Summer Pockets with Guest Designer Elizabeth Heinz

Today we are excited to welcome Elizabeth Heinz back to the Elle’s Studio blog to share her final project with us. So far this month, she has inspired us to document our favorite parts of summer and get graphic with bold shapes. Today she’s showing us how to record everyday summer memories in pockets, using our June kit and extras! Let’s take a look at this week’s project!

Hello friends.  I’m delighted to share my final project, a weekly 9” x 12” pocket page spread, using the June kit and add-ons!

Supplies | June 2019 Kit, Here’s the Story Journaling Tags, Summer Phrase StickersSummer Puffy Stickers, Green Puffy Alphabet StickersWood Veneer Stars, Beautiful Day 6 x 6 Paper Stack, Summertime Stamp, Mini Dated Stamp

I always start with photos. I typically print three 4″ x 6″ and three to five 3″ x 4″ photos. When I take and select photos, I choose a combination of close-ups and landscapes, which provides variety and interest. In this particular spread, I also printed a screenshot of a text message from my son, Joshua. I like to take and choose photos with white space so I can add titles or journaling.  If I can add some context to my photos, it gives me more flexibility with my journaling tags.

After photos, I select my 3″ x 4″ tags. Again, I seek a balance of color and filler or journaling tags. I try to repeat two or three colors throughout the spread. This month, I chose green, yellow, and blue, with a few pops of red and orange. For the remainder, I use neutrals like gray, black and white. I then choose my 4″ x 6″ title card to coordinate with my color scheme.

I was very inspired by the journaling card with the numbered hexagon list.  I thought it would be fun to add the die-cut hexagons from the June 2019 Kit and Green Puffy Alphabet Stickers to some of my photos!

When I embellish, I apply simple rules. Repeat, if possible, in odd numbers.  For example, in this spread, I added Summer Puffy Stickers to three pockets, a popsicle, star and heart. I added stars to three pockets: a Wood Veneer Star, die-cut strip from the June Kit and a Summer Puffy Sticker star. I added three word phrase strips to the soccer photo AND the yellow filler card created with the Beautiful Day 6 x 6 Paper Stack. This provides visual triangles and consistency throughout my spread.

Finally, I always try to incorporate stamps. With words and phrases, I often stamp directly on my photos. This month, I used the Summertime Stamp to add detail to three of my journaling tags.

I will add my last project, a 6” x 12” insert, directly into the center of this spread.  I LOVE mixing up the sizes in my album throughout the year.

I hope I provided some insight and inspiration.  Happy crafting!
