Sketch Thursday

Hey there, scrappy friends! Today’s sketch is inspired by Sarah Hill’s CHA Festivities layout from the March DT gallery.

I’m a big fan of circles! I’ve done many (many) circle layouts and I love every one of them. So of course, I had to play along this week 🙂 I mixed the You and Me and Day to Day collections for this one. Aren’t the colors gorgeous? Also, I love how I was able to use the You and Me collection for a non- valentine layout!

Now it’s your turn! Show us what you make with this sketch or tell us what you think. Link your projects or leave a message to this post for a chance to win a $10 gift certificate to the store. We’ll randomly select a winner and will post with the sketch next Thursday.

fun with cards

Hi everyone! I’m super excited to introduce a new blog feature… fun with cards! We love using Elle’s Studio tags for scrapbook layouts and Project Life but these tags are also the perfect size for making cards. Every other week we’ll feature a particular product and show you different ways you can use them to make cards. Today it’s all about a classic staple… pennants!

Here, I used a simple pennant to bring attention to the main card design and another one to stamp the sentiment on.

On this card, I started with the large journaling tag and extended the banner with papers and tags. I replaced some of the chevrons with matching papers and added sequins to make it a bit more festive.

Finally, I stacked a few pennants and brads in different sizes and colors to create this fun and funky (and super simple) card. When you need something quick, this is the way to go!

There’s so many great things you can do with pennants (I might need to revisit this topic for sure!). We hope you enjoyed this series and are inspire to create. Have a great week!

Project Life

This week’s Project Life covers the week of February 25-March 3.

This week happened to be my daughter’s fifth birthday, so a huge part of my Project Life spread focused on her!

Her actual birthday was on a Tuesday, and her party was the following Saturday, so really, that was the majority of my focus for this week!  The left side of the spread highlighted her birthday, some party planning, surprising my son at school, and a nice note from his teacher.

This week included an insert– I trimmed one of Becky Higgins Design A Project Life pocket pages down the center.  I often love to do this for a quick an easy insert.   Since this week focused quite a bit of my daughter’s birthday, I thought I would highlight some of her favorite things.  What better to showcase than Barbie?

I loved Barbie as a little girl and my daughter is just now getting into Barbie.  She got the Camper for her birthday.  When I saw this catalogue in our mailbox a few weeks ago, I held onto it because I loved the oversized Barbie image.  I love how accurately Barbie portrays current culture (and has for so many years!), so I thought this would be wonderful to include in Project Life.

The back side of the insert shows my daughter with her Barbie gift and the backside of the magazine cover.

The right page focuses on Jordan’s birthday party.  Many of our family members were traveling overseas this week.  We thought it was neat that my mom, brother, and sister were at the Jordan River on my daughter Jordan’s birthday, so I included one of their photos.   I enjoyed mixing it up and added bits and pieces of what was going on in other family members lives this week.

I used quite a bit of the Serendipity collection that will be arriving in our shop soon!  This collection is perfect with bright springtime colors!

Congrats to Kim Jackson! You won last week’s giveaway! Please email michelle@shopellesstudio.com the following info to claim your prize:

your favorite Elle’s Studio products: 2013 4×3 Vintage Note Calendars, Day to Day Right Here Stamp Set, and You and Me 2×3 Stamp Set

What are the three products you can’t live without?
Embossing powder, stamps, and kraft cardstock.

What do you listen to/watch while scrapbooking?
I like to listen to either the blessed silence of my home or Pandora when I scrap.  Favorite channels include Penguin Cafe Orchestra. Whitton, Cold Play, Mumford and Sons, She & Him, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Pink Martini, Train, Sister Hazel, The Weepies, Dave Matthews, and lately, Mamuse has been playing.

What is your favorite color combination?
This changes all the time.  Right now it’s teal, and a spinach green with a spot of red.  Or hot pink and sunny hello.  I’m also super happy about metallics, especially in the glitter varieties lately.

What is your favorite thing about scrapbooking?
When I scrap about people I love, spending the 3-5 hours I do on each page allows me to think about them during the whole process.   I think that strengthens my love for them.

Do you have a scrapbooking goal?
I’ll never be caught up, I don’t even pretend to try, so my goals are more industry based.  I’d love to have a magazine cover in the next three years, then I’ll be done 🙂

Today we are giving away three of Emily’s favorite Elle’s Studio products!
