Mixing the Old and the New with Jennifer McMurtrey

Hello friends! It’s Jen today with a fun technique to add a bit of bling to your projects. This year I have made it a goal of mine to use the older products I have in my stash, and today’s layout does just
that.

I’m sure I’ve said it before, but I love using cut files on my projects because of the ability to alter them to meet my needs. For today’s project, I worked with the files in two ways to achieve this fun, foiled effect.

To create the foiled title and embellishments, I first printed the files on my laser printer so I would be able to use reactive foil with them. To do this, I simply resized the shapes to my liking in Silhouette Studio software and printed them with the registration marks showing. Doing so allowed me to then go back and cut them on the Silhouette Cameo.

After the files were printed and cut, I used Minc foil from my stash and applied it with my laminator. This entire process is a bit of a learning curve, but YouTube is a great resource whenever you become
stumped.

As I began putting the layout together, I decided I wanted to add more foil to the project. To do this, I used a wide paint brush with reactive spray and painted stripes on the middle of the white
cardstock. Once this was dry, I fed it through the laminator using the gradient silver and teal foil as before. It isn’t glaringly obvious when you look at the layout, but I really like how it turned out.

Next, I began assembling the layout starting with the two photos of Mildred. Prior to adhering them to the background, I matted each with the same vellum that backs the title. The effect is subtle but also
tones down the glare of the foil.

The Good Times Seals Stamp and coordinating Good Times Seals Metal Die were great for adding more embellishments to my project. I used these with patterned paper from the Love You Paper Stack.

Last, I used the Medium Jane Alphabet Stamp with this month’s new Medium Jane Alphabet Metal Die and Play All Day Chipboard Stickers to complete the title. This layout is so fun and fits the
photos of Mildred perfectly!
