Today we have Melissa Stinson with us sharing a peek into her Project Life album! Here’s what Melissa has to say:

Even though this particular week in my Project Life album fell in November, I was able to squeeze lots of great Elle’s Studio Christmas items onto it! We always have one week right before Thanksgiving that’s filled with Christmas events we attend early, and often there are more holiday related photos on it than some of the early December weeks!

As a scrapbooker who’s going all-digital next year, I’m thrilled that Elle has started to release monthly digital files along with her kits! Though I’ll be using the PNG files from the digital items on my layouts next year, for my 2014 physical album I’ve been printing out the included PDFs.

A really fun way to get a different look from a printable is to try it out on different types of paper. I printed the same file out on both kraft and vellum in the photo above, and you can see how different they look! These files are also perfect for use with the Silhouette’s Print and Cut feature, though I find that I’m more likely to use them (and keep up with them!) if I simply print the sheet out and then cut just what I need by hand.

With so many dark photos on my pages, I wanted to keep the rest of the spread light. I used lots of neutrals, including woodgrain and gray star papers from the Good Cheer collection and a selection of journaling cards with white backgrounds from the November and December monthly kits and add-ons. Most of the color on the pages comes from the die cuts included in both those kits and the Good Cheer Tidbits package. Lots of pink, aqua, red, and green going on here!

The end of the year is a great time to evaluate your Project Life process and decide if you want to change anything up for the next year. In 2013 I typed almost all of my journaling, mixed round and square corners on cards and photos, and used white borders on all of my photos. For 2014 I went back to hand-writing in my album, chose to round all the corners on my photos and journaling cards, and decided that I’d leave full-pocket photos border-less while adding a bit of white around pictures that are layered on cards to help them stand out more. If you’re tired of a certain part of your process, the size of your album, or the frequency of your layouts, the start of a new year is the perfect time to do something new!
