Why did you start scrapbooking and how did you get started?
My very first job when I was 16 was at a scrapbooking store in Redmond, WA called Yesterdays. At first I was embarrassed cause I thought it was a corny hobby, but it only took a few days for me to realize how much I loved combining favorite photos and memories with beautiful papers and embellishments! I’ve been scrapbooking ever since so over 10 years now.

What are three products you can’t live without?
Sewing machine, punches, and spray mist.

What do you listen to/watch while scrapbooking?
I used to watch whatever movie I felt like watching at the time, but now that I scrapbook during my son’s naps and after he goes to bed, the silence is golden 🙂

What is your favorite color combination?
Bright and colorful and happy!

What/who inspires you?
Right now I’m really into quilts like to incorporate the designs and patterns into my backgrounds.

Alright, now it’s time to give away Paige’s favorite Elle’s Studio items!

Just leave a comment to be entered to win: One And Only Note Tags, Pennants – Brights, and Mix & Match Vintage Number Tags – set of 31 – RED. One comment per person, please. We’ll draw the winner this Wednesday, March 28th, 2012.

Sketch Thursday 03.22.12

Happy sketch Thursday and happy Spring scrappy friends!! I’m excited to share another fun sketch this week. This one inspired by Valerie’s She’s Eight layout from the February Inspiration gallery.

Our fabulous design team is back with two great samples this week. Yay!
Kimberly said: This sketch inspired me with the banner across the bottom of the photograph. I love banners everywhere these days. With each package of goodies from Elle’s Studio, there is a fun piece of cardstock quality paper background. I used mine to punch pennants and layered them. I did this as well for the banners on the top left side. I don’t like to waste goodies, and love to find treasures with in the packaging.
Kim Said: I loved the simple clean lines of the first layout so I wanted to keep my layout looking fresh too. I swapped up the banners below the photo with some sequins and also switched my journalling and photo around.  I opted for some hidden journalling in the chevron bag where I also placed a tag from the love story kit from February. Do you spy that turquoise pennant covering part of my photo? When I took the photo and I came to edit it there was a little boy on the edge of my shot…east solution I covered it with the pennant and no one will ever know!
We’d love to see you play along with this sketch for a chance to win a $10 Elle’s Studio gift certificate. Link must be posted by 11:59pm on Wednesday, March 28, 2012.  Gift certificate can be used towards purchase of products only and can NOT be used for shipping charges. Gift certificate balance must be used in a single transaction.

Project Life

It’s another week of Project Life here at Elle’s Studio.  This week I am sharing the week of March 5- 11th in my Project Life album.
This week, I took a slightly different approach while creating my Project Life layout.  As I was flipping through my photos, and particularly through my iPhone/Instagram photos, I noticed a reoccurring theme for this week: change.
Whether it be the daylight savings time change, the change in weather, change in haircuts and shoes, the announced change in my beloved NFL team, or even how many times a day my daughter likes to change her clothes, the theme of “change” was a huge focus for the week.  I still focused on the who/what/when/where/why of our week, but told many of our stories through the lens of change.
It’s fun to switch things up a bit in your Project Life.  Whether you focus on a theme (like “change” or “favorites”), a word (like “new” or “growth” for spring) , or a challenge (using the kid’s “backpack art”, pieces that come in the mail that week, or only using iPhone photos), you might spark some new ideas for your Project Life album.
Lately, I have really enjoy including small layouts in my Project Life album.  I have found that I am able to design a layout very quickly (and with less “fuss”) when I know it’s for Project Life.  I love having a variety of items in my Project Life– so why not add a layout here and there?  This mini layout (an 8.5 x 11) highlights my son’s favorite things at school.
One item I love to incorporate into Project Life are the Elle’s Studio Pennants.  They are perfect for layering over an instax photo, or using as a title.  Elle’s new Bright and Vintage Pennants have fun bold colors!
We have a winner from last week’s giveaway!  Congrats to Jennifer!   Please send us an email at info@shopellesstudio.com with the following info:

Make It Sunday with Melissa Mann

Hey everyone! My name is Melissa Mann and I live on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico in Pensacola, FL! I’m married to the best guy, Troy, and we have two dogs, Sammy and Lucy, and one cat, Daisy. I first started scrapbooking in 2005 – shortly after we moved here from Maryland. Since then, it has slowly overtaken our spare bedroom! I have been privileged to be published in CARDS, Scrapbook Trends, & Create magazines. I also design for American Crafts, Blue Moon Scrapbooking, SEI, The Green Frog Studio, and Lawn Fawn. My day job consists of being a team lead for the front desk team at a condominium resort in Perdido Key, FL.

Here’s how this layout came together:
1. I matted a piece of the “Hazy Horizon” pattern paper with Kraft card stock. I sprinkled some Clay and Dark Calico Mr. Huey across the paper.

2. I then stitched down some different strips of paper across the top and bottom of my layout with my sewing machine.

3. I cut the flaps off of the Kraft envelopes and placed them down and then stitched across the very bottoms of them (that way I could still fit my pictures & journaling blocks in the envelopes).

4. Then came the fun part of picking out different tags to embellish each envelope with. I played around with the placement of it all until I liked everything and then I adhered it down. (Products used: Collected Cutouts, Number Tidbits, One & Only Strips, Collected Note Tags, Make a List 3 x 4 Journaling tags)

5. I did a little bit of stamping on a couple of the tags. I also tucked in some other embellishments such as word stickers, the badge, and chipboard heart.

6. After that I placed my photo and journaling card into each envelope.

7. I created a little banner in the upper right hand corner by cutting out some of the pennants and cut a bit off each of the tops of them and stitched that down.

8. Lastly, I stitched a piece of the Pink Paislee trim down to my layout, placed my title on top of it, and my typed journaling strip underneath it.

Our Make It Sunday blog series has been taken over by past members of our design team! We are so excited to see their work featured again, here at our site! Look for a different past design team member each week.

Sketch Thursday 03.15.12

Hello and welcome to another sketchy Thursday! Today’s sketch is inspired by Meghann’s ‘engaged’ layout from the February inspiration gallery.

I played along again this week and created this quick (double purpose ;)) layout:

I think it’s really fun to mix and match alphas and fonts so I mixed the flashcards + thickers for my title.

And, the supplies used here are this month’s specials. Don’t forget to take advantage of these prices good until the end of March only!

Ok. So, who’s ready to get some scrapping done? Join us for a chance to win a $10 Elle’s Studio gift certificate. Link must be posted by 11:59pm on Wednesday, March 21, 2012.  Gift certificate can be used towards purchase of products only and can NOT be used for shipping charges. Gift certificate balance must be used in a single transaction.
