Happy National Scrapbooking Day 2020!

Happy National Scrapbooking Day (or International Scrapbooking Day for our friends overseas!) We love this hobby and are so excited to celebrate it today! Scrapbooking and memory-keeping not only allows us to be creative, but it also brings us together as a community, gets our photos printed and our stories down in our albums! We also love creating products that allow you to do that easily and beautifully!

First, we have a special offer for you to kickoff this celebration:

Take advantage of this special offer on our digital die cuts and printables to fill up your digital library and start creating!

Now, let’s have some fun recording our memories with the five challenges we have for you today!

Challenge #1 | Start with a rainbow! Can’t decide on a color scheme? Use ALL of the colors by adding a rainbow to your project! Whether with paper, stamps, your title or embellishment, use ROY G BIV to start off your NSD Saturday! We love the way that Tracy Fox did that here with the Title Builder Vol. 4 collection!

Challenge #2 | Create a title with four or more words! Use any alphabet sticker or stamp to create your title of four words or more, like Amanda-jayne Baldwin did here using our Black Cardstock Typewriter Alphabet Stickers! Don’t forget you can mix and match your alphas to create a fun look!

Challenge #3 | Stamp a repeated design on all or part of your background! Whether you use classic black or a rainbow of hues from your ink stash, emboss your stamp designs or use some other fun technique, use your stamps to create a background, the way that Melissa Mann did on this gorgeous page! We love how she used our Sunshine & Laughter stamp!

Challenge #4 | Make a cut file the focal point. Marsha Farris‘ big “adore you” heart cut file from the January 2020 cut files catches your eye first on this traveler’s notebook spread, and sets the tone for her page about a sweet little girl! Use a cut file on your layout to make a big impact!

Challenge #5 | Make it all about YOU! Whether you create a scrapbook layout, traveler’s notebook spread or pocket page, as Jess Forster did here, tell a story about yourself! We often forget to do this in our everyday memory keeping, so take up this challenge and put yourself in your albums!

Complete each separate challenge, using at least two Elle’s Studio product (digitals included!) on your project for a chance to win one of five $25 gift certificates to our shop! We will be randomly selecting a winner from each challenge. If you complete all five challenges, you will also be entered to win a grand prize of a $50 gift certificate to the shop!

Join our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group and post your entries under the corresponding challenge posts, including the grand prize post. Each project will count as one entry, even if you have included multiple challenges in that project.

If you post your projects on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio, you’ll get the chance to be featured on our feed and Stories, but you must post in our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group to be entered to win the challenges!

Entries will close at 11:59pm PST on May 16th, and the winners will be announced here on the blog and in our Facebook Group on May 23rd! Good luck, and we can’t wait to see what you create!

Sketch Day with Amanda-jayne Baldwin

Today we are sharing our second sketch for the month of April, which we think you will love! But, we know you’ll love the inspirational and beautiful layout that Amanda-jayne Baldwin created using it even more! Take a look at what she created, then create your own project using the sketch! Share it on Instagram using the #EllesStudio hashtag, or in our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group! We can’t wait to see what you create!

Hi, Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Amanda here, and boy-oh-boy am I excited to share today’s fabulous sketch! It’s such a fun design, and I’ve even made a process video of this one too but, before I get too carried away, here’s what the sketch looks like…

I told you it was fun! Sketches are a great way to remove the ‘I don’t know where to start’ vibes, or even loosen up a design block! They discourage overthinking, and allow us to just simply enjoy the creative process! Here’s what I created using the sketch:

Supplies | April 2020 Kit, April Labels, Beautiful Day Die Cuts, Office Label Stickers, Life Right Now Stickers, Lovely Puffy Stickers, Flourish 6 x 8.5 Paper Stack

Here’s a closer look at my layout:

Gosh, this is so pretty! The colors and designs in the April Kit are really something!

When it comes to creating with a sketch, I always approach it with my photograph as the focus. For this particular layout, my photograph encouraged me to rotate the sketch by 90 degrees. You’ll notice that my darling girl is positioned on the right hand side of my photo and looking out to the left. By rotating the sketch, I was able to compliment the movement in my photo, and flatter the directional flow.

My photograph also dictated the color scheme for my layout too!

When I looked through the April Kit tags and the Flourish 6 x 8.5 Paper Stack papers, I noticed that there were lots of coral and vermilion reds, peach, and mauve patterns which were not only really pretty, but also complimented my photo. The “let the good times roll” sentiment tag was the perfect descriptor of the memory associated with the photo plus it was also a clever camouflage to hide the seam of the butted together pattern papers (a great trick for maximizing the 6″ x 8.5″ papers for 12 inch scrapbook pages!)

At this point in my creating, I decided to mix things up again, and I rotated that sentiment tag back to its original position. I diverted from the original sketch to make the design work better for me and my storytelling. That’s the great thing about sketches: they get you started, but there’s no rules and you can make it what you want!

To add a bit more interest to my page, I machine stitched & foam-mounted the mauve patterned paper layer. This soft and subtle texture really lifted the design. I also foam mounted my photo cluster for added dimension. Following on from the sketch, I embellished with lots of the Beautiful Day Die Cut florals, and Lovely Puffy Stickers

I mimicked the banner at the top of the original sketch with the floral banner tag, which I further embellished with more of the Lovely Puffy Stickers and some cotton twine.

For finishing touches, I ventured away from the sketch once more. I featured a bit of journaling with the Life Right Now Stickers and Lovely Puffy Stickers and added lots of watercolor splatters to complete the look.

For a more detailed approach, including all the paper measurements, and to hear more of my thoughts on creating from a sketch, please watch my process video here:

I hope you enjoyed watching my video and feel inspired to create along with today’s sketch!

Thanks so much for visiting!

Documenting Growth in a Traveler’s Notebook with Candace Perkins

Hello friends! It’s Candace with you today to share one of my favorite ways to use the Elle’s Studio kits every month: in traveler’s notebooks! I love the compact design of TN spreads and the ability to to tell shorter stories or stories on the go. This month, I chose to tell a few fun spring stories: one about my garden and another about the beauty of spring!

Here is a look at the first spread, all about what I am currently growing in my garden. Spring is the time to do some gardening and I love that April included lots of goodies to inspire me to document my gardening stories.

I used lots of layers throughout this spread to add color and dimension.  I started by creating a few photo stacks and base layers using the Plant Lady Journaling Tags—the perfect product to record gardening! On the left side of the spread, I cut a large tag to act as the base for my photo and journaling pocket. After adhering the tag to the notebook, I tucked photos from my garden and a journaling tag documenting the flowers and herbs I am currently growing into the pocket. I love that I can look back on this and see different things that were planted year over year.

On the right side of the spread, I cut down my photos to 2.5″ x 2.5″ and placed them on top of the Plant Lady Journaling Tags. I love the look of photos cut down on journaling tags to act as both a border and a base! I added a few die cuts from the April 2020 Kit on top of the photos to add more dimension.

To finish the spread, I added a fun mixed title using the Coral Puffy Alphabet Stickers and Black Typewriter Cardstock Alphabet Stickers with a flower from the Spring Wood Veneers.

For my second spread, I used lots of extras from the April Kit to document a few cactus flowers in my yard and a spring quote that always makes me smile. Have you ever considered documenting favorite quotes in your travelers notebook spreads? This is one of my favorite ways to record quotes: tucked safely inside a notebook to revisit often.

To start the spread I colored the “Spring” wood veneer word from the Spring Wood Veneers to match the colors in my photo. Next, I used the new Typewriter Alphabet Stamp to add my quote. I love how bold the quote is and how it takes up the whole left side of the spread! On the right side, I created a photo mat using paper from the Flourish 6 x 8.5 Paper Stack and finished with a label from the April 2020 Kit. Lastly, I created a tab using a journaling tag from the Plant Lady Journaling Tags to easily find the page.

So many of you lovely Elle’s Studio friends have been tagging me at @findingeverydayperfection when you scraplift my spreads and I LOVE it! Please continue to tag us using the hashtag #EllesStudio when you use the Elle’s Studio goodies and get inspired by our creations, or post your project in our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group! Have a beautiful day, stay safe and healthy, and keep documenting! Thanks for stopping by!

Creating A Big, Artsy Title with Suzanna Lee

Titles can tell part of a story on your project—they can introduce what the layout or pocket page is about and catch the reader’s eye to draw them in to the project. Today, design team member Suzanna Lee has created a gorgeous stamped, mixed-media title that illustrates what her layout is all about: one of the things keeping her sane during this pandemic. Let’s see what she created!

Hiya scrappy peeps! It’s Suzanna here today! How are YOU doing today? One of the ways my daughter, Mia, and I try and cope with staying home and social distancing is by puttering around in the garden. I had these photos of her planting her spring planters and found a great quote that matched the feelings perfectly. I could have just typed the quote as part of my journaling but instead I decided to make the quote a very prominent title for the layout. The Typewriter Alphabet Stamp found in this month’s add ons was the perfect way to do that!

Supplies | April 2020 Kit, Plant Lady Journaling Tags, Beautiful Day Die Cuts, This Week Chipboard Stickers, Lovely Puffy Stickers, Springtime Tabs Stamp, Typewriter Alphabet Stamp, Large Jane Alphabet Outline Stamp—Outline, Large Jane Alphabet Metal Die

Varying the shades of grey enabled me to emulate the imperfections of a typewriter while I stamped the title and added visual interest to the page. That, combined with slightly altering the angles at which I stamped each letter, and the bold word “garden” make a bold statement on the page.

Mixed media, the yellow highlighting the watering cans, and the falling water create a scene in and around the large title that integrate the quote into the remainder of the layout. Because the mixed media is minimal, I did not gesso the cardstock as I normally would have done.

I have learned that in order for the each distinct letter to stamp crisply, it is better to stamp one or two letters at a time with the Typewriter Alphabet Stamp than to try and stamp a full word at a time.

Stamping this title was worth the time and effort! Though, really, the more you stamp on your pages, the more comfortable you become with it and the less worried you become about ruining your pages. You actually become more excited about how stamping improves your page! This would have looked so different had I used letter stickers instead of the Typewriter Alphabet Stamp. And just think, you cannot run out! Nor are you stuck with a random collection of odd letters afterwards. AND, you always have the right color so long as you have ALL the ink colors! Perfect titling option, eh?!

Check out the process video of how this layout came together:

Happy Spring Traveler’s Notebook Spread with Guest Lorilei Murphy

Today we welcome Lorilei Murphy back to the blog to share her final guest post with us, and she’s sharing a secret: her favorite new product released this month! Can you guess what it is? Take a look at the beautiful new traveler’s notebook spread that she is sharing below, and we think you’ll figure it out!

Hello, Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Lorilei here today with my final guest post for April. I adore guesting with Elle’s Studio and love every project I come up with! Thank you for having me this month!

I got out my traveller’s notebook this week and printed a large photo for the right side of my spread. I am not kidding when I say that I LOVE the Typewriter Alphabet Stamp! It is a fantastic size, it includes numbers, upper and lower case and punctuation. I can see myself reaching for this stamp over and over!

Supplies | April 2020 Print and Cut Labels, Beautiful Day Die Cuts, Lovely Puffy Stickers, Flourish 6 x 8.5 Paper Stack, Springtime Tabs Stamp, Typewriter Alphabet Stamp

Since I wanted to feature the stamp, I got the idea to stamp a word scramble/word find on the page using the Typewriter Alphabet Stamp. I figured out that I could start with “happy spring” and then just fill in letters to complete the page. I stamped “happy spring’ using multiple colours of ink so it would stand out on the page. I used black ink for the rest of the letters; the page worked out pretty good without planning!

Next, I picked out the gorgeous, fun flowers from the Beautiful Day Die Cuts to embellish the spread. I decided to add clusters in three areas around the spread for a nice balance. I added a big daisy, small single flowers and leaves to each cluster.  I did hand-cut a few extra leaves from the green paper found in the Flourish Paper Stack

I added two phrases from the Springtime Tabs Stamp onto a blue label from the April Print and Cut Labels for just a bit of journaling. A sprinkle of tiny hearts from the Tiny Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers finished off my clusters and page! I love how this spread turned out! Thank you for checking out my project today! I hope you might be inspired to have fun with this incredible stamp set and gorgeous April kit and add-ons!

Hello!  My name is Lorilei Murphy (pronounced Lauralee) and I live with my husband and teenager daughter on a farm about an hour north of Calgary, Alberta.  I have always been a crafty girl and love to try all kinds of art and memory keeping!

Good Times Documented with Marsha Farris

We love that the Elle’s Studio monthly kit and add-ons allow you to get as creative as you want in your time—either pop some coordinating tags and die cuts into a pocket and call it a day, or spend more time to stamp, die cut and embellish! Today, design team member Marsha Farris is showing us how we can get a bit creative using some of our newest products, and document your memories in a beautiful way! Let’s take a look!

Hey, Elle’s Studio friends!  It’s Marsha, and I’m excited to be back to share a new traveler’s notebook layout. For my project today, I used the April 2020 Kit and extras to create a spread documenting a fun family weekend.

Supplies | April 2020 Kit, Basic Grid Journaling Tags, Life Right Now Stickers, Lovely Puffy Stickers, Tiny Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers, Spring Wood Veneers, Good Times Wood Veneer, Flourish 6 x 8.5 Paper Stack, Springtime Tabs Stamp, Everyday Tabs Metal Die

As soon as I saw the new Springtime Tabs Stamp, I knew I wanted to use it in a big way on my layout. To begin the spread, I used the “good times” sentiment stamp from the stamp set along with some light gray ink to stamp a repeat pattern diagonally across the Good Times Wood Veneer. I love how this adds interest to the already amazing wood veneer!

Next, I chose a few journaling tags from the April Kit, along with papers from the Flourish 6 x 8.5 Paper Stack, and used the Everyday Tabs Metal Die to cut out lots of tabs. I also stamped some tabs from the Springtime Tabs Stamp and cut them out using the die. Then, I stamped several sentiments from the set onto the tabs. I used die cuts from the April Kit and stickers from the Lovely Puffy Stickers and Tiny Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers to embellish the tabs.

I began assembling my layout by adding the tab pieces across the top and bottom edge of a white cardstock base, layering them so that the sentiments were visible and the colors were spread around the page. I added my photo and layered stickers from the Lovely Puffy Stickers and Life Right Now Stickers to the edge of the photo.

Below the photo, I added the Good Times Wood Veneer to serve as the title and embellished with a puffy heart from the Lovely Puffy Stickers.

For the left side of the spread, I used a pocket page with two 3″ x 4″ pockets.  I added another one of the tab pieces to the top of a Basic Grid Journaling Tag.  Next, I added a wood veneer piece from the Spring Wood Veneers and handwrote my journaling. For the final pocket, I used a tag from the April Kit and embellished it with another tab and a sentiment sticker from the Lovely Puffy Stickers.

I love how this layout turned out using the versatile Springtime Tabs Stamp, along with the gorgeous April 2020 kit and add-ons. I hope I have inspired you to get crafty using your new Elle’s Studio supplies! Remember to share your projects with us in our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group or by using the hashtag #EllesStudio on Instagram. We can’t wait to see what you create!

Designed with Dated Stamps and Meghann Andrew

Hello Elle’s Studio fans! It’s Meghann Andrew with you today and I’m here to talk to you about the three different mini date stamps available in our shop: Mini Dated, Mini Dated Extras and Mini Days of the Week!

While these three stamps may look different to you, they all coordinate together perfectly and, whether you use them together or separately, will produce wonderful, customized date tags, labels and elements in any project you create! Mixing and matching the coordinating elements, numbers, phrases and words will add not only dates, but also interesting design elements to your tags. Add them to any project—from a pocket page to a planner spread—to add a customized element!

Whether you create your own tags using smooth, white cardstock or stamp on our customizable tags, like the Basic Grid Journaling Tags or the Polka Dot Journaling Tags like I used here, you’ll love creating just the right tag, in any color that you may have in your ink palette!

I created a fun video to show you just a few of the endless possibilities that these three stamps can provide for your papercrafting projects! Watch and see how I use them separately and together to create 10 different tags in just. a few minutes!

I hope I’ve shown you a few ideas that you can use in your own projects, but we would love to see what you’re creating with these stamps, too! Share how you are using them in our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group, or on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio!

A Different Spring Break Documented with Kristina Proffitt

The days we are living lately might look a bit different than before, and trips or events that we have had planned may have been changed to keep us safe. These stories still need to be recorded, even if they didn’t go exactly as planned, and that’s what DT member Kristina Proffitt did here by documenting her spring break “stay-cation”! Let’s take a look!

March was a weird month—I’m sure you probably all can relate, but it was nice to take some time off for spring break last month, relax and spend a lot of time outdoors. The weather has been beautiful lately and the sun is SO good for the soul. I loved pulling out some more April kit and add-on goodies to create this simple and sweet documentation of a few days of our week.

Supplies | April 2020 Kit, This Week Chipboard Stickers, Lovely Puffy StickersSpring Wood Veneers

I’m a big fan of any and all Elle’s Studio wooden embellishments and so this one from the Spring Wood Veneers was perfect—not only because the sentiment pertained to spring, but also because of what is going on in the world. I also love the new This Week Chipboard Stickers, and the layering of them on the photo made it kind of look like a sun and blue sky, don’t ya think? Oh, and I didn’t realize until AFTER I took the photo just what my sweet son Jack was doing to his brother, which cracked me up! I swear they love one another and are good kids—they’re just a little obsessed with Nerf guns right now!

Something that I’ve been sure to do lately is get out to walk and get fresh air, so this photo of where I’m standing was a must for this layout and the “life is good” puffy sticker from the Lovely Puffy Stickers was perfect. It’s SO important to be grateful and SEE THE GOOD in it all.

The Spring Wood Veneers are so good. I loved using the “spring break” piece on the top of the 4″ x 6″ green journaling tag from the April 2020 Kit. I always keep my pages pretty simple, but some great stickers, chipboard or wooden embellishments are easy additions to give your page some depth and  a bit of fun and texture!

I am loving the “Story of Today” tag in this month’s kit. I used it to tell the story of my daughter and her art. I loved the little addition of the puffy flower sticker, too. The 4″ x 6″ journaling tag in the kit was perfect for adding the journaling about our time outside during spring break. I love all of the different opportunities to use the April 2020 Kit to get these stories down.

I know what’s going on right now in the world is unprecedented. I know it’s a bit uncertain and honestly a bit scary, but it’s a great time to grab some scrapbooking goodies and get those feelings down, friends. It’s always a good idea to document the everyday happenings in your family and you’ll look back on all of this one day and not only have a lot of gratitude, but you’ll be able to see just how your life changed a bit during it all.

I was super thankful to have a spring break in the beginning of all of this. It was a good time to take some deep breaths, enjoy the sunshine and get some scrapbooking done, but I want you to remember that you can take those deep breaths every day and that the sun will still shine and that you can and should be documenting your life right now. You are living in history and your stories will be a treasure for your family!

Here’s to brighter days ahead, a lot of deep breaths, sunshine and scrapbooking!
