sketch thursday

Hello everyone! We’re back with another fun sketch. This one was inspired by Melissa Mann’s ‘deck the halls‘ layout for the CHA booth.

DT members Vee and Corrie played along and created these amazing layouts:

Vee: I was inspired by the straight lines of the sketch layout and I loved how the embellishments were inline with the design.

Corrie: I love a grid based layout and when I saw this sketch I was immediately inspired by the grid design.  To make it work for my page I made my grid a 3×3 and used a variety of Elle’s Studio tags for my journaling.

Create a project inspired by today’s sketch, post it to our Member Gallery and post a link here for a chance to win a $10 gift certificate. A random winner will be selected and announced with next week’s sketch.

Last week’s randomly selected winner is… KatieRose!

Project Life

This week’s Project Life covers the week of July 8-14th.
This week I had a blast using primarily items from the Cameron collection.   The paired wonderfully with pieces from Becky Higgins Seafoam Project Life Core Kit (which was designed by Elise Blaha Cripe).  The aqua and orange colors were perfect.

Even though Cameron is our “all boy” collection, you can see here that it worked very well with summer photos!

I also added pieces from the May and June 2013 kits.  These kits have become a staple while creating my Project Life spreads.  I store all of my Elle’s Studio kits together and use tags as they work with my design.

We want to feature your Project Life album!  During the last week of each month we will be featuring a couple Project Life spreads that caught our eye in the Member Gallery.  We will be posting Project Life spreads on our blog tomorrow!   If your spread is featured we will be sending you a $5 gift card to use in our store.   Good Luck!

Project Life was created by Becky Higgins as a way to simplify how you document life and preserve memories. Photo pockets used in my Project Life album are created by Becky and can be found here.  You can read of all the Elle’s Studio Project Life posts here.

First I want to share this great spread by photochic17.  I love how she used so many different Elle’s Studio tags and the “Love” print is awesome!

I love this baby spread by WaiSam.  The bright colors and details are incredible!

MissKimm made this spread- so much fun stuff going on here!  I love all the kit tags she included here and that arrow card really caught my eye!

CHA wrap up and thank yous!

We had so much fun at the summer 2013 CHA show and we can’t thank you guys enough for stopping by, saying hello, and for all of your support – we feel so blessed! It was so fun to see old friends and make new ones, too! It was a busy show for us so our photos are limited, but I did manage to snap some shots of our booth on day two before the show opened! Here’s a peek at it:

We were also blessed with an amazing group of women that created layouts/projects for the booth and they knocked it out of the park! We posted close ups of each one earlier last week, but if you haven’t checked them out, please do now! You don’t want to miss these amazing and inspiring projects: Cameron, Penelope, Noel, and 2014.

Before we knew it, the booth was back in the crate and on it’s way home. It’s amazing how fast time goes at these events, but time always does when you’re having fun! Our new collections start shipping to online and brick and mortar stores on September 9th, so be on the look out! Also, you still have a chance to win the collections before you can buy them! Just check out the following blog posts for details: Penelope, Noel, and 2014.

I can’t thank you enough for your emails, comments, and excitement, at the show and on the blog, as we launched all our new collections – words can’t even begin to express how much it means to me! Love you all! xo

Why did you start scrapbooking and how did you get started?

I have always loved to take pictures and I especially love taking pictures of my daughter.  I thought she might like to see this when she grew up.  And I thought it would be an excellent idea if I could create a cute album with her pictures.  So I took a look at the Web, and found scrapbooking.

What are three products you can’t live without?
Washi tape, twine, sewing maching, black and white pen, and copic spray.   I can’t decide on only three because all of these are important to me!
What is your favorite color combination
I love yellow and white/ pink and grey

What/who inspires you?

I am inspired by Pinterest.  I check it several times in a day.  And I am inspired by my daughters pictures because it is color gun, and design is unique.  I’m always amazed by her.

What is your favorite thing about scrapbooking?

I like to sew with the sewing mating on my layout.  This is an easy way to add accent to the layout.   Current favorite technique is to write dot-line and polka dot with black or white pen.

We are giving away Michiko’s favorite Elle’s Studio products!   Leave a comment on this post for your chance to win:

sketch thursday

Happy Thursday! Today’s sketch was inspired by JenChesnick’s Just like that layout from the DT gallery.

The very talented Stephanie and Laurel created these projects based on the sketch. Amazing!!

Stephanie: “I love using large photos on layouts.  Jen’s layout is fabulous and I loved how her photo covered the entire length of her page and I loved all of the little bits and pieces above her photo.  Unfortunately, I can only print to 8.5×11, so I opted to leave a little white space surrounding my photo. I layered my photo onto a piece of the fabulous star paper from the Cameron collection and then added a few of the tags, tabbed cards and tidbits to finish my layout.”

Laurel: “I loved the large photo at the bottom as it was perfect for the photo I got of my daughter and her friend.  I then layered some smaller photos on top.”

Project Life: Vacation

Today I am sharing how I am using Project Life to document our family vacation.
We took a vacation to Disney World in late May.  During that trip, I took over 1000 photos, collected endless amounts of memorabilia, and experienced countless wonderful memories with my family.  What better way to document a family vacation than with Project Life?  I can document all the memories and photos as well as organize the memorabilia we collected.

For the cover page of my album, I simply trimmed a photo of Cinderella’s Castle.   One of my favorite places to print 12×12 photos is Mpix.com.  They have wonderful quality photos.   For each park we visited I have a single photo such as this that I will enlarge to highlight that specific day.

The first day of our vacation was the drive from Indiana to Florida.  One may think that is not an exciting thing to document… but the excitement level was HIGH in our car that day.   We allowed our kids to watch endless movies to help pass the time (which was a rare treat and kept everyone sane:).   I listed the movies they watched, the route we took, and the miles we drove.

Saltwater was perfect for documenting this first page!  I even used a pattern paper from Penelope— and it matched wonderfully!   I recently picked up the Project Life Midnight Core kit.  I love the neutral colors and knew it would go well with my Elle’s Studio journaling cards.

Good Luck!
