phrase Stickers and Back to School Puffy Stickers, I stamped the date, hand-wrote a little bit and called this spread done!

I love how simple it was to document this story and how the August Digital Cut File provided such a fun pop on my journaling page. Whether you’re using the digital files by cutting them out on your die cutting machine or using them digitally on your photos or to create your own journaling tags, they’re a fun way to give your documenting a POP of fun!

A Summer Magical Memories Mini Album with Melissa Mann

Yesterday, Patricia Roebuck showed us how we can use our Magical Memories collection in pockets to document summer fun, and we’re continuing that magical inspiration today with Melissa Mann! Good morning, friends! This is Melissa here with you and I’m super excited about the mini book I’m sharing with you today! Have you guys been enjoying creating with the Magical Memories collection? It’s not just for Disney memories, you know! I used these products to create a little mini book about my niece’s summer memories, which I plan on gifting to my mom! Even though she didn’t visit the magical theme park this summer, the Magical Memories products were perfect to use to capture the magical moments of summer!

I created the front and back covers of my mini book with some thin chipboard covered with patterns from the colorful Magical Memories 6 x 6 Paper Stack. My inside pages were constructed with paper and Magical Memories Journaling Tags, as well as tags from the August 2019 Kit that I adhered together. I printed a bunch of different photos in varying sizes as I like the look of odd sized pages in my mini books—it’s a fun texture to bring to the table!

I always construct my books in the same way: I create my pages and adhere pictures and once those items are in place, I will then go back and add my journaling. Along with the journaling tags that I used, I printed the August Print and Cut Labels and used them with my typewriter. Once I got my journaling in place, I went back one more time (or two or three!) and started layering in the fun Magical Memories embellishments!

Using the Magical Memories Acetate Die Cuts, Shine Die Cuts, Magical Memories Puffy Stickers and Phrase Stickers, and Makes Me Smile Cork Circles gave me a wide array of textures to keep my mini album interesting and fun to flip through. This is always my favorite part of constructing a mini book!

Summer Memory Wrap-Up with Magical Memories and Patricia Roebuck

Hello, Elle’s Studio friends! The seasons are changing, and for some of us sooner than others! Today we will walk through the last of the summer hurrah my daughter and I shared before heading back into a new school year and a new season by using the Magical Memories collection to create a 6″ x 8″ pocket page!

My summer wrap-up was probably the most special to me. My husband was out of town for two weeks, and that meant it was just the girls. As soon as I asked my daughter what one last thing she wanted to do the most before heading back into a new school year, she said the zoo and the insectarium.  The Magical Memories collection was literally the perfect collection to document our sweet visit into the city. The first thing I wanted to start with was journaling. Using the journaling block from the Magical Memories Stamp, I created my own spot for journaling.  After stamping the lines onto my 2″ x 8″ strip to fit my pocket, I stamped more images in colors that would pull from my photos and the collection, leaving the larger images with words to the edges to not clutter my journaling. In black ink, to add emphasis to my journaling, I stamped “something to remember” vertically to the left, then sent this through my typewriter to add my journaling. To finish this pocket, I added a banner Acetate Die Cut and star die cut from the Magical Memories Journaling Tags in two lighter shades of green to complement and balance the green throughout the spread, as well as bring the eye to my journaling.

After my photos were printed, I arranged them into the pockets, and then pulled the Magical Memories 6 x 6 Paper Stack and Magical Memories Journaling Tags to layer under the smaller photos. Once the printed photos, paper, and tags were in place, I started pulling in embellishments to balance out the colors of the photos and the papers. Starting with the top left 4″ x 6″ photo, I added the Magical Memories Acetate Die Cuts and the Magical Memories Phrase Stickers to work with the photo and break up some of the darker green in the background. This also added to the summer, playful feel of our memory. Adding the month and date with the Lime Green Puffy Alphabet Stickers also helped to break up that dark background, creating balance to the right side.

Knowing that most of my photos have dark green in them, to create some lightness and a resting spot for the eyes, I used a majority white 4″ x 6″ tag from the Magical Memories Journaling Tags to layer under my smaller photo for the next pocket. The colorful, circle icon images on the tag repeat the designs I stamped on my 2″ x 8″ journaling strip. I finished that pocket with a die cut from the Journaling Tags, a wood piece from the At The Castle Wood Veneers and the year using the Mini Dated Stamp.

Moving onto my next pocket, I added a 4″ x 4″ yellow-lined pattern from the Magical Memories 6 x 6 Paper Stack under my smaller photo that balances with the yellow in my shirt and the journaling tag on the left side of the spread.  I also selected a simple design for this pocket, adding only a few embellishments to help accent, since I have two photos I will combine in the bottom pocket, helping to create some space between the pockets.

For my last pocket, I layered the gray grid Magical Memories 6 x 6 Paper Stack pattern, balancing the grey puffy sticker in the top pocket, and the die cut from the bottom left pocket. Next, I selected a 3″ x 4″ Journaling Tag to create a visual triangle of the red in the top and left pockets, and then added an Acetate Die Cut border, die cut from the Journaling Tags, and a Magical Memories Puffy Sticker star in between the photos to finish my spread.

As you work through your summer memories, leave your photos in color, try various photo sizes and/or pockets, create your own journaling spot with stamps, and then add layers, texture, and color using the wonderful Magical Memories collection. Enjoy documenting your summer!
