Boxing Day Leftovers Mix and Match with Tracey Fox

The day after Christmas, also called Boxing Day, is a great day to use up your holiday feast leftovers, and we thought it would be fun to challenge one of our team members to do the same with their Elle’s Studio kits from 2018! Tracey Fox was up for the challenge, and she used a bit of every single kit from this year! Let’s take a look at her fabulous project:

Happy Boxing Day, everyone! Do you celebrate Boxing Day on December 26th? The day after Christmas Day has a rich and varied history throughout the world, but one of the features of the holiday has included using up Christmas leftovers or giving them to servants along with tips or gifts. My family and I actually have a Boxing Day tradition where we eat Christmas leftovers and play board games all day. And this year, I was inspired and excited to put the concept to use with the Elle’s Studio monthly kits I have been collecting throughout 2018!

Supplies | January 2018 Kit, February 2018 Kit, March 2018 Kit, April 2018 Kit, May 2018 Kit, June 2018 Kit, July 2018 Kit, August 2018 Kit, September 2018 Kit, October 2018 Kit, November 2018 Kit, December 2018 Kit, Autumn Fun Stickers, Adventure Puffy Stickers, Puffy Star Stickers, Acrylic Stars Spring Mix, Mini Dated Stamp, Noteworthy Stamp, All the Details Stamp

I decided that a great way to use up my past kits would be to create a “year-in-review” style layout about 2018, so I printed 12 little photos to highlight each month from this year. I also went through my Elle’s Studio monthly kits and selected an unused 3″ x 4″ tag from each kit to use on the page. I chose tags with a mix of pretty colors, patterns, and sentiments that I felt capture some of my feelings about 2018. I spread the tags out in a vertical band on the left side of my white cardstock background in the same order as the kits from which I selected them. I love how this showcases them in order, and I also like how ending the cascade of tags with the “Hello New Year” tag from the December 2018 Kit adds a touch of excitement about what’s to come.

On the right side of my layout, I laid my 12 photos out in rows and moved on to the FUN part of embellishing on and around them. I arranged leftover die cuts from some of my monthly kits (those kits that actually had some diecuts left!), and I stamped on a couple of them with stamps from the Mini Dated Stamp and the All the Details Stamp (sold out). I filled in the gaps with some more leftover bits from some other products from previous Elle’s Studio releases this year: the Adventure Puffy Stickers, Puffy Star Stickers, Autumn Fun Stickers, and Acrylic Stars Spring Mix. I love the cheery result of these bits and pieces all mixed up together on one page!

Whether you keep your previous kit leftovers organized in order like I did or whether you have them scattered all throughout your stash, I challenge you to try to use some of them up on a single project—Boxing Day style! It’s such a fun way to see how well all of the releases from Elle’s Studio coordinate with each other and can be mixed and matched in millions of ways.

Not to get too sentimental here, but I absolutely love how pairing monthly photos with bits of every 2018 Elle’s Studio kit perfectly sums up the story of my year in memories and in memory-keeping. It’s so fun to see the big picture of the year in both photos and in products from my favorite company. Throughout my many ups and downs from 2018, Elle’s Studio has consistently released beautiful products each month that have helped me tell some of my most important stories, and I can wait to see what’s in store for us in 2019!
