October Digital Fun with Jen McMurtrey

Hello friends! It’s Jen today with a project featuring our naughty dog, Mildred. Being in the country with a large yard means our dogs are living their best lives every time they go outside. With the cooler, wetter weather, Mildred looks as if she’s rolled in mud each time plays in the field. It’s a good thing I love her!

Today’s project is an 8.5 x 11-inch layout that incorporates several elements from the October 2022 Kit and add-ons, patterned paper, and stamps with coordinating metal dies. I love using new products with those I already have on hand when creating. It is fun to mix and match items to create a perfectly coordinated project. Even better? Using digital files to stretch my supplies that much further!

The multi-colored striped 4 x 6-inch journaling tag in the October 2022 Kit is one of my favorites, but I wanted to use it on a larger scale. To do this, I created my own patterned paper by using the striped tag included with the October 2022 Printables. Using Photoshop, I created an 8.5 x 11-inch canvas and copied and pasted the tag multiple times until the entire page was full. This process was quite easy and lining up the striped pattern was a breeze!

After printing the paper, I used it on the left side of the background along with two papers from the Thankful Paper Stack. I decided to use a torn edge to give the page more texture and dimension.

To back the photo of naughty Mildred, I used patterned paper along with a 4 x 6-inch journaling tag. I used The Tiniest Date Stamp to add the date.

Next, I used what was left of the printed paper with the Outline Large Jane Alphabet Stamp and coordinating Large Jane Alphabet Metal Die to create a portion of the title. I then finished it with Black Puffy Alphabet Stickers and Thankful Die Cuts.

For the journaling, I again turned to the October 2022 Printables, using a green tag and cutting it into strips.

The flowers were next, which I created using another paper from the Thankful Paper Stack and the Sincere Sentiments Best of Friends Add-on Stamp, Best of Friends Add-on Metal Die, and Best of Friends Metal Die. To give the flowers more detail, I stamped and embossed them with clear embossing powder before cutting them out. I love the effect! Last, I used a few blue stickers from the Christmas Tiny Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers around the flowers.

As you can see, I was able to use the October Kit and October Printables and items from my stash to create a unique project. Using digital files may seem overwhelming, but you’ll quickly get the hang of it through trial and error and lots of practice. That’s what I’ve done over the years.

Thank you for stopping by today, and I hope you’ve been inspired to create using those digital products! Remember to post your projects to social media using the hashtag #EllesStudio, or in our Facebook group so we don’t miss your creations!
