Playful Pockets with the August Kit & Extras and Steph Grimes

Happy August, everyone! It’s Steph Grimes here, and I am going back to my roots on today’s project— 12” x 12” pocket pages! I am still working my way through pages for the second half of 2019 and the August 2020 kit and add-ons was just perfect for documenting the first few days of August last year.

For starters, I just adore the colors in the August Kit and extras! They’re a little more mid-tone and just perfect for those late summer vibes. You’ve probably heard me say before that ES puffy stickers are among my all-time favorite products. This month, I enjoyed using the So Cool Puffy Stickers on my projects. Here I used one of the phrases to add a title to this coral 3” x 4” journaling tag from the August 2020 Kit paired with a cute photo of my youngest niece playing putt-putt.

For these pockets, I used all of the 4” x 6” journaling tags that came in the August 2020 Kit. This polaroid-style gray tag was perfect for adding some smaller photos and story snippets about my nephew from our first beach trip together. I also added the chevron die-cuts from the kit to the “You Make the Sun Shine Brighter” tag to tie in all the colors from my spread.

Sometimes, the tags I want to use are somehow just not right. They might be the wrong size for pockets I have left, a contrasting color that I haven’t included in my spread, or something else. I can’t always fix those things, but in this case, I had a 4” x 6” pocket remaining but no more photos or tags that size to use. So, I cut a small strip of paper and adhered this green 3” x 4” journaling tag and a 3” x 4” photo to it to make it work in this pocket. I do this all the time! It’s just a great way to use products and fill your pockets perfectly.

Another trick I use all the time is really quite simple. I just use the format given to me by the tag and let that guide my design. In this case, this 4” x 6” “remember” tag was perfect for holding a list about the things I wanted to document from this trip. It was perfect for this page since I was able to reflect on the things I remember now about this trip that took place last year and make note of all that I want to recall every time I look back at these photos.
