Document December Inspiration: Week 05

Hello, friends, and Happy New Year! Today we’re bringing our final post of Document December inspiration from our amazing 2020 design team, and we can’t wait to share how they are finishing off their December albums! Let’s take a look!

Patricia Roebuck

Patricia is documenting her advent calendar in this spread, and we just love the vellum title page that she added on the right using our Large Jane Alphabet Stamps and Document December Kit.

Suzanna Lee

Suzanna chose to document a special delivery and how her family spent Christmas Eve on these spreads using our Document December Kit. We love how she used the Pocket, Frame, and Flip Up Metal Die to add extra journaling to her pages, too.

Tracey Fox

Tracey is recording an epic baking day on this layout, and we just love her title in the round created with our Dark Red and Dark Green Puffy Alphabet Stickers.

Melissa Mann

Melissa is recording lots of festive moments: the Christmas tree, Grinchy decorations and baking adventures using our Document December Kit!

Amy Jo Vanden Brink

Amy Jo created the sweetest tiny envelopes as embellishment to a family photo using our Fa La La Paper Stack and Document December Kit. We just love this spread!

Amanda-jayne Baldwin

Amanda created the sweetest pages to record Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day in her album in such a lovely way using our Document December Kit! We especially love how she used our Merry Christmas Card Front Tags to create her beautiful page for Christmas Day.

Jess Forster

Jess created a magical spread in her mini album using our Document December Kit, and we love the special moment she captured of her kiddos in front of the tree!

Kristina Proffitt

Elf antics abound in these awesome pages created by Kristina using our Document December Kit and Elf Approved Stickers! We love her small 2″ x 2″ pockets filled with fun!

Marsha Farris

Marsha used our newest dies in such fun ways on this spread to record her son and his teach gifts. Her trio of hearts created with our My Heart Metal Die on the left balances a tag created with our Merry Christmas Card Front Tags and a pocket created using our Pocket, Frame, and Flip Up Metal Die on the right.

Jennifer McMurtrey

Last, but not least, we love the shiny title page that Jennifer created using our Large Jane Alphabet Stamps that opens to reveal hidden journaling. She balanced that with a fun embellished tag created with our Pocket, Frame, and Flip Up Metal Die that flips up to hold extra photos. What an interactive and beautiful spread!

We hope that these posts have inspired you to finish off your December albums, and in case you missed any, be sure to click the links below to see more inspiration!

Wrapping Up 2020 with Jess Forster

Can you believe that it is New Year’s Eve, friends? If you’re reading this, we made it! A new year is almost upon us. I think we can all agree, that the year 2020 has been chaotic and stressful. Maybe for those reasons you are considering giving up documenting this year. I am here to say: Don’t give up! A simple summary page could be one way to highlight some good things in an otherwise not great year. Have a look!

Supplies | December 2020 Kit, Stitched Stars Wood VeneerAutumn Days 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack

On this 9″ x 12″ layout, I created a synopsis pocket page of my favourites over the last year. I used the 4″ x 6″ “pause and reflect” and 3″ x 4″ “2020 favourites” journaling tags from the December 2020 Kit as jumping off points for my page. As always, Elle’s journaling tags have great prompts to get you started if you’re not sure where to begin. Here I cut the 4″ x 6″ tag in half so I could use more photos in my layout.

I selected four photos and downloaded one image of the Mandalorian—my family’s favourite show of 2020. My initial thought was to turn all these images into black and white; however, I decided to use a variety of colour and black and white photos. Each photo was sized to 3″ x 4″ in Photoshop Elements. I selected these pictures as they represent my favourite memories from the year; this included our family Christmas photo where every member of my family was looking at the camera, a picture of me running my first trail race and my kids during our summer camping vacation.

Next, I used pops of teal on the labels from the December Kit to create a visual triangle around the page. I clustered the die cuts by pairing them with the beautiful Stitched Stars Wood Veneer to add some depth or texture to my layout.

Overall, the twenty twenty was a stressful year, but it is worth documenting, even if it’s just simple moments. Just a few journaling tags and embellishments from the December 2020 kit and add-ons can help you record some of the details you want to remember from 2020.

On a final note, this is my last blog post for the Elle’s Studio Design team. I want to personally thank Elle Price and Meghann Andrew for having me on this lovely team. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Elle’s products these last three years. Some of my all-time favourite pages were created because of Elle’s great designs. I know I will cherish these layouts forever. As a hospital worker, I need a little more down time in the coming year, but I can’t wait to see what the new creative team will make in 2021! Like you, I will become a subscriber and to continue to document my family life with the monthly kit in 9″ x 12″ format. Thanks for reading and I wish you and yours a happy, healthy and creative 2021!

Happy New Year from all of us at Elle’s Studio! We can’t wait to see how you wrap up your 2020 albums using our products, or set up a fresh, new album for 2021! Share what you’re finishing and beginning with us in our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group and on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio!

Wrapping up 2020 With Amy Jo Vanden Brink

Hello Elle’s Studio fans! I’ve got a great project for my last post of the year: a look back at 2020. This project features tags straight from the December 2020 Kit, which features tags and die cuts perfect for this type of project! I found this very easy to pull together using the kit, and the yellow and blue color scheme to be very calming. It was a nice break from holiday documenting!

Supplies | December 2020 KitJoyful Chipboard Stickers

My photos included family shots from various parts of the year and a self portrait from the very beginning of the year. In order to make the dual color scheme work and not feel odd, I tried to use it across the whole page.

I pulled the two yellow “family fun” and stars tags from the December Kit, pairing them with the “2020 favorites” and “pause and reflect” tags. These are perfect for summing up the year on your project.

Using the die cuts from the kit along with the Joyful Chipboard Stickers, I added small embellishments to the blue and yellow color scheme with stars, asterisks and labels.

This layout is a great way to end my 2020 album, and it was nice to start thinking ahead to my 2021 album as I was working on this page.

Thank you for stopping by today to check out my project! I hope that you get a chance to look back at this odd year and start getting excited for documenting in 2021—it’s just around the corner!

Show us how you are finishing off your 2020 album! Post your project on Instagram using the #EllesStudio hashtag or in our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group!

5 Ways with the My Star Metal Die

We just love how our design team has been using our My Star Metal Die this month on their projects, and today we wanted to share 5 different ways you can incorporate their techniques into your own projects!

  1. Create a shaker pocket | Meghann Andrew created a fun star-shaped window using the My Star Metal Die along with the Pocket, Frame and Flip Up Metal Die. Just by adding a piece of actetate across the window, sequins and dimensional adhesive, you can make a custom shaker pocket! How fun!

2. Use a star as a tab for a tag | Suzanna Lee certainly thought outside of the box when she created these full-sized tags in her Document December album using stars from our My Star Metal Die at the top of her tags, allowing them to peek outside of her vellum pockets. What a fabulous idea!

3. Create a starry mixed-media background | Katarina Prevendarova’s background using the My Star Metal Die cut from different mediums like cardstock and patterned paper, then painted and stamped with phrases from our My Star Stamp creates an amazing base for her winter photo! Using the metal die and stamp together creates so many different creative possibilities for your projects!

4. Add a starry wreath | We love this wreath of stars that Marsha Farris created on her traveler’s notebook spread cut from the Christmas Basics and Fa La La Paper Stacks, paired with the My Star Stamp. What an eye-catching design, and we love that she even added a star embellishment to her title, “joy!” If your Document December pages are not complete yet, consider trying this in your own album!

5. Back your star die cuts | We tend to use die cuts by adhering them to the page, but we love how Patricia Roebuck backed her die cuts not once, but twice using our Bright Polka Dot Paper Stack and Summer Fun Paper Stack. What a creative way to use those dies!

We love our newest die, and we hope you love creating with it, too! Share your projects using the My Star Metal Die with us using the #EllesStudio hashtag on Instagram, and in our Elle’s Studio Facebook Group!

Joyful Moments with Marsha Farris

Hey, Elle’s Studio friends!  This is Marsha, and I am here today sharing a traveler’s notebook layout created with the amazing December kit and add-ons, using the Joyful Chipboard Stickers as my main embellishment. I am still working away on my December album and this month’s release was perfect for a layout documenting this sweet photo of my niece and nephews.

Supplies | December 2020 Kit, Document December 2020 Kit, December 3 x 8 Inch Journaling Tags, December Labels, Comfort and Joy StickersJoyful Chipboard Stickers, Christmas Basics 6 x 8.5 Inch Paper Stack, My Star Stamp

Chipboard stickers have always been some of my favorite embellishments, and I love using them on my layouts. They add the perfect amount of dimension to a project, and Elle’s Studio chipboard stickers include such awesome designs and colors. On my layout, I wanted to use the Joyful Chipboard Stickers in a fun and different way! I chose to layer them along the sides of a striped tag from the December 3 x 8 Inch Journaling Tags. By color-blocking the embellishments, it kept the design from appearing too cluttered or busy.

These chipboard stickers, layered with some die cuts from the December Kit, Document December Kit and stickers from the Comfort and Joy Stickers were the perfect embellishments for my layout. I also added some stamped dots and stars using the My Star Stamp with black ink. This page came together so quickly using the chipboard stickers as my main embellishments!

On the right side of the spread, I decided to keep it simple by using a pocket page. I printed my photo in black and white and added it to the top pocket. I embellished it with another chipboard sticker and stamping using the My Star Stamp. The bottom pocket was the ideal spot for my layout title, using the word “joyful” from the Joyful Chipboard Stickers layered over a dot patterned paper from the Christmas Basics Paper Stack. I added my journaling to a green label from the December Labels and added a few more stamped stars to finish off the page.

I hope I have inspired you to create a project with the Joyful Chipboard Stickers and your December Kit. Be sure to share your projects using the hashtag #ellesstudio on Instagram or by posting in the Elle’s Studio Facebook Group. We can’t wait to see what you create!

Amanda-jayne Baldwin

Elf antics, Santa cookies and holiday crafting have all been recorded in Amanda’s album so beautifully using our Document December products! We especially love her “Aussie Santa Cookies” page, and the way that she used our Dark Red and Dark Green Puffy Alphabet Stickers along with our Deck the Halls Puffy Stickers and Jane Tile Alphabet Stickers from our Document December Kit to build her title!

Amy Jo Vanden Brink

Amy Jo’s simple, shaped album is really perfect for the past holiday memories that she wants to record. Having a pretty title created with our Large Jane Alphabet Stamp and Fa La La Paper Stack across from an enlarge photo really makes for a striking spread!

Setting Up 2021 For Success with Stacie Watson

Hello and Merry Christmas, Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Stacie here with you today to share some of my tips on setting up my memory keeping for success in 2021. How is it already time for a new year? I know at times this year has seemed to drag on forever and has had it’s challenges for sure, but I still can’t believe that it’s almost over. I’ve been doing pocket page scrapbook for my main memory keeping for ten years, and I’ve learned a few tips that have helped me to not become overwhelmed or get so frustrated that I say I’m done, no more. I love adding my memories to albums. I love the supplies that are out there and I love looking back at my albums and reliving those memories.

Supplies | 2021 Calendars, Monthly Highlights 3×8 Journaling Tags, Weekly Die Cut Labels, Acetate Months, Large 2021 Wood Veneer, Notes From Today Stamp

For the past ten years I’ve used a 12″ x 12″ album, with the exception of two years where I used 9″ x 12″ albums. 12″ x 12″ is my go-to size because it really has a lot of flexibility to it. At the beginning of 2020 I started out with a 6″ x 12″ sized album and quickly realized that that size wasn’t going to work for me. With a 12″ x 12″ sized album I know that I can always create smaller pages if there is a week that I don’t want to or can’t fill in that size. My first tip is to make sure that you choose an album size that is right for you. If you’re new to pocket page scrapbooking and just the thought of a 12″ x 12″ album overwhelms you, go for a smaller size. For me, when I decide I want to do something different then 9″ x 12″ is the size that I go to. I know that 6″ x 8″ is to small for me for my year long memory keeping. Pick a size that you know you can work with.

I LOVE the Acetate Months, and I know that I want to include them in at the beginning of every month. Since you get all of them at one time I will go through my album and add them into one of the pockets, that way when I come to the start of that month they are already there and ready to be used. I’m not the best at remembering to include the week number or even the dates of the week on my spreads, so the 2021 Calendars and the Weekly Die Cut Labels to the rescue! I love that again you get all of them at one time, so I’ll do the same with these as I did the acetate months. That way they will already be in the pockets of my album and I’ll have dates for each of my weeks.

I’m not the best at journaling. I tend to focus more on the photos and the pretty journaling tags and embellishments instead, but when I look at other peoples’ albums who do a lot of journaling, I always think that I need to do way better at actually writing the story down. I may remember why I took the photo for a few years, but I wont always remember. So I like to have an easy way of writing down the things that happen in a week that also makes it easy to add to my album.  I really like the Notes From Today Stamp. You can either stamp these into your planner to make quick notes of the day (and check off what kind of day it was). I like the idea of creating some simple journal pages like in the photo above, and when I’m working on spread I can just simply add the pages to album and my journaling is done. I don’t have to use up more time telling the story again. The same can be done with the Monthly Highlights Journaling Tags. These would be easy to quickly jot down what you want to remember and keep in your planner!

These are just a few tips to help get you organized and started for the new year.  I hope you found them helpful and will want to include them in the new year to help you stay on top of your memory keeping! I hope y’all have a very Merry Christmas and may the new year bring you awesome memories to document! Thanks for stopping by today!
