Hello everyone! I hope you are doing well in your corner of the world! Today I am sharing a project inspired by our latest sketch and I’m so excited about this project! I love working with sketches as a starting point because they so often help me get over the fear of a blank page staring at me. For starters, here is a look at today’s sketch:
For my project, I translated this sketch into a traveler’s notebook spread to document my new-found love of the color pink. I have been a pocket scrapbooker for many years and have just recently taken up the traveler’s notebook format and starting with a sketch has been the only way I can make these pages come together! It was a fun, creative challenge to translate this 12″ x 12″ sketch into a smaller two-page spread:
Supplies | April 2020 Kit, Life Right Now Stickers, Lovely Puffy Stickers, Spring Wood Veneers, Springtime Tabs Stamp, Typewriter Alphabet Stamp, Flourish 6 x 8.5 Paper Stack
Since the theme of my journaling was the color pink, I started by letting that guide some of my decisions. I absolutely love the tiny floral pattern paper included in the Flourish 6 x 8.5 Paper Stack and that was my first pick. I then selected the red and the green patterns. All of those decisions were made based on my theme and the floral paper. Often, when I’m struggling with a spread or just starting a new project, I like to remind myself that I just have to make the next single decision and eventually it will all come together!
The sketch called for a thin border along the top edge of the page, but instead of using more paper for this, I decided to stamp out words and phrases from the Springtime Tabs Stamp in ink to match the bottom border. Another thing I love about sketches is that they are open to your own interpretation and allow for your own personal style to shine through!
For my pages’ title, I decided to use the “hello” and “lovely” script phrase stickers from the Lovely Puffy Stickers. I also stamped out “pink” as a subtitle on the 3″ x 4″ journaling tag from the April 2020 Kit using the awesome Typewriter Alphabet Stamp (these are going to get a LOT of use in my projects!). For the banners in the top right corner, I selected one from the die cuts included in the April Kit and for the gray one, I simply cut it from one of the 3″ x 4″ journaling tags.
Finally, the sketch included a little visual triangle of embellishments, indicated by the stars on the sketch. I decided that a little wood veneer would be a good touch, so I chose two pieces from the Spring Wood Veneers and for the third embellishment, I chose a tiny puffy flower from the Lovely Puffy Stickers.
Working with sketches is so fun! I hope that you will take on this creative challenge and make a project using today’s sketch and share it with us using the hashtag #EllesStudio on Instagram, or in our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group. Happy crafting and be safe out there!
