Project Life

This week’s Project Life covers the week of May 20- 26th.

This week was the last week of school and when we left for vacation– so needless to say, I didn’t have an overabundance of photos because it was SO busy!   I used what I had and made it work– and I love it!

I used a mixture of Cameron, Saltwater, the Elle’s Studio May Kit and paired it with various items from Jenni Bowlin Studios.  Everything fell into place while creating this spread.
My son had a wonderful Kindergarten teacher this year and wanted to take some time to document her and his year.  I included a note she wrote to me and also included an interview with Jonah at the end of the school year using the “My Favorites” card found in the Cameron Large & Medium Journaling Tags.
I included an insert this week of a something that Jordan creates every Wednesday night at our family dinners– before dinner she has us all “sign in” with her and she puts a stamp by our names.  It’s really funny and she’s been doing it for about a month now.

I trimmed an 8×10 page protector to fit the insert  and used Jenni Bowlin paper tape to seal the page protector.

We want to feature your Project Life album!  During the last week of each month we will be featuring a couple Project Life spreads that caught our eye in the Member Gallery.  We will be posting Project Life spreads on our blog tomorrow!   If your spread is featured we will be sending you a $5 gift card to use in our store.   Good Luck!

First, we are sharing this gorgeous layout by Elle’s Studio Design Team Member Keri Babbit.  I just love the soft colors and pops of green in this layout– so beautiful!

Next we are sharing this beautiful layout by Wendy Morris.   I love all the layers she created in this layout and how she used the pie chart in the Cameron Large and Medium Journaling Tags

Now, we have a fun challenge for you!   Create a layout using both Elle’s Studio and Jenni Bowling products, post them to both our Member Gallery and the JBS Member Gallery.  Two winners will be drawn on June 30th.  One winner will receive a $25 Elle’s Studio Gift Certificate, and one winner will receive a $25 Jenni Bowlin Gift Certificate!   We can’t wait to see what you make!

Guest Designer Spotlight: Emily Spahn

I am happy to introduce you to our June Guest Designer, Emily Spahn!

name: Emily Spahn
location: Chicago ‘burbs
blog: http://justem.typepad.com/scrapbookery
twitter: @justemspahn
favorite Elle’s Studio products: Saltwater tabs, Cameron Pattern Papers, Cameron Frames

I was so thrilled when Emily agreed to be our June Guest Designer!  I have loved her work for a long time and was excited to see what she would do with our two new collections, Saltwater and Cameron.  And goodness, she rocked it!  Make sure to see her full gallery for incredible inspiration!   Thank you so much for joining us this month Emily!!   Now to get to know her a little better….

Why did you start scrapbooking and how did you get started?

I started scrapbooking in about 5th grade!  I wanted a way to keep track of all my photos, so I grabbed some white typing paper and crayons and I was off.  I’ve been scrapbooking more seriously the past 5 years, and I’ve gotten much more involved in the online scrapbooking community and the whole world of publishing and design teams, which is very fun and exciting.

What are three products you can’t live without?

Patterned paper, alphabet stickers, and my stapler!  I am a pretty basic scrapper! 🙂  I will admit however that the purchases of my Canon Selphy printer and my Silhouette Cameo have completely changed they way that I scrap!!  So perhaps I should add them to the list!

What do you listen to/watch while scrapbooking?

I have a great playlist on my iPod and also a Pandora station that is always on when I am scrapping.  I like a really random mix of music!  The last few songs I downloaded from iTunes include Serena Ryder, Pinack, Passion Pit, and the Glee cast!  I used to have a television in my scrap space, but I finally decided that when it was on I did far too much watching and not sought creating!  So now, music it is!

What is  your favorite color combination?

Lately I am loving aqua + orange

Do you record every moment or just special ones?

A long time ago. I read Stacy Julian’s book. “Big Picture Scrapbooking” and it completely changed the way that I scrap.  I only record a fraction of our life.  I’ve come to realize, while it might sound a bit backward. that my main goal in scrapbooking is a creative outlet for myself.  Therefore, I don’t necessarily scrapbook because I am trying to record every memory. I scrapbook what I feel like, when I feel like it!  This makes the entire process so much more fun and less stressful.  I get stressed out hearing people talk about being “caught up”.  I’m happy that I haven’t put that pressure on myself, because I know i would never, ever be caught up!

What are three facts about yourself that other’s might not know?

1.  I am a music teacher and a musician (I use that term lightly).  I played the trombone in my college marching band and was lucky enough to perform at two Rose Bowls.

2. I have been a vegetarian since I was 10 years old.  According to my mom, I actually stopped eating meat when I was about eight, but didn’t make my “official proclamation” until 5th grade!

3.  Making anything other than a layout terrifies me.  Cards. Mini Albums. Altered projects.  They all make me shiver in fear! 😉

We are giving away Emily’s favorite Elle’s Studio products to one lucky winner!!

Sketch Thursday

Happy Thursday! Today’s sketch was inspired by Christa’s One & Only Boy from the Design Team gallery this month.

We Invited special guest, Ashley Horton to play along with the sketch this week and she created this amazing layout (lightning fast too!)

Ashley said: I love using a Grid Design, and I loved that the Sketch had uneven shapes, incorporating Squares and Rectangles.  I was able to use the Saltwater Frame at the bottom of the layout, and then created a banner piece beside it, using one of the Elle’s patterned papers.  For the top area of the Sketch, I used a Square Instagram photo and a Square piece of patterned paper, that I cut circles in, using my Cameo.

I hope the sketch inspires you to create this weekend. Post your project to our member’s gallery and link us here for a chance to win a $10 gift certificate to the Elle’s Studio Shop.

Last week’s randomly selected winner is Monique!

Congratulations!! Please email michelle@shopellesstudio.com the following info:

celebration cards

Hello and welcome back to fun with cards. This week’s cards are about celebrating… graduations, promotions and any other event that deserves three cheers!
I used our brand new Monthly Kit mixed in witha bit of Cameron and Saltwater.

fun: Start with a 4×6 journaling card as a base, curl paper into streams and attach them above the sentiment, then attach a star with foam dots above it. Add dimension to some of the dots in the card with candy buttons. Finally, stamp an extra sentiment right below the ‘fun’ block.

you are awesome!: I used 2 of the Cameron Tabs + different cameron papers to create the stars here. Cut apart, trace, cut and assemble. Embellish with buttons and a simple sentiment. Attach vellum to the card base, then attach the tab and it’s done 🙂

celebrate: I added some extra fun to this card by stitching along the ‘celebrate’ title. Layer banners and stars along the right side. Create a big banner and place it behind the tag, then attach to the card base.

Project Life

This week’s Project Life covers the week of May 13-19.

For this week’s spread I used the Elle’s Studio Limited Edition June Kit to complete my layout.  After being on vacation for a week and a half, this was the perfect kit to get back into the swing of things.  I finished this layout in record time– Elle’s kits are put together so well.  I was so happy with how it turned out.

I didn’t have an over abundance of photos for this week, so I used many of the kit’s journaling tags to write journaling and additional thoughts.  I especially love that Major/Minor goals journaling card.
I also included a note from my mom and one of her grocery lists since I was helping her this week after a minor surgery.

Good Luck!

Project Life was created by Becky Higgins as a way to simplify how you document life and preserve memories. Photo pockets used in my Project Life album are created by Becky and can be found here.  You can read of all the Elle’s Studio Project Life posts here.
