Stamping Fun with Suzanna Lee

Did you pick up any of the July stamps yesterday? There are 4, yes, FOUR new stamp sets! Each one of them is AH-mazing! I mean, it’s Elle’s Studio stamps we’re talking here. Of course they are amazing, right?! And, of course, you need all four sets. I can already foresee how two in particular will become a staple in my collection: Summertime Tabs and The Great Outdoors. Mind you, I’ve used all four at least once on every layout I’ve created, so that just tells you how fantastic there are! Today’s layout uses three of the four on an outdoor adventure layout.

Stamps as borders. I do this a lot! Here I have used both a pattern and words to create a “header” and “footer” for my page; the map contour pattern stamped on repeat in brown ink and varying phrases from the Summertime Tabs Stamp in blue. They create a striking border, don’t you think?

In the photo above, I used the tab stamp, in green, from the Summertime Tabs Stamp with the coordinating Everyday Tabs Metal Die, to create a tab for the 3 x 4 inch pocket tag that houses the beginning of my journaling. As I already have used all the relevant words in my borders, I thought this was a great place for the date.

I’m not going to lie, this next use, it’s my favorite. It just takes this project to the next level! Make your own washi! Did you hear the little squeal I let out? I have seen contour washi all over the memorykeeping world lately and am just too darn cheap to pay the shipping for a roll of washi and know myself well enough to know that I can’t not fill my cart. Now, with this amazing The Great Outdoors Stamp, you can make your very own!

All you need is some Japanese Rice paper, the stamp, a stamp block and ink. Oh! And double sided tape. Ink up your contour map stamp (I used VersaFine brown) from The Great Outdoors Stamp and stamp on the rice paper. Repeat as often as you would like. Secure one sticky side of the double-sided tape to the back side of the stamped rice paper. Cut into strips as thick or thin as you would like and voila! Contour map washi! I used a light watercolor wash without ink bleed. Don’t you just LOVE how this turned out?

Above that homemade washi strip is another use of a stamp; the “good times” phrase from the Adventure Notes Stamp. These phrases are a perfect compliment to the outdoor theme of the kit as well as for generic phrases. You could house subtitles in them, or dates—you name it!

We’ll go with one more look at the finished layout with all that subtle stamping using three of the July stamps for you. I do have a process video over on my personal channel if you’re interested in watching how this layout comes together!
