The One Where… with Jamie Leija

Funny stories deserve their own place alongside sweet or poignant ones in our albums, and today design team member Jamie Leija is showing us how to do that in a gorgeous way using the October Kit and add-ons! Let’s take a look at what she created:

Hiya! It’s Jamie and today I’m sharing a coffee-inspired layout using the October 2018 Kit and extras! Confession: I don’t drink coffee. Like maybe in my whole life I’ve taken a sip or two, so all of these coffee related products are totally lost on me. I took a second to think if I had any coffee related stories and the first thing that popped into my head was this story:

The title pretty much tells you everything: “The One Where Becky & I Left the Cafe without Paying (on Accident!)” The title is a play on Friends the TV show. Every episode is named “The One Where….” and I thought it went well with the theme, as this happened in NYC and that show revolved heavily around the coffee shop. I used the black Jane Alphabet Stickers which were the perfect size and font for this long-winded title. And can we take a second to appreciate the “W’s”?! Love them!

I only had one photo from this trip to the cafe and it wasn’t that great of quality. But I knew I could make it work by printing it in a small size. I also used a different photo from that day, but it features the two of us (aka “the offenders”) so it worked to tell the story. I matted them on patterned paper and embellished the top left box with an Autumn Shipping Tag, coffee (or in my case tea) cup wood veneer from the Coffee Journaling Tags and Wood Veneer pack, a die cut from the October Kit and a few of the Puffy Stars and Dots Stickers.

When I set out to make this page I knew I wanted to make stacks of “boxes” using patterned paper. I basically envisioned layering up scraps of patterned paper on top of each other. I did that in the bottom right corner box using the Sweater Weather 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack and tags from the October Kit. I layered in some of the Coffee Journaling Tags and Wood Veneer and scraps of the Autumn Shipping Tags I’d cut off of another page. I mounted these all on vellum so they’d feel a bit more grounded.

The last bit I added were journaling strips to tell this story. I love the balance the text adds to the page diagonally across from the title. I love that on the other diagonal there’s tons of pattern and color! I embellished the text parts of the page very minimally, using a few pieces from the Good Eats Wood Veneer. I also added that awesome “for the record” circle from the Autumn Fun Stickers and a puffy star. The finishing touch was a machine stitched border to add a bit of texture there.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you’ve been inspired to tell your own cafe story with the October Kit and add-ons!
